Once again I get reminded about how lucky I am that I can tell anything to my family. I rlly wish more parents would be able to parent in a way that their child could talk to them. That way it can be avoided that they go online for help and then fall in to traps like these
I am 21. I never used any social media platform except for messenger services. When I was young I didn't have a reason to use it and as I got older I became wary of social media platforms. It actually made my life better as I easily get addicted to anything. I'm glad I never started using it. What irritates me quite a bit is some people think I'm weird because I don't have an Instagram. They actually think of me negatively and sometimes when I meet new people they ask for my Instagram and the conversation immediatly turns to why I don't use it, it's very annoying.

because you don't need it, what's so hard for some people to comprehend that? like I could understand if they wanted to keep in contact with you and Instagram was literally their only means of contacting you.
I've had people where they had no phone numbers, the only way to contact them was via their facebook. so for contacting and contacting only, that's the reason I've ever used a facebook. and when people I talk to stop using facebook, or actually got a damn phone number, then I deleted it.
social media makes it way easier to contact people you need to contact but if you don't need to use it then there's no reason to use it at all.m
and it's amazing how many people cannot comprehend that. I wonder how many of these people would be surprised that some people only use Facebook for the marketplace. or as a way to sign into certain apps because they're that lazy.

I never knew about the other side to the Chris Chan story, i had just heard of his relations to his mother despite actually watching a few videos on the person. Thank you for bringing the much needed light to recontextualise the situation. This doesnt mean that they were innocent but it also doesnt mean they were solely to blame either.

Every discord user is not surprised. This is the tip of the iceberg for casuals. They barely covered anything that really goes down on discord. Every communication/social app is the same. Just look at Instagram, it's the same thing if you really go down the Instagram rabbit hole. Doxing is pretty common on Instagram also.

As much as I like your videos, this one seems off. You are discussing things that happen on every platform that has the ability to create group chats and penalizing Discord because of things that happened specifically there, but have similar examples in many other apps.Although the automatic moderating is not perfect, like every automatic moderation, it's better than in most apps. When it comes to Discord mods, you used a lot of stereotypes and memes, to the point that this section of your video looked cynical. Also the vibe comming from your way of describing furries makes them seem evil, like they should be ashamed for liking anthrophomorphic characters. And that's just because a small peercentage of that community is into cub and vore. I also dont think that humans can be just easily persuaded into liking vore, it's way too atypical for an ordinary person to start liking it over time. Sadly many of your statements could be brought to "this person used a chatting app/social network".

ESPECIALLY when you give anyone and everyone the ability to just make a server of whatever you want and do whatever you want on it. No seriously, this type of behavior and the groups involved have been around for AGES and have been a thing all the way back since myspace even. Weirdos always existed, and will find a platform one way or another. And this video kinda gives off the vibe that "everyone" in discord or at least a majority of people who use it are like this when it frankly isn't the case. It really boils down to the unhygienic, horny and cringe side of the fandom. The weird suggestive art, the rainfurrest incident, the overly political and more are all reasons why people dislike them. Not all furries are like this though. While I’m not one, most of my friends are furries and they’re all pretty cool to hang with. It’s just the very vocal minority that’s garbage, like most fanbases

I had heard horror stories of undertale’s fandom and how someone baked needles into a cookie to give to some fan artist. It completely tarnished the game’s reputation for me. Any time someone would bring up undertale, I’d say I’m not into it and try to change the subject. I’ve since changed because I replayed the game and decided that it was pretty cool. I guess I also belong to the souls fandom? I love elden ring, bloodborne and sekiro but from my experience, there are a lot of elitists in that group. People who take “git gud” far too seriously. I never let that ruin the game for me though. The secret to it all is really to just separate the work from the consumer.

And likewise if you look on the internet long enough, popular video game fandom's are also saturated with fetish fanworks too, sometimes even more extreme than in the furry fandom. I remember when I was young and roamed around 4chan and similar places I was very careful not to leak any information because I was taught from a young age not to do that. A good homelife and relationship with your parents should be a great deterrent for these kinds of things and the existence of more case studies should help even stubborn teens learn the truth.

Whilst its bad, if this didnt happen on discord it would happen somewhere else. If mods shut the chatrooms down, new ones open on other platforms or even the same platform. At least this way these rooms can be monitored. most of what your suggesting are issues with society as a whole and misuse of Multi Media Chat software is a symptom of greater problems.
Agreed. The problem with freedom is that you'll always allow the dregs of society to have an oppinion. Even so, i prefer freedom to silencing. I dont like it, but so long as the devs at discord don't start levying their own agendas i don't think the issue is unbearable. Ok, but like, when you have an app where anyone can create a server about anything and do anything they want on their server, things like doxxing, porn, grooming, and more are to be expected. Ofc, I am sickened they exist, but in our reality it's to be expected that they exist. I've seen these servers be actively taken down before too, but the issue is that since people can just create a server for free on a whim for every 1 server taken down, 2 more will pop up. Unless Discord makes servers pay to make ( *Which we all know everyone would hate and be the absolute death of Discord* ), then I don't see these issues ever being resolved any time soon, if at all.

Doxing is very common as people can send ip grabbers as almost half of the discord users is under 13. This can get there ip address exposed. I remember this happening to 3 users in one server.

As someone who is in their teens, i totally agree. While my experiences were mostly positive hence the people i met either i knew in rl or people i’ve met online who i knew for several years already who are around my age or slightly older, these people never even talked anything nsfw ever unless it was brought up, but that was taken rather lightly and no serious topics were brought up. The only bad incident that happened was some dude asking for my age repeatedly and i kept telling i don’t feel comfortable telling my actual real age.

In general this video was a miss for me. The issues that were discussed here in regards to doxxing, anorexia and grooming are obviously horrible and disgusting, but thats just how messager apps are, they are used to facilitate such things. It's not like "DISCORD IS TRYING TO HIDE THIS FROM YOU AND WON'T STOP IT FROM HAPPENING", like jesus dude, it's not the company is actively turning a blind eye to this, they seem to be doing quite well in recent times in regards to removing and banning such servers.
As one would have noticed, I didn't include furries, vorries and chris chan in the list of issues. Let's start with Chris Chan. As a furry myself, most if not the entire fandom is against the whole cub community side of things and some don't even consider it a part of the fandom because of its depravity. The furry fandom is weird, yes, but it isn't anything that should be defined by the small margin of people who find pleasure in children, being eaten, performing sexual acts on animals, etc. Being apart of the fandom for nearly two years now, i can say with confidence that the people who came to be apart of it were simply looking for a community where they could express themselves through a common liking in anthro characters. Great video! Very informative and I do hope discord improves itself in the future. However, I do notice some bias in the section about furries..
For the clip you used for the definition of a furry, you should’ve credited the UA-camr (aka. SolarSaber); also if you watched any of her videos or did any research you would know that the majority of furries (including myself) don’t wear suits either because they’re too expensive or they just aren’t into that part of the fandom.
Not to mention the fact that there are many many female furries in the community and that the large majority of people in the community (About 80-90%) are completely against cub and pedophilic content. And that the ones who are into this deplorable kind of behavior (the 10%) are immediately kicked out and shunned by the rest of the community.
Also in that entire section you sort of just paint furries in a negative light which kinda came off as unprofessional.

I've been distancing myself with the "fandom" after hearing and finding about many perverted people there. Being a furry, I didn't agree with the segment in this video. Cub furs maybe make up 2% of the community, and are generally banned everywhere else unless its like E621 without the global blacklist or something. I have various kinks I would never try irl but love in fantasy, most of which would be extremely foreign and weird to a normal person. Furs as a whole aren't bad, its more like 5-10% of the community. We try to keep our image fairly clean to outsiders, and there are many wonderful things about the fandom that just don't seem to be covered as much...

Although true, I feel some of the mention issues Discord has are a bit overstated (mostly because I rarely encounter them). And the definition of a discord moderator isn't universal, it's more of a stereotype from some servers.
I didn't really do much research, but from what I know and what I think this all seems very loose. it seems to go more in depth into the people on discord rather than discord itself. In addition some of things are either impossible for discord to identify or things discord simply can't do much about.
Cool as usual Moon, wanted to mention that I'm not a big fan of the sidebar with the current segments. It ends up being distracting and somewhat pointless as the information of how long it takes for the segment to end is just not useful. I think it should be replaced by the usual segments you can put in the description.

Here are my issues:
1. How are most of these issues specific to Discord? As you mentioned, it is become "the new 4chan". If Discord wasn't around, some other platform would be harbouring the very same kind of unsavory people. Discord isn't the root of the issue there.
2. What's wrong with weirdos enjoying their odd fetishes together?
3. This is just personal experience, but I've never encountered any Discord mods, despite making some really off-colour jokes with my friends. Granted, we are not part of any large communities, but, if what you are saying is true, I'm certain our private discord servers were caught by some filters by this point. We've never seen any warnings or suspensions. Could you please provide some details on how this aggresive moderation occurs?
1. The problem with Discord is how people running it themselves don't do shit about crimes like this. See the ending of the final topic. And i don't believe he ever said "this is exclusive to Discord" in the video either. This video is meant to inform people how sick Discord can be because it looks like the safest, most well-moderated social platform out there at first glance.
2. There is nothing wrong with enjoying fetishes with your fellow members. In fact, i'm a big supporter of anti-kinkshaming as long as it doesn't involve literal crimes. The problem is, as you can see in the video, they are pulling minors into the mix and manipulating them into joining their acts. This should be dealt with at all costs. A 13 year old does not need to know what a "furry" is let alone actually engaging with furry acts or whatever.
