  • Replacing the ICP sensor on an early 04 truck. The sensor is located under the turbo/y pipe area. Tool seen in video ordered off of freedomracing.com overall I like this way of doing over getting the ICP sensor out from going under the truck. however if you have an 03 style intake manifold it will not work.

    For anyone asking ....what is that👍
    In a diesel engine, the ICP sensor works as a moderator of sorts that insures the engine is running at maximum efficiency. ICP stand for Injection Control Pressure this means that the sensor provides feedback and indicates the needed and existing injection pressure in the injectors.👍🇺🇸👊

      I drove both the 7.3 and the 6.0 and found the 6.0 to have much better power and pick up than the 7.3. I wasn't impressed with the power and pick up of the 7.3 at all. Maybe it needed something I don't know. The EGR was even deleted on it. Are you insinuating that the 7.3 never needs any maintenance or anything.Never has a bad sensor anywhere? I mean it sounds like your opinion is biased. As a matter of fact, you are obviously on here looking how to change an ICP sensor on your truck or you wouldn't be here. Or do you just have such a non life that you go searching for you tube videos on the 6.0?

    Hey I have a 04. It was having problems shutting off after getting to operating temperature. I couldn’t work on it for about 4-5 months. Now after sitting for that time it starts up and runs for a few seconds up to a minute then shuts off. Pretty sure it might be the icp sensor. Was curious on your thoughts. Thanks so much.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  Рік тому +1

      It sounds like a high pressure oil leak to me. To test your icp sensor just unplug it and start it back up. If it runs fine and doesn't shut off at operating temp then you're good, but I think it is likely that you have a high pressure oil leak or failed pump. This brings me to the next question. Where is your icp sensor located and which style pump do you have? This will help me to figure out which issue you're actually having

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  Рік тому +2

      Hey man sorry for being late on responding. So it is very unlikely the hpop. The 05 pumps are very reliable. The issue tends to be from stc fitting that attaches to the pump, stand pipes, dummy plugs. These are likely your cause. I would start with replacing them as they are relatively affordable and they are good to have fresh ones in there no matter what.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  6 років тому +2

      Mainly because it was leaking. I have had issues with my IDP tunes not wanting to drive right so I figured since I knew it was leaking I would replace it. It can cause no starts though if not changed out and if the sensor completely goes out. Which you can actually unplug the icp sensor and try to crank the truck over. The computer will defer to a default value when the icp is unplugged.

      Ipr and icp do not typically a hot no start. Typically on 05s icp sensors are pretty reliable. The next time it happens unplug your icp sensor and if it fixes it your issue is the sensor. So do you have a monitor to check things? Like maybe torque pro would be your cheapest way of getting into monitoring your truck. Then you want to check your icp pressure. You need 500 psi for your truck to start. If you're not reaching this then there is a leak somewhere. One thing to try is to see if your icp sensor is bad. To do this just unplug it while you have the no start condition. If this fixes the problem then you know you just need to replace the sensor. Also did the shop replace the stand pipes and dummy plugs? Did the check the stc fitting on the hpop? Qhat year truck is yours because if it is an early truck you may have different parts. It doesnt sound like they know 100% what the issue is or how to find it from the info you gave me.

      I would be more than happy to help. First don't use starter fluid anymore. It is very bad for diesels. Next do you have a way to read data from your truck? If so the first things I need to know the value of while you try to crank over the truck are ipr, icp, ficm main, ficm logic, battery voltage, ficm sync and Cam sync. Also do you have a fuel psi gauge? If not what you can do to make sure you're at least getting fuel is open up the fuel filter under the hood and see if you turn the key on fuel is coming up. The other thing is I would add more diesel fuel to your tank. Make sure you have plenty the pickup straws can brake in there and cause you to have a no start.

    @6.0 Bros. The last sentence in your description says this won't work on an '03. Is there a short cut for that year? Getting at it from the bottom sounds... Just terrible...

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 років тому +1

      First this is for the earlier year 6.0s. Later years they switched the icp to the valve cover. What I meant is that the 03 manifold has a cross member at the back making it more difficult. I have not tried it with that manifold to see. You may still be able to with the special tool but I cannot guarantee it will work. Going from the bottom isn't fun but very doable. And some prefer it that way. I can get a video out later this week going over how to if you would like. Basically you remove the heat shield at the back which is 3 bolts and then you can get a socket on the sensor and undo it.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 років тому +1

      I do not think it is an icp sensor although it could be, however you are more likely looking at stiction. Which is an issue with the spool valves on the injector. One way to help try to mask the symptoms of stiction is through using an oil additive such as archoil which I have a video talking about. I would try unplugging your icp sensor and seeing if this helps. What the computer will do is default to an inferred number that it believes it should be making. If this solves your problem I would then try replacing the icp sensor and maybe even the pigtail to it.

      Does it try to crank over though. This likely sounds like a high pressure oil leak. On 05 it is either the stc fitting which comes off the hpop. It could also be the sandpiper and dummy plugs. The first thing to check before that is unplug the icp sensor on the passenger side valve cover. If the truck starts and runs when hot then it would just be the sensor that needs replaced.
