  • Let's cook a chicken in the original outbacker stoves.
This Outbacker stove oven is great for Hot tent winter camping in the UK. The hot tent I am using is the onetigris iron wall stove tent.
boiling water in my new firemaple steamer.

Hi Dan, just added a comment but not sure if you’ll see it thought I’d try a reply too.
I was just pointing out that your flue is on upside down and dangerous that way so you might want to pin the comment? I know as I use the smaller version without the oven.
All the best, the failed hermit.

Hi Dan, that double ended pipe section is supposed to go on first at the bottom nearest the stove…..by having it at the top means your joints and flue are upside down and the creosote will run in between the joints causing it to weld together when cooled down like you mentioned. If it’s very resinous or wet wood it can even run down the outside of the flue inside the tent and smoke a lot or even catch fire! (There are vids on here showing this)
Anyone rushing out to buy one of these, don’t put the double ended section at the top…put it at the bottom! 👍

I m looking at installing in my shed. You are spot on re instructions saying the double female end is at the bottom but I m worried about water ingress in the joints as the gaps are facing upwards to elements.do you think in this type of permanent installation that it's better to do it the opposite way round

Thinking about it, as it's not a backpack stove and more of a car carry, they could do an xl model with the oven having 2 shelves so you could do your chicken and roasties together and use the top for the veg having the full roast dinner space. 👍🏼👍🏼

Impressive stove/oven for sure. Thanks for the review. Chicken looked really good. Personally, I prefer using an already cooked chicken (Tesco, other stores are available), for the following reasons. 1) they are already cooked in a rotisserie type oven, so no chance of undercooking. 2) you can season on the outer skin as you wish and stuff half a lemon inside to keep moisture in; 3) the cook time is considerably shorter; 4) the entire chicken is trussed and tied and takes up less room in the oven; and finally get a cheap digital temp probe whether raw or pre cooked. Once it hits around 159F internal it will be moist as can be.
Great stove; great review. Keep on keeping on. Nice to see your channel develop so well 👍

It looks a nice stove, does the hot air flow all around the oven or just the side nearest the fire and over the top? Have fun with cooking lots of stuff. I normally take a Coleman folding oven on camping trips the only trouble they need a gas supply and tend to use a lot of gas. Suggestions for the future make a pizza, make some cakes & my favourite whilst camping, make bread. (Episode 130 "Bake with Jack", he's an excellent source of knowledge on baking matters). Have fun, Barneey

Nice video very interested in the stove I have a couple questions if you have a chance to answer, One is it possible you can reverse the way you put your pipes on instead of sliding down on the pipe it’s better to have it upwards and slide them in that way any pitch or Creo will burn down through the pipe and not get stuck in the seams outside, and I think for cooking that chicken I would preferred to have put it on the rack and use the pan as a grease trap, that way it would’ve been more like a convectional roaster and the chicken is not laying in the fat, looks like a great oven but my main concern is the pipes, to me it would be a better design if you flipped them 180 degrees,
