as a chemist, I strongly recommend always adding any caustic chemicals such as potassium and sodium hydroxide to water and not vice versa. very violent exothermic reactions occur when you add water to the solid powder.

Nice instructional video, only one suggestion; when teaching people how to use KOH or NaOH, they should always be cautioned in the use of caustic chemicals, including wearing proper safety gear like gloves and eye protection, taking care in the clean up of equipment after making non-saponified soaps, and finally, they should remember to add the caustic crystals to the water, slowly, not the other way around. These chemicals react VIOLENTLY with water and serious burns can be the result.

You could make the soap in a block (refer to making soap instructions), Once done, then shred it with a cheese grater. It will make the soap easier to blend with the water. Specially if you give it some time after pouring the water and then blend it.

You literally just made soap! I was wondering when it started because I thought “Hey, this is how we make homemade soap!” So I can basically take homemade soap and use it as a surfactant.

I just started making JWA on Monday before your video! If you use an immersion blender, it gets to trace faster. I only had to wait 24 hours for it to harden. I added the water for stage 2 on Tuesday, after breaking it up. I didn't do the paint drill stirring. Wish I had. I stirred by hand only twice a day, so it is taking longer to dissolve. I also had to use rainwater that I filtered through an unbleached coffee filter because our Walmart was sold out of distilled water. Should be ready by Friday! Love this channel!

You could also let the initial “soap” to completely harden after 24 hours like regular soap makers who slice up their bars at that point and air-dry for a few weeks. After it’s fully cured you could grate the soap and dissolve it into water as needed or dissolve it all at once if that suits better.

thats not a problem necessarily... just continue on and dilute it as illustrated and be sure to agitate it slowly!

For those who care…..non organic oils are processed with highly toxic Hexane. So if you are desiring to be as pure as possible in your care of your garden…..use only organic oil.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would like to try and make some. I collected some leaves and placed in a black plastic bag with holes and added some Bokashi and let it sit for almost a year and then placed in black plastic tote and add a little Bokashi every now and then. It now pretty much looks like dark rich leaf mold a year later. Can I use this instead of the forest stuff? Thank you, Jim

This is not a Castile soap however, it is soap. This method is different, but it looks good.. You can bathe with this soap.

The ingredients for this cost about $20 US where I live which works out to almost 20 times cheaper than the price I can get Dr Bronner's Pure Castile Soap.

Dr Bronner's Pure Castile Soap is the best. I have been using it for years...Since I went to college in California in the 1970s!
~ Bio-degradable, Natural Soap ~ for everything ... i.e. Camping. (Washing hair in the lake, washing dishes, clothes etc.)
Nothing beats the Smell of their '''''' Almond''''''' Castile Soap. Nothing. ~ Smells so good, I want to eat it!
Hey....can you add in an Almond (extract / flavoring / smell) to this ?

They changed the Dr Bronners soap. It is now made with hemp so I don't know if it is as effective as it use to be

Making this and other Viking Jadam recipes this week while I'm off work...excited!! In a live a few weeks ago, you talked about using olive oil. Would that be an exact measurement conversion to get the best result?
