      True true. He just gets so much I didnt even think about. And Im a person that thinks a lot about psychological things like relationships, my own psyche, how things look from other people's perspective, what is right or wrong for me and for others and what not. And with all that I cant come even close to drawing such a clear picture as him. Not even close.

      I'm also 34 and never knew my father - I felt lost because of this most of my life. I got in touch with him a few years ago and realised he was suffering with Schizophrenia and was quite abusive towards me. The whole ordeal left me depressed and suicidal. I tried to pick myself up and after many trail and errors in searching for something I came across Dr. Peterson and after about 4 months of listening to his talks, lectures and books, I've finally turned my life around and am able to stick to a schedule. I am applying to university to become a paramedic. I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me that was possible.

    my parents are alcoholics. my dad beat my sister and I. I abused drugs and people as a result at a early age. I was molested by a older person for years.. I tried to kill myself. I went to two mental institutes. I believe it's impossible for people to truly care. by 17 i was a felon. I kept the same fast food job for years. trap in social situations and daily habits. daily habits I thought brought me happiness. in actuality it made things darker. Jordan you have been the best father to me I can ask for i recently eat homemade clean food i make myself and I clean after myself and I work out consistently. this year I will be able to have my felony removed. I moved on jobs and planning to try to go to college for a practical degree. every day is really really hard but in doing this I feel so much better facing my responsibilities head on and not keeping toxic people in my life no matter how attached. thank you Jordan I wish we had the opportunity to talk. And I know this comment is just another scrambled text in the sea of the internet. But you have made me cry, fearful, and extremely joyful. I would not be who I am now without you

      Know that those of us listening to and heeding Peterson's words support you unequivocally. It is YOU, and me, and humanity to whom he speaks. So much of what he says we've heard before. But he connects the dots, demonstrating exactly how support of our fellow humans raises us when we do it. He explains how his guidelines work, why they do, and he makes us understand. Not one who read the great philosophers nor could have followed what they imparted if I had Peterson simplifies their meanings so I can understand.

    I love that Peterson is considered a "revolutionary" thinker for just saying everything out grandfathers had attempted to teach us.
    Being an old soul living in a big city has felt like living on a different planet. If this is the man who popularises common sense - more power to him

    • @Jo8Nathan
      @Jo8Nathan 5 років тому +27

      He is a revolutionary thinker because he filters everything our ancestors including our grandfathers said, breaks down what works and what is right and tells us exactly why that is. He articulates knowledge that has been around in a way that makes us finally implement it in our lives.
      That´s where the true brillliance lies.

The father I never had.

    • @ImGoingSSJ97
      @ImGoingSSJ97 6 років тому +1

      it's painful, yeah, but at least it has some purpose. It also at least has a real promise for you to become the better version of yourself that is even above than what you used to see as the maximum limit of yourself. Imagine not only reaching your dream, but rising above that some more. You CAN do that, and yeah, I know you don't really believe you can (just mere hoping it's a possibility). Your current doubt will only make you even happier when you do come to realization of the "omg it's actually happening, it really is"

    Ranting for catharsis right now...
    I have had a problem with my own dealings of stress for some time now. Like a fight or flight response, I have turned to “run away” from the confrontations of my own mind. Stress management has been a real issue for me lately: therefore, my life management has taken a toll.
    Yet JP is making me understand that “stress” is both the spike and the shovel. My decisions essentially decide whether I choose to dig or climb out of the hole I’m in.
    The shovel makes me feel safe for a time. It’s a comforting feeling to seep into the mindlessness of escapism. You look into the darkness of the earth and get lost in its nothingness. You put a veil over your stress.
    The ladder is like throwing alcohol to the wound. You blind yourself to the light above. Every inch upwards makes your muscles ache, especially when you aren’t used to holding your own weight. It is what true living feels like. It hurts but you adapt and grow.
    If you made it through this, thanks for listening.
    I plan to continue living my life at a more aware level and carry my decisions with more weight. I hope you do as well.

    We were never told this. I've always lived in two extremes as far as people's reactions to me and encouragement to get on with life: Apathy and nagging. We never had anyone like professor Peterson who knows about life and who actually gives a damn about figuring things out. Someone who's tough AND wise, not friends who are just as stupid as I am yelling that I should get it together. We've all been robbed. Maybe Peterson can help us to help ourselves to get back just a little bit of what we've lost. I'm sure there are hopeless cases among us and perhaps I'm one of them but at least we're getting some fucking courage for once.

    At the end there, he's talking about his 'true self' (the neutral observer/critic) watching his ego run amok...this is well on the way to 'awakening' and that's why he's so easy to listen to because his is speaking his truth as he knows it, no agenda, for the good of all and we sense that from him. We can all do this, we will eventually all do this, then our world will change for the better.

    Every individual who confronts life courageously and realizes the monumental impact they can have through their words and actions becomes an incredibly powerful force capable of incredible positive influence. Any small improvement is worth every moment of effort and can lead to a lifetime of fulfillment. Everyone is exactly what they choose to be, and although there are some cases where life tosses a curve ball or somebody really screws you over or your grade on a test is failing by just a few points or you get fired from a job because you were a few minutes late---there's always an opportunity out there somewhere. There's somebody out there who won't screw you over. There are tests you won't fail and many great things you can do and many great people you can inspire to be just the tiny bit less nihilistic and the tiniest bit less vengeful and the tiniest bit less depressed. You can be that person. If you truly wish, you can write down the things you want to do, how you want to go about doing them, what habits you want to break, and how you want to break them. The world is how you see it and your life is what you make of it. And instead of looking at that statement negatively, if you seek to accept that you can change the world with just the smallest portion of positive influence, you will find you are so very powerful. And if there are two of you or three or four, imagine what you can do. Imagine how much of an impact you can make by taking responsibility for the things in your life. The perfect life doesn't exist and a life without suffering doesn't exist either. But perhaps a life featuring suffering can be made meaningful. Perhaps it can.

      the whining "many" are actually not that many but loud minority. Because 80% of viewers do not comment at all. Of those that comment either to complain about something that really bothered them or those that liked this very very much to put the effort for a comment. Of those viewers that didn't comment a good 60% agree to or like the video and 40% that were neither amazed nor disliked it

    • @ImGoingSSJ97
      @ImGoingSSJ97 6 років тому +2

      Also keep in mind the whiners here are a good portion of those young people that go out of their way to be not like the 'majority". Even if it meant being seen as a fool, their craving for attention (oh wow, he must have realized something we didn't-this one's a fantasy that literally only happens in their head with loud applause at the end) is satisfied. They will go to the lenghts of stating something they don't even agree tbh only to satisfy the craving to stand out AT ALL COSTS, because he must be oh so smart to realize something the majority of sheeple dont. At this point the "sheeple" are the minority and the obnoxious "unlike others" edgy are the bigger portion (tbf the attention crave is quite addicting and is infectious disease)

    I don't know why I'm so lazy!I know all the consequences of not doing what I know I should do, and sill I don't do it! It's so hard to do pull myself together, and be productive! I fall into all the short term pleasures that I can get, and end up hating myself because of it.

      It's been a year since your comment, so I hope you've found some way to overcome this and get after it. But if not, for you or for others, I'd like to lend some perspective.
      Genuinely, exactly what the commenter above me said; start with cleaning your room. I know most people see it as a meme or a catchphrase, but that is one small thing you can easily exert power over and take ownership of, and at the end of it you'll find that the momentum keeps you going and moves you on to the next thing. It doesn't have to literally be cleaning your room, but pick one thing you've been putting off for a while. For me, it's usually dishes. I'll let them pile up on the countertop for ages sometimes.
      I start by saying, "I'll scrub this one lasagne dish. That's the one thing I need to do." That's it. Do that one thing. That's all you have to promise yourself.
      And I will always, without fail, end up washing all the other dishes, because "I'm already doing it, might as well do the whole pile of dishes." And then, I'll wipe the kitchen countertops, I'll put my laundry on because I'm already in "cleaning mode". Then I'll run the vacuum around, maybe wipe some of the surfaces while I'm at it. Before I know it, I've cleaned my entire apartment. And I feel awesome. And I'm on a roll. So then I do whatever needs my attention next; applying for new jobs, getting some writing done, I head to the gym, whatever it is that needs to be done at that point, I've got the momentum from the stuff I've already finished, I've got the good feeling of accomplishment that makes me crave more, and I always end up having a productive day as a result of that.
      And it all started from cleaning one dish. Momentum is an incredibly powerful thing.
