  • Join me on a rainy winter camp in a very large hot tent. I don’t normally camp this close to my car so I took full advantage of the proximity and brought along quite a few extra luxurious on this trip. Needless to say, it was a very relaxing and comfortable camp. I hope you enjoy the video! If you have any questions or comments please leave them down below.

    Absolutely superb mate. I almost fell asleep watching this - in a good way! Sheer relaxation with the sound of the rain on the fly and the stove burning away. Can imagine just how cosy it felt - the definition of 'Hygge' right there. Quality as always mate - thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next video! ATB, Chris

    I have watched some of your videos and I am happy for you not having to have one of those nightmare nights with strong winds, minus degrees and tent walls beating up your face. This tent you used is great! You should make this your standard tent. And buffalo wings to eat was a good choice.

      This camp was very comfortable and relaxing 😀. I do really enjoy this tent but it’s not appropriate for backpacking as it weighs nearly 20lbs so I only use it on trips where I am not traveling very far. Love buffalo wings 👍😀. Really appreciate you watching!

    Morning from Aus. Thats great you spent time here. The walking is very different here to there. It made me complacent eg we are at about 700m with a few mountains at 1000m and whilst we do get storms and a flicker of snow, its pretty good (just dont walk in bushfire peaks), so when i got to the UK i thought “piece of cake”… then the weather dramatically sets in and if you dont have the right gear its a challenge. Lol. Oh- that solo walk you did over thise “knife edge” peaks was pretty hairy. I certainly couldnt do that on my own

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  7 місяців тому

      The weather here in the UK has definitely taken some getting used to. You never know what your going to get 😅. It’s actually one of the reasons why I just prefer using my Hilleberg tents now. If the weather turns I can trust them. It probably wasn’t the wisest decision to hike Crib Goch on my own. I was actually really surprised I was able to get the ridge all to myself. But and incredibly beautiful spot!

  • @garryandrews

    Absolutely love this! The tent stood up to hours of rain with barely a single drop of leakage. I’ve recently got the Pomoly Leo 2 hot tent which is perfect as a one man, this looks such a good option if you are pulling a pulk, canoeing or truck camping. Can’t stretch to £650 atm but May in the future. Thanks mate ATB

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  7 місяців тому +1

      I was definitely impressed. I need to actually lookup the rain totals we received. The road I took to l get out here was underwater by the next day. So much flooding. It would have been nice if we actually got the snow that was originally predicted because I could have pulled it in my pulk or used the canoe as I had originally planned. I’m definitely still excited to use it over the spring and summer with my family. The 360° of mesh panels were the feature I actually liked the most about this tent. It will be nice that the kids can just walk into the tent as well instead of everyone having to crawl into our other tent. Really appreciate the comment. Hope you have a nice weekend!

      Thanks Graham! It was definitely relaxing sitting next to a warm fire listening to the rain all night. Drying the tent was a terrible 😂. It rained a few day after this camp so I couldn’t pitch it outside to dry and it’s just so big it was even difficult to hang in our small garage but I was eventually able to get it clean. I really like the pole design and the fact that it’s now a double wall tent. I think it will make it a much more versatile tent, especially compared to the PC version that I purchased. I also think it will perform really well in the wind although I don’t think it will be as quiet in the wind as the PC version. But not having to worry about condensation is a big improvement. I will be getting one to checkout. I am not going to make any of the bold claims that I have seen others make so far 🙄. Especially since most have not even had a chance to properly test it in all conditions. But I can’t deny it looks like a very promising competitor to the Soulo. But as you probably already know I LOVE my Hillebergs! The Vern won’t be a handmade like my Hillebergs but if it’s like the PC version I expect the quality to be very good. Only time will tell if it performs well in challenging conditions. But if it does, it may prove to be a cheaper alternative to a Hilleberg. I’m just happy to see more competition because at the end of the day. We the consumers are typically the ones that benefit 👍

      It looks like it will be. My only concern is that they are shipping it with a seam sealant. I am hoping this is just a courtesy. They use the same flat fell sewing method as Hilleberg, which is fantastic. It should mean that you don’t need to seam seal the entire tent as I have never had to with any of Hillebergs but it is a mass produced tent so I want to see how good the seams are in person. And I don’t plan on sealing it unless I absolutely have to. I have a feeling it will be fine and if that’s the case it should be a great alternative that’s also going to provide you with a bit more space which is the only thing I wish the Soulo had.

    What is the model of that Pomoly fold up stove ? Did it do a good job of heating the tent ? I guess it would need feeding more often and cool off quick. I have a Nortent Gamme 4, a size large Winnerwell Nomad which I think is overkill so I use their Woodlander medium in it. I'm interested in how these smaller titanium stoves perform. I actually made them again for my wife and kids at home only two days later because I was so happy with them 🤣. I did see some of the early videos on the new silnylon version of the Vern 1 that you’re referring to. However, I am a little concerned to see they are shipping tubes of seam sealant with the tent. @Johnnygee10 I completely agree. I don’t do review videos but if I did. I think you would need to at least use the gear for probably an entire year in all conditions before I could give it a proper full review. Especially if it’s a four season tent. I mean we’re coming to the end of winter here so I doubt anyone’s even going to get to pitch this tent in the snow. And some four season tents are not even usable in the summer because they don’t have enough ventilation. These are all things I would expect a review video to have. I typically try not to even talk about the gear all that much in my videos but I do love gear so I definitely share any thoughts I may have while out camping. After seeing some of those first videos that came out I actually contacted Nortent. They had said in the comment section of my Vern 1 PC camp that they’d like to see me use the updated version when it comes out. To be honest, I was a bit surprised they want me to have a look at it after that video but I suppose that’s good. So they said they would send one. I won’t be doing a review but just using it as I would use any of my other tents. It’s more about the camp and the cooking channel 😂👍. Have you tested out the Pomoly Leo 2? I'm considering buying that.

      I haven’t but I like that it’s freestanding 👍. Pretty cool design with all the venting options as well. Ventilation options is probably one of the best feature I’ve seen with many of the Pomoly tents. It makes it a much more versatile hot tent that you can use in the warmer months as well 👍. Planning on using this tent with the family this spring/summer. Appreciate the comment.

    Yes sorry just got to the part where you say you can't get buffalo wings in the UK 🤔😂

      I can get buffalo wings in the UK just not any locally that I like. Many the places near me that serve them have sauces that are tomato-based and don’t really taste like buffalo wings. I’ve had some great ones in York and London though 👍. Luckily, they’re pretty easy to make at home.

    Man you looked so happy. Great video!! I'm glad the Nemo Extreme behaved perfectly well this time. Oh, and the wings... Argh, you made wanna be in the US just for eating wings. Thnx for sharing again!!

      I definitely was a happy camper on this trip. Much more downtime to just relax! I was much happier with how the Nemo extreme performed. However, I was not in subfreezing temperatures and I’m not sure if I’ll even see those temps again before winter ends. It’s definitely a comfortable pad, though like my other Nemo. I think Buffalo wings would be a nice addition to the normal pub cuisine 👍. Although it might feel a little out of place. Appreciate the comment as always. Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
