Every Roof Rack Needs This! | Front Runner Wind Fairing Install

- Installing the Front Runner Wind Fairing on my LR3 Offroad project. This fairing mounts directly to your Front Runner Slimline II roof rack and helps deflect wind away from the void between roof and rack. As well as helping airflow over the rack and hopefully bringing back some mpg. Enjoy!

Also...I pulled off the rubber strip, flipped the wind fairing over and reattached it so the huge logo is underneath now. Just an option if you don't want to advertise for FrontRunner. :D
Hey man keep grinding and growing the network. You’ll get the audience you deserve
Added one to my Jeep. I ordered a wider size for complete coverage of the rack (end to end) and substantially reduced wind noise, and I got 2-3 mpg back on mine. In the city, with the lower speeds it doesn't really matter as there's not a ton of wind issues anyway. On the highway, its significant and absolutely worth the money.
Really wanna see the pics haha =) have the rack for my JK, also considering buy one for the JL, just have little bit concern about the noise
They now have 2 different wind fairing normal version is 6.8" high, low profile version is 5" high, which one should I buy? and what is the width you purchased? thanks a ton
@@andcircleone5034 I just have the 5" one, the 6.8" one would be too much (even with an angle) on mine. Just have to measure and decided which is best I suppose.
that rubber lip is what i need for my Thule fairing. whack that LR didn't throw in a proper fairing.
These definitely should come with the rack! I get a super loud vibration on mine when I get to 45-55 mph.
Agreed! I feel like nobody mentions how loud these roof racks can get. I'm experimenting with placement of the cross rungs as well to see if it reduces noise.
Does anyone know or have reduce the amount of crossbars so you are not blocking the sunroof? It seems to defeat the purpose of sunroof. Unlike the Prospeed or TeraFirma, you don't have to populate all the roof with cross bars
Do you think I could use this on a oem rack?
Will the roof rack/deflector mount into a leer topper rails that came with the thule crossbars? (Removing the crossbars of course).
I'd email frontrunner. Their customer service is usually on top of things and will be able to answer any questions you have
So can you update us on what the difference is with the detector on please?
I'm going to need one as the wind noise isn't the best.
Thanks
Mick
Deflector will help with mpg a little bit and noise will be reduced by say 30ish%. These roof racks are obviously tall and lots of rungs for wind to catch on. The deflectors are definitely nice bit you'll still have some noise.
@@ty_zib thanks for the info mate
Keep it cool..where is the link for this fairing?

Great video but can you put it one slat back so I can mount a light bar under the front one ps I don’t have a sunroof
The mounts are pretty adjustable so I'm sure that would work. I put mine up front so I can still use my sunroof.
@@ty_zib thank you for this review! Has the new deflector helped with noise?
I’m considering frontrunner vs rhinorack for my discovery and noise is a factor.
Its helped somewhat with noise but I noticed less drag on the rack more. I'd say its worth it. Rack will make noise no matter what
How adjustable is this? On my VW T6 with EOM tracks (FASS017) I have very low space (~1cm) between the original (the one you removed) wind fairing and the actual roof.
They have different sizes available on their site. The mounts themselves allow the whole fairing to pivot up or down so you could have it angled pretty far out
Most of the noise comes from the fact that the rails are perpendicular to the direction of the wind on the roof rack.
Hi. I am installing my faring now. The bolts with the thumb tighten are not getting tight at all. (The ones that attach to the rack)I notice yours doesn’t have them. Did you take yours off?
Mine never had any thumb tighten bolts
Sooooo how much quieter is it with the deflector?

*would like to know if it worked*
It helps a lot with wind drag on the rack. Noise is reduced a decent amount at lower speeds (below 50mph) but at higher speeds the rack will always have some sort of noise. You could make your own for pretty cheap if you are good at diy. Very simple.
You didn't discuss if it reduced noise or not
I typically wait to test products for a longer period of time before a full analysis. I think it helps with fore and aft wind noise but you're always gonna have noise from cross wind. If anything it should be helping fuel efficiency.
It used to be when something came with a logo or advertising it was free or you actually got paid for their sponsorship :(
Did this make any difference?

Dang was wondering what sounded like for reals with a clip yo
Do you think it gave you back some mpg with having less drag?
Most likely yes but nothing super crazy. Maybe like .2 mpg lol
You forgot 3m clear tape below fairing
I knew I'd be taking the rack on and off so I figured I wouldn't use it. Plus the fairing rubber trim sits super tight to the roof as is.
