Oh Splatty!, agree 100%, needs some fun animations definitely only thing really missing. This game looks great. I also wish there were walking villagers, perhaps fleeing to their homes to not clutter the board when the baddies show up.
I like how the moving parts, gameplay wise, fluidly interact with one another. The terraforming that goes with claiming more islands as well as adapting what you have to your industry and how it guides how and what you defend. Neat game.
Surely needs more animations, like little sprites running around, or even a tiny cutscene that pops up like when you play the Sacrifice card. Definitely more music, maybe by season or peacetime/battle/low or high resource. I'd like to see some cards you play on the water too, like whirlpools, sea monsters, and storms to screw with invading baddies, maybe even a ocean-based Wonder.
"Defeating eldritch horrors and being happy". Sorry splattie, but that's a regular Scottie for you. The legends say you aren't a Scotts(wo)man unless you have defeated one Untold Horror in your life.
Lately Splat has been on a spree of saying "I'm not a big fan of card games" whilst endorsing card games, lol. Devs doing work trying to change his mind!
Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaards, they are taking over the world. It's not long before we get defined by which suite we are born under. Before we buy cards that give access to groceries and schools will be about getting the right education cards for your specific deck archetype. Cards have come for us, they have come for us!
What I'd really like from this game would be to be able to quickly assign or deassign workers to a building. LIke Ctrl+Left Click to fill a building and Ctrl+Right CLick to empty it. GOod game though, I finished all three ascension levels, Splatt is playing very slow and safe here, you can advance pretty quickly if you skip over foragers and panning huts and go straight for gold mines and lumber camps. I do agree the combat could be improved.
Oh, and if the developers happen to read this, you can totally cheese building wonder generates a wave of enemies, it seems like you can only have one wave of enemies at a time, because I have built multiple wonders in a row (or maybe just on subsequent turns before wiping out the previous wave) and didn't get extra troops.
Surprised how bare and dry the land is considering this is supposed to be Scotland. Although I suppose having the drastic seasons makes it easier to tell by a glance.
I tried this demo on the steam deck, because it's fun to try demos. 😅 It was semi playable with the touch screen but that's about it but I wouldn't expect anything more from such an early demo. 😅 It seems like a fun game though!
This reminds me of cult of the lamb game the taking care of villagers and feeding them and cleaning the their poop and sacrifice them to gain faith and also bury the bodies or turn them into compost for vegetables
These doomed isles? Sounds like Nova Scotia. You know how that ends, though... Farewell to Nova Scotia The sea bound coast, Let your mountains dark And dreary be. For when I am far away On the briny ocean tossed, Will you ever heave a sigh Or a wish for me... Really interesting game though. I am a fan of inventive ways of how a card game can be implemented into something more.
This would be a great game with the addition of sprite animations for you villagers as they work and fight. As it is the game is unplayable as there is no sense of progress or getting things done without being able to see a direct reaction to your actions
Why would you not alternate years with your workers? Put all of them as foragers and still only lose one tree, then switch them over to your gold production et voila, you have gained the same resources but removed only one instead of two trees.
Anyone else experiencing with the Demo that it won't start a game? just keeps scrolling to the right when you launch a game, cards and stuff is all greyed out, even demo won't let you get past the 'move using WASD or Rightclick mouse and drag'?
I like the look of the game. It looks like a lot of fun. Not a huge fan of that repetitive music though. I'd have to play this with the music off unfortunately.
For the life of me i can't figure out why Devs are obsessed with cards as a game mechanic, i despise them to death but maybe others enjoy it? why would they keep making them otherwise. If you like card based game mechanics then please help me understand the fun factor to the point where it is everywhere. I played my fair share of card based games from W40k series (works because they are based on tabletop games) which are my fav as well as slay the spire and such so I'm not a stranger to this mechanic just that i wouldn't want it everywhere i look.
If you don't enjoy it, you won't understand it. Just as I won't understand sports games. But here's a little tip for you: Just let people enjoy things. No one is forcing you to watch, play or interact with any card game. Cards usually lets you cuytomize and randomize your gameplay in a pretty easy to visualize way. You don't need math or percentages and you lessen the risk of repetitive gameplay, be it tover the course of a turn or even a the whole game.
@@lucabaumert7764 I think you partly missed the point of my comment, i said i did enjoy it even mentioned some games i played, i play hearthstone occasionally on the side as well so i get the appeal when it is well executed, not to mention that sports is a genre (not a fan as well) and not a game mechanic in the sense it is being implemented here, after all you can make a sports game based on card mechanics which is a thought that im sure is absurd to some as it doesnt make much sense to them (same boat im in with all these games). I'm not one to say either you play what i like or u don't or that no other preference is worth noting if it doesnt align to mine so not sure where u got that impression in your reply, pretty sure you are not a fan of some mine as is which is a given really. You made some good points but it still does not explain the obsession? Card based games mainly blew up after the success of games like slay the spire but then creeped into other genres (they were a niche previously), card based mechanics in a town building sim game just doesnt fly for me in this case (pretty sure i would have been all over this otherwise as i love the pixel art and sprites), ofcourse i will move on to others but it's been getting out of hand and i dont see the appeal, heck even other card games dont do that well based on steam statistics.
2 minutes 33 seconds looking at the title screen. I Love you man and I have been watching you from almost day 1, but nowadays I'm like; "Dude, get on with it just start already.."
Takes relief cards, passes them repeatedly on turns where the most enemies will die. Probably could have maxed happiness playing them at the right time... Also it annoys me that the cards on the bottom withdraw every time you start to scroll. Too much unnecessary movement. Make your UI not too obtrusive to begin with, don't constantly actively hide it.
Fear of your wee Scotsmen headbutting you? As if Scotland had its own martial arts.. it would mostly be just headbutting and then kicking people when they are on the ground. If it's not Scottish it's CRAP!
Maybe it's necessary for game mechanics, but having non-destructive industries (forager, fisherman) destroy resources feels like forced-in difficulty BS to me. A less egregious example of such difficulty put me off _Against the Storm_ --a far deeper and more interesting game. So I don't understand how these devs think such onerousness is going to fly in their little puddle-deep card game. Hard pass.
This is a game suitable for kids to play, Mr Splatt. @ 30:27 Showing people being BURNED ALIVE at the stake is absolutely NOT OK! Bad Splatt! 👎👎 😠 M 🦘🏏😎
This game looks great. I also wish there were walking villagers, perhaps fleeing to their homes to not clutter the board when the baddies show up.
Oh Splatty!, agree 100%, needs some fun animations definitely only thing really missing.
"Most of us have already lost the game, unfortunately" 😭
This is the first Tetris Defense game I've ever seen.
I like the simplicity and changing colors of the season. Also the strategy and thought necessary to progress looks like fun.

Ah yes the two classic threats to any developing coastal people: unimaginable eldritch horrors beyond comprehension and Scandinavians
Always a great time for a splat video!
Love the aesthetics, and looks to be a lot more fun than stack lands. Definitely going to check it out. Thanks Bladd and keep it up.

BUILD THE WALL!!!
Make our village great again!
this game looks awesome would love to play it when its finished
Thanks for showcasing! ^^

Oh my God, this is an EASY Wishlist! Splattercat finds some GEMS.
It seems appropriate the tavern should be right next to the church lol
"WUR DOOOOOOMED!" Private James Frazer from Dad's army... 🤣 That voice line should played when a mission fails or something.
All that land, rock cards, and mines... but you never took them.
You know what this kind of reminds me of? Rise to Ruins.
I feel like you shoulda played this like a TD and built some windy paths with towers and traps. Great vid.
Woohoo, looks fun
Heheh ... Yes ... I must definitely try to catch more of this ... entertaining for sure ... :)
I agree it need villagers walking around doing things.
Wow! I was just thinking are there any village sims in the style of Slay the Spire using deck building card games...there we go~
very logical gameplay
Yes, we need a Wicker Man!
Downloaded the demo. Love the game, was a blast. They just gotta make managing workers a tad easier though, something visual or drag and drop.
Man, I wanted to see the fire spread 🥲
Surprised how bare and dry the land is considering this is supposed to be Scotland.
Although I suppose having the drastic seasons makes it easier to tell by a glance.
And where are the bagpipes?
Bagpipes are a strange instrument. A single bag pipe can get annoying after a while. Multiple bagpipes together though can sound amazing.
This intro description is nuts. Can't wait to see gameplay.
Yeah man I really needs to cut down on explaining in the intro
Scottish people trying to survive the apocalypse: you mean a heatwave?
Splat's Condensed Review: 40:20 almost!

Game needs a tab where u can manage your villager or at least a button that shows you where they are working.
Man, I really want a modern day Populus... with Eldritch dangers. Is there any recent game like that?
These doomed isles? Sounds like Nova Scotia. You know how that ends, though...

Damn Splat you been not using the followers card every time it came up
It seems sterile and dead without having the people doing their chores
I am mostly Scottish and I love me some bag pipes. I don't have the bravery for a kilt though.
Hey Splat!
Just commenting for the algorithm gods.
Also faith should be replaced with Haggis.... The almighty Haggis!
it"ll fit i can get it in there

I dont like card games either but this looks fun
Hey splat I love your vids and was wondering why you haven’t done a new series in a while.
No bag pipes
👍

Clearly, I would go as far and say: Bagpipes > Cowbells
I like the look of the game. It looks like a lot of fun.
Not a huge fan of that repetitive music though. I'd have to play this with the music off unfortunately.
I watch all these demos of games and I forget what they’re called by the time they’re released. So many missed opportunities
Somebody's a fan of Sea Beast
Is this made by the team that made forager?
This game really looks like Simmilands...
Can I tank in this though?
I wonder if Splattercat has any kids 15:55 .... oh nevermind
Hey splattercat, I'm too fat!!!
lol , good to know
Why isn't the grannary making grannies?
Comment to appease the algorithm.
25:20 "I'm not a big fan of card games" for the people who seem to think splatt likes card games.
"Populous" update?
Huh I wonder why it looks so much like Forager?
Coming summer 2023.
Eh, ok.
If they're going for a Scottish atmosphere they desperately need to include Bagpipes,Haggis, whisky and Buckfast in the game...
How about you set a 30 sec timer for introl like old times instead of the 180 sec intro
reminds me of Baldies lol.
27:00 I lost the game

Has “endless” in the video title, first sentence in the game “so get the victory points and win the game”... thats not endless 🙃
