  • My name is Arslan and I’ve been living in vehicles for the past few years. My journey of alternative living began after I was fed up with the high cost of rent in the United States. I fell in love with the idea of living on the road, so over the years, I converted a sprinter van, a Camaro and most recently been living in my 2014 chevy suburban camper car. I enjoy making UA-cam videos and recording my different experiences to share with you guys. I’m also a nurse half days of the week because I have a significant passion for helping people.
In This video: I show you what my day looks like while working at a hospital as a registered nurse in the united states and living in my car.
UA-cam Posting Schedule: I usually post on Saturdays 9am EST (NY time). I'm currently posting 1 video every 2 weeks but I'm working towards posting 1 video a week.
I love reading your comments and wish I could reply to all of you but my schedule doesn't allow. But I always reply to SUPER CHATS because they pop up on my phone!
P.S. If I need to tell you guys something, I will comment and pin it on my latest video.

My husband lived in his car in a hospital underground parking garage for four days. Miles away from home he couldn’t afford a hotel room because everything in the general area was very expensive, but there he was living in his car while waiting for me to get through surgery and recovery. He said it was tough at times but being able to visit and spend time with me every day without having to travel so far made it an easy choice. I love him everyday for it.

I'm a retired RN. I spent the last 8 years of my career as a travel nurse and basically lived out of my truck or, when the weather was good, in a tent. I did this to save money for retirement. Every time I could save another hundred bucks on motel fees was a win. I retired at 59 and never looked back ❤ Now I live FULL-TIME in my small house on 11 acres out in the Maine woods NEVER TO BE OWNED AGAIN!!!

I always told him, if there were no nurses in the hospital people wouldn't go there even though they were sick! The nurses are your connection to the rest of the sometimes complicated medical system. They are God's angels. His hands and feet and, most importantly, smile and positive spirit. You can't put a price on what that means to the patient! Big love to all of you!❤️🩷🩵💛

I totally relate to this young man. I am a Travel Respiratory Care Practitioner. I am on my current assignment in Virginia. My assignment facility is located 2 hours from where I am currently staying full time which is a very nice restored historic hotel converted to high end apartments. I work six 12 hour days followed by 8 off days. During the 6 days I work at the facility I live in my vehicle in the hospital parking area doing the same daily activities as this young man. It’s not so bad really. I save a lot of gas since I don’t have to drive back and forth to work and nor do I have to waste good hard earned money on a hotel. I also have easy access to the hospital restrooms and cafeteria as needed. Oh, and I get to walk just a few steps to work every day. I think I’ve got a good deal! … Thank you for giving me added inspiration! PS: I was also nominated for the Daisy Award in 2022!😊

I head in the night before when my family goes to bed and live outside the station for the next 3 days. It saves me over 100 miles and about 5 hours of driving every week. I don't really miss out on family time since I'd get home after they are in bed and leave right when they wake up. Plus I get more downtime without the daily commute. I have a plug, all the conveniences of home (sofa, bed, toilet, tv/dvd, kitchenette) and a gym nearby to shower. Everyone I work with knows what I do but the neighboring businesses don't. It's a very comfortable situation for maximizing my time and minimizing my expenses and gives me 4 days off every week to spend with my family. Loved the video. Feels like having a virtual neighbor.

Nursing professors need to teach the importance of bedside manners, empathy and how to calm their ego's. Most RN's I've dealt with especially the newbies walk around with a chip on their shoulder and put themselves at the same level as Doctors. They need to be knocked down a couple of notches. All you see now is nurses congregating around the nurses station, laughing and joking around and staying on their phones while patients have called upon them for an hour. It's the CNA's and LPN's that do most the work with the patients. I've concluded that I'm not fond of RN's.

@@pokenurse1 I just had a guy come in for minor chest tightness and we did an EKG. It was said that it showed bradycardia. I looked and immediately noticed 3rd degree block. I told the doc we need pacing. I got him versed, fentanyl, and got him hooked to trans/pacing, called the helicopter and had him flown out. He was going to be discharged with a damn 3rd degree block.
No one is ever going to say a word to me about it. I work in rural access ER and no one here has ever paced anyone. I just got that done and no one will ever say a word to me about it. In fact, the guy’s wife was rude as shit to me about the whole thing. I won’t receive a thank you, won’t hear “good job”, no one even seems to recognize that I caught that before he got discharged with a 3rd degree block and died.
I don’t go around giving myself credit or asking for it, but I know if one of the managers caught that they’d be getting their picture taken and handed a plaque. I’m not in the clique so no one is even going to care. More likely they’re going to send me an email about some charting error or something.

February 10 th last year year. Day two post-op. Ovarian cancer- I’d been gutted like a fish. One of my nurses came in and asked if I wanted to stand by the bed. I gave her an honest answer. But I’d promised myself and my hushed in while do ask I could recover. That nurse literally held me up as I have my all to just stand by my bed. I’m a former nurse. I’ve had great colleagues and I’ve had colleagues who should not be in charge of a goldfish. But this nurse helped me in the long road to recovery. It’s hard work and I hope your patients appreciate the work you do

Just a few security tips: don’t allow your bright-yellow cable to be so exposed. Run it under your truck’s passenger side and into the outside outlet. You’re leaving way too much of it visible for anyone to vandalize it by cutting it, etc. Also, try to cover the items in your front, passenger seat with a black or very dark sheet. This will keep these items from attracting the attention of potential thieves when your window covers are removed while you’re away from your truck.

There is a difference between the number of male nurses versus female nurses. Statistically, male nurses are at a record high of 21% in 2021 compared to 7% in 2008 based on "registered nurse" statistics. I worked for a phone company for 18 years, and there was a 20 to 1 female versus male in that industry. So, speaking about an industry that in past years was primarily women IS GOOD. I will not be told what to think or speak about because I grew up in the US in the 60s and 70s. I know the power of freedom of speech. It keeps us free!

I am a retired RN living in northern California . I was an LVN for 8 years and an RN for 27 years. I worked as a nurse in 5 states but was certified in 10 states. Luckily for me California finally started paying RNs a more equitable wage for the past decade. But California also has one of the highest cost of living in the country. Nursing is a very exhausting profession. It takes lots of physical and mental stamina to be a nurse. Many people leave the profession after only 3 years due to burnout. The physical toll on body and mind often leads to injury. Nursing is a very stressful occupation, and every nurse is always aware that exhaustion can result in errors which can impact the patient. Nursing is not a profession for the weak. Living in a van at least takes some of the stress away from the problem of getting enough sleep and the anxiety of getting to work on time !

    • @pjt3887
      @pjt3887 3 місяці тому +1

Amen. The other thing people don't seem to want to talk about is when nurses get hurt on the job and they get seriously hurt often
      They end up on disability.
Everyone knows if you're on disability you don't make enough to be able to feed a cat 2 times a month!
It's ridiculous and repulsive when you look at what the CEO & Board of Directors are paying themselves every year! For sitting on their big fat butts and doing nothing!!!
Not to mention the amount of physical assaults that nurses experience. Some of my friends working in inner-city ER's are being physically assaulted every other shift!
On top of training new Doctors, making sure they don't kill patients. While watching a psych patient. Making sure they don't try to grab a cart and go into a bathroom and hurt themselves! On top of rotating through numerous patients that are waiting for their paperwork or medication!
I don't know how you all have hair left in your head when you go home at night?? I would have ripped it out in the first hour.
I always tell people Nurses are 😇 walking amongst us. Thank you for your service. I know that had you gone to San Francisco or some of the bigger cities you would have been paid double and triple.
My friend works in a central coastal hospital and does it for the love of helping people and because she loves where she lives.
It's very disheartening when all she does is train younger people who can drive 45 minutes north and make an additional $20,000 to $60,000 a year. If people only knew. It's not at all unusual for her to go from doing one-on-one critical rehab care to scrubbing in to help a surgeon with an emergency surgery and then finishing out doing another rotation in the ER because they've had too many other nurses that have timed out on service hours.
This happens on a regular basis it is incredibly rare that she gets 2 days off in a row and is not called into work after doing double and triple shifts. All white being grossly underpaid in comparison to her counterparts that are 45 minutes north of her. It really stinks when most of those are fresh nursing students and you've got 35 plus years and you're literally clocking in all around the hospital Non-Stop!
If the general public only knew how fragile the healthcare system is. They'd be demanding some real change. ❤

Being a nurse is the hardest job ever, if not phsyically, then psychologically. I was a CNA at a hospital working 12's and wow... will never forget it. I am a digital nomad now and live in my rav4. Wondering your tips on how you keep your body from hurting in such a small space! You do seem young so you may not have much pain. I am 31, and my knees are daily hurting from crampedness. Of course staying in shape is key. Thanks for your channel and spreading positivity!

It always makes me so happy to see you've posted a new video! You're living 2 of my dreams (being a nurse and living in your vehicle). It's awesome that you sponsor the snack box in the breakroom. I guess when you live a simple, happy lifestyle you have enough mental energy and goodwill left over to make things a little bit better for other people👍🙂 You deserve a Daisy Award every day!

Hi, I retired as a Mental Health Nurse in 2016 but decided to step back into practice as a Resident Nurse for People With Developmental Disorders (NYS-OPWDD).
I love your story and creativity; Leave it up to a Nurse to think of something that clever. 😊🙌🏾

I went from working with people with developmental disabilities for 18 years then went back to school for RN and went directly into Mental health in 2019.

Idk why it’s so refreshing to see another human live their life so differently than your own. Something about seeing how we do our morning routines the same or other things the opposite. It’s satisfying and entertaining. Thanks for sharing!

I really respect your humanitarian kindness as being a Nurse is truly a challenging job and requires so much energy and compassion even when you are exhausted. In all honesty I can't believe that people who work in these very important occupations are not being looked after by their Governments and provided with cheaper rent/housing. Good on you for finding a temporary solution and showing us that you can survive and thrive. You contribute more to society than anyone else I know and you deserve all the great things in life.
