As You are aware I'm back in the process of looking for a backup generator. The first thing that I do is call the customer service of the generator that I'm considering buying. I want to see for myself just how responsive their technical support is. The second thing that I do is ask their customer service where is their nearest service repair center closest to my zip code. I want to know how close it is should it require a repair under the warranty. The big problem with Maxpeedingrods is that there nearest service center or repair shop is in Florida. I live in New York. I think that that's ridiculous! This is something everyone should consider about the company of the generator that they are buying from.

@@back2backjack1 Westinghouse, Champion and Power Smart have service repair centers in most states. I don't mind traveling 30 miles to one but not over one thousand. We all purchase items with the hope of it never requiring servicing. The probability does exist that a defect might develop just beyond the return date. There is absolutely no reason why those 3 companies mentioned are able to establish contracts with outsie vendors to repair a generator while Maxpeedingrods can't. That's what's called great customer service. Toyota vehicles for example are extremely reliable where you can purchase one in every state like the Maxpeedingrods generator. Would you still buy one if you had to ship the car back to Georgetown Kentucky where it's manufactured here if something goes wrong during its warranty period? I don't think so and neither do you! Lol

@@back2backjack1 Explain then why Champion, Westinghouse and Powersmart, who manufacture generators, can contract with service shops throughout the country while Maxpeedingrods can not? That's called excellent customer care and service. I don't mind traveling 30 miles to drop off a generator that may develop a problem under its warranty period. The Maxpeedingrods would have to be packaged and shipped to Florida for the repair at the customer's expense. While you may have no problem taking a loss of 500 dollars for a generator that needs repairs under the warranty to avoid shipping it back to Florida . That's might not be the case for everyone who isn't as well off financially as you. Like Maxpeedingrods, you can purchase an extremely reliable Toyota vehicle in just about every state in America. You can also have it repaired in every state at a dealership that sells them. Can you imagine having to ship that vehicle back to Georgetown Kentucky, where it's manufactured here in America, should the vehicle develop a defect within its warranty period? I don't think so. When I contacted Maxpeedingrods customer service. I was informed that was a big problem with consumers who wanted their generator serviced under the warranty. The ones who were reluctant to easily throw away several hundred dollars. Gee, I wonder why? Lol

I wonder if you can do a scheduled auto start/off? The biggest reason I'd want a "Smart Generator" is to charge up a off grid battery backup system. The schedule could replace "sunlight" hours to charge up the system to match your usage. So...run for 3 hours to top off the batteries 1-2 times a day in the winter, and maybe 1x at night in the summer when you have more solar.

Looking forward to your GT video. Wonder if the external fuel pump can easily connect to the GTs internal starting battery. Should have enough power for both jobs. Run a splitter off the SAE connectors or they could add a dedicated connector at the factory.

Great review and neat units, especially the dual fuel unit. Funny that it's using the same DK/Genmax/Pulsar engine but under a slightly different manufacturer, just like the MXR3500 has the identical engine and even the case as the DK units, but is made by Guoyu... Weird. The muffler on this unit looks slightly different than the DK products too, which is maybe why it's 1db lower on the sound. Also, the case looks a little bigger so maybe a more sound insulation?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  11 місяців тому +2

It not uncommon for manufacturers to sell there engines. Yamaha Has done this for decades. So maybe genmax/DK is selling the 164F..?
And yes the muffler is slightly different which these do sound different and quieter then the genmax which im going to take both of those apart and check the mufflers. These for some reason just look a little better built but ya know it’s so minor. I do like the intake for the DF. It’s not an inlet on the carb but an intake plate right at the intake manifold so its closer to the engine verses being injected or flowing throw the carb Venturi body.
I need to dig into these more.

I realize the selling points on all generators are size, max power, if its loud. I appreciate those points and your time and videos but I would like to know more about the electronics on generators. Who is making them? Where are they being made? How do they differ from brand to brand. Does Honda, Yamaha, genmax have a secret sauce for electronics and how do the lower prices gens get priced lower if many have the "same" motors etc on them. I'm not trying to be challenging over this issue its just not talked about or I'm simply missing it somehow. Thanks for your time and energy for what you do for us.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  11 місяців тому +2

Honda is really the only one that had not moved to Chinese manufacturing. But they are starting. Yamaha already is and every other brand that is a compact or medium size generator especially inverter is Chinese made. I have not been able to source where all the electronics come from. Many are the same and can be had if people look. eBay, alibaba or aliexpress or calling the manufacturer and more.
I should start a list of where these inverters are coming from and maybe find the main source. which can take some digging.
People complain all the time im selling Chinese junk at $500….but im just showing products I believe will work for the intended purpose and price. I cant make anyone buy anything.
The same people that complain about the Chinese junk , well most of there house has Chinese products in it. They have no problem spending $1500 on a TV made in china…🤷🏼‍♂️
Now sure some of these brands do come from a cheaper manufacturer and it’s hard to weed those out. But some lines are good and have been around for years now and having good success.
And sometimes you dont know until you own it for months or get feedback back from thousands of people.
I mean again most this stuff is dont force anyone to buy, im just giving information I have found. And like anything there are budget lines and premium in everything. I try to steer people away from dodge trucks but people still buy them….🤷🏼‍♂️🤣…..j/k……😉👍🏼

Bought the generator after watching a lot of videos including yours. We ran it at home on propane with no issues. Both battery start and pull start. Now we’re camping to test it out and it won’t start. My fault I left the on/off switch on, so the battery is dead. But it won’t start with the pull start either. Disconnected everything several times. Made sure to open the tank very slowly. The weird thing is that if I disconnect the propane hose from the generator and use the pull start, it will run briefly. Any ideas. Checking other forums as well.

      Turn switch off…
      Pull cover off
Mainly move choke into closed position closest to the airbox
      Turn switch on
      Pull start it
      If no start try propane
      Turn switch off
      Move choke to “open” position
      Open propane tank
      Turn switch on
      Pull start
If no start let sit for about 10-15 mins as spark plug is probably fouled and wet.
If it’s hot where you are you may not need choke at all for gas.
You don’t need it for propane at all.

Blue tooth app, it’s no one’s business, I should not have to give my info to run a generator

Someone needs to come out with a similar sized gen that's fuel injected to compete with the Honda EU3200, or is there one and I haven't found it yet?

The genmax 4600 is a EFI unit that at the moment is now backordered till next shipment comes in. Nice unit with unique features but Im still on the fence on it. Not as quiet as I asked them to make it. Seems the same as the 3500 and I wanted it to start with out a battery. Which they said they are making another version or something, so I dont know.
Good unit but being new not a lot of feedback I can draw yet.

How did you get your hands on the GT model? I wanted that one but the MPR website still says coming soon. Instead I got the Pulsar 4000 dual fuel. It was on sale last week for $509. I couldn't pass that deal up. Glad I didn't because it's now back up to $599. I sold my year old MXR3300 to buy the Pulsar because I really wanted the dual fuel option for my RV. If and when I decide to get the MXR4000GT I know I can easily sell the sell Pulsar. The MXR3300 sold within a couple hours on facebook marketplace.

MXR Actually sent me the first one and litterly a week and a half later the other showed up. I know I posted a note that the pulsar was $509 …which lame….I just paid $599 a few weeks earlier 😂
I wanted a new gen for my RV as well if you didn’t watch the videos as I wanted something different then the smart generator and a unit that could easily run one 15k ac unit. Which the Honda doesn’t do propane and will over load eventually on the one AC unit. I love this size and weight as well so its perfect for many who dont want to get something bigger like a predator, wen, or champion which are good units.

@johnnysweekends yes I saw that video. I watch all your videos. They're very informative. What do you do with all these generators you test? Do you get to keep them or do you have to send them back?

“Rated ambient temp 25c” Thats a bit interesting and unusual compared to the normal 40c. Perhaps a questionable inverter module?😕

I don’t actually understand your comment at all. The pulsar I bought because it has a proven 164f engine copy of a Honda gx motor. If used appropriately it will perform well and last a long time. Many of the items on my channel I pay for. Some I don’t as I review and test them. If they do what they are supposed to, and have a good track record they will be on the channel.
Some items are budget items, some are premium items which then people complain it’s too much. That’s life, budget items and premium items.
I don’t know what you’re after but if you don’t like it, simply move on. I’m sure I could find plenty of junk at your home and question why you bought it.
I do a lot of reading and research and calling and questioning of mechanics and more which I used to be one and still wrench on stuff. So again….
If you have nothing to add as positive alternatives or actual factual data, then simply move on.

Most every unit even Honda I believe says 250hrs. The new Honda says 250 hrs for visual inspection of timing belt, which is not an easy quick to do. And if not done, warranty is void. Must be done before Honda dealer or approved Honda shop. Screw that!!
