As a Scotsman I approve this video. My grandmother did similar in the 1950`s The boiled bone broth, she called it " beef tea" A great tonic for winter colds and flu. Adding veg and lentils etc created a nourishing soup. Bones could be had from the butchers for free if you bought something else. The rendered fat was used for frying, or mixed with oatmeal and onions to produce a pudding (the ingredients were forced into animal gut casing ,tied at the ends and boiled ) It was called white pudding. Some butchers shops still make this, but mainly using pig fat nowadays. She survived 2 world wars and depressions and lived to a ripe old age, I learned a lot from her. No fridge, no hot water on tap, outside toilet, cooking on open fire range. She always had her "war cupboard" well stocked. RIP Grandma!
@@gardenlikeaviking No problem, there are many variations of this pudding. But they all run on the same vein. Haggis, black pudding etc.basically a poor persons sausage. There is another one... fruit pudding. Similar to white pudding, but has dried sultanas etc in it . Works well in a fried breakfast on cold winter mornings.
"Ok my friends", love the phrase. My ears popped up every time you said that. Please do the bone fertilizer video. Can I just bust up the bones and bury them, randomly, in the garden bed? A bag of dry bone meal is so expensive. I don't have a dog, but wonder if wild animal would dig it up.
The thyme in our garden died back...I think it's trying though. Thanks for the recipe! If you ever think "I wonder if they want a video for that"...the answer is yes! Every time 😃
Wonderful instructional video + great explanation! Look how many people are learning from your vast accumulation of knowledge! I have eaten cooked marrow, (it's a delicacy and expensive in restaurants), but never eaten it raw. I may just have to try it! Raw is always better unless of course you're making a cake! Come to think of it, licking the batter spoon is pretty good, so never mind! :)
canning bone broth after thanksgiving with a turkey carcas started me on my canning and garden journey. It is amazing to pull out that turkey broth months later!! I also can pork, chicken, and beef. I have leaky gut syndrome, ibs, and just diagnosed with diabetes last summer. All my gardening and canning has been healing me!!
Not medical advice here from me. Just what I did when I was diagnosed with diabetes. Sip apple cider vinegar with the mother/in water. How much and when is up to you and reading if you are checking your blood sugar with a prick. I choose not to do the wifi readings. I've learned that wifi spikes my sugar. All that comes through my walls. Everything I have is hardwired and smart meter as well as my cable box a few feet away are in an aluminum cage. In my 70s. Now I have to get a pressure canner. W/O the help if her meds.

1) Haritaki Diabetes The Haritaki fruit helps in the secretion of insulin from its pancreatic β-cells, making it active when kadukkai powder is ingested. It also helps reduce the degradation of fructose into glucose; this helps control insulin release that results in low blood sugar levels
I really needed to watch this...I used to make bone broth years ago when I had access to local pasture raised beef and thyme grew like a weed in our herb garden. crab shells for eating or fertilizer??... fertilizer yes absolutely its great to ferment them in the style of the JLF and it makes a very high calcium fertilizer

I have yet to see it sit there long enough to know for sure but at the very least a year but probably many years because once its properly canned its completely sterile
I'm in u.s.a. Unfortunately those that refuse the protocols are being harshly, $, punished. All part of the plan. People new to our great land have to leave because the food here gets them so sick. One girl told me that, when she was leaving after she came here for a job. We don't even know how good healthy food is supposed taste. Other immigrants to Canada are reporting the same experience and are leaving Canada.
I'm going to need a bit of time with this until the farmers sort their game out, the grass fed cows eat chemical grass hence the dairy farmers have large vet bills and vaccines etc, I'm just not keen in these times.
I get that... but at the same time its very important to get these compounds into the body namely high quality saturated fat and cholesterol especially for a man to produce plenty of the good hormones... plus the minerals contained within the bone broth is like gold!... they don't have "grass fed" beef in Ireland?...

you will love it and the minerals are so great for the body!!
So what kind of dinner did you make from all the leftover bits of herbs, onions etc?
after boiling for so long there really isn't much identifiable substances left so I just took the remainder and made a stock and then strained everything out and added back in the beef chunks , potatoes, carrots and fresh onions and garlic with herbs for a delicious stew
We process a lot of pasture raised chicken on our farm. Would chicken feet work? As well as chicken bones? Would it be as nutritional? Thank you as
yes absolutely chicken feet, bones, necks, skin... it won't be the exact same as the beef bones but it will still be highly nourishing in its own right... chicken broth is definitely a superfood!!
@@gardenlikeaviking thanks, bru.
Tarifleriniz mükemmel👍👏Türk bir bayanım.İngilizce bilmiyorum.Lütfen TÜRKÇE ÇEVİRİ DİLİNE DE AÇAR MISINIZ,EKLER MİSİNİZ?
Cool. I am the only person I know that makes bone broth. :)
Do you ever add a spoonful of your preserved bone broth to a soup or a stew?
yes absolutely I like to add it to many things!
I use 100% bone broth for soup. All chicken if I want a milder flavor or chicken flavor and a combo or all beef when it suits me. You can cook beans and rice with broth instead of water as well. 👍
be careful about eating marrow and brain tissues. Prions. BSE.
Apple cider vinegar video and bone fertilizer cider
How long will canned broth last on shelf?
I have yet to see it sit there long enough to know for sure but at the very least a year but probably many years because once its properly canned its completely sterile

can you do a video on how to nixtamalize corn?
I will be eating the marrow
