So you look outside right, and the first thing you see through the window is that the running conditions are terrible, they’re far from ideal
Your first inclination is to go back to bed, wait until it warms up, maybe hang tight until the rain or snow stops, which the majority of us would find completely reasonable by the way
But let me explain this scenario from a different angle, because this is the exact situation when it’s most important to get out of bed, to put your running shoes on and to head out the front door
There is an undervalued benefit that comes from putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation
From forcing yourself to be just a little bit irrational
When you look at those who have been successful, what separates them is that they do things and they make sacrifices that others would not
They’re the people that study until 4am
Or wake up when it’s dark outside to practice free throws
Whatever the specific skillset may be, the pattern is always the same, they were willing to pay a price that most wouldn’t, they wanted it just a little bit more
So what could this possibly have to do with running in the rain?
It has everything to do with it
Why is it that when you run outside on a cold, rainy day, no one’s out there?
It’s not because you’re doing anything that in itself is great or heroic, you’re running alone because it sucks, it sucks to run in the rain right, to have cold wind blowing in your face, that’s not relaxing or enjoyable, it’s uncomfortable
But you’re out there when everyone else is warm inside and there is value to that
Training yourself to follow through with your ambitions regardless of hurdles, because life will not always be comfortable
What are going to do when things get bad? You lose a client at work, your girlfriend leaves you, you going to stay in bed?
Cause there will always be a reason to wait for later, to hope for smoother waters ahead, the best though, they achieve in spite of undesirable conditions
Then suddenly, meeting your goals has become a habit, not something left up for chance
You don’t even look at the weather right, the forecast becomes very little significance to you
So it’s cold, great, you’ll wear two sweatshirts, but you’ll figure out how to get it done
And I’ll tell you, when you take those shoes off and head to work, or practice or wherever your day takes you, that mentality does not leave
You look at things differently
You know, you’ll realize that 99% of the reasons we give for not doing things they’re excuses, they’re meaningless
If you want something, do it, and guys that’s not a cliché, that’s the key to success, find a way to get it done
And the best part, when it’s finally 72 and sunny, and the world is outside ready to run, you’ll have lapped that place so many times that you’re not even on the same level
You have been to hell and back and your performance will make that apparent
That’s how you become the best
So is it just a run in the rain?
You tell me
There's no greater feeling than working when most aren't. Running in the rain is an amazing example of this.
Especially when it’s cold outside as well. Nothing like it
Until you get sick. Then you’d look pretty silly. Because same
@@mrstifler8987 lol excuses unless you live in Minnesota or Alaska you'll be fine
@@andradeb2695 You don’t understand how you get sick and it shows. If it’s raining and windy, you’re more than likely getting sick.
I live in Texas so running in the rain is far better than most days running on the hot asphalt
Remember guys if it was easy everyone would do it
💪😎
thank u..that was motivating
Se fosse fácil todo mundo faria.
Thank you brother you made me get upp.❤️
Oh yes couldn’t have said it better myself

I recently started running and today was my first run in the rain and it felt absolutely amazing, the sound of rain drops falling, the sound of footsteps and the absolute calmness because nobody is out there. It was like meditating. I have never been so happy!
👍🙏
Are you still running? I hope you are
@@lukarucamiles3145 Yes, I am😀
I’ve just done the same thing my first ever night run in the Rain and the streets was empty soon as I got home said to my kids that was an amazing feeling 🤷♂️
I've always like running in different weather, it gets boring running in the same weather.
Just did my marathon training at 5 am in the pitch black 40 degrees and raining. Not one other person on the trail my whole time running. Felt good
Running in the rain makes me feel like a badass ngl
Facts
Me too
same here 🤣
2 years later. I am watching this video and reading your comment. I’m gearing up for a summer monsoon desert 🌵 rain run. Record setting rains started 1 day ago and hasn’t stopped.
Here in FL I’m looking forward to my rainy day runs! Just started running and I fell in love with it.
I go out whenever the least people are out, whether the weather is terrible or it's late at night. It's not because I'm motivated (though I am), it's because I'm antisocial. :)
you are what you are, I like peace and quiet so that's me :) I like to run when I don't see too many people and yeah most of the time it's when it's raining outside :(
randomuser1105 I thought i'm the only who doesnt like crowd but guess what this comment section made me wrong

I run in the rain because it makes me feel closer to nature, I know I'm one step closer to my goals while others are lying on their comfortable bed waiting for the sun. Running in the rain without shirt is the best thing a man can experience, during your run you have time to sort out your thoughts & reflect on life
Not a dude, but I agree, I LOVE running in the rain before everyone is awake, especially in the summer when it isn't freezing out. It makes me feel closer to nature, too.
Has anyone mentioned to you that your eyebrows looked amazing! We have similar eyebrows! :D
Thanks? You're a guy so I guess that means my eyebrows are thick
I run in the rain cause it let's my neighbors know that I'm a psychopath
I love running in the rain. Here in the Midwest though, I would like for it to be at least 50 degrees and warmer. But I have run several 1/2 marathons in pouring down rain, and when the shoes finally get water logged, I am in the groove knowing I am soaking, soaking wet and all is good.
I just want to say, I started running the same year that this video was posted. I went from overweight with 0 ambition, to incredibly involved in fitness. This video inspired me to get outside and run no matter what the weather, and that shaped my whole life so that I can get out there and do what needs to be done, regardless of the climate. It has also done a lot to strengthen my faith and walk with Christ.
This little video touched my life in an incredible way and had a crazy snowball effect
Thank you for encouragement
Wesley you are an inspiration. My life balance hangs on running . Surprising benefits of running it makes the entire life disciplined
Time to run in the burning summer heat.
I will never let circumstances dictate my behavior.
Rage against the dying light.
+Black Eye Lol. You literally made that up, training in the heat is amazing for your body.
+Promagin no it's not. your body dehydrates and loses important minerals too fast, so it's not healthy for your muscle (especially heart). also, your bp drops, so you even might faint. it's not funny. if you really really wanna run today, run during the evening or morning, but not afternoon
Ruta J There are benefits to training in the heat, but there are also risks. You are far more likely to overheat / heat stroke / dehydrate when exercising in hot weather. However, if you take the proper precautions, there are benefits to be gained from training in the heat. What's more, these benefits will directly impact your success.
A study was recently published by the University of Oregon into the athletic benefits of training in hot weather conditions. Specifically, they found that:
Heat acclimation improves the body’s ability to control body temperature, improves sweating and increases blood flow through the skin, and expands blood volume allowing the heart to pump more blood to muscles, organs and the skin as needed.
Interestingly, they found that this hot-weather training had improved the performance of the test group in cold weather conditions by as much as 7% for both the cyclists and runners. I would say training in the heat is perhaps the best thing you can do to improve your performance. Once again, I cannot stress enough how important it will be to maintain proper hydration and not overexert yourself in the heat.
I agree the hydration is such an important part of running in the heat

not gonna lie, I didn't think motivational video really motivated people until this one motivated me
Makes me think of something my football coach used to tell us. "Find a way, make a way". We didn't hold onto those words as we should have back then. These days, i truly understand and practice it as we do have to make it through adversity.
It's pouring here today... no matter what I'm running in the rain, thanks! "There's an under valued benefit that comes from putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation" I will force myself to be irrational!!!
feels good running in the rain.
I just woke up to go for a run and it's pouring outside. Time to go to work :)
Alright then , time to get up.
r u start before one year
Ha no
How’s it going now? Did you get up?
👏👏👏
@@darkpolo I did
This gets me out of bed every morning
I want to thank Eddie for the video, just finished 6 miles in the rain. About to start writing, then heading to Muay Thai this evening. Dig in and I hope this video gets you to work through the rain. Feels great.
today i ran in the rain and cold weather .. best experience in long time..
👏👏👏
This video has helped me for 5 years
I think that inner pain makes the run understandable
Vegeta didn't go super saiyan by sitting around lazily ;)
I’m the opposite, I’d much rather run in the rain with the wind blowing in my face than running in the height of summer sweating all uncomfortable and dehydrated.
Y'know, I didn't really need any motivaton today, my workout was already completed and I'm resting, but out of sheer curiosity I watched the video. I think that was the best video I ever saw. Thanks, :)
Thanks a ton, Nick!
I love running in lighting storms the most
😯😯😯
I remember when I was young, when I used to be trying hard at something and I reached my limit, I would say "This is where most people stop, if you you don't, then you're already ahead of a few thousand in this". with time however, i learned to do things just for feeling happy and feeling good, regardless of rank.
I cried then got ready for my run! 🏃🏽♀️
i have never ever in my life needed this more than now, thanks.
likewise
My favorite runs are in the rain. Today it was 35 degrees and raining. Had a running group of over 200 who came out to run between 4 and 9 miles. Some thought it sucked but most actually enjoyed it because they were dressed appropriately and with supportive fellow runners.
"but your out there when everone else is warm inside and theres value to that"
awesome, thanks i was starting to doubt
after watching this video I ran and trained myself through toughest weather conditions in my area and finally I passed all the physical tests of Army .thank you dude
+Noman Afzal Hell yeah...congrats!
I know it’s been 7 years already, but how you been brother?!? How’s things going for you now?
I Salute you 🫡
I’m gonna be going in the army as well, I told my recruiter that once I pass my test I’m gonna wait until I graduate high school which is in may or June then I’ll be shipped out.
I love running in the rain, against the Santa Ana Winds out here in Southern California or when it is 110 degrees out in the desert. Screw the weather, and all its attempts to slow me down.
this is one of best videos I have seen on UA-cam.I hear it every morning.
Thank you Eddie.
Today's rainstorm, and strapping on my shoes I was reminded of this video. I remember listening to this years ago, and finding the motivation to take another step. ❤ Thanks Eddie for all of the inspiration all of these years.
You helped create the warriors that we have today.
"Is it JUST a RUN IN THE RAIN?..you tell me"❤️👌🏾😊
I love running in the rain. It’s my favorite thing. I hate running in the sun
Wow. I'm a 13 year old girl and this gave me so much inspiration.

I'm watching this because it's pissing it down and I'm looking for motivation to run. Let's go. I won't loose weight on only sunny days
Love your videos!! Listen to them while running
I remember standing at the start line of a run and I switch on my playlist. We are moments away from the start and this comes on. It's playing and I am waiting to start running and just as it ends and he says "So, is it just a run in the rain? You tell me", I start running and it starts raining... Best Run Ever!

Running in the rain, cold or not, is easy and preferable for me. Running in hot weather on the other hand....
🏜😰
Best video on the Tube by far …..see u out there ladies and gents
I’ve started enjoying running as a passion at age 11 as a hobby & I was always competing and running has actually saved my life SO MANY TIMES & this video saves my life when I watch it.. this video to me means a whole lot more than just running.
Running in the rain is easier than a sunny day, motivation isn't required and endurance is increased due to lower temps.
Inspired me to do athletics, now I'm training every day
+Jzxd Boyz Good for you my friend. Bad ass
8 years and I still return still in need of the same message. Every time compounded every time fractionalised. never do I faulter always will I strive.
I raced my 3rd 1/2 Ironman of the summer yesterday in Maine. The weather forecast was for a chance of rain and it was drizzling all the way up there. I knew I was ready for this race and this video had verified that. I ended up earning a PR and my first ever sub-8 finish in a time of 7:58:58. Others were worried about the weather, but I knew I was ready because I love, "Running in the Rain". A great message Eddie!!!!
+John Young Congrats John! Doing big things as usual!
I've never ran more than 5 miles. The night of 12/18/16 I will be running 20. It will be cold. This vid is helping my outlook. Thanks.
Can't wait to hear about you crossing the finish line. ;)
Your World Within thank you. No finish line, I'm pacing an ultra runner for a 20 mi. leg. But yeah you'll hear about me our read about me in the obits lol
This is my new motivational video. I ran in the rain yesterday and today. I love running in the rain now.
I've practiced in the rain, I've practiced whole months in below zero weather. I just sayin I deserve this shit.
I love running in the rain
Every morning that I run this is exactly what I'm thinking. I have made decisions that others were unwilling to make. I find myself on the road when I see lights inside houses switching on, and I'm already 4 miles in... it's a stunning feeling. Move ever forward.
Right on. It's the best feeling to know you are doing good by getting into shape. I'll forever miss the days where I was climbing just to get back into shape and be a better fighter. I'm with you!!
My PT was the one who showed me this video. My gym is his clinic, so when someone starts complaining he goes “what do we say?” I go “figure out a way to get it done.” Coach Troy that makes all the cycling work out dvd’s always says “embrace the suck” so of course I had to get shirt that said “embrace the suck” thanks for making this video, it’s gotten me through a lot “uncomfortable situations.”🙂
Exceptional Eddie. Thank you.
To everyone out there I hope you have the most productive day today!
Watched this video throughout high-school for motivation and now every morning when I get up and go to work and college.
Even though my country is going through a horrible drought period right now, I've had days where I've had to run under the rain. One night the rain was so hard that it literally felt like needles were sticking to my face. Every time it starts to rain while running, just think, is life any different? When the shit hits the fan and more problems arise, am I gonna just stop living? When it rains, am I gonna just stop running?
so true! :-)
John 0794 well said, will remember that and you
Thank you 🙏
Time to run in the rain
this really motivated me to continue running even after I was thinking about quit running. thank you.
Awesome!! Congrats Stephanie :)
Today is one of those days where I was not in the mood to run outside because it was raining and after listing to this video ( I found a way to get it done ) I ran 8 miles in the rain!!
I disagree, I feel alive when running it the rain. It's a joy.
I'm wathing this video once a week and I have chills every time. This video is just perfect. Images, music, voice, words, rythm. I do long distance challenge and this video drives me.
I love running in the rain because I know I'm the only one who would do this.
THANK YOU... for reminding me why I train at 43yrs old still.
This video is something else ❤ respect
Ok got sober, hit the gym everyday and now about to do my first mini. Next a marathon then the knobstone trail in 24 hours. I'm living proof you can start over and better yourself
Motivational videos, encouraging people to take that all-nighter before the exam.
Conph Amen.
True story - in the midst of training for my 4th marathon. Getting down to grind time (4 weeks till race day). Yesterday went out for a 15 mile training run. Pouring rain. Did it anyway. Shoes got drenched, heavy, cramps set in .... Came up short and stopped at 13 miles. My neighbor (a fellow endurance athlete) drove by and saw me out. Texts me this. Man, talk about a boost. I went from feeling defeated to inspired again.
I have downloaded it whenever I need motivation I watches it.
Warm soothing rain is just as great as winter snawfall for running
I have a marathon in 24 days....I did run my last Marathon back in 2020. I will be running the distance again after almost 2.5 years.
👍
i cried when watching the movie , thanks so much for expressing the true mindset of runner
I wish people wouldn’t be put off by the conditions outside. The worse they are = the better you feel. It‘s a good thing when it’s tough.
Once it was raining, and I mean pouring, but and I knew I still had to run to get it done. I ran 8 miles on one of the busiest trails in my area and to my surprise, I did not see a single person until 5 miles into my run, and only 4 people on my whole run. That experience motivates me every time I see people running on a nice day, because it reminds me how far only I was willing to go for my dreams. I love running, and nothing in this whole world can stop me from it.
That sounds like a memory that will stick with you forever, sounds like an amazing experience
Haha heading to the park to run I the rain right NOW!! Comfort kills, remember that little dudes.
It's so easy to stay in bed or skip a training session. Do what's difficult and most the time for me it's my brain trying to wire me for comfort, I always challenge my brain and most of the time I win and brains like: "oh this isn't so bad!" Get up and get after it. If you happen to see goggins out there and you ask him why he's doing this? He'll say: "because you aren't!"
This is so brilliant! Thank you!
awesomeness in every big way... I have ran in the rain, I have ran in the ice cold rain, not because I wonder what people think of me.. no, because, Its only an excuse why not to run and fall back on training... Its painful but, it was all worth it.. great analogy on running and how we look at life... Thanks for the video, this struck a chord in my running and life in general..
the only people who disliked this video are the lazy people .
True
+Hetal Patel Cyclists.
+Hetal Patel or maybe very active people that don't want others to know their secret
yes 41 dislikes they are eating bon bons now and don't workout.
Yeah!
Running in the rain is my fav .. alway get runners high after
They played this video when I was in basic training, and man, shit hit different.
For me there is one big reason why I always run when it is starting to rain. I am the only one in the city who is running now, or with other words I am the only one which is making progess right in this moment. So it is the most effective way to come to the first place because everybody else stops to run when it's raining...
Some run in the rain, few run during a storm ;-)
What separates them is that they enjoy whatever they’re doing regardless of the circumstances
Running in the rain is not as hard…running in the humidity is what takes toughness!
the instrumental behind this speech makes it beautiful... because of this song, i feel inspired.
Thanks so much for creating and sharing this video. It is so deep, it is an example for the whole life. When you are down, force yourself to get up, keep going, keep doing good. Just a little bit more, day by day. It's not easy. But we have to keep going.
+Michael S You're absolutely welcome. Well put!
When you want to run. When you want to succeed. When you want to aspire. But then physical limitations, setbacks, hit you in the face sending you back to where you virtually started.
You know that old saying about Rome my friend....
Your World Within I apologize i dont
I love how you view the world Eddie, your words are so inspiring, and they make sense. Please keep it up, and thank you for all your work thus far.

Just got me out running around London, marathon in less then 6 months
I live in Alaska so it rains all the time here so I'm kinda use to it and I like this video it has help me through a lot :)
Reminds me of Bill Murray's motivational speech to his fellow troops in Stripes.
Personally I love running in the rain
I feel comfortable training in rain
Eddie this video is everything I am and is exactly how I think... and it brings me to tears every time that I listen to it. I recently completed my first half marathon the day before I turned 30 after recovering from breaking my back in 3 places and multiple surgeries (and birthing two children), the success felt incredible and was a direct result of choosing to run in the rain (literally and figuratively- in lots of different ways) on many, many occasions. This video makes me feel all the feels. I so appreciate your videos. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's *way* more than just a run in the rain. 😊
