- An orchestral cover/remake/remix of the theme for the Red Wings from Final Fantasy IV using high-end sample libraries.
For me, this was probably one of the more memorable pieces from the FF4 soundtrack. I remember putting down the controller in the middle of the opening dialog so that I could listen to it over and over. It's a pleasure to finally produce a full orchestral version of it.
I plan to release this on an orchestral cover album called "Final Fantasy IV: Orchestral Selections" after I've completed ten tracks.

I love how this theme has so many emotions packed into it.
It's simultaneously heroic and grand, yet also there's a slightly somber, introspective tone to it. Not to mention it almost sounds like the Imperial March for that bad guy flair. Was always one of my favorite tracks from the game!

Heroic and triumphant yet menacing
This is the beauty of the track, is can be played as both harrowing and triumphant... when you hear it for the final time, it hits differently, you have earned your Red Wings.
The second the brass section kicked in I literally had chills run down my spine. THIS is music, an expression that makes you feel through the power of sound! In the notes you can just see Cecil, clad in black armor, standing at the prow of an entire formation of airships.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt Cecil the only FF main character on the serie with ANY leadership AND fighting experience? And in FFAY, he is the king. To me, it Makes him more believable than todays heroes, even Noctis Who's the prince but always accompanied by supporters whereas Cecil isnt Afraid to fight alone and stand against the empire Who raised him.
Porom is the only real protagonist in the final fantasy IV series
Both him and his own son, Ceodore.
Lin Mayo She has the purest heart, is never kidnapped, and is the ultimate white mage/wizard.
There isn't a better theme in all of Final Fantasy to get you pumped for the game to come.

I'm picturing this as if I'm sitting in a movie theater - opening on a sweeping panorama of the kingdom. At the 0:16 mark, a fleet of massive airships thunders into the frame, much like the star destroyer at the beginning of Star Wars. These are the Red Wings, symbol of the might of Baron.
YES. Give me an actual movie. That game deserves one.

You should have been the guy they hired to redo the music for the DS and PSP remakes of FFIV, hands down.
Alex K I think any professional could do the same job as me in the same amount of time or less with the equipment and software I'm using, but time, budget, and hardware constraints prevent them from doing a really good job. The music in remakes is often worse than the original because the arranger didn't put nearly as much time into mixing it as the original composer did. Regardless, I'm really happy to get your comment! :)

A remix can be considered a bit lackluster or awkward when it strays too far from the "soul" of the original piece. An example of this kind of disconnect can be heard in the Nintendo DS remix of Zeromus' theme released in 2007. Not just any professional has the ability to produce faithful and fresh remixes. At least, not the way you do.
I think you are being a little too humble. I have listened to a wide sample of your remixes on this channel and I have to say I am astounded by your ability to retain the original's "soul" in your remixes. Your work is generally far better than many other remixes I come across. Please keep up the great work!

Thanks! I really appreciate that! I still think the official versions could have sounded great if they had been able to use digital audio (i.e., sample libraries or recordings) instead of the DS's onboard MIDI and if they had put as many hours into it as I did. I suspect that they put just a few hours or less into each track, whereas I put about 20 hours into each one. Anyway, thanks again and I'll do my best to keep making these consistently.

This is an absolutely wonderful version of The Red Wings Theme. This version just gives it more of a feeling of depth and instantly became a favorite. Final Fantasy 4 was my first and as such I love hearing a well done tribute. I feel that this is way that it was meant to heard. Awesome Job!
Thank you! I think I did a decent job on this considering that I made it a while ago when I was still relatively new to digital music production and had a much more limited selection of sample libraries and plugins. There's a lot I could do to improve it though, so I'm planning to redo it this year for my FF4 cover album.
I plan on listening to more of your work once you have finished it.

Please keep doing the music to Final Fantasy IV. It's one of my favorite games due to it being my first Final Fantasy game I ever played, and the score is constantly glossed over by every other game (mostly VII) that it hasn't really had the chance to basque in the warm sounds of a full orchestra.
moogle847 I plan to make several more FF4 orchestrations until I have around ten in total. My first Final Fantasy game was actually FF1 on the NES, but it's soundtrack was not nearly as deep as FF4's. It didn't even have boss battle themes originally. I was completely blown away when I played FF4 (FF2 at that time) a few years later. I completely agree that it deserves a full orchestral remake, and I hope mine will do it justice.

Well so far so good my friend, and I should clarify that when i played Final Fantasy IV originally it was on the SNES as:"II" and when the game started with this theme and your character leading a host of airships...sold. I was disappointed with the soundtrack conversion they did for the DS game but quite a bit of it was fantastic.

OdinReaver Thanks for getting back to me. :) I understand what you're saying now assuming that "Ta" is staccatissimo. It sounds like you're describing the French Horns and Trombones at the beginning. Listening to it again now, I agree that some tighter staccato would have sounded better. It would sound like this: Daaa Da Da Da Daa Da Daaa Da Ta-Ta-Ta Ta-Ta-Ta Ta-Ta-Ta. I'll take a look at it later when I make the "album" version.
