The biggest problem with the internet is that with so many resources available, we end up "knowing" a lot, but actually understanding very little of it.
Indeed, you are right. This is because knowing something is one thing, understanding it is another and knowing how and when to apply your understood knowledge is something else. In today's society they rather be kept entertained with knowledge than the struggle of understanding, and the hard work of applying.
Information overload. People are inundated with information and data but don’t know how to pick and choose relevant data or refine information to create robust models. They are also hyper emotional due to their upbringing which causes them to incorrectly analyse data which leads to people have the stupid and weird opinions on life that they do now.
Yh its slowly destroying the world too 10-15 odd years ago world was far more self conscious than it is now, all that died when internet became people new stomping ground instead of reality and the real world they live in sad but world seems to be coming to end the way it has become undone
Never have more truer words been spoken at least pre social media the bsinstream media was lead by pros but then sports talk, shock jock, hip hop, video gaming, trash TV began to creep into mainstream media then it all went to he'll with social media just pure amateur night at the apollo.
How The Internet Destroyed Critical Thinking Forever: STEP 1: Turn human life into a contest for clicks, "likes", and "going viral" That's it. The end.
When you're about to cross beyond the void veil... Reflect carefully. "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul's fate revealed. In time, all points converge, hope's strength resteeled. But to earn final peace at the universe's endless refrain, we must see all in nothingness... before we start again." --Diamond Dragons (Armageddon's Ballad) 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
To feed off that, another thing that saddens me is that in this oversharing landscape, people don’t protect their intimacy. There seem to be no boundaries. I think some people don’t even know what that means…
I think it's the polar opposite. People speak like experts about shit they heard 5 minutes ago and then cry like toddlers when they get negative response. So they flock with people that have same opinions and then you have echo chambers.
I had a young friend explain this to me. He said the exact same thing. His age group are hyper aware of criticism and think that life is a series of nasty comments. He said they're afraid of being judged. I told him that's how a coward thinks. He spent the next ten minutes trying to rationalize living in the fear zone...
As a zillenial (99), I will never give my children an iPad, or any kind of internet access until they are much older. Kids don’t need to be exposed to so much so fast. Nor do they need to feel like they have to have technology to have fun. I know so many people will say “wait until you have kids and they won’t stop crying!”, but I was raised without an iPad or iPhone (didn’t get my first smart phone until I was 16) and my parents still managed. Centuries of parents managed to keep their kids quiet without technology.
Go on, make them technologically illiterate and have them struggle in the post-ai world. Monitor it, don't outright ban it unless you want to raise a rebel.
Zillennial! I like it, haha! I'm from 98. I think more parents will be raising their children with less technology in the future as a direct reaction to how bad things got for the youth now. Let's hope we can reverse this before it's too late.
I was raised in the middle of nowhere out on the country, there was no net out there until i got around 17 years and i got a smartphone way later, which i have almost no interest in using, except staying in touch more conveniently. I dont think i can get used to them, too many features i dont use, i would rather have a stationary phone, it would just be more my style. I've also noticed the phones can start bugging out, or the touch screens, while the old stationary phones felt more reliable, for me at least. Social media and television are two things i dont watch these days, in the past you could watch tv more but there is too much advertisements now, but that goes for everywhere else too. At least on the net you can use adblockers while surfing. I wont be raising kids, since if the parents have a disorder or something, like Adhd, or autism, its a high chance it will transfer. And a parent with disorder raising a kid with disorder just feels like disaster. If people insist on raising kids, perhaps moving out somewhere in solitude with no net would be a way to do it, though you cant stop them from developing interests as you take them into towns, or at school in these times
This is genuinely the video I've been looking for, its scary how no one will admit there is more tiktok brain and internet addiction than there are drug addicts
I agree, but wdym no one will admit? Everyone agrees with this, and videos like this one have millions of views and everyone agreeing in the comments 😂
Big mistake is using it first time before quitting oh well better late than never. I don't even see the reason to use shittok they're the worse since day one of launch and I heard of stories about some creeps on that poisonous platform. It's annoying how shorts are a thing on UA-cam and it's the worse.
Yeah same here. Never really picked up tiktok thankfully but got addicted to instagram. The thing about instagram though is that i also use it to communicate with friends and university group projects, but i then found an app which allows you you to chat with your friends but not see any reels or photos. Basically turns it into WhatsApp or telegram which helped a ton
Whenever I watch short form content it's like I'm losing braincells. It's because it's so fast paced and mostly the contents are cringe. Not all short form videos though. Some are still educational.
A huge part of the issue is just that people are being raised on the Internet and constantly being subjected to content yet they are not equipped with any media literacy skills to actually THINK about what they’re watching
@Lucifer-ku9zpi feel like im in the same boat. But my attitude is different the less people think and follow others the easier it is for more creative or critical or intellectual thinkers to thrive. This is because those who lead never have the best interests of masses in mind in history I see no such examples unless it is the best option for the leader by happenstance
the internet has so much potential to inspire critical thinking and inspire unity. It's still there and I wish more people would use the internet to be properly informed
@@sdfsfmnsdkfsfdsfsldmfl True, I do consume social media a lot but I never went to instagram, facebook and tiktok. I occasionally use twitter but usually with my favorite interest align, I'm not interested in political, petty drama and childish arguments. Shorts was a mistake, I like the old version of yt tbh (the fact that they remove chat feature also made me mad about it) I try reading books in my phone, did it work? Nope. It doesn't smell the same, I'm a fan of experiencing and sensing the book appearances, digital doesn't replace by smelling the good old pages. I need that in my dopamine than getting brain rot every day. I'm an pure asian and gen z born in 06, I am currently watching Sherlock series because I wanted to read the actual books after that
The internet has given a voice to people that nobody would otherwise listen to in real life. But Im still convinced the core of the issue sits with out Education system and Universities that have been completely taken over by big-business, activists, ideologues and political interest groups.
The internet has basically became a giant university campus. Extreme leftists in college used to often grow out of it once they entered the real world, but now they're an ever-present part of the digital world which only serves to give validation to these extreme views.
Honestly schools not teaching about how to surf the web was a missed opportunity since it is my belief that the internet is one of the enlightening tool in the world yet it is the most corrupting tool.
Totally agree! Personally I have been feeling more and more detached from everything because of the internet being used so irresponsibly from everyone, especially schooling. I am a university student and feels that teachers are so detached from reality at times that they seem more like pre-programmed npc more then actual humans. The issue started from the qualifications being lowered, standards of teaching minimalized and overall lack of any form of proper testing or preparation to determine whether the individual in question is truly meant to teach and every year is getting lower and lower. Students are being given more and more freedom and ways to abuse the system in their favor, and such behavior is even supported by parents(this is typical from elementary to highs school). My university teachers feel 50/50. Some are aware of the issues and trying to get somehow along with it and to find a way of teaching at least the essentials to morally low, empty feeling students (that mostly are there just because of social stimulation from parents to get the degree because "you might need it") who give into their teenager fantasies despite being midway their 20s. Others just feel completely detached and try to give advices of more then a century ago to young people without even understanding the tip of the iceberg they are trying to teach or trying to make others explore. At times treating us as teenage kids or even younger then that. The way the world has changed is ridiculous and they are still living in their imaginary land thanks to having a stable job, powerful connections and most being old and, an opinion that has been showing more and more correct, developing mental barriers that basically don't allow them to see the more nuanced the situation is in the world, promoting their partners, internet mentality and more bs of this kind (all this if theh actaukly show any form of care in what they are teaching). Not surprising most of them are people that are approaching retirement age and that will have benefits even after they do retire.
the part about lurkers and npcs really struck me tbh. its weird to realise that theres so many people watching and judging and its kind of scary. not only that, the explanation behind bias bubbles and group behavior struck me as well. its pretty logic when you think about it. its so much easier to adopt someone elses opinion and follow the larger group instead of weighing the pros/cons and trying to separate fact and tomfoolery (XD). its a really cool video and it really got me thinking, ty
Unfortunately in the next few decades, critical thinking will only disappear further until comments sections would be completely useless due to the lack of people sharing their opinions
is the goverment who control it to make teens uultra dump into a fandom Cyber terroist cyber ipad brts communities but where is the free internet technology is not for help internet is a lie if they shut down entertrainment or if they shutdown goverment controls on internet what happens next
Tik Tok is only one part of the problem, need to get rid of social media as a hole and encourage people to express their free speech without being harassed for their opinions.
The algorithms also make people doubt their own perspective, or even sanity. You watch one video because the thumbnail catches your eye. It's talking about some social issue. Then, because you watched it, you start getting more suggestions for videos about this topic, and then more and more. Suddenly, you're under the impression that this is the hottest, most important topic of the moment. Then you bring it up to a group of people in real life and they look at you like you're an alien.
This is because on the internet, people regularly talk about issues that irl society just simply does not. We've grown up in a society where you're told not to talk about things, to sweep them under the rug, to not bother people with your problems. Yes, the algorithm will show you more videos based on whatever you have watched. Isn't that be such a beautiful thing though? I believe it certainly can be. It seems like an important topic, because it IS an important topic, and now you know what is going on and can potentially do something about it, such as spreading awareness or donating to a charity. This is why social media and the internet are an amazing tool. Many many people grew up with their pain and hardships being silenced or ignored by society. On social media, they have a voice.
@elizabethq1709 yet, they either decide to not voice their opinions, or simply quiver in fear by leaving half-assed responses. I might be wrong tho. Keep me posted.
cancerousn I disagreed with the *"sOciAL mEdiA aNd ThE iNtERnEt aRe aN aMaZiNg tOoL"* because in real reality, all internet societies and internet users are bunch of fence-sitters & grifters with their illogical fallacy and personal double standards since either your or someone else personal opinions are aren't allowed to be posted online. Either you shut up and stop posted, or get banned by the administrators or the mods itself. That's another real painful personal experiences and real reality. Trust me, I've been attacked by these cancerous societies, internet users, and normies several times before, but these are the same people crying like babies who couldn't get over about 4chan back in the 2000s during the internet Wild, Wild West era while they continued being those degenerated cesspools on the internet. Don't think the internet is "tool" if you're using it the wrong way in the wrong place, in the wrong time.
I am literally the only person at work that doesn't bring my phone to work and scroll through it every chance there is, and it shows because I can read and think critically and they can't. I give myself 1 hour to check UA-cam before starting my day, and it's usually your new vids or a couple other channels that remind me why I stay off the Internet for long periods of time. Not including video games, but that's still better than doom scrolling.
Willingly predisposing children to any addiction is a serious form of child abuse, no matter which ever way you want to spin it. Also, if you think you're getting away easier by giving a toddler an iPad, you're only making the rest of your life considerably worse in the long run (as a form of poetic justice).
I've always been one to try to improve my critical thinking and such. When I find myself consuming too much trash or low quality stuff, I attempt to switch over to things that are more beneficial. I don't drop technology altogether, but I try to find content that is beneficial to me in more ways than just having a thing in my face.
Nice. Me as well. I've been working out, I don't have tiktok. I just disabled door dash. I can get away from taylor swift on fb though. I like science and block news outlets.
@@LLANTALOBOTOMIK Jewjitsu is brilliant! It depends on the teacher, I was taught by a Shaolin Monk from China, he actually helped me with personal self defense. All Martial Arts have something to offer, I've done several, it really depends on the teacher and not so much the art in my experience.
What I do to combat spending too much time online is set aside 1 hour per day, usually between 3pm and 4pm and do no screens or music. That hour is for prayer, meditation, other reflection, journaling, and reading books, not even for chores; it's just for cognitive purposes. I spend the hour outside if the weather permits. I still probably spend too much time on the internet, but that 1 hour helps. Just listen to the birds every once in a while.
The CIA backed a website called LifeLog. It's mission was to gather as much data about users as possible. The business was ended, the day before FaceBook was launched.
I kind of so the same. I go to work for 8-9 hours a day and do my job (contractor/ home remodeling.) That way after I come home and eat, take the dog out, feed her, it leaves me with a small window to consume internet, even on my phone. It’s very refreshing.
I felt this a lot as I used to love reading but since I started watching short videos I’d stop thinking and feel blank I’m glad I’m now realizing this and working to change this it won’t be hard to change now since I’ve been working towards this change
I stopped using social media as soon as I became aware of the after effects. It's been about 3 years since I stopped using tiktok and I feel that I am outside of the matrix you could say. Everytime I see someone scroll I feel disgusted. I do fitness and write down every week what I can improve about myself. This makes me feel happy short and long term and doens't mess with my brain or physical wellbeing. I am happy to be who I am, I am just sad not everyone realises how disgustingly bad tiktok and other apps like instagram and snapchat are for them. Edit: I still use youtube to watch these kinds of videos and watch cooking videos which is seen as social media but I dont see them as a bad thing.
You say you are disgusted when you see people scroll. This sounds like a personal problem caused by negative perceptions of how people are able to obtain information. TikTok, Instagram, or Snapchat are not any better or worse than UA-cam. They're all platforms where you can share and view videos and opinions. The same way you feel happy short and long term from your methods of self improvement, I also feel happy about my methods of self improvement, which include a lot of Tik Tok videos about mental health, physical health, and navigating life in general. I am also happy to be who I am and part of what helped me become confident in being myself again is advice that I got from Tik Tok. Just a different perspective to consider. While I understand that social media and the internet has its cons, I also believe that overall it is a powerful and wonderful tool that has brought so much good to our world. And videos like this that demonize the internet are unhelpful in figuring out the root causes of the issues discussed.
I've experienced it myself, months of not properly challenging my mind, scrolling social media, watching youtube video after youtube video,.... your thinking gets sloppy, you struggle to articulate yourself properly, you lack original thoughts, you just start feeling dumb, dead inside. The good news is you can reverse all of it, you just have to start actually challenging your mind again in ways that forces it to adapt to be more capable.
The part about the proportion of people that actually post online is SO important, and we need to be aware of this. It's more than just the 90-10 rule stated here. Yes, 90% of people are lurkers, and 10% create posts, but you can break it down further. Of that 10%, 9% only post a little bit, while the vast majority of online content comes from just 1%. That's so insane to think about. Whenever we look online to see how "the general public" is reacting to something, we're only getting the opinions of 1%.
interesting fact tbh, and remember that out of the 1% that posts consistantly, less than 10% of them are actually famous, and social media promotes noise and overstimulation, so we are only hearing the opinions of the loudest, most extremist 0.1% pretty much
not totally true, i think you meant the 1% that gets picked up by the algorythm 2 examples of this are Noel Deyzel and Mario Rios, two popular but very diff influencers@@vladimirofsvalbard9477
I feel like we are living in "1984 by George Orwell;[Media controlling people], and, i have no mouth &i must scream by Harlan Ellison;[many resource available we get to know alot and understanding very little of it]" zootopia
Yup. Those with coin, connections, crews, clout, computer code, control, corporate communities, and lucrative opportunities have it all. They command how the algorithms work. That's the reality.
It’s nice to know that at least one other person can see this happening. I kinda feel like a ghost sometimes watching it all happen but not really being able to do anything about it, but at least now I know I’m not alone.
The internet is the last bastion of critical thinking, you just need to look for it. Get off social media. The internet isn't just the 5 big sites that everyone uses.
Having less critical thinking is in order to for tech companies to ensure control over society, corrupt tech companies such as Alphabet, Tencent and Bytedance need NPCs so that they can control society more easily.
This video is so true and accurate to me. Most of my time checking comments or reviews of certain videos, movies or situations made me actually not have an actual opinion on the subject, i just assume that what the people say is the truth and sometimes it even changes an opinion i already had. A few days ago i watched Avengers: Age of Ultron, i honestly thought it was a nice and entertaining movie, but after seeing a negative review on it, i almost lost that positive opinion of mine. Critical thinking is what i'm missing a little bit. Good Video.
15:25 This literally happened to me. My 25 y/o cousin who is terminally online was talking to me about political parties out of nowhere and started getting angrier and angrier and then started slinging insults at me and saying I was a million different labels. He was barking out every political label/buzzword. Satanic, Liberal, Conservative, Neocon, Warhawk, etc etc etc. I hadn't even said a word and told him to calm down because I'm not his enemy and he apologized. I have never talked about politics with him or explained my philosophies/ politics. But it's crazy to see how much the internet can influence somebody into a worldview and begin operating in a way that isn't their own.
This video made me realise that my general experience of the internet is mainly passively viewing what other people have done and posted and very rarely posting anything myself.
Each year it seems harder and harder to have open discussions. Crticial thinking must be encouraged without the immediate shutdown of certain ideas becasuse it goes against the expected view of a subject.
What a scary phenomenon to notice. I’ve long wondered what will happen down the line from unlimited access to endless content. There is a very small part of the population resisting this new era, and more people becoming aware to the risks, but it’s a worldwide issue we’ve got to address, at least within ourselves.
I’m proud I went to college (10 years ago) at a time when critical thinking was encouraged. Media Studies should be standard teaching now. You need to look at both sides of a situation and determine your own opinion.
The problem is propaganda has evolved into stereo, both sides are told different versions of the same lie... both sides think they are right, and the other is wrong, when infact both side are being not only kept in the dark, but divided at the same time.
The internet has indeed transformed our minds and how we process information. I appreciate your thorough analysis and the effort to raise this topic. Memes aside, your point on the "NPC" condition rings true in our society today.
The public reaction to covid 19 really was the sheep led to the slaughter moment for us. Like it was a personification of how easily scared the delicate masses really are. And how hard social media connects us
One thing you mentioned was the scanning of articles. I think one problem is that articles these days are just so full of repeating words. Is basically full of word salad, so algorithms can put the article higher into search engines. Nobody writes articles in a concise manner to provide clear info.
"So everyone has one of those days when they're trying to find information on a subject. But the process can be tedious and frustrating. Maybe this has happened to you at some point. There are many reources available to you..." AD "Blah blah blah blah....." AD AD "Blah blah blah blah....." AD AD AD _GET TO THE DAMN POINT!!!!!!!!!_
The worst thing is if you want to share your opinion you need to be polarized, because if you stand in the middle you gonna get destroyed hy both sides
Actually, you can be destroyed by having ANY viewpoint. Social algorithms promote toxicity and banal bickering. If you believe "X", then people who are "anti-X" will pop up to heckle you. It's just the way it goes. Well... until you get censored, restricted, and "invisibilized" year after year after year. LOL
There's only good or bad, there's no middle ground. So it's either your opinion is ethical or unethical. Like are you pro life or pro choice. Are you a "there are only 2 genders" or "there are more than 2 genders" type of person.

When the parents were asked why, they said that their kid had never seen other peoples unmasked faces before. Imagine what that does to someone's mental development.
Everyone responds in either memes or pop culture references. There are no original thoughts. They are just recycling these pre-programmed responses. It’s literally NPC behavior.

@@plantboy6249bi-directional mutual inability to establish theory of mind is inevitable when people are separated by more than two standard deviations of IQ. So what happens when somebody is in that top 2 1/2% but doesn't actually know it is they go through life experiencing other people as frustratingly stupid. The objectivity is a function of having the standard level of emotional intelligence paired with an increased level of intellectual intelligence. Also, IQ is inversely correlated with extraversion (which makes sense as extraversion is solicitation of unknown information from others) so along with increased independence of thought there's more social awkwardness. In the end both parties are wrong about the other--you guys aren't stupid and we're not stuck up, but it appears that way because each side evaluates the other with a theory of its own mind. So we are forever overestimating others and they are forever underestimating us. Means we're always disappointed when they take advantage of us and they're always surprised when we figure it out. Turns out autism's probably a disability because we need to be shown everything once and nothing twice.
as a member of the earliest gen z, i witnessed the technology start devouring people's brains slowly, inch by inch. i am very lucky to not be born into it, unlike the late gen z and gen alpha. it is our responsibility (people to still have their brains intact) to protect younger people from it.
Something i feel i should add as you said "everybody has the same views nowadays" and said how everybody is basically sheeple i was at my school, leaving for the day and i saw a gang of 15, 16 year olds all vaping and this kind of adds to how we are gradually becoming NPCS. Another incident of sheeples in my school can be Year 7s all the way to Year 11s being horrible to each other. Bullying, People being violent to each other, people pushing past each other. This could be a result of bad parenting or another NPC moment.
I got rid of all social media and have been way happier ever since, it’s a total distraction, UA-cam is all I have left and it’s not really social media
Information, and human connections, the internet has made both accessible on a tremendous scale. Once something isn't rare anymore, it becomes boring and worthless. This plays a big reason why narcistic behaviour is normal these days.
As a regular moon viewer, this video really stands out to me with the thing you have talked about including people no longer being used to reading things that don’t give them that dopamine hit
as a digital artist and editor myself…those tech dreams are REAL! Especially when I’m winding down or sleeping after a long session it’s like I still see the screen and my mind is operating whatever app or program I was using…it was a bit unsettling at first but I haven’t had that issue for over a year now…it tends to pop back up whenever I’m learning a new software, I call it phantom swipes 😅😭 terrifying seeing a child experiencing this though 😢
They hate people doing their own research & investigations and consolidating this learning from sources that counter with evidence their narrow and often highly distorted version of reality. Keep learning everyone, keep reading, keep uncovering, keep discovering and keep making yourselves better than you were yesterday.
I learn so much on the internet and it's infinite platforms. I don't have social media, and only consume educational content, with a few exceptions here and there, to have a laugh once in a while. The internet is BUILDING critical thinking in me, from what I can tell. Social media yes, is destroying critical thinking 100%.
Most people are and NPCs and were NPCs before the internet. We're moving back to a feudal age and the NPCs will welcome it, best not to focus on it, and stay out of the crowd.

That's why I love reading, even reading really hard books (Facts & Fallacies by Thomas Sowell for example). It challenges you, it forces you to sit down and focus and you learn a thing or two. During Covid I started doing puzzles as well. Everything is better than nonstop-scrolling
I've also started to do this I've started reading the Bible taking time to watch TV again and hopefully this summer getting outside more the puzzles is a real great thing

I canceled my cable TV back in 2004 because the advert interruptions were getting so bad, I felt it was giving me A.D.D. or at least a headache. Now, with UA-cam, it's getting almost as bad, so I unconsciously limited my time on it too. I never got into social media because I could care less what people eat or drive and anyone who I want to keep in touch with, knows my number and where I live. I always thought social media should just be for small business networking and everything else do face-to-face. And no, I'm not a boomer lol Oh and selling in-game loot boxes to kids is a great introduction into gambling. Can't wait to see the results!
It's very frustrating and unbearable to be surrounded with people that don't even try to think or question anything so I think it's best to concetrate on yourself and try to find like minded people because they still do exist.
let's be honest, the kids with screen addictions will stay stuck in the matrix (or the system, or rat race, or however you wanna call it) while the kids of CEO's, Politicians and Investors will be the ones that will go on to rule the world, having been educated in a way that will allow them to control the masses
Sigh. People have been saying this line since the onset of history. Relax, every generation thinks the generation after them is unsuitable to 'run the country's lol.
Or have absolutely no desire to run society. In turn, it leaves them vulnerable to people with malicious intent i.e. authoritarians, strongmen and dictators, who will seize the opportunity at a moments notice.
I can't help but get reminded of an amazing quote from Kreia that shows us why the internet has hurt us so much "If you are to truly understand, then you will need the contrast, not adherence to a single idea." Furthermore, I love how if a major influencer/new outlet came out and claimed they were an alien everyone would believe it because people would just believe whatever they hear without a second thought. Also, on a more serious note, I know that most responses on the internet are to the absolute worst ways people got their point across and the point of that is that it's easier to convince someone how wrong the entire other side is when you only focus on the people who got their argument across terribly or did the worst job possible on coming up with points on trying to sell you on their position, than if you actually examine what the average person who has that perspective thinks because then you can make it so that the worst arguments for something are all of the arguments for that thing.
"The media doesn't tell us what to think, it tells us what to think about." This quote (Agenda Setting Theory) basically predicted the hashtag NPC era.
I despise these pieces of filth. Looking at their thumbnails with them in the center with white outlines looking at you condescendingly with a passible agressive yellow slanted bold text makes them so dang punchable. Those annoying ass faces ready to yap about either the stupidest sheeit or propagate the most wicked ideologies known to man. They are the actual cancer of this website doing the work for yknow who👃
In my opinion this is one of your MOST important videos which brilliantly and concisely summarizes the reason why it is almost impossible nowadays to have fair debates and sensible conversations between people on opposing sides of an issue. There is no "agree to disagree" or even changing one's mind anymore and what we're left with is everyone thinking "my way for the highway and if you're not with me you're against me." And so when confronted with differing information it's almost like fight or flight mode becomes activated, everything falls apart and war breaks out. Then when the dust settles everyone crawls back into their hidey holes and starts scrolling again, allowing the algorithms to further wash their brains with the information they already believe.
THANK YOU for making a video on this. It's been driving me insane that for the past few months people will literally eat up anything UA-camrs say without doing their own research.
You have once again highlighted key issues that revolve around something that is akin to breathing. The attention of a few generations being used as leverage. But the consequences are so far reaching to societies and humanity as a whole. The people must want to save themselves. It can't work without that desperation.
It's interesting watching these types of videos and then scrolling on the comments only to see the point being demonstrated in real time: an echo chamber. It's the perfect cycle: get upset at the problem while also contributing to it through commenting. We wouldn't have been here without UA-cam recommendations and similar content in the channel and on the suggestions only prolong the cycle, which is good for business at the end of the day.
These types of videos are extremely meta to the point where I have a full-on head trip. I have an awful habit of going straight to the comments before even watching a lot of UA-cam videos, and sometimes, I don't even finish those same videos once I start watching them. When this video mentioned the fact that people often jump straight to the comments to see everyone's takes, I realized I was completely guilty of that myself. I'd like to think UA-cam is a healthier version of social media, as long as you can force yourself to sit through these longer videos rather than resorting to the short form content on Tik Tok, Instagram, and UA-cam Shorts. But as you said, even UA-cam still creates echo chambers.
It's scary to think about how easily the world has fallen into the hands of the ultra-rich and powerful. We've all been sucked into these fake lifestyles. Masking, or just giving up our own opinions to feel like we belong to something. In my own experience, it was video games, online factions, and social media. I turned into a lurker. I would come home from school, and throw myself onto the instant gratification train. If it wasn't for these video essays, I wouldn't seen social media for what it really is: the drug everyone's high on.

Anyone that has worked retail for any length of time can tell you that people have been NPC's far longer than social media has existed. People like to think they are unique. They are not. They never have been.

not really... it depends where you say it online just like real life. there's plenty of right leaning places online and left leaning places and what not.
For people aware of this cycle observing themselves I advice to set a task like "I want to learn about topic XYZ". You then grab a book, digital or paper doesn't matter. You set a pretty low goal to yourself like working through a page, some pages or working on it for like 10 mins every day to start with. Set a timer, turn off the smartphone and internet access and just go at it. In the beginning it doesn't matter whether you really work on topic at hand or can opnly work on like 5 sentences. It is about setting your brain straight. At some point it will become second nature and you go from 10 mins to 20, 30 etc. At some point you want it.

You forgot step 2:
Ban valid information and replace it with wacky personal beliefs, then boost those beliefs with an algorithm.
Most people can't even speak their minds now, because they fear a negative response. It really is just sad.

This. There's so many different perspectives that I never would have considered if I didn't encounter them on the internet.

Same.
I, too, was in college 10 years ago. Graduated 2014 and can't believe it's been that long.

Mate, being bullied bc you’re a furry doesn’t count.
It started well before 2016
The problem is propaganda has evolved into stereo, both sides are told different versions of the same lie... both sides think they are right, and the other is wrong, when infact both side are being not only kept in the dark, but divided at the same time.
It's a silent apocalypse.
that’s indeed a very accurate description

The internet has indeed transformed our minds and how we process information. I appreciate your thorough analysis and the effort to raise this topic. Memes aside, your point on the "NPC" condition rings true in our society today.
Nope. It has shown us the weak minds. Strong minds remain.

What were their views? That sounds incredibly stuck up.
Sounds like undx ASD, the vast majority of which is completely unaware because it's out here intellectually compensating with IQs well above 130
Means we're always disappointed when they take advantage of us and they're always surprised when we figure it out. as a member of the earliest gen z, i witnessed the technology start devouring people's brains slowly, inch by inch. i am very lucky to not be born into it, unlike the late gen z and gen alpha. it is our responsibility (people to still have their brains intact) to protect younger people from it.
You can thank mainstream music too.
Anyone else remember when the phrase "you can't believe everything on the internet"? Shame that's not common knowledge anymore.

Thank you Moon. This video is great and extremely related to our daily lives. It's crazy how much this relates to my personal screen/internet usage.

And no, I'm not a boomer lol
Oh and selling in-game loot boxes to kids is a great introduction into gambling. Can't wait to see the results!
It's very frustrating and unbearable to be surrounded with people that don't even try to think or question anything so I think it's best to concetrate on yourself and try to find like minded people because they still do exist.

Not all of us are like this. Have some hope
let's be honest, the kids with screen addictions will stay stuck in the matrix (or the system, or rat race, or however you wanna call it) while the kids of CEO's, Politicians and Investors will be the ones that will go on to rule the world, having been educated in a way that will allow them to control the masses
Nope. These youngsters will end up as pets in a digital cage.

0:16 I have my own opinion

It never fallen into their hands, the world has always been kept by them, from time to time we had wars and revolutions but after that the new order emerged and power went back to few at the top. It always has been like that and I think it always will be
true, the rich and powerful have always been in charge of the world, they just seem to be better at hiding it
back when we had world wars and stuff, it was the weapon manufacturers and construction companies that profited
nowadays, the profit goes to the people who own tech companies and stuff, they have too much control over us@@patryknacewicz9371
The drug everyone’s high on is crucial
When you're about to cross beyond the void veil... Reflect carefully.

not really... it depends where you say it online just like real life. there's plenty of right leaning places online and left leaning places and what not.
Anyone walking the streets staring down at the phone , not looking where they are going, counts as an NPC.
