Eliminate Ladder Noise

- Hello! Welcome to Schoen Roofing.
Ladder noise is one of the most annoying sounds a contractor has to deal with.
At Highway speeds it can become almost unbearable!
I have had many calls end because the caller could not hear me over the noise.
I run a 4 ladder setup on my ladder rack and there was a time when only one had acoustic treatment. It was awful.
I hope you enjoy the video and encourage you to treat your ladders to save your sanity.

Don't watch the 8 minute video
Pool noodle or pipe insulation foam. Just a little bit stuffed in each rung on each side
You can use spray foam, but it'll be tough get out, ie of you want the rung hole clear to hold the brush handle

Do not use spray foam as it can trap water in the rung.
Another video showed using spray foam to fill the holes. I drove across the country with a Little Giant ladder on my Rav4 roof. The noise was horrendous! And the Little Giant doesn't have all those side holes. I thought it was the metal vibrating, which also seemed to make the roof itself vibrate. I'm looking at getting a rooftop carrier bag so I have room inside my vehicle to put the ladder. Gas mileage will still take a hit but I can't imagine the noise will be as bad.

I guess you can cut the rubber tube down the center and still accomplish a roll.

Oh it works. It’s crazy how many people think it’s normal to have that ladder hum.
It doesn’t help that I have adhd so any rattles and squeaks drives me bat @@@@ crazy. Been telling work in this day and age we should be on a mewp anyway
Just install a good sound system and turn it up..!
Lol! Tried that. Some songs the hum actually enhanced the music
