- 2010 Mercedes GLK350 - battery change process. This is a pretty easy DIY and it did not reset my radio! Hopefully, it works for you too. If it doesn't, all you have to do is call your dealer and provide VIN# for the code. You obviously have to own the vehicle for the dealer to share the code.
Duration: 30 minutes or so
Tools:
3/8 ratchet
Extension
10 mm bit
13 mm bit
Flashlight
Gloves
Battery AGM H7

Good info thanks. I just completed the job using your vid. For us cheap folks that don’t own a battery pack you can simply use jumper cables to another car. Same science. Thanks again!!!
Love it!
Thank you for this!! We did what you said and kept low power running thru the truck while switching the battery! 😅 it WORKED ❤
Great! Happy it worked for you too. Please like the video and subscribe.
FYI for all the nerds out there, the GLK has an auxiliary battery to actually keep your settings saved so you don’t really need the power bank. NOW, if that auxiliary battery is dead then do this
That is great feedback, thank you for sharing.
@@512TXSDIY this video is so awesome!! I used it to figure out how to remove my battery. Taking care of your own stuff is such a satisfying feeling! The dealer tried to charge me $550 for a new battery and install 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bro I crossthreaded the bolt and nut on the positive side
Back to the dealer I go for an overpriced battery nut and bolt
*EDIT* I ended up going to the nut and bolt warehouse in my city and dude charged me a $1 for the proper nut 😂
Yes it can be, I agree!

Neat little trick. I knew that ground wire was going to escape!
Haha. Yeah. Happy I didn’t have to go to dealer for the radio code.
Thank you for taking the time and recording this for others :) Cheers
Thank you for watching! Please thumbs up the video.
@@512TXSDIY Can I use the battery tender trickle charger or is that not enough power?
I learned something useful today ... Thanks.

Awesome!!! Can you thumbs up the video?
Thanks a lot! I got the same model and should save a lot of money!

@@512TXSDIY One question - since GLK 350 have an Auxiliary Battery located by the rear passenger side. Why need to connect to another battery? I tried to disconnect the battery the radio still on.
The aux battery helps with certain onboard accessories but the main battery is what drives the car. I was just trying to not risk having to make a trip to the dealer for potential radio reset. Happy everything worked out for you.
Thanks 🙏
Thumbs up the video? :-)
I love the Hulk Sub!!
Haha. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video! You made it so easy to follow and I don’t need to bother find a mechanic to install for me.
I have one question, if a battery maintainer can be a substitute for the power bank you use in the video? I am not sure it counts as a low power supply.
Thank you!
I’m sure that will be plenty of power! Please like the video and subscribe. I have lots of GLK content.
@@512TXSDIY thanks for your reply, it didn’t work for probably because of I when connect the new battery, I got it wrong connecting the negative first and see a little spark on the positive then I realized that. And connect the positive first instead. I guess it would work if I did the right sequence.
I subscribed immediately after this video. And for sure your GLK is really good, I am going to do more follow your vide on that!
@@512TXSDIY btw, I rarely use the radio, it is not a problem for me at all. I will also go to the dealership for a airbag recall and they should help me fix that.
Hi, can you pls share the details on the battery and the size tool you used to unscrew the bolts?
Check the description friend. I have everything listed.
You can just do it with the car running although if it dies it’s most likely do to a poor alternator
Thank you for watching
Danke

Could you post a link on what the battery pack that you used/attached to the power source before removing the old battery? If you could post the name/brand or a link on where to buy one of those, that would be most appreciated.
Thank you for the comment. I got mine on Amazon: MEGAWISE 1500A Peak 16800mAh Car Battery Jump Sta... www.amazon.com/dp/B08FD6Y933/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_fabc_AD89RNMSJYZ0C238B3FE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I think I am going to have to do this on my 2012 GLK 350. Past week I have had to have it jumped twice. Checking it after letting it sit over night its only got about 12.1 volts. Is that too low you think?
A new battery does wonders for your car. It’s like your iPhone battery running on a degraded battery. It runs, but not at its optimal self.
Hey I just found your channel and own a GLK350 myself. After watching a few of your videos, I decided to pop open the hood of my car and see what’s what. My car’s got a few issues im looking to fix over time (and most of your videos cover my issues, lol) but there’s one here that I’d like to ask you. You see the battery cover you removed? Behind that there’s a white cylindrical chamber there. Is it spinning in your video? For me, I noticed mine is spinning even though my car is completely off, with the key out of the ignition. Is that normal? What is that component?
Thanks for checking it out. Please like the video and consider subscribing to the channel. What part in the video are you referring to? Let me know the minutes
@@512TXSDIY right at 1:42, when you take out the cover on the top left there’s a little chamber that’s exposed with a checkered white cylindrical housing
@@PJXD50 That is your HVAC blower motor. It pushes the cold or warm air in the cabin when you turn on AC/Heat. It’s normal to spin when car is off. Likely just slowing down from when car was on.
@@512TXSDIY oh awesome! Thanks man
Hi,
Hope you check the new comments. I followed your inst. used a power pack and swapped in a new Costco recommended battery. It worked & radio is fine, however. Am getting an "auxiliary battery malfunction" now. IMPORTANT. I replaced the aux battery in 2021 (in the trunk of glk350) so I think it should be still good. Is there a "reset" that needs to happen to clear that code? I do not have a fancy code reader/reset. I do have obd2 code READER but no reset. The stop/start (at red lights) is FINE. Every function works in the car but the error message. Any help to clear that message or do I need to stick in another aux battery? I don't think it's a coincidence that replacing the engine battery kills the aux battery. Do I buy a tool that resets the code? Thanks. Subbed.
I haven’t had that issue yet so hard to diag for you. Are you able to clear the notification on the instrument cluster? What about resetting a “service work” notification with the scanner?
@@512TXSDIY No reset for it on dash, I may buy a scanner, researching autel to get one that works for my car @ $80 or so. THX!
Nicely done!
I’m sure you misspoke that that was a ground wire. It’s attached to the positive terminal.
Possibly. I’ll have to rewatch this video. Do you know where in the video?
@@512TXSDIY 5:40 at first then again later. I’d also recommend removing the terminal clamps first before the mounting bolts to not come in contact between the positive and bolts. Replaced mine today. Thanks for the video. A couple things different on my 2014, but much the same.
Can I use the battery tender trickle charger or is that not enough power?
Yes, I think that should be enough power. It is mainly so your settings aren' reset. Are you going to attempt it?
@@512TXSDIY I was just wondering. I also have a battery pack
I bet it would...try it?
Does the battery change also affect satellite radio?
I don’t know the answer to your question. Can someone help?
@@512TXSDIY asking because I took my 2010 GLK 350 to Mercedes dealership to have the battery replaced. Radio worked fine but Satellite radio went out and I was told by dealership that I would have to pay 1,400 for a new module.
Sorry to hear that but I don’t have your answer. Does someone on this thread know?
Question from a guy who is car stupid… if you don’t have the reset code handy will the glk still run at least? Im having starter issues and need to occasionally jump to get going, but before I buy a new battery my local parts store is happy to test my current one for free but I need to remove it and bring it in. If so, I can go a day without the radio. Just trying to see what my situation is.
Thanks in advance to any response.
Hey M Anderson! The car should start just fine. Depending on what model you have, your car may have a back up auxiliary battery as well. I am sure some people will disagree with me, but you can get the battery at Walmart for about $150 with a 4 year warranty so that is what I would do. No need to get a $500 service from your mechanic but that is 100% your call. I am a "car guy" and all my batteries are from Walmart when it is time. Don't forget to like and consider subscribing to the channel if you haven't already. I have lots of GLK content.
@@512TXSDIY Yeah, mine has the auxiliary battery as well, so I'm really glad to hear that I won't be having much issues changing out the battery. Luckily, I already have the power bank too, and with how clear you made everything in the video I shouldn't have a problem swapping the battery myself. I'm also definitely gunna check out those walmart batteries because they seem like a pretty good deal especially with that 4 year warranty, and saving $350 is a really nice bonus too.
Thanks for the fast reply btw, I really appreciate it.
Liked and Subbed!
@@MrShitthead Nice! The power bank is so helpful!
Just keep the car running,
I’ve never done that before. Have you?
