Alec Steele Blacksmith 2020 - Розваги
I swear that this whole channel is a saga of Alec building new shops in different parts of the world lol
Hopefully we get a series on building wills workshop
Next up: Down Under 🦘?
@@sonyvegasfxvideos was thinking Japan would be cool
"I'm not actually a blacksmith, I just build workshops in various parts of the world using the skills of a blacksmith."
@@southyjd I LEARN KATANA MAKING FROM A REAL ANCIENT JAPANESE SWORDSMITH!! Part 376
At this point Alec could be a workshop design consultant.
I was just thinking a tools list of what he is getting would be pretty nice too. The 3 in 1 welder and plasma cutter on a cart is awesome.
This is the Alec Steele Content I really missed!!!
Yes truly
Absolutely. Alec's shooting style is much more live and engaging. This channel used to be fun, and fresh UK series is a flash back.
Sameee
And forge doors in less than 30 episodes
@@alexanderwilkins222 ha ha ha - so true.
I was just lamenting about the lack of interesting content on my home page and this showed up. It is a good day.
Haha! As was I. Alec Steele to the rescue!
I never clicked so fast 😅he’s the first person I’ve seen forge anything
home grown opals worth a look
Ok dumb question. I probably missed it on an earlier video. Is your wife from your home town? Or is she from the US. I know you like to keep your wife separate from your UA-cam world for obvious reasons. But i was being nosey. So if you choose not to answer that's cool. Just keep making the great videos. Thanks
Alec - Thank you for NOT wearing one of those stupid face masks! Hard to believe you were forced to quarantine for two weeks. Typical Alec Steele - not a peep of complaint. Like with the dropped-off-the-truck (literally) mill in Mo-o-ontana, no whining. You're one tough dude!
Technically you did pack up tools in the UK, it was just... years ago
Wait really? It feels like he moved a month ago
@@bclaus0 I think it was roughly a year ago
@@shalormckee2784 almost 2 yoears, i think...
Man, time has gone by quick
@@otsokivivuori7726 it was 12 Nov 2018 the last video he made at the UK workshop... Crazy
Love how your first thought was to simply cut the plasma cutter down in order to fit the cart, as opposed to just rebuilding the cart to make the space taller, lol!
Really. He could be building custom carts for everything in his shop. Most of the generic, ready to buy ones are cheap crap bare bones... and expensive for what you get.
@ While I do agree with you, I think time is an important factor here. After losing two weeks in quarantine, he wants to get up and running asap. I would suggest just sticking stuff anywhere for the moment, then customising stuff like shelving/carts etc at a later date. He's going to need the machines to make the storage for the same machines, if that makes any sense. Get everyting working first, then start fine tuning it.
@@2H80vids 100%. I honestly buy lots of crappy stuff that I could build better, because I'm busy running the ranch. Then later, if I have the time, I modify or beef it up if it's not performing. Sometimes, though, you just need a cart for the welder. And sometimes you have used up all your motivation for the day on the jobs that make money, and don't want to think about how to design something unimportant.
So all these local people happy to see you again? Still amazing that you got the old shop back, just needs some flags and stuff to forge and it'll be like you never hopped the pond
Is anyone else having a gut clench moment when Alec is talking about a lathe being delivered at his shop?
Can you explain?
When he got a lathe for the us shop it was all hammered dookie
@@SentinalSlice When Alec bought a EE Lathe and Birdgeport Mill when setting up his US shop, the delivery company dropped and busted them. IIRC the lathe was restored from service on a WW2 battleship. It was heartbreaking.
Hahaha when Alec sang, "My forge is on wheels" did anyone else think, "My spoon's too big" lmao I did!
OMG! ALEC LOVED A COMMENT I MADE! I haven't had him respond to any, yet!!! I am legit excited!!! Thanks Alec, look forward to all the work coming out of your shops :)
As a long time viewer, I feel that actually meeting Mrs Steele on camera will eventually become inevitable!
It's great seeing her be involved, albeit in the background.
it's tough, Alec has a frickin huge audience, being seen by that many people has an energetic effect
I really don't understand why meeting/learning about Alec's wife is important. She's part of 𝒉𝒊𝒔 life, not ours. He's explained(repeatedly) that she doesn't want to appear on camera. Can we not just accept that and move on?
@@2H80vids Fair point. I think a large part of Alec's success is his personality and how he's relatively open about things around his blacksmithing. He's not just showing us the happy flow of forging something, but takes us through everything around it step by step.
One's personal life is closely tied in with that, but it also invites a healthy dose of curiosity, especially because Mrs Steele is so often talked about in the videos, and even has some hair or out of focus cameo appearances.
In the end it's obviously their decision.
Alex, put the velcro on the lid of the pen! You can just pull the pen off the lid, and if you buy the same brand you can click the new pen into the old lid and save velcro 🤩
Alec, Ms Steel, Jamie, Will, the folks back at the US shop. Hello, thank you, and have a great day!
OH MY GOD, 2020, and this the first time I've seen Alec Steele using coolant to cut thick steel. The amount of cutting bits and drills I've seen you destroy by racing through cutting bits pouring out smoke only to snap seconds later.
Es verdad, pero debe ser porque es la primera vez que lee el manual de algo 🤣😂😂
Can you talk about the estimated price for the power hammer and mill? You don't have too
But a price list would be awesome
Mills run from $800ish-$5000 depending on the state of the mill, the size, and any extra features that they might have.
As an example Canadian blacksmith supply sells Anyang power hammers 33lb, 55lb and 88lb power hammers for $3600, $5900 and $7400 CAD Alec hammer in Montana (and that work's) is a 165 lb power hammer. Grizzly tools sells mills and other tools with pricing on their website.
And if you want a cnc you pay 4k - open end
4K would get you a little bit of the tooling for a CNC. Or a broken one maybe
@@andrewphillip8432 one Option is buying a manual and transforming it into a cnc or a small 60-300kg desktop one for 4k plus tooling
Nothing that good but for a hobby enough.
If you really want a good cnc you will pay 15k up for a used mill or lathe
1:51 so im not the only one who rides pallet jacks
I think it's rare to find someone who doesn't :P
@@formelekandscreen Agreed!
Go to 6:45
If you've pulled one you've scooted one, everyone's pumped one up then lowered it whist riding it too 🤣
Use to ride these around warehouse flat out, till you meet a zip tie....
"held up by customs" is the no 1 excuse for forwarding agencies, when they mess up your declaration or fail to deliver required paperwork.
And we have to pay for that
@@shawno8253 not necesseraly. call the customs office yourself and ask what caused the hold up. if they tell you, that the agent failed to produce paperwork or that they messed something else up, confront the forwarding agency with that and refuse to pay any aditional costs. i'm a customs officer in germany and we get quite a lot calls from annoyed/angry customers. sure, sometimes we mess stuff up too, but not on a daily basis.
@@YamahaYZFR6RJ05 good to know. I don't ship/receive large packages on a regular basis, but I will keep it in mind.
@@shawno8253 Yep, I don't see why Alec should have to pay storage for stuff he doesn't want stored. I'd be wanting some answers.
i was browsing youtube looking for a video to watch, and the notification popped up, great timing!
When I have nothing to watch I just go back to watch his old lives he did with Sam, it's really cool and you can learn a lot from it
Its like Christmas over and over.
Easily my favourite videos of yours are the, building/ setting up a work shop type.
Gives me so much motivation and ideas to build mine.
I could happily watch you plan new shops over and over.
These are my favourite episodes. Alec and his small shop, setting things up, figuring things out. Can’t wait to see you with your next project.
New Tools!!! Every mans happy time 😌
Mrs Steele getting brave in front of the camera 👍😬
Anybody else feeling a little nostalgic for the older Steele Videos when he did all the camera work himself? ...love the new shop Alec!
Seeing that big crowbar gave me an idea. It would be cool and a challenging proyect to do a nodachi sword
So does that mean that there will be a collab with Colin Furze now that you’re back in the UK?
Colin Furze should show up at Alex's shop in the US while Alex is back in the UK.
@@brandonfrancey5592 Oh, I could only quiver at the chaos Colin would ensue if he's at the Montana shop...
one can only hope.
If I were Alec, though, I would feel super intimidated by the furze, he's a master
Considering how close they live to eachother one would hope so.
Hope so
Never mind the lathe, when are we going to see Mrs Steele forge her own bowie knife?
In the Chambersberg painting video he said, she doesn't want to be on camera.
yet
Mrs Steele doesn't currently wish to be on camera.
She MIGHT wish to do so in the future, but thats up to her and we've been asked to not push the issue :)
From what I've seen she's said she doesn't want to be in the videos. People should respect that request and not ask.
@@mystic_tacos exactly :)
Mag-drills are INCREDIBLE! I drilled about 1,000 5/8" holes in 1/2" plate to make a welding table, and it would have been impossible without it.
I saw that... riding the pallet jack like a scooter....I do that every time I have to use the one in our warehouse!!!! Brilliant!!!
Am I crazy, or is his accent stronger now that he's back in the UK?
I thought his accent changed when he moved to the US.
But then, as an Englishman, I would! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🇬🇧🙏🏻🇺🇸
I'm perceiving that he's pushing hard to keep his American accent. I reckon it's to keep the connection with his bajillions of U.S. subscribers.

Thats the coolest mag drill I've seen
They are good pieces of kit. When my Powerbor gives up I will get a JEI mag drill!
There might be nothing I love more than watching someone set up a new shop.
Love that your back over here a great time for a 📹 🎥 😆 🏴
Nice, just finished sewing fireproof textil on my workingpants, no more molten Metal burning my Legs 😂
Glad to see you happy and content, keep it up mate!
Love this vlog and appreciate being invited along on your journey and seeing more of the little things! Always interesting if filmed by you and edited by Jaime !!!
I absolutely love going back to older style Alec content. Congratulations on all the success and keep up the great work.
Howdy Alex Nice workshop 👏
Loving this series, Alec, and finding your positivity in the face of major tasks a real inspiration. Keep up the excellent work!
Hey Alex! Hope you and the family are keeping safe.
I just set up my first forge today and this comes out lol
The vigour and entheusiasm with which Alec Steele enjoys his life and the work he gets to do, is truly inspiring. I'm a basically loser 31 yr old who lost his job to covid, but it makes me feel motivated that I can, with enough work, improve my life. Thanks Alec.
Missed this workshop!!! Good memories about the katana and the viking sword!!!
Hopefully you are going to be metric while in the UK. Every time you talk imperial I have to get my calculator out to translate it into something I can relate to.
Yeah that's just the worst 😂
Just the opposite here. Metric is too foreign. My mind has no concept of sizes in metric.
@@nooneyouknowhere6148 Kinda funny really.. Your imperial is defined by metric xD
One inch is actually defined as 0.0254 meters
Luckily I'm in Canada, we use metric for everything, but living next to the US most of us understand Imperial as well (most of our rulers, tape measures, squares, etc have both on them)
@@nooneyouknowhere6148
Your mind doesn't... now it's going to:
1 to 10
10 to 100
100 to 1000 and beyond
Oversimplified but it's already simple... 🗿
Great fun. I would always recommend keeping pressurised air outlets away from eye/ear height. Don't ever test a fitting by sticking your ear next to it! I also use John Guest stuff and it is superb, very easy to configure and reconfigure. Might be worth making up some anti-knock bumpers since you're often shifting heavy stuff around. Knock off an air outlet and the noise will be terrifying (unless it deafens you instantly).
Ya I do my best to stay out of Montana during winter too..... Had to comeback and correct this after catching my first mistake. Thing anything north of I-80 past idaho starts to suck this time of year
Love the content. We have that nylon pipe for our air system at work (50,000 sq ft facility) and it is great stuff!
when do we get to meet Mrs Steele?
Great to see you by your self again doing what you do best! 👊👍👍
Two Bridgeport’s between you and Will in one week. Incredible!
4:02 i was there when it happened. Good times.
Hopefully the compressor can go above the sanding room maybe and then sound proofed...
How will it stay cool and get its air to compress if its in a sound proof box, stick in a shed of its own or a separate room
@@4984Snake no clue
They had it up in the other place
@@4984Snake It will be fine in a box, but on the roof of the grinding room is dumb.
The Hutterites at Glendale Colony, North of CutBank MT, were running the same pipe for Compressed air throughout their various buildings. If you ever get the opportunity to visit a Hutterite Colony when you're back in MT, you must!
So cool Alec! You owe Mrs. Steele a homemade dinner for helping you with the shop!!!!
You know you watch too much youtube when you see the video as soon as it comes out
dude, it says for me that this vid was released 20mins ago. but your comment is from 26mins ago lol
Glad your building a second shop back in the UK. Family is important and it takes work to keep them thriving. Best wishes and luck, thank you for sharing your knowledge
I like how your dog just sorta hangs around
He's baaaaaaack!!! We wanna see a 20 part sword build at the new/old workshop!!!! lol No offense to anyone at the US workshop. Alec making knife's and swords with Jamie filming is what made us love this channel. Excited to see what happens.
damn I remember you building that old forge... A lot has happened since then!
**Safety tip** Air compressor nozzles should point down to save an eye injury.
Another tip: gas cylinders should be chained to the wall to avoid circular shaped holes in the building
Nunca había pensado en eso de la pocision por la presión del aire.
@@H.D.83 No, put them on a proper trolley so they are portable and safe to use and handle!
@@JonDingle That would also work, point is that you really should try to prevent them from falling over.
@@H.D.83 100% we can agree on that. But if your bottles are not portable around the workshop then it makes life awkward having a fixed station (so to speak) for gas cutting and welding. Arogshield light Mig welding shielding gas bottles and pure Argon bottles for Tig welding are safe enough on the back of the welding machines. Safety is everyones responsibility and that includes FLT drivers moving stuff in and out of workshops.
Yay for old school style Alec videos! Lots of jump cuts and delightful silliness. :)
Oh I haven’t seen Jamie edit quite like this in awhile, and let me tell ya it’s a breath of fresh, familiar air!!!
Wait we saw Mrs. Steele! ~
Anyone else wondering about Will's situation?
Your video editing is amazing. I know nothing about steel and the materials you are working with, but your enthusiasm is so contagious, love life, love dreams and your passion. This is what living is, thanks for encouraging others to join you in showing passion. It's great.😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
I work at a sawmill, and for our compressed air we just use agricultural blue line poly water pipe.
Works a treat for us honestly, I've never had a pipe blow and only had a handful of leaky fittings over the years.
So what’s the plan for this workshop when you’re not in the UK?
También tendrá gente que siga trabajando en el cuando no este. O se lo presta a Colin Furze.
Likely sit there unused. Im not sure id trust renting out such equipment. Liabilities would be insane.
@@1014p it can be a satellite shop for the Montana shop, save on import fees and faster delivery in Europe.
@@KipdoesStuff exactly. Just a "double" shop.
So nothing else is changing with their work he’s just splitting time now?
Seems like with Will leaving to his own shop and Alec setting up this new one, maybe the Montana shop is over??
I don't think so. There are people working and running his business
The Montana work shop is very much alive. Alec Steele Enterprises, North American distribution center, manufacturing and sales. Will doesn't want to work on the production line, or polish anvils. When Alec said that Will was leaving at the end of the year, and when Alec realigned the power hammers on his last video in Montana. The righting is on the wall. I spent 10 years maintenance, machine repair on manufacturing.
Always a joy to watch
Have you not thought about baffling for the compressor, from a sound perspective it's in the worst possible place (but the most common place) three reverberant surfaces surround it and it just bounces the noise everywhere, a simple vertical wall and some absorbant material will cut the noise down in the rest of the shop.
Now that your back in the UK is Sam gonna show back up?
I was expecting Japanese A5 wagyu ribeye steak when that background music played in the middle of the video.
hahaha indeed xD
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed 🤣. Maybe he is going to try forging Angel.
So True hahha
I love how alec can turn a pleasure trip into a business trip
Great video man, great to see everything come together
I've never been this early.
Came to the channel for Alec.....but I’m really missing Stelter
I'm sure there will be one at some point. Reportedly he and Jason at Fireball tools are going to try and fix the broken power hammer. I'm guessing that is what we will see next.
I'm missing Sam
These episodes are amazing man, I love seing how you furnish your new workshop. Keep it up!
Who would dislike this video? Why are they even watching it then? I love this new period of Alec's life he is sharing with us. It some how feels like travelling back in time 4-5 years. Enthusiastic and with a big smile on. Good luck Alec!
Remember to clean up at the end of the day
I bet your tools would have cleared faster if they were all metric.
Your content is the best. I'm a woodworker yet this is my favorite channel... ironic lol
Great to see you back in one of your old workshops, Alec!
I still wonder how one can afford to hold two workshops of that size when one of them is only for vacation.
I suppose he has enough sponsors
He's got a huge following on UA-cam , he has sponsors, and he is also a great businessman.
He can make 25k in 5 minutes 😂🤣think he's alright .
Yeah obviously, but I'm still impressed. He sold the stuff of the workshop back then and talked more than once about how the viking sword is supposed to give him a capital to set up a new workshop in America and now he buys the stuff like it's nothing.
I thought this one is gonna be a bakerstreet sized secondary thing but it turns out that this ist going to be just as big as the mainshop. It's just weird to think about it 😄
The US shop is still making money by producing quality products and selling merchandise. All he needs to do is take an amount and exchange it into pounds/euro. plus we don't know what Mrs.Steele does for a living either. This workshop will most likely be overseen by a manager when he's not around and act as a European distribution center for his brand goods.
hi

Thanks for all of the awesome content Alec. I look forward to striking some steel and learning a bit once I get back to the states and have access to all of my tools and a place to call home again.
I didn't realize how much I'd missed the "one man show" that was Alec before his move. Love the dynamics with Will, but some of the antics seemed... unnecessary.
