The disturbing part is that people act like a rule is going to stop it from happening. Do you know how people get access to those cameras? Dumb people put them on their internet connection, don't secure it in any way then scanner bots find them specifically because they have no security on their cameras. A simple rule won't stop that, all those cameras that were taken down are still accessible, it's just simply not on that one website. The only way to stop it is by telling people that they shouldn't get a camera unless they know how to properly secure it.

Oh hey, The Library of Babel if anyone was intrigued by the idea, someone named Keiwan made a game on itchio just called 'Library of Babel 3D' which is just a game version of the library you can wander around, walk up to a shelf, pick out a book, and read it. They have reference numbers you can look up on the site as well which, as far as I can tell, means it's not just a random text generator and you could theoretically find this video's script. It's fucking mind boggling.

I remember the public camera site being used to find a woman's assaulter cause a guy randomly started viewing a camera and had seen the assaulter drag the girl behind a building where he proceeded to assault her. The guy who had witnessed the crime through the camera contacted authorities where the guy was later arrested and jailed for 2 years I think.
The wildest part is, It never takes long to stumble onto sites like these. I remember being about 14 or 15 and stumbled onto a website dedicated to car crashes and even showed the aftermath and what the bodies looked like. I only browsed for 40mins that day

The saddest thing about these websites is most of the traffic is minors. All of us had that naivety to watch gory videos and visit strange websites, when we're too young to be able to handle it. Looking back now, I have no idea what interest I found in these kind of stuff.

honestly, I've been on the internet since a little kid now, I was probably about 5 or 6 when I found 8chan. I was introduced to it while looking up cat and dog pictures while my parents weren't home. I thought it would've been wholesome like the side of 4chan I saw back then, I was completely traumatised by what I saw and I wasn't on the internet for 4 years after that since I was so traumatised, I isolated myself. This isn't really a vent comment or anything. Just to remind some kids watching this to not believe everything they see or know on the internet and not to end up doing stuff other people saw.
I'm so glad that I have little internet access as a kid before school introduced me to everything about the internet. When I interacted the internet as a kid, I primarily restrict myself to flash games or google images, but all of that paled in comparison to outside recess.
I feel like the homicide monitor's data is skewed due to regional reporting bias. Smaller or less developed countries are probably less likely to have that data on file let alone have it be accessible - or, worse, have greater trouble even knowing the homicide happened in the first place.

I'm almost 37 years old and I remember the "wild wild Internet", back in the late 90s and early 2000s, when most of those darknet websited were accessible through normal browsers. I remember being 12 years old and how I was bombarded by a lot of cp banners, that made me sad and angry. Or a sick classmate obsessed with zp who was always watching those videos. It's good kids aren't so easily expossed to this kind of content, but parents should be watching their kids.

My friends went there once and asked it like "Where we are" and it gave us the name of the room, we were in, the school, and etc. It was pretty scary. The name of the website was something related to John from the Bible or maybe it was Revelations. And the trick was that you couldn't ask it any questions until you've read the entirety of the Revelation book in the Bible. It was pretty creepy and I still have no idea what trick they pulled to do that.
bit of a late answer but the trick is pretty simple and its not rly working like u think it does - the one answering ur questions was ur friend the website is called "peteranswers" and there were two textboxes for ur friend to fill one was the question and the other one was the "petition" where he had to write something like "peter please answer" in the "petition" text box there was a trick, if u pressed the "." button on ur keyboard in that textbox it would write the petition itself, regardless of what u write in reality and what ever u wrote in reality would be peters answer for example: what u wrote in the petition text box: ".You are in ur parents house with ur friend" what the petition text box showed on the screen: "Peter please answer" ur question: "Where am I?" peters answer: "You are in ur parents house with ur friend" my english isnt perfect i hope this is understandable

It kinda did get made last year! It's called Dream Scenario (2023). The production company, writers, and director are different than the original crew as reported by Movie Insider though. I'm not sure if Dream Scenario and This Man are the same project which warped over a decade and some change, or if Dream Scenario took inspiration. The image is also actually just based off of a picture of (the creator of the hoax) Andrea Natella's father when he was younger. Natella never said anything about splitting the image by age or gender, but that's a fun thought!

There's quite a few websites similar to insecam. I once found one of them while doing a different sort of project. First it took me a while to realize it wasn't just a simple scenery, despite having the low fps of a regular security camera, you started arriving to cameras at homes, seeing a small lamp, a cupboard, someone making breakfast. Maybe a snowy street, I stayed at that one for a while, someone walked their dog, another went out the store, no one knew they were being recorded and anyone could see. That's just messed up, I didn't enter again

honestly, I've been on the internet since a little kid now, I was probably about 5 or 6 when I found 8chan. I was introduced to it while looking up cat and dog pictures while my parents weren't home. I thought it would've been wholesome like the side of 4chan I saw back then, I was completely traumatised by what I saw and I wasn't on the internet for 4 years after that since I was so traumatised, I isolated myself.
This isn't really a vent comment or anything. Just to remind some kids watching this to not believe everything they see or know on the internet and not to end up doing stuff other people saw.

I'm so glad that I have little internet access as a kid before school introduced me to everything about the internet. When I interacted the internet as a kid, I primarily restrict myself to flash games or google images, but all of that paled in comparison to outside recess.
I feel like the homicide monitor's data is skewed due to regional reporting bias. Smaller or less developed countries are probably less likely to have that data on file let alone have it be accessible - or, worse, have greater trouble even knowing the homicide happened in the first place.
Some of these just make me feel uneasy about being on the internet at all.

I'm almost 37 years old and I remember the "wild wild Internet", back in the late 90s and early 2000s, when most of those darknet websited were accessible through normal browsers. I remember being 12 years old and how I was bombarded by a lot of cp banners, that made me sad and angry. Or a sick classmate obsessed with zp who was always watching those videos.
It's good kids aren't so easily expossed to this kind of content, but parents should be watching their kids.

bit of a late answer but the trick is pretty simple and its not rly working like u think it does - the one answering ur questions was ur friend
the website is called "peteranswers" and there were two textboxes for ur friend to fill
one was the question and the other one was the "petition" where he had to write something like "peter please answer"
in the "petition" text box there was a trick, if u pressed the "." button on ur keyboard in that textbox it would write the petition itself, regardless of what u write in reality and what ever u wrote in reality would be peters answer
for example:
what u wrote in the petition text box: ".You are in ur parents house with ur friend"
what the petition text box showed on the screen: "Peter please answer"
ur question: "Where am I?"

It kinda did get made last year! It's called Dream Scenario (2023). The production company, writers, and director are different than the original crew as reported by Movie Insider though. I'm not sure if Dream Scenario and This Man are the same project which warped over a decade and some change, or if Dream Scenario took inspiration. The image is also actually just based off of a picture of (the creator of the hoax) Andrea Natella's father when he was younger. Natella never said anything about splitting the image by age or gender, but that's a fun thought!

There's quite a few websites similar to insecam. I once found one of them while doing a different sort of project. First it took me a while to realize it wasn't just a simple scenery, despite having the low fps of a regular security camera, you started arriving to cameras at homes, seeing a small lamp, a cupboard, someone making breakfast. Maybe a snowy street, I stayed at that one for a while, someone walked their dog, another went out the store, no one knew they were being recorded and anyone could see.

Funnily enough, in the last few days of me writing this we had multiple CMEs/solar flares impacting Earth (hence why the Auroras were visible to so many people), the Event was caused by a colossal CME so it really doesn't seem very paranoid to prepare for solar weather affecting us
