You are welcome. Yeah, it's hard to find the exact model you need at local stores. I had the same issue. There are a variety of good options online, though. Glad the link helped you out. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Not sure why they break down over time. This one has lasted almost 17 years so that’s a pretty good lifespan. We use that door and lock multiple times a day and the sun hits it for most of the day to sunset since it’s directly west. But yeah, I wish things lasted longer!
The cylinder is usually very easy to replace. If your current handle is in good shape, there's no reason to replace more than the cylinder. If you need it matched to other locks, you'd need a locksmith, but it can be done.
The white buttons you're pushing with your finger spin no matter how hard I push with even pliers. It's to the point the screws are just about stripped out and I'm thinking about using a drill bit through the screw. Any ideas on how to get the screw handles out when they're so stuck like that?
Yeah, it sounds like you might need to drill through the screw to get it off. Be careful and choose the right sized bit so you don't do any unnecessary damage!
Great question! I have never seen one with a key for a sliding screen door. But I know my front door has one for the swinging screen door. Can anyone else help answer this question?

You might be able to use a pick to get in there and turn it. Also a small flathead might do the same thing. You should be able to move it where the lock is, but you've got to get the right angle and tool to fit in there. Good luck on your project!
I subbed, but I'm curious, how do you have ads on your videos when your subs are just over 400 with only 150+ views on this video? The prerequisite is 1000 subs and 4000 hours watch time.
@@MCFIXIT yeah so it was the piece that you use to screw the lock into the door, which is the long flat piece. I ended up being able to push the lock down into the door, then angling it to pull the whole thing out. Very strange!
I think you bought the wrong lock. There are two styles, 45 degrees and vertical. Look at 2:55 , they don't match. Now with the new lock, your lever is in a different position.
On this type of handle it doesn't make much difference. 99% of the time the 45° is the right one. Personally, I would have flipped the mortise lock to lock up. If the door has room to be lifted, pointing down is not as secure. I would have also kept the old keeper because there wasn't any wiggle room. The lock does have adjustment, but they usually come already maxed out. You need a little wiggle room or it's likely to have problems in the future.
The link for the mortise was a life saver. None of my local places had the type with the face plate on it, which is the one I need. Thank you

Great video. I know my back door needs regliment because let's in a draft any tips
Yes, that can easily happen over time! Good luck on your project
They are those made so cheap and break? My lock is not working as well. Thanks for the step by step instructions on how to fix this!

My doorwall has an exterior keyhole that I don't have the key for. Can this be changed?
Yes. But you would need to find one with a key lock. This is only an interior lock
The cylinder is usually very easy to replace. If your current handle is in good shape, there's no reason to replace more than the cylinder.

Thanks for adding this info!
I tried to put a bigger latch on the sliding glass door. Messed up the panel is there any fix?
What kind of bigger latch? Can you provide more details? Like is it stuck? Did you break it off inside? Etc

Nice video bro keep up the hard work and congrats on 395 subs
Thanks! I really enjoy your channel too. Keep it up!
Are those mortice locks able to install a key??
Great question! I have never seen one with a key for a sliding screen door. But I know my front door has one for the swinging screen door. Can anyone else help answer this question?
is there a way to make this type of lock for a glass sliding door smart?
I don’t think so but if you find a way, let me know!
Can I get a link to where you bought your at?
5-3/8" Mortise Lock for Glass Door - amzn.to/3s7lP1Q
Great video on replacing the lock on a screen door! Do you know why your old lock failed?
Good question! My guess is the age of it. It's about 20 years old and can fail over time.
Got a door just like this but the door is shut and the lock is jammed can’t get the door to open any advice
Can you unscrew it? That might give you access to the inside lock.
This is the video I needed. Thank you for making it and posting!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very handy tutorial! Clear and detailed! Great video!

My mortise lock is a bit smaller than yours. It looks to be about 4-5/8 inch. Do you have a link to this size?
@@tomscomicrelief9178 Yes, here's the link: amzn.to/3xaNsKT
I'm unable to get the old lock out. It's has very little play up and down to get it out
Have you tried a pair of needle nose pliers to help get it out?
@@MCFIXIT i figured it out. I had to push it up into the space above and when i can see the bottom ofnthe lock assembly, I pulled it out.

Please and thank you 😢
My sliding door lock is broken but I can't get the door to unlock. Tried using a flathead screwdriver to turn the lock but it still won't open

It’s just a different position. It works great. I just let the dog out and locked it afterwards.
When he flipped the lock I was thinking the latch looked upside down. And if you look at product pics on amazon it is.
On this type of handle it doesn't make much difference.

Use the drill man I'm going to fall asleep 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry to hear that. I try to use tools that everyone has. I have plenty of drills and power tools. I’ll try to speed up this part in future videos
