- Mee6 is Discord's most hated bot, and it just got even worse!
Mee6 has been through quite a rocky journey. From initially being one of the first Discord bots on the platform, it grew to an immensely popular bot. But with scale, comes increasing costs. And Mee6 had to start moving away from donations to more sustainable financing methods. A premium subscription was born. Perfectly balanced.
But the co-founders of Mee6 started to get greedy. Things took a nosedive.
And when we all thought Mee6 was on its last leg, they did another thing to seal their fate.

It's so bizarre to me that literally every single regular person looked at NFTs and went 'this is dumb, why would you do this' and then businesses, celebrities and techbros all went "THIS IS THE FUTURE!".
It's such an enormous disconnect. I remember major game companies getting ready for NFT-driven games.
It's the MLM of the computing world. Someone else got paid for selling them on the idea. Then later, you get the "business kit" and find out its worthless, but are already committed...
I remember someone had an argument with cryptobros/enefteebros about how something like that could change everything, then proceeded to call them as 'juvenile or young enough to understand it.' The worst thing they could say to anyone who opposed them is 'have fun staying poor' or something.
At that point, I found out that those bros are reaching the new level of delusional. I hardly have any sympathy to them when they lost their money on so-called 'chain' because of the value dropped hard.
NFTs are a trap perfectly set up for the greediest people imaginable, where they have more dollars on the brain than sense 😂
I blocked the Mee6 bot immediately after the NFT bullshit, glad they got whats coming for them.
NFTs are smart af and should be used more if you had any idea of what it actually is. Your perception of NFTs are these random bs AI generated worthless images like Bored Apes and this mee6 trash, but that's people trying to capitalize on the technology. NFTs can and should be used for all digital purchases.
PEE6 managed to get out of lots of situations, so sadly it wouldn't surprise if they managed to do it again.

It's amazing to see MEE6 finally getting what it deserves. I used the bot long ago when it was good, but since then the quality of the bot as well as the general community around it have been getting worse. Perhaps MEE6 will change upon their downfall, but with how it's going at the moment, I doubt it.

I feel you, I used Mee6 bot A LOT in 2017-18, but 2019 it got role rewards premium, and that was the only reason I used Mee6, and when it's only good feature got premium, I booted it out and used Tatsumaki.
I was banned off of a discord for insulting that bot, look who was right all along.

This is why I run my bots on my own server. I don't run any large Discords, but ensuring I have full control over my bots is very important to me. Plus, I don't want my music bot getting randomly nuked like some big ones have in the past.

Yep, I saw this trend coming in 2018 and bunkered down. Was pricey but given what I use and the equivalent cost over the years its been a steal in comparison.
Software that isn't mission critical doesn't exist unless I can run it myself.
The url bug is the literal definition of insecure and bad software. Don't trust them with your data or money.
I died laughing when I saw that bug. It takes literally no time to secure your website against unauthorized requests like that and should be muscle memory when setting everything up. If they can't even do that I am loathe to think how bad everything else is.

The amount of servers I join with Mee6 still on them is startling. The first thing I did when I became a moderator on a server was essentially a crusade to replace Mee6 with a self-hosted bot and on Christmas Eve of last year I finally got to ban Mee6 from our server, and it was the best Christmas present ever.

@@Definitely_Not_Clap Email protocols. Most privacy oriented email services lets you generate separate emails connected to your primary to use on different things. That and it takes no more than 2 minutes to just create a new one, it's really not that hard

Man, it was all downhill when they put the role rewards behind a paywall. It was like the main reason to even use the bot at all in the huge server I was admin for. I didn't even know about all this other stuff, because it was nothing more than a role bot, with a few basic functionalities. Baffling decisions to say the least, and it became shovelware pretty quick some time ago.

Around 6-7 years ago, I first used mee6, and it was okay. After that one time, I haven't owned/created/was staff at a server for a few months or years, don't really remember how long, but after that when I looked again, it stank so fricking much of capitalism I just blocked the bot. For probably around 4-5 years ever since, I rather began coding my own bots that use mee6, and also made sure to slander it as much as possible when I encountered people still using it

I run a server full of my friends and we used MEE6 initially because we felt like it had useful and fun features, especially the music and moderation tools.
When they effectively killed the music plug-in with zero warning (though that is more of a discord thing with youtube) and the moderation tools felt like they were becoming subpar on top of the aggressive crypto grifting, we jumped ship from MEE6.
I don’t regret the decision, fuck that bot.

I hated Mee6 from day one. User tracker bots are creepy as hell, I don't give a shit what it claims. I had the same hate for Tatsumaki (is that what it was called?). Words don't describe how over the moon with joy I am that this horrid bot is finally getting what it deserves.

Mee6 added a ton of new premium features with no additional work on their end. Seems like a win win to me /s
I hated using other bots so i full on learned to code and make my own. Now I own 2 working bots that were apart of my first bot but split it up to make more sense. The very first thing I did was make an admin bot/moderation bot. It works great. Makes tickets kicks bans purges (my favorite command) has a lockdown mode and restores all permissions when you put the server back to normal and more. I use it daily in my server with about 600 people. Now i also have a game im making within a bot to. But the thing im starting to realize is that nobody trust bots at all if they are new or unknown. I wasted years.

idk man. ive been in 2 servers with 20k users each, one as a moderator, and both had custom bots for moderation purposes. both also had people asking fairly frequently to add those bots to their servers, but they would always get turned down because the people who made those bots weren't willing to make them publicly available. maybe you just need to name your bot after a cute animal and add a pet command and then people will want it LMAO

Would you mind telling me why I haven't seen carl in your recommendations much. I use it almost always in my servers to replace paid mee6 functions so I wanna know if something happened for you not to recommend it or if it is just outclassed.
I remember using Mee6 briefly in like 2016 or so for my server but then when they put music behind a paywall we just stopped using it. I don't even know what bots we've been using since, we set them all up years ago and just never messed with them again.

They're losing a lot of money, so they need to make more by adding free features to premium, but that makes people angry making them to lose more money and so on.
They need a different approach to overcome this
I joined discord around 3 years ago and one of the first servers I joined was the MEE6 server. I recently opened that server for the first time in years and realized me, a bot and a deleted user were the only members of the server.

I remember back in 2017 when I first made my discord account, new to the platform I was not too familiar with getting around it. A server I joined had this bot and it was annoying with the pings and dms, the notifications were so annoying so I blocked it. mee6 was the first thing I ever blocked on discord and I never unblocked it, it's the only bot I have blocked too.

Man, I remember when the bot was good, then the second they made Level Roles into a premium only thing i dropped the bot instantly and replaced it with others/manual work. I've just watched the bot get worse and worse over time, pretty lame tbh.

This was the reason I stopped using many bots for features my server was first like 1 bot= 1 feature and it was getting really hard to maintain so then I literally learnt javascript and made my own all in one bot and used a free host to host the bot. Now its really easy to maintain the bot and edit it.
MEE6 owners are just hungry for money there are many other free bots you can use for those same features like if one bot has one feature premium use another bot which has that feature for free.
What host are you using to be free?

MEE6 is honestly a significant part of the reason I developed the philosophy that, if a service is _"good if you pay for it/buy premium!"_ , it's not good... 😹

I started developing a bot to replace mee6 on my buddys server, down to the member role buttons. Actually learned a fair bit doing it

Got a lot of stuff progressively locked behind paywalls, now even stuff I used to set it up for on old servers is locked and can't be edited further (such as welcome messages). Once I need to edit that, I'm going to replace it with another bot
Polaris is a great leveling bot, very customizable and nice.
I used MEE6 in my first server and got really annoyed when I could only do like.. three reaction roles? Now I use Maki on any server I make.

Is there a bot that can replace the customizable and server-local Achievement module of MEE6? That's the only MEE6 feature that I use and can't find a bot to replace it with, and I have quite a few achievements made in that module that I would like to get out of that damned bot.
The mod function isn't locked. Only 2 of the mod options are. They are Automod External Links, Automod Server Invites, and Message Invites. That's why you were able to access the moderator page with the URL.

True. Raid Shadow Legends is a bit too eager to provide sponsorships to almost any UA-camr, whether their channel is kinda niche or fairly well known.
First time adding mee6 to my server was like around 2018-2019.
I can use role rewards just fine.
But last year, i went back to check the bot settings i've made on that server only to find out that i can't access it anymore because of that premium thing.
So what i did is just kicked that bot out of my server and started configuring tatsu and dyno that i've also added not long after mee6 was in the server...

All of this nonsense they pulled but their biggest crime is still being an unfunny Rick and Morty reference
Turns out that my irritation towards the MEE6 bot from the beginning was justifiable in the end
The second they made reward roles pay to win I knew it was the end. The fact now they put levels being a wall now is just unforgivable.
I remember when I used pee6 on a server, when the nft scam and the AI came out we just started to hate it but since it was an artist server and rumors of mee6 actually stealing art of people to run their AI and NFT scam we just kicked him out inmediatelly lol

My friend and me are currently working on a Multi purpose bot with all known bot functions combined in one. Our goal is to make a bot which is completely free and easy to use (only via dashboard). The catch is just that we will put ads on the Website so that we can also earn some money to pay the server costs, team costs etc.
How do you find this idea? Or should we also do a paywall for like 3.99 for very very difficult to code features?
I joined a public server and was startled by the creature right after I selected a role. It felt spammy and completely unnecessary, so I blocked the stupid thing. It felt so validating once I learned how it's being hated by pretty much everyone now.

My personal favourites alternative is maki, still has a lot of stuff locked behind subscriptions, but It has an easy to use dashboard and is extremely versatile
I still use MEE6, I got a lifetime license for it before they changed to full subscription and before they started to paywall everything.
But yeah MEE6 has started to get bad and dodge, but I don't think I could pull away MEE6 with how integrated it is into my discord now
Lots of things I didn't know about yet, but I'm happy to hear this. I always hated this bot cause for me it stood for "if you write a lot in the server, you're gonna level up. everyone loves a good level up, so start speaking even if you don't want to" and that seemed so ugly to me that for a long time it was the only 'thing' I added to my blocked people list on discord. So I'm wishing for it's downfall. Never liked it, even though apparently it does way more than just that. But oh well, I'm a simple person.

@@ilexdiapason Its not "not talking" its about "communicating in moderation" like writing only when you have something to say. I dont want to talk just to release words. I dont want to say "hi all" new message "wave_emoji" new message "xd" just to farm bot-points for an unnecessary point system.
There are those servers where you join for information on games or their development for example, and leave messages in the sense of feedback or asking a question. Forcing people in a place like this to talk more than what is needed feels counter-productive at times.
And I dont care about any nitro feature cause I dont have nitro. :D

I remember I used mee6 and set up all the things in my personal server, and then after couple of months didn't touch the server, I want to chill and listen to music but I got weird out because the command doesn't work.
Then, I opened the mee6 website only to see all the feature that I've used in my server is behind the paywall. After that I kick out mee6 bot.
Remembered when I joined Discord for the first time. Mee6 used to have the Mr. Meeseeks avatar before we see what it is now

I use Carl bot (the turtle) for moderation and Amaribot for leveling and role rewards.
As someone that's been using discord since 2016, the only thing i had ever seen of MEE6 was the ban messages i'd receive shortly after joining new servers lol

I actually found out that the grandfather-ing of premium services only works for that specific server you had used all the now premium features for on MEE6. If you were to create a new server on NTTS you would run into the exact same issues as new discord accounts. It’s great 👍🏽

Mee6 also has a problem of having a way to make nukers adjust permissions without them showing up in audit logs. Which I did before and nuked a 44k member server three times in one week.

I remember one time beating this one hard level and sending a screenshot in my friend's server and going "LET'S F**KING GOOOOOO" to which it deleted my message and dmed me"You are USING too MANY CAPS in YOUR MESSAGE" and it was that day where I despised every atom of it. I changed its name on every server to TRASH6 and blocked it. while spamming my caps messages in the form of screenshots while giving it a middle finger.
You might argue my friend's are at fault but they didn't tinker with it much when it was added, it by defaults policies the place on its own standards which is full of shit

i used to love using mee6 back in the day, just made a new discord server recently and saw literally 80% of mee6's content is locked behind a paywall, literally only the level/welcome feature is all you can use now. ill be using a different bot.
