You have nailed all of our references, from art to music. Congrats XD
Cool game!!
He also nailed the problem with dash so I hope you guys will look into it as it does hurt the game unfortunately
The art and animation are incredibly well done; which is why it's such a shame that the over-exaggerated idle animations are so awful. They move far too much, far too quickly; they aren't just breathing, they look like they're dancing or working out.
It's an uncanny valley type of thing, it looks wrong, almost disgusting.
And the game's about to release, so it's far too late to fix it. I just don't understand why anyone would make the decision to make idle animations like this; is it not immediately obvious to anyone who sees it that it looks very unrealistic, uncomfortable, and in most cases bad?
@@RupertAndCheese Dude you bring up a valid point but you have an incredibly brutal delivery
@@RupertAndCheese Total overexaggerated non issue. Stop being a child
Splat, I respect your ability to seperate your subjective taste from objective quality. It shows your professionalism, and I really hope to some day have a game for you to review.
I really don't like how the corpses disappear as soon as they fall to the ground. You barely get to take in the effects of the executions before they are gone.
Persistent corpses are great details to have in games.
Thank you for playing No Place for Bravery from our cohort at Glitch Factory! :D We are glad you tried another 45 minutes to see if it was something you were interested in!
It's so great to see my favorite UA-camr playing a Brazilian game, and specially a game from my home town!
This game it's amazing and the Brazilian Game Dev Community are very proud of them!
Caramba eu não sabia disso não
Sim cara!! Orgulho da indústria nacional
I like the decisions that you made and the reasoning behind them. The graphics are also cool to look at.
Yup, was totally with him with the two drug house guys. They've already pretty much announced what they were going to do, so why giving them the advantage of the first move? Also, you have a kid with you. Also, even if the dwarf could have convinced them, how smart would it be to show them that secret entrance? And apart from that, this 'holier than thou' attitude from a guy who does not even care to tell you where he is dragging you into is kiiinda bugging me.
@@Furzkampfbomber Yeah, especially knowing that addicts like that can act VERY erratically.
What's to stop them from deciding to slit your throat the second you hand over your stuff?
You do have an awful lot of nice, valuable gear, and kids can be sold into slavery for top dollar...
Plus, they outright said they were almost caught before and want to keep you from the authorities.
It ain't hard to dump a body in a place where people are getting butchered in the streets already...
Another banger? Sir Splat, you are the saint of indie!
Beautiful game and interesting narration. I like the choice system, hinting at the fact that like you said, once you 're literally carrying your family on your back you make different choices when facing danger.
Can't blame the father I mean the dwarven stronghold is a mountain literally and has powerful walls yeah you can probably ride out the Apocalypse in one of those.
Whenever you talk about the soundtrack I would love to actually hear it...
Same
Really like the look for this game. My only complaint is disappearing corpses
I wouldn't be surprised if the combat opens up as the game goes on and that dash improves. It is an RPG after all.
Sold and Wishlisted! Thanks for the review!
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
The game does look stunning and fun to play. I have noticed though that when the camera pans around or zooms in narrative scenes, or even just to show the player the implications of pulling a switch or something, it fades to black before coming back to the player character. That's a bit unimmersive, I think it would feel much smoother if it just panned and zoomed back to its original location when done.
Its amazing how having a kid changes your views and priorities. I have 5, and every decision I make can affect how they turn out. If I do something stupid and get hurt or fired from my job, iits not just me who suffers. Its a lot of weight, but gives life more purpose then the mindless slog through life normally is.
Indeed, father college
you give it purpose regardless of having kids or not
@@Cenot4ph while I do agree with you the OP did say it gives life "more" purpose. Being g a father myself I agree with the OP.
@@Bossman-pg8kk i can understand you have an additional responsibly, but that doesn't mean it's more than those without kids.
True, while I don’t kids of my own I am the oldest of my siblings who has a stable job with a good pay. So I have a responsibility to support my siblings education, the family rent, and more recently my sibling mental well being. Regardless, whether you have kids or not as you grow older you gain more responsibilities and while it makes life tougher there is an odd comfort in having a purpose especially in these uncertain and rough times.
15:15 Clunky combat, I can adapt to. Can always use a break from roll/dash spamming games. But that platforming though, a total deal breaker.
Ever since God of War 1 where you could dodge out of almost anything at any time. While games like this and Ember Knights comes to mind, have that attack/action lock in. I'm on the clunky-hater side myself but would agree here, that platforming is doggie doo doo
I do agree with you ! Still, I played "there is no light" and in addition to the platforming being a game killer, the pixels are so thick that you don't know where to dash most of the time.
Here it looks demanding but clear on whether you are going to jump to your death or not ah ah
I can't wait to play this game I've been waiting since it's original announcement trailer back in 2020
5 days left
Thanks for the vid Splatt
Nice. I always wanted a Master-Blaster Origin story.
Trade offer: You get +1 STR,DEX. Also get -2 CON (dad gut). Can confirm
Also gain resistance to disgusting pre eaten baby food and disgusting smells.
I watched the video at x1.5, the crowd scene at 6:10 looked like a rave 😊
The platforming, dash mechanic, and forced execution that seems to break up the flow quite a bit are unfortunate because the pixel art is great. Children of Morta kinda does the gameplay/combat mechanics better but maybe the story is worth it and carries this game.
I also have some questions about why you'd be doing all this with a kid, on your back no less, and not finding a place to hunker down or safe zone to drop the kid. The devs could even have you train the kid to help you and do a kinda indie God of War thing which would be great.
The flame throwers are actually just part of the Dwarves HVAC system.
i agree so much with petting the dog. thanks for all game we discover from your chanel. 🤘
Ok, this game blew my mind.
lol, Darim looks like he's carrying a huge floppy disk 😀
tfw splatty looks at the root-meaning of the word "lollygagging"
I noticed that the enemy AI is a bit cavalier about shooting their buddies. A goblin was standing still, chilling out as his mate shot him repeatedly in the back at 19:06
Is really pretty game, walking with your kid on your back reminds me of old samurai movie when wandering father was with his kid on back with basket. Also their was one episode where in samurai Jack found a baby did go on trip back to his mother. So been a bigger bad ass when you become father. So dig the story too.
Plop! Thanks Splat.
It really reminds me Chidren of morta, both art style and combat.
Looks pretty good, I reckon.
The game is called no place for bravery. I think dashing away because of the kid is kinda the point though?
Myr is both an herb and a perfume.
It’s a lot like the frankincense actually.
Looks lit

😄
Swear it feels like I'm a fangirl being this early every day lol
Gold was for a kings buriel, frankincense is an incense to cover the smell of a rotting body, and Myrrh was an embalming agent. Again smell, and looks. The more you know🌈
That’s also what the wise men brought baby Jesus
Splat intro, AA expounds, spiff brakes. Figure it out algorithm!
The game is called No Place For Bravery, so your decision was fitting. :P (and your argument was sound)
Indeed. Plus, what's really the point in getting involved between two hostile parties like that?
We gain pretty much nothing by interfering but risk losing everything if we do.
Maybe if one side was very clearly the 'good guys' and the other were...demons or something.
Two armies clashing over some foolish ideals in the apocalypse, though? No chance.
check out Dread Delusions. reminds me of morrowind but weirder X D nice vid btw
"i brought mur...

JUDAS NO
Bro.. I saw in the title Action! RPG.
I click!
The Look really remindes me of children of Morta
Love the art, sadly the rest looks a bit sloggy.
Holy crap…a Wardruna mention, without Heilung being mentioned first! You’re truly the superhero we never asked for, Splat
like is game i am play today per hours much good is game ^^
I never know any of the games referenced in your vids lol.
What's wrong with the choppy and slow FPS? Is the game that way or maybe de-sync between the game and recording software? That chppity-chop makes my head spin when you run fast.
Brazil devs pride!
Thorn might have skipped leg day a couple times
Title reminds me of that Borderlands 2 music. lol
Reminds me (a LOT) of children of morta. Same dev?
Wow action RPG hope its not a roguelike roguelite. Got it on wishlist.
Looks kinda similar art style to children of morta.
dude i thought you didnt fight because of the kids.. then you straight murder those addicts 😂😂😂😂😂😂
To be extremely honest. I would never play 99% of the games you showcase. But I really enjoy your content. You should have millions of subs. Have you ever thought about starting your own game development company ?
99%? WHAT?
@@koffinkat666 Most of the games he showcases just aren’t my thing. But the content and his creative talent are amazing.
@@or2169 wow yes, I buy If he make a game
you think talking and playing games is the same as developing them? it's not even close
@@Cenot4ph I agree with you 110% but he knows what makes games good or bad. Get a small development team together. And take what he knows about what makes a good game in many various types of games.
No red alert2 reference?
Dorim carrying around a 3.5 inch disk or something.
3.5 INCH. 3.5mm would be pretty damn hard to handle for a removable storage media.
@@Dosbomber ahhh haha yea I mean
Inch not mm. We use mm for my work all day so had it on the Brain
Everybody skipped leg day, the game :P
The art style looks similar to Children of Morta.
👍
Oh my god, I've been waiting for this one for ages. Was actually kinda worried about the dev, since they pretty much fell off the face of the earth.
Ah, this one
I see, you obviously haven't heard of lone wolf and cub...
Why do they think characters should look like they're flexing or doing squats as they stand in one spot?
Fully agree, I absolutely despise these type of idle animations, it looks almost disgusting.
Very Children of Morta-ish, which is a good thing
hey man Incision just released on early access, you should check it out! It's great! :)
I gotta say, my heart always sinks a bit when I see a cool thumbnail and video title and the first thing I see is this art style. I feel like it's overused, kinda lazy and not really "retro" because of the way too high resolution making it a weird mix between old and new.
I've seen you review so many games that look basically the same and even though the gameplay loops looks nice this artstyle just turns me off big time. I know it'll have its fans too, so apologies to them, but that's just how I feel about it as someone growing up with an NES. I like pixels, but I feel like they already looked better in 1987 😂
They were blurry as hell in '87. 🤣 Visually, this game is giving me strong "Children of Morta" vibes without different characters for classes*
* I didn't watch the first episode of splattys play through
I have to agree, it just seems lazy to me. Back in the days pixel art was truly an art, with CRT monitors/TVs and the way pixels blended being something powerful if used in clever ways. Now it's just low res blocky graphics that feel cheap and unrefined to me.
@@fammud1192 I don't hate modern pixel art in general though, games like Shovel Knight prove it can be done properly. I just feel like there's no detail in the spritework which makes it lack character. But again, that's just me ^^;
@@bamboebahr2470 I remember (2D) graphics constantly evolving and then a few hipster retro games came out and suddenly every 2D game is "retro". It's just 10 steps back. You could make gorgeous interesting graphics with high resolution 2D or 2.5D that are stylised yet immersive. I see it as low effort becoming the norm. Usually it's not even pixel art, it's just low-res and low-detail. In the true age of pixel art they skilfully tried to hide the pixels, not pretend blocky art is a style.
@@fammud1192 cost.
Looks quite interesting. Being a 'senior gamer' who witnessed the actual 8-bit era, I must say I am sick and tired of pixel art games, even more so since so many of them look _a lot_ worse than what I have played on the C64 and even more so the Amiga 500. But this one looks quite nice and like an actual development that brings its own, modern take. I also think the story and the take on the hero narrative is actually quite interesting.
The only thing that might still keep me from actually giving this one a try is the platforming. I am not good at this kind of thing and I always was of the opinion that when I play a combat driven RPG, I play an RPG and when I play a platformer, I play a platformer. Just my personal point of view, though, but that's really something I don't like.
Haha, I can relate to the platforming issue... damn, you must have hated Last Ninja for the annoying platforming parts. Especially the stones in the river in Last Ninja 1: Isometric perspective, clunky controls and hitboxes of doom. Soundtrack was a blast though :)
bruh this looks like exactly like domina lol
children of morta vibes.
not sure i would consider "Hades" to be exceptional fighting
is this the same developers for Children of Morta? Looks the same
lone wolf and cub
this made me want end it all
Game looks great but all the 2D platforming puzzles aren't my jam.
so no demo, huh?
Yeah i agree with the criticism. Needless platforming especially.
I very much dislike how the grass looks moving in the wind... it looks like intentional screen tearing.? Why???
you can pet dogs, game rating just went up
Saw the dash platforming and yep, that's me out...
Meh...
Great review or first look as it were as always, thanks Splatty...
Parry-heavy? Oh no. I'm also a dodge monkey who avoids parry mechanics as much as possible. This one might not be for me.
Meanwhile I'm the fat bastard that just takes it to the face with a greatshield whenever possible, lol.
Someone skipped legday...
also just want to share my love for cats and dogs. Every game should have an animal to pet, that should definately be a thing. Like a rogue cat in Dead Space would be so epic to discover
Looks cool. Just not my kind of game. I might enjoy someone highly skilled playing it and wouldn't mind recommending it to friends though.
Given your character is literally carrying a child on his back, I doubt that "fluid dodge combat" is a intended game play feel. If anything, you would expect a very much dodge-less combat style from a character with such a extra load.
I assume that there will later be a phase where you are without the child, meaning your character can "cut loose" regarding dodging.
this game punish you with boredom
This game could be so good without platforming...
hmm
This looks great but that platforming just seems more annoying than challenging.
/84
I hate that every npc of the same kind is in sync, all birds, all warrior women, all old men, etc...
It sounds sort of disconnected to say that no one wants a 2D sprite based game with platform dashing. What about hyper light drifter or wizard of legend? It does really look like it particularly sucks in this game though and I don't think it meshes with the overall theme or the rest of the game's mechanics. Platform dashing with a 3D sprite on a 2D background is a fun challenge sometimes, but other times it just gives me hives lol
Yeaaaaah, the game looked interesting until you got to that terrible platforming. That doesnt look fun at all.
Unlike the combat, I reckon there's no options to fiddle with and make it easier/less annoying, either.
The execution thing would be fine if it was less common, and if you could skip it by doing a normal attack.
Maybe get a bit less gold/exp/whatever if you don't do it, but let them bleed out or die to a standard attack.
Bloody hate platforming. Pity, the game is so gorgeous. And I love ARPGs
No offense Splatt, but having watched your videos for over a year now, it really feels like a lot of your criticisms and suggestions are just... "this is how I like to play video games, here is what you should do to make this game more like that."
Some of that feedback is very valid, but... a lot of it just feels really nitpicky and focussed on style over substance. You often comment on how the animations feel, and the advice is solid on how to make a very polished, flashy game, but half the time you're saying these things on an alpha/beta/early access build and like... there are more important things than making the game look pretty ya know? Also sometimes a game just isn't for everyone, and the advice could help make it more like what you want, but then ruin it for other people who like how it works as is.
ANyway... feeling like kind of a jerk myself here criticizing you, I know it must be hard coming up with something original to say when you're doing a new game every single day, and I do appreciate your work, I've found a bunch of cool new games that I've put on my wishlist from your channel. So yeah, thanks for the entertainment.
