Finally! I've been waiting for someone to review these.
The Toolbox Sequencer has received some updates recently. It's a lot easier to use. I like it for its flexibility and the speed you can get a sequence, LFO, or group of triggers together. A feature added was also recording control voltages and looping them. That increases the value of the module as well. It's worth an updated review.
Are you able to chain or change sequences on the fly easily? I'm trying to figure if this is good for writing more traditional songs with different sections. I like the piano roll editor but if it doesn't I may wind up going with the Frap USTA

How many "Banks" can be saved? does it do continuous playback when loading a new bank?

Does this allow for simple chromatic playback of a single imported sample? Ie sample speed decreases as you go down chromatically and speeds up going up chromatically. Also polyphonically? Basically can I use it for long pad sound design. It's a feature lacking on modern samplers. Thanks...
Are you able to chain sequences together to create songs with multiple sections? Between this and Frap USTA and that's the deciding factor for me
How do you edit the length of clips in the Bitbox? Is there a way? Or is there a workaround? Great Overview
would be nice to hear about how much latency/ jitter there is with the bitbox and if it runs tight, which unfortunately is not the case with many modules.
Barely any latency at all. It syncs nicely with everything else.
This or iPad?
I might be interested in a Euro sampler, but my first thoughts on the sequencer were “clunky and tiny.”
Yeah, it's built for young peeps with perfect eyesight. No good for people over 40. Micro SD card too... easy to lose.

If they added a way to play a set of "virtual keys" that then recorded to the piano roll (quantized or not) on the ToolBox, would that open up the functionality a little more? Also, perhaps I missed it, but do you press the preset arrow key at the top of the ToolBox screen to change to the next pattern set? Would that stop playback or is that how you work around the 32 step sequence? Can you copy & paste between those?
The piano role seems a tad "claustrophobic" to use but overall, its functionality and sequence abilities seem helpful for modular owners that want to save many patterns without changing patches. Perhaps you could tape a plastic stylus to a piece of string then tape that to your eurorack! Can you use the knobs to zoom in and out? That plus the stylus seems essential. Hope we get to see that Synthbox in action! ;)
I use controllers to record the notes in real time rather than using the piano roll. Works fantastically. You can also use the knobs to edit the pitch and note duration.
Oh right! The MIDI controller feature. Forgot about that. Seems like THE way to input notes unless you're going for an accurate or noodle sequence. Thanks. What about changing patterns? Can you switch to another pattern set seamlessly without affecting playback?
Yes, the presets switch very smoothly. You can use the + or - buttons at the top to scroll through, or touch the preset name at the top to access the preset list.
Fantastic. Thanks for the insight! I was incredibly interested in the Toolbox until I got a SP-16 sampler which kind of negated my desire for a Toolbox and Bitbox. Which is great, in a way, because now I can drool over the Synthbox or Fxbox. Also, the ability to change a Bitbox into a Fxbox or Synthbox and vice versa is just so freaking cool.
Can you use a stylus with that screen? Matrix edit looks fiddly af
There's actually a new firmware on the 1010music forum that upgrades all of the sequencers to 64 steps and each of the cells can now be switched between different function types. There's also new CV recording & player functions.

The toolbox can record CV? That was one of my "definitely buy" triggers if it was implemented
It's very similar to recording audio in bitbox, you can choose input settings and a custom length if required, then you can adjust the loop points, amount and play rate. The range is -5V to +5V
I believe the Bitbox can also record CV.

“So, basically” all the disadvantages of modular combined with all the disadvantages of digital software touchscreens, without any analogue advantage nor per-knob function - I’ll give these a swerve.
If modular isn't your thing, why bother in the first place?
Did you watch the review? You do realize that the 1010 Music modules have a boat load of functionality, right? You could spend 300 - 400 on an "analog" modular sequencer with 8 - 16 knobs and if you like creating songs with lots of sequencing then be prepared to meticulously recreate sequences by hand. Meanwhile, on a Toolbox, you could just press a button to switch to the next pattern set. Boom. Next song. Continue performance. Also, MIDI functionality, three LFOs, transposing, etc. ... how is that a disadvantage?
I only stated a jocular opinion after watching, I didn't expect anyone to like the opinion, but a few appear to have a sense of humour akin to my own. No offence intented - ☮️

Mister Shledge - You are entitled to an opinion, but you’re responding to a comment that you believe to be silly, drawing more attention to it and giving others a reason to read it. Worst still, when your 1st response was asking myself why bother, if modular isn’t my thing. Why comment further if the my comment is silly? And for the record, I often watch modular videos hoping to have my head turned and be converted. I wasn’t converted, far from it, so I made a joking comment that adequately expressed my disdain. It is ok that you don’t get the intention of the comment - but that isn’t my problem, is it?
