Rode a limited today with extended reach seat and taller windscreen. It was perfect for my 6'4" frame, felt like my cross country. It does not feel like a 800lb bike. I scared myself in sport mode. When I tried to adjust the windscreen, I accidentally twisted the throttle about 1/4 turn, bike almost left me behind. Challenger is absolutely not a copy of a RG. 2 wheels and fix fairing are the only commonalities. I will be buying one in a few months.
Got a chance to ride a fully decked out challenger at a demo event in Panama City. Love the clutch ,the suspension. That big fairing takes getting used to. Very smooth and impressive. Next I rode the new roadmaster limited, and I must say that felt great to me. Felt tiny compared to my ultra limited, so light and nimble! I'm stuck between those two now. I liked the heated and cooled seat. To outfit a challenger like I want is $$$. It may be well worth it as the price of new Harleys are soaring, even for a used bike. Thanks for the great ride- review. I love me some smoaks!
I really liked the front wheel camera seeing those reversed forks work and absorb that road impressive. As a H-D RGU owner myself I was really impressed when I test rode a demo a few weeks back. The power and torque that engine produces is amazing. Imo I think it may sway some loyal H-D riders to jump over to Indian. The stock
options Indian puts on their bikes makes a H-D owner mad at H-D for not offering the same. ie locking bags, adjustable windshield, TPMS, just to and a few. That sport mode is impressive indeed. Can’t wait to see a full on review ride once you get your hands on a demo. Also can’t wait to hear that engine with different pipes.
That Indian Challenger is one good looking bike. I am honestly a fan of motorcycles not just one bran in general. I would own this bike in a heart beat, I don't care what any fanboys.
People say it looks like a road glide simply because it’s a fixed fairing American motorcycle. It does ride nice, it really reminds me of my scout. The characteristics of the motor, the higher rev ranges. That bike popped me back in the seat a few times. Good video and it’s always nice to see someone open minded about trying different things. Hope you all had a great and fun holiday.
Shawn I totally agree! The more I see of it the better I like it.I think I have to test ride for sure! Glad Kelly is doing better!
From someone who owns harley davidson and Indian motorcycles, they are both good motorcycles .indian is moving forward while harley is stuck in the past!
How does the power compare to a k1600? If you were spending the same money, which one would you get, a K bike or this?
It’s a very cool looking bike for sure. Brings a lot to the table. This coming from a Road Glide Special owner. 👍🏼
I've been waiting for your Challenger test ride for ever, at least it seemed like a long time lol . I thought you were really going to like it. I would love to get my hands on that beautiful machine. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Was anxious to hear your opinion of the Challenger. I like it on its face value so far, but I tend to not want to be the guinea pig on new motors and models. Let the gremlins expose themselves and get worked out before I buy. I did slip up and got sucked in on the M8 on my 2017 RGU, and paid the price fighting the tran to primary oil migration along with the oil buildup in the air cleaner. I see an Indian in my future sometime. Thanks
Thanks Wayne, I can't wait to have the opportunity to spend some quality time with one, it's not one of those first ride and "you know" bikes for me..! Lol Very impressive 1st impression though.
These days, there's no reasons to fear all-new models... They test the holy heck out of these things! Sorry you had the quite rare (never even became an Official Bulletin, just a Tech-Tip) oil migration issue with your RGU..! My early 2016 build date and very low VIN range 2017 SGS hasn't, nor will ever experience any of the over-blown internet warrior M8 issues. Like 99% of the M8 owners over the years now, she'll be 100% trouble free. Just like the Indian, BMW and BRP products we sell the heck out of, the issues you hear of are nonexistent, one-off or extremely rare. Considering the quantity built and sold, bikes are at an all time high quality build and reliability state.
Thanks!!
Thanks for the reply Shawn. Since I remedied my issues, my bike has been very reliable. I am a preventative maintenance freak. Product of my 40 years as a milwright for a major chemical industry. Hope a Kelly is well.
Sat on this exact bike today at Coastal Indian in Myrtle Beach, not gonna lie, it's a beautiful machine and will be mine.
That thing is beautiful, and the sound!
Beautiful bike. When it’s that cold out it’s so important to let it warm up as you ride . Especially a new bike that hasn’t been broken in yet . Wouldn’t mind owning one myself.
Shawn, When I'm able to afford one, I am certainly going to purchase a Challenger (hopefully a Touring Edition as I call it) from you guys up in Vancouver. I appreciate them allowing you to post these videos and comment about all the bikes...but especially the Indians! Keep it up, Rich
Awesome, you're going to love the bike!
Thanks Richard!!
I think those Challengers are gonna sell like hotcakes and you just know that motor is gonna end up in other models. Thanks for the ride along.
I'd like one just without a fixed fairing. I like riding with a windshield when I need it or pop it off and ride without when it's nice.
I am glad Kellys eyes are good and it will just take time. My Sister has diabieties and she follows up with a endocrinologist and there are several programs for meds if needed
Shawn you might want to wait on the new HD Revolution Max engine. Fix fairing has been around but Harley set the pace....... Glad things are going well for you all........Ride hard or stay home😎
This will require further investigation. Great job on the review Shawn!............Cheers!
Good to see an unbiased opinion & review, good in you Shawn. Have a great weekend both
I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say anything major bad about the Challenger. It reminds me a Road Glide.
Harley took their heel shifter and made it an option. I heel shifter and test riding both the 2020 Ultra Ltd and RG Ltd, I had to mentally think toe shift, especially when the salesman told us to romp down on them and feel the 114. That 114 is a monster too. ThOse were fast as hell. Mine still has the 103 😎😎
That blue would be my color without a doubt. I would love to trade my '14 Ultra for one of these, but I can't justify getting into debt again for another 2-wheeled toy. I'm just a weekend warrior with my busy work schedule all summer .... almost 30 large ones would be tough for me to swallow for that. Looks like a great bike for someone who has the time and can pile on the miles. Plus I would miss having lowers for the chilly season and also a trunk .... add both of those and you're over 30 big ones easy. Maybe next year they'll offer a Roadmaster version of it?
Happy Saturday Kelly and Shawn, hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving. I love the new Indian Challenger Motorcycle. That Blue sure pops in the Sunlight. 😀
Shawn cool ride on the Challenger at work. Thanks. Enjoy your weekend with Kelly. Getting our first storm here in CT. Sunday into Monday. Be Cool and Ride Safe🇺🇸🏍🐶
Nice looking bike.. I would not mind owning one once the mad rush is gone on being first..... Not paying retail. Thanks for the ride!!
I like the locking bags from the fairing and red pin stripes 😎😎
What a beautiful bike. Love the red line tires because they remind me of muscle car tires. She said take me home Shawn .
"It's some kinda purty".
Hee-hee🗨️😎👍
I had a 2009 CVO Roadglide and ended up selling it because I really disliked looking at/over the fairing. I like the looks of the Indian fairing even less, it’s huge. To each their own but I’ll probably be keeping my 2007 Road King for a long time!
I knew you would love it! I felt VERY comfortable with the bike immediately. Loved the handling. For my needs they need to offer a tour pack for it. Awesome bike. Hopefully Kelly is continuing to do well.
I'm sure the 2021 will have a tour pack, and lower fairings.
How does your Friday after Thanksgiving at work include so much fun. That Indian is really cool. You guys stay warm and stay safe!!!!
I knew if I searched your channels I could go back and find some Indian content. ;)
Cool..! Hope you enjoyed it!
Thanks!!
Awesome video (as usual), Shawn! I like the fact that you always (usually ;) ) start your videos off "at home", it sure as hell makes you stand out from everyone else on the interwebs - well, maybe apart from Zack and Adam in the MC Commute series. Nevertheless, your videos always have me watching, gives me a few minutes to loaf at work and ALWAYS put a smile on my face. Keep up the good work! Rynhardt, Cape Town
Thanks!!
That is one very nice ride. Looking forward to your in depth test ride on a demo.
I was hoping you were going to take it on Interstate 5 and let the horses run! You can get some bass in your face with them big speakers. That Challenger is some kinda purdy. Love the multiple camera angles. Good stuff Smoak!
Great colour. I have seen a ton of video's on this bike, everyone seems to rave about it. Too much motorcycle for me but I can appreciate it all the same. Thanks guys.
Scared to ride one lol might like it too much!
I can see it now......... Shawn trades Street Glide for Indian Challenger.......... great looking bike Dude!!
To all you tubers, it only matter s of your individual opinion. You got to love what to drive (or ride). Like my Ford truck is better then your Chevy truck or vice versa. If you like that a new Indian bike that much GO OUT THERE AND GET ONE !
Gorgeous bike, might trade my harley for it
Cool looking bike, thanks for the ride!👍
Sat on one yesterday and what shocked me was how low the CG is on this bike. Lifting it off the stand was an immediate feeling of lightness for such a big motorcycle. Surprised you didn’t put the shield all the way up and see how it protected you on a cold day. Next time maybe
I commented on that also. Indian really got that engineering right. I love that their baggers feel light on their "feet".
Got me thinking about the Indian now too, Dad-gummit! I haven't looked at any of the numbers on it yet. In fact, this is the first video I've watched on it. I'll be looking forward to having you ride one longer and give a true non-magazine-advertisers money review. I've really enjoyed my Eluder thus far, but there are some minor things that maybe the Indian does better. Had a great ride here yesterday. Even saw 80F temps. Supposed to be just as nice today. I think I'll take advantage of it! Peace and love friends!
H-D needs to step up with their own water cooled Touring Bike. I have a feeling they'll have something by mid-year.
Don't hold your breath on that! They're too greedy & still stuck on trying to sell on their name and image ... all while charging you more & giving you less every year. The new Challenger is gonna hurt them. I think they really screwed up coming out with the Pan America adventure bike when everybody else has that dept. covered already. They should drop the PA idea altogether and build that 145 hp liquid-cooled engine for torque for the baggers to compete with Indian, but they'll never get their heads out of their asses!
Did you get the feeling that you need to upgrade the rear shock like on a Harley?
Just like the new Harleys, not at all...
Thanks!
Every review I have watched they all love and they all say the same thing it's fast and very comfy
I watch your channel quite often & wonder why you don't have a Indian motorcycle in your bike inventory at home? Guess it's personal preference.
Hi U2 very nice colour on that Indian Shawn looks like a very nice bike🤠👍
Hey Shawn how does the Challenger motor compare to the BMW 1600 K bagger?
Other than both propelling a two-wheeled vehicle down the road, there couldn't be two engines so different from each other... The K1600 is faster, lighter & more powerful in every way, and an apple vs orange different type of bike and ride experience.
I personally would pick the Indian Challenger over the BMW K1600 any day, but I wouldn't have both bikes in my thoughts if I were looking at one or the other... So different..!
Thanks Edward!!
Soul (Indian/harley) vs performance (bmw) ..my opinion. I have the 1600b..I test rode the challenger..didn’t trade it for the challenger. But very nice.
The sound is like a Victory... It's a cammer after all.
I ride a Road Glide but I'm not a hater I believe the Road Glide is becoming very popular and Indian seen the potential and made a sound buisness decision. I'm a Harley guy through and through so I wont be buying one. But I'm sure it's going to do very well.
Thanks for the test ride and your impressions. When it first came out, I was not impressed with the look. As well, I do not care for the look of the Roadglide either. I still remember your exact words on the Roadglide…"That thing is hideous." But my local Indian dealer finally got a couple of the Challengers in stock and as I sat on it and checked it all out, I have to say...it is really beginning to grow on me. I would really like to take one out for a test ride and who knows... Thanks again Shawn and Kelly for your videos.
Road Glide's competition.
To me Indian motorcycles have always retained a classic 30's deco styling. While Harly's much less so. The Challenger keeps this tradition with the flowing lines of the body of the bike particularly the tank sweeping down into the seat and on to the rear fender. Harly has its own "beefier" look. This has imo the major difference between the two great American motorcycles
flowing lines? you mean victory styling and liquid cooled big brother scout motor with lots of plastic on dull dash , bags are harley shaped , Classic deco is now no bling just blah I will keep my 18 RM Elite aka 1948 chief
👍😎👋👍
That is a good lookin bike.
Looking at it sitting there my first thought was how far can you lean that around a twisty road?
Then my next thought was, is that going to end up in the "TheSmoaks Stable". Very Cool. You could always get it for Kelly's Christmas.
Remember when you buy something expensive, it's always easier to say I'm sorry than to ask if you can buy it. LOL
Very, very nice bike👍
Lotta stuff right in fernie a but still a nice bike Take care guys
Fixed fairing bikes like this or Road Glide are better riding bikes.
Kelly rides the Spyder, so which is more wanted: BMW 1250 or Indian Challenger 😎😎
For me, hands down an R1250GSA or R1250RT, between the BMW and Indian...
Thanks!
TheSmoaksVlogs Kind of thought that 😎😎
I think ur garage needs one to add to ur collection. Ahha nice bike for sure.
I was waiting for you to review this. I rode one last week and said the same thing about the ride feel. I don't know if it's the suspension setup, frame geometry, or both, but indian makes a neutral feeling bike that seems lighter than it really is. I believe the rear monoshock is made by FOX.
It is a Fox shock. Polaris owns Fox.
Hello Mr Smoaks when u get the time check out the steam channel it's very cool
I like the tech, I like the competition for HD, but it just doesn't do anything for me. Cool though, I'm sure they'll sell some for sure.
I'm so jealous of you smoak but I thank you for your review. What do you think of Indians fit and finish on their bikes? I can't wait to take on for a test ride. Stay safe
The fit and finish seems absolutely top notch to me..!
Thanks Rodney!!
What is it’s price range compared to the SG/RG? 😎😎
Not sure of the prices of either... Lol I'd have to pull up Harley and Indian sites to see...
Thanks!!
Wow love that colour
Looks like a Roadglide
Sparky the bone collector 😂😂
Dream bike
Next time you ride the Indian how about pointing the handlebar camera at the instruments so we can see tach/speedo movement, we know what you look like. 😁
That camera was facing the Instrumentation until the last few clips, when I spun it around...
Thanks Bill
@@TheSmoaksVlogs I'll have to watch the video again, I didn't see any instrument shots. Thanks for the reply.
@@TheSmoaksVlogs I apologize, I see the instrument shot at 8:02. Guess I didn't realize it was there. That sure is a pretty blue but my wife loves the back seat on our K1200LT too much.
Gostei 😎😁👍🇧🇷
You know, you can press the start button once to turn the bike on, then again to start it.
Yes, it's been like that since 2014...
Thanks for watching!
Nice blue. You need an Indian demo bike. The power reminds me of my Road Glide, she pulls hard like that too.
To tell you the truth, I would be willing to plop the money down on that baby, but I would want it in the flat black murdered out look. I would like to hear the exhaust just a bit louder. I could definetly get that bike out on I40 or I35 and just Cruise. Wouldn't care where or when I stopped.
That Indian looks good but it also looks heavy.
I guess it's fun if you like all that crap on the handlebars to me that's just too much BS
I like this review but honestly that bike sounds like a bone stock Victory.
Very first thought I had that popped in my head was looks an awful lot like a Roadglide.
I think Indian has straight up been trying to copy Harley Davidson on their fairing bikes. I also think that the Indian challenger looks like a road glide with a different headlight. But a also say to each their own.
This bike isn't even remotely close to being a copy of a Harley don't even see a resemblance with the fixed faring, technology alone in this bike sets it apart from any Harley but keep on hating!
Tyrelle Greenwood You are in denial. Just because the road glide isn’t liquid cooled doesn’t mean Indian isn’t trying to copy the road glide.
HD Road King all day long instead of this copycat Polaris!
Why did you bother to watch the video keep riding your Harley!
Road King??? Ehhhhh...they're pretty good. I owned a 2018 Indian Roadmaster with a 111c.i. and it was a great bike, and now I just bought a 2020 Indian Roadmaster Icon with a 116c.i. I've rode Harley and owned several, but once I test rode an Indian, I was hooked. The only issue I had on either Infian was the stock exhaust. To me, it sounded like a Singer sewing machine. So I did the knockouts and gutted the catalytic converter, and now it rumbles nicely!
But that "copy cat Polaris" as you put it, is more American made than your Road King!
