- In short, Kristen is a bad-ass. And so is her van. She game up her regular 9-5 life and swapped it with a mobile life on the road. Her "Bearfoot Theory" van is a 144 inch wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter that's 4x4 which means getting off the beaten path with a lot more ease. It's fully off-grid with panels on the roof, running water, etc. I love this setup so much. She's has carved out a pretty darn-good life for herself if I say so myself. Most likely you will too. I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.

I watched this video when it first came on UA-cam. I’ve come full circle after watching dozens of van conversion videos and I say that this is the best van conversion of them all.

She has one of the best van conversions I've seen! I first saw it maybe 6 or 7 months ago and it's been one of my favorite conversations that I've come across since! 😍 It's very similar to how I'd like my future conversion! I also love that she has 4 wheel drive.

It's not cheap, but nothing close to $250k. Research Sportsmobile & Roadtrek for a more realistic estimate.

This was the first van conversion video I ever watched, and after watching countless others in the last month, this is still my favorite design.... Just perfect.
I love it. I also prefer this style of layout instead of putting the bed in the back.

I am an aspiring van lifer and I have been watching a lot of these videos. Your sprinter is hands-down the dopest van I have seen yet. 2 things I absolutely have to have are the high roof, and a bathroom with shower. If I'm going to live out of the thing, I need to be able to actually live out of it. No public showers for me. Can't wait to have a van just like yours. I hope you don't mind me using some of your ideas!!
This is one of the best van conversions I've seen. Very smart way of utilizing space and having full house in a mini van ! LOVE IT !

Your rig is so clean & impressive. The number ONE utility you have many other camper builders over-look is the Shower & Toilet.
The shower is essential to daily life, period!
The throne is handy when its freezing outside, and you're inside "resting".
I thought for a moment on not having an installed unit with a black water tank, although your method is easier, lighter in materials and far less expensive. Not to mention no "straddling" the throne to shower as in some truck slide-in campers have.
I agree, I am one of those, sighhhhh, can't get what she has. :( but yes, one of the best I have seen.
I've been watching a lot of van-life videos lately. Your setup is one of The Best I've seen thus far. I really like the way you did you kitchen and bathroom in the back. It makes the space feel so much more open when you walk in. Great Job!
Kristen, Thank you so much for publishing this ! I traveled cross country for 6 months last year in my Jeep Rubicon, "Ruby", then took a 6 month break to write a book about my adventures. It was a wonderful experience, but it's really difficult living in a Jeep for more than a few weeks at a time. Ruby has a fridge, propane stove, storage, an AirTop camper, etc. but when you're sitting at a campsite or in the middle of nowhere, there's no place to sit and work. But you know that. Anyhow, I've looked at Class B RV's, and Sportsmobiles, but I love what you've done ! Thank you for encouraging me to go to the next step and create a real life on the road! You're awesome !!
I've seen alot of videos of van conversions that were fancier and more elaborate. But this is one of the few I've seen that needed no changes. Sofa to bed conversion - check. Table option - check. Swivelling front seat - check. Bathroom - check. Efficient kitchen space - check. Would not change a thing. Really well thought out.

I have seen many Van conversion, this is THE BEST!!!, I am always asking to myself, how do you get clean, and where is the toilet. And this is a unique and lovely way she incorporated a bathroom. I love, love, love her work area/dining area. I just LOVE everything about this.

This is pretty much the layout I envisioned and came to conclude as the best for a short sprinter.
All of the same thinking is there.
The nice view, the long ways sleeping, the work desk, *mua*
I personally would have the shower on the left, and the sink next to the bathroom towards the far back of the van.
This has the advantage that the tall shower doesn't block the view when driving (directly behind you is what you don't see).
This also keeps the plumbing all together, where if you're clever in your design, you can use the shower head as your sink head as well. You also retain the benefit of being able to take your showerhead outside.
Lastly, the tall shower directly next to the bed/couch makes for a nice backrest.
All of the water/plumbing stays to the back left of the van.
I would put the stove on the other side of the van, if I have one at all. Stoves will be propane or electric, so water has nothing to do with it. Therefore I'd want it on the right side. The same goes for fridge, heater, etc. They're all electrically powered or propane powered. It keeps the wiring and plumbing to a minimum.
That bed looks like the most comfortable camperbed I have seen, I cannot sleep on those bulky pillows with buttons and stuff...

I think you van conversion is the best. I love the layout it makes more sense to me to do it this way. you don't have to open you back to access your storage and you have a bathroom. Just amazing. The only thing I would include if I were to convert a van just like yours is a microwave/oven combo. Again, you have an amazing Tiny House/Van.
Haha - totally agree with the microwave/oven suggestion! I didn't include it as a critique (in an above comment), as it's more of a preference - funny that someone else had the same idea!

I can't remember if I commented before but, I've watched it over and over because it's truly one of the very best conversion that I've seen!
I would replicate this in a heartbeat. Great layout. I prefer the bed running the length of the van rather than take up the very rear of the van. Best van conversion, hands down.

This is my favourite conversion yet.
I designed something similar with the bed on the other side where her storage is, but her layout is way better.
For the smallest Sprinter it looks more spacious than longer ones. I guess thanks to the smart design : most converted vans got the kitchen right behind the sliding door, then the bed at rear. It is a suffocating setup and that one shows how better it is to feel welcomed by an open space and then have not much blocking the rear of the van. That's a very efficient choice. But the feeling of space is also thanks to the good taste of using a lot of shiny white on the roof and walls.
I do love wood a lot, I planed to have pine everywhere except on the roof being white and lighted by led bands to feel higher than it is and illuminate the van with smooth indirect lightning, but this setup, not only demonstrating how more breathable such a choice is, also shows greatly how nice wood can be better seen if there's a few of it and a lot of white. Contrast makes wooden parts pop. That's very nice and it changes my plans for walls. :)

That js the kind of van that turns the world into your home. All the creature comforts at a base where one sleeps and eats as well as grooming. Also insulated enough so that one can hibernate and vanish for a few days and when you decide to come out as long as you are walking distance from your van. The world is your home. Nice 😀

LOVE LOVE LOVE right down to the electric bike. it's everything I want and nothing more. don't need a 4x4 but everything else is a go. I am probably twice your age but everything there is accessible for a senior.Thanks for the tour.

One of the most logically arranged, liveable and complete Sprinter conversion I've found. Loved the showerhead on a long hose in a small wet bath at the back. Kristen's floor plan feels effortless, with so few compromises - a nice sofa, sleeping the long way, a spacious kitchen work space. So delightful and inspiring.
This is the second time I saw a bathroom inside a van. Great use of space!

wow this is actually such a sick set up for one person! I've somehow got on to watching all these sprinter van conversions and this is one of the best I've seen so far. Particularly like how much storage you have, and you've managed to put in a decent sized sink and two burner stove too which is rad!

That's amazing, it looks very nice too and you can stand up in that van. I don't know how a person could live so small even though I do live somewhat small myself. If I lived in a van I think I'd have to pull a cargo trailer behind it to put the rest of my belongings in. Your galley is the best I have seen by the way. Your shower is also amazing, very nicely done! Oh, by the way, your offset lighting adds a very nice touch.
