    I listen to him every morning before I go to work.. He gives me courage like a father.. I don't have anybody so it feels like home somehow when I wake up super early, take my time with breakfast and just sit there listening to him before I go to school working as a teacher myself eventho I have a severe chronic illness.. I often cry but I still force myself out there..

      I think it's valid top use a clickbait title to promote a valuable & important video, I don't think there's someone dumb enough to think watching a single youtube video will change their entire life without additional effort tho...

    It’s pretty eye opening to listen to a true genius and how connections and bridges are made between his thoughts. It’s almost like all knowledge is laid before him and he can see pieces being connected to one another. It’s almost like two or three logical steps happen between each thing he says. He makes leaps from one idea to another and when he sees the crowd can’t keep up, he goes back and does baby steps for us simple minded people. Unreal. It’s good for everyone else that he seems to have a good heart and good intentions for humanity.

    Thanks for covering so many questions in lay terminology that most people can understand. It's also refreshing to hear an expert admit, without offering excuses, that there is still much in this field of research which isn't yet well understood.

      It is possible by researching motivation and will, and human cognition subsystems - software developers can create more adaptive A.I. systems. Current deep learning machine intelligence can be plugged into random computer video games, and with no instructions, in a few hours those systems become expert players of the video game - with no 'knowledge' of what it is it is actually doing.
      Create more powerful mathematical models of motivation systems, and potentially unleash new A.I. to develop far more complex systems...
      Such as redesigning an automobile engine with the goal of maximizing power and efficiency while minimizing the total number of parts and reducing maintenance.

    From my own experience, the intelligence does make you a better person. Intelligent people have the ability to understand more about the Universe and the nature of things around them in general. If I were to compare myself before my undergraduate and now in the third year of my PHD, I would say that we are two different people with different values in life.
    Moreover, I have noticed that the people with low intelligence get aggressive quicker and in a greater number of the cases.

    The most important thing about this guy, more important than his brilliance, is that he loves teaching. You can watch his energy sharpen and he leans forward when he's imparting something he KNOWS will land. He knows because he's attached, justifiably attached, to what he's saying - he has spent a lot of time thinking through it and reducing it to its most communicable essence. He is first and foremost a teacher. They said this about Bernstein. He was the most brilliant when he was teaching. It was his sum total. His highest self.

    with motivation you have to keep tanking it up which is tiring and you flop. I went in 1995 to the Tony Robbins seminars in Aspen/Hawaii; I was motivated by the fact of getting the tools needed to sort myself and live a full life. I met wonderful people from all over the world. When I got back home I felt worse and could not figure it out why. Mornings I had to do stretching exercises; I was sooo tense. A lot of money that took years to pay off the debt. Not everyone is healed

    I’ve seen these clips before, but it was great to return to them, clickbait or not. I’m not, I like to think, the dummest kid on the block, but I still need repeated views of Dr Peterson’s lectures/talks to absorb them properly.
    My experience of learning is this: first, you know something. Later, you revisit this knowledge and view it again, in whatever form of study or reflection, and find that you really know it. A while later, it may be years, you find that you really, really know it! And on an it goes, as you drop down through the layers of complexity - or, paradoxically, simplicity - until eventually, one assumes (I don’t know, I haven’t got there yet!), you attain perfect understanding.
    The humbling thing about Dr Peterson is that, whilst he repeatedly declares uncertainty about his own understanding, to most of us, I sggest, his grasp of complexities is off the map!
    Regarding the clickbait issue; I’m surprised people don’t flag up the shere entertainment value of the good doctor’s insight and ruminations.

      I'm not a Jew and I think what you wrote is true. I think a spirit is born into a particular family, culture, religion, heritage, tribe by Gods wisdom. I reason that the Judah tribe, heritage etc is a special one. I don't believe in being jealous, I believe in emulating and learning from and that includes from the Jews. Is it unfair ? no, souls differ before they come to earth, valiance differs for eg. Some spirits are more valiant for the cause of truth and others less, there's a range. This has some bearing on where you are placed among the parents, families, tribe, heritage, nation etc on earth.

    • @johnharvey4448
      @johnharvey4448 3 роки тому

      The Jews were the ancient covenant people. The modern covenant people go out of their way to the extent of 2 years inviting people to the message at their own expense to bring people into the restored gospel, yet most people reject them and don't listen to their message. How sad, that is like : 2 men who are better educated, better spoken, better dressed, healthier, from stronger families, better prospects, more knowledge about God and then someone in a shell suit, no job, no education, dysfunctional family saying : no, I'm not interested (we know best).

    What gets in the way of your goal? Well, when one awakens to the fact that the entire political/financial game is privately owned and controlled, and the owners dictate who wins and who loses as we allow them to control infinity, then the automatic response is that you need to be chosen by an owner in order for any financial and or political goal to be realized.

    • @farinatty
      @farinatty 6 років тому +2

      Barry A. Depends on what you use them for. Like any measurements in the individual there are outliers: low iq person who is successful businessman, high iq person who can't cut it in the real world, however in larger groups iq measurement works extremely well. Take a bunch of 14 year old children, do a group appropriate iq test on them all. What odds will you give me in a bet that the top 1/3 will be more successful (by any measure of success relevant to socioeconomic status) than the bottom third? Of course the next difficulty is how do you apply this fact usefully, but that is another story. The fact that society doesn't know how to apply this fact appropriately may be what you are trying to get at, but it doesn't make iq tests worthless.

    Wow this is good stuff. Around 6:07 it's great. All my life I've played it safe and I don't have a single regret. I seek out only safe clean places where people are decent and controlled. Times I've had to go where people have nothing to lose I've always been sorry that I've blundered into that situation. My brain doesn't need the thrill of darkness or danger. I get all the challenge and danger I need driving in traffic with idiots. I know folks who love drama and thugs and crap going on constantly. I want things clean and all sanitized and safe...the suburbs ( that I finally got into after 30 years of crap hoods ) suit me fine. Some of the people I grew up with are dead from drugs and aids and here I am a retired Grandma living the good life ( finally ) from the mostly good choices I've made over time. I was not born to a decent life at all I had many disadvantages but I wanted that good safe and wonderful life.

    The secret to helping the troubled four year old. I was, not that I knew it at the time, it’s the classic child rejection story. Father considered me a bastard and raised me with that in mind. By 15 I was in court on petty crime, and I had developed bipolar Asperger tendencies. Certain things happen and a boy learns.
    If I knew as a child why I was like I was, if someone had said to me that my dad was cranky because he feels tricked, at least I might have been able to find a path of my own to follow. I am a human observer, I am excellent at seeing through people and it has been my best friend.

    It is better to not make a goal that requires someone to respond in a certain way because you can't make that someone react as you wish. That person has a free will and may choose to do differently and your effort may be frustrated and you will get angry. Make a goal out of something you can achieve yourself.

    Peterson kinda tells you how to achieve success in his first analogy with the rats, specifically in which the rat had the motivation of hunger. The rat sees the food and proceeds forward with devoting very little attention to other aspects in it's life until it reaches its objective. I didn't get the opportunity of finishing this video, but I suspect Peterson expounds on the importance of "compartmentalizing" obstacles and frustrations that an individual may come in contact with along their journey of reaching their goal.

    I've noticed a trend here: most people complain that this video is not motivational. Even though I do find the video very motivational, I do have to agree with the majority here that the title is misleading. Most people have an IQ that is below slightly higher than average so I can see how this video can be demotivating for most people. On a side note, average IQ with exceptional drive will produce exceptional results.

    This was a very interesting Video Presentation that requires a review or watch over to digest the importance of the information given. Definitely interesting as it requires us to change our perspectives in a number of areas regarding IQ, Intelligence and Virtue, and the topic of Aggression which I found interesting. The topic of aggression is interesting because I did some research on Sharks some time ago and often If a human is attacked by a Shark it is often generalized and can in some cases have consequences for the Shark population. The truth is however, most sharks will not attack you and aggression plays an important part in Shark attacks. Apparently the Shark found in a lot of Human Attacks were said to be "Bull Sharks" and this particular aspect of the species also carry higher levels of testosterone which is associated to higher level of Aggression. It is quite interesting and leads me to believe that even in the midst of quality science and psychoanalysis that the natural element of nature observed may also prove to provide profound answers. Happy New Year Everybody!

      j00 Most likely for the the fact the first lecture which is about the subjects in the title (what motivates us and how to learn to control or direct it) gets cut off at 7:55 and the second lecture/QA is about iq as measurement and predictive tool. If you don't see that and instead want to express a sneering contempt for people who don't pander to bullshit clickbait just because it has a folk hero in the videos then maybe the 2nd half was for you.

      Plamen2007 There is plenty of discussion regarding ideologies in this video. What are you talking about? Hence the dislikes. Ideology: A system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy. Discussions regarding tackling the bottom 10% of the cognitive distribution, a touchy subject, attempting to form a system to solve a problem. Included in every single one of JP’s videos. Please don’t get ideologies based off a problem from a statistical perspective confused with my comment.

    What if on IQ testing you have, say, low blod shugar so you cant concetrate? How valid is that data?

    • @SpiraSpiraSpira
      @SpiraSpiraSpira 6 років тому +3

      An IQ test, and most standardized tests, are only predictively valuable if you assume the test-taker is more or less healthy, rested and ready to be evaluated. If you have a bad day, get tested again later -- if you feel that you are having multiple bad days then you may be trying to make yourself feel better for poor performance or alternatively you may be the type who gets so anxious at "tests" or "evaluations" that they tend to subconsciously sabotage themselves.

    • @iliricumdrymountain8092
      @iliricumdrymountain8092 6 років тому

      Michael Munson im not talking about me, but I was always sceptical at IQ testing back at school. There were too much variables, and colective was not homogenous in any sence. Also they kind of partied too much all night, poor diet, white pasta breakfast. When got to time of testing half of them were almost aslep. Its posible that some got, say 110 IQ and that they are actualy 115-125.

    • @SpiraSpiraSpira
      @SpiraSpiraSpira 6 років тому

      Thats possible. The tests rely on the fact that the test takers should be motivated to do well in them, so people who irregardless are not motivated to show up in a condition to do their best may be capable of scoring higher so in that sense they may have an IQ "higher" than that indicated on the test. However, these types of test are usually used as a predictor for success for some greater undertaking and in that sense they are scoring correctly because someone who isn't motivated to come well prepared for say the MCAT will likely not perform well at medical school even if they are theoretically capable of performing at a higher level. This simplifies things because the MCAT test and IQ tests aren't really the same thing at all, but you get my jist I hope.
