Had to laugh at 11:18 when you explained how people didn’t always understand your pronunciation. I’m going to be learning Mandarin next year, and apparently the ‘tone’ you use to pronounce words is *really* important, as just very slight nuances in your pronunciation of a single word can give it a variety of different meanings. If I remember correctly, I think there are 4 types of ‘tones’ and then as many ‘sub-tones’. And to top it all, in the different regions and cities of China, the locals will pronounce the same word somewhat differently due to the difference of their local dialects from one city to the next !😅😢
Having different temperatures in different sections of the train is so innovative and environmentally conscious. Haven’t seen this anywhere in the world.

The monk trick is an old trick here. Monks are highly respected here in China and people often go to temple to pray for their well-beings. When you see a monk you automatically think he's a good guy. So when these fake monks ask you for help, the mindset you have is always like "What if he's a real one? It's only 20 yuan. I don't wanna leave a nice person hopeless." Your mind changed after you saw this happened 2 or three times. But they can always find a new victim with a good heart.
In China, you don't say 'Hao Chi' before you eat the food from a shop or restaurant generally. That could be the reason sometimes you got those unusal/funny looks from people if you just passed by their shops, did not eat anything there but said 'Hao Chi'. Not because of the way you pronunced the words. The business owners might think how you knew the food here delicious if you had not eaten yet.
Yup. If it smells great, should say something like "hen xiang" or very fragrant. Saying "hao chi" all the time is like saying "delicious" all the time when one has never even tried the food before and it can be a bit annoying at times
Hao Chi meaning it’s delicious (use after you ate the food) Hao Chi Ma ? meaning is it delicious? ( before ordering/placing your order or someone offering you to try the food.
