I don't shoot as often as I'd like, so every two to three weeks, I'll lube it up on the parts that slide and take a beating. practicing this routine, I never have malfunctions in any of the three 1911s I carry.
The first thing I buy when I buy a 1911 is Wilson Combat Magazines (I have owned Colts, Rugers, Kimbers, and Tisas 1911s). I have yet to clean or lubricate my 3 year old 4.25" Tisas with over 3,000 rounds through it with zero malfunctions that were not magazine related (stock magazines at the range). Quality ammunition also plays a big part in how often you need to clean/lubricate it. I am not suggesting anyone follow my lack of maintenance, it has been done to prove a point to my Glock fanboi friends to see how long it goes before I must clean my 1911 due to debris related malfunctions.
I got a tisas 1911 duty for my first hand gun, have probably 500 rounds through it now and it has ran phenomenally. Anyone on edge of getting one, I highly recommend it. Great pistol with great qualities and even greater price!

I normally do an “initial impressions” after 50-100 rounds, then 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 round reviews. I agree with this guy-1000 rounds is sort of the minimum to give an informed opinion. The initial impressions is more to have a base line and see if some things can be adapted to; 500 is just to look at if the trigger has worked in and ensure there are no malfunctions.

@@logangodofcandy I agree that when it comes to ARs and 1911s, like in this video, you do not need thousands of rounds to compare how it shoots compared to other similar guns. @jamesshoots The recent cylcing issues are not you "not cleaning the gun enough". The catching on the disco is most likely at your round count 1 of 2 things. Either your mainspring is too strong or you have a weak recoil spring that is bottoming out and sending the recoil energy into the frame so it doesn't cycle fast enough to overcome the disco. For Item 1: buy a 17lbs and 19lbs mainspring. Start with the 19lbs, cycle the slide a dozen times and then see if it can easily overcome the disco from being held back on it's own. If so then cycle it while holding the trigger as violently as you can, to make sure the disco still engages the sear. If so feel a "step" that is fine, but if it's enough to hold up the slide, go down to a 17lbs spring. Item 2: grab a set of recoil springs that range from 16-22lbs of force. Install the highest first. Test fire from there, run it. If you get around 100rds of ammo through it without failure you are GTG.
Hope this helps. 99% of 1911 issues are either mag or spring related.
Hey man the algorithm brought me here but i really enjoy your video style. Really feels like a buddy talking about their new gun and the pros and cons and little things that you’ve run into. Like more casual but more informative than a standard review that talks about specs and not much else. Keep it up!
You should buy a 17lbs recoil spring from Wilson Combat. I put one of those in all of my 1911s. That should force the slide forward into battery after every shot. Just replace the recoil spring every 2,000 rounds. You can run a 1911 in 45 EXTREMELY dirty. All that matters is that it has plenty of oil on the slide and frame rails.
I have read that these pistols must be well oiled, cleaning is taught to us in military service and is a must to always have an excellent performance of the weapon and not risk having jams during use of the weapon, this cleaning will extend the operational life of the weapon., regarding the hold open problem in almost all Tisas it is recommended to change the spring of the plunger tube spring. it can create the problem you talked about in the video, and another thing, if you can, also change the magazines, the mc g ones are not the best even when new,the Chinese Norinco ones are better in comparison.I recently also purchased a Tisas 45 Delux, I noticed that compared to Colt and other 1911s it has zero play between the frame and the slide, which is why it requires more cleaning to prevent the parts in friction with each other from wearing out sooner and creating jams. I consider it very precise at least in the first 300 shots, the trigger is a little hard but it can be improved, both by time with use and by a possible polishing, the only flaw is the pain of looking for something, the play of the trigger in the seat on the guides in vertical, otherwise it's ok
I have mad respect for you my guy you put a real amount of rounds and you are honest and practical when you talk about not having much experience with .45 and saying about how the gun is its self accurate cuz I seen few other GunTubers blame a gun for there recoil management and such also this was a well made review 10/10 I like how you set up your topics
I love your non biased review. I have a few Tisas 1911s. A few things that I’ve learned with owning them. One they love to be lubed up a lot. Two, Wilson combat and Chip McCormick mags work. And then lastly change out the springs with the Wilson Combat springs. The springs are cheap insurance, I was starting to run into reliability issues after a while. Swapped out the springs and haven’t had an issue since. Also you might want to try swapping the disconnecter with Wilson combat bulletproof.
Great review. Your content format is strong so keep it up 👌 Im in a similar place with round count and have had a very good experience. (Non railed B45 Duty)
Great content. This is the first video I've seen by you and it's well thought out, organized and contains very relevant information. I'll definitely be watching more of your content. I have a B45R Carry version that I bought in 2021, before they stopped using MIM parts. I haven't had any gun related issues and that includes shooting JHP ammo. I have 2 Springfield 1911's (Government Blk & Stainless Loaded & EMP 4" Lightweight champion) and my Tisas performs on par with those pistols. It would seem to me that since you didn't have any issues between 50 - 1000 rounds; the issues you had after that would be attributed to lubrication and not cleaning. Larry Vickers and Wison Combat have some great videos on proper 1911 lubrication. You've gained a new fan today. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks so much for the kind words! That’s a neat collection of 1911s you have there. A little jealous tbh 👀 and yeah agreed, I’m pretty confident it’s my lack of cleaning. I did a deep clean and am going to buy some more 45ACP and take it back to the range! Can’t wait to shoot it more. Will keep you updated!
I'm a 9mm guy (Navy M9 carrier for years), but I find .45 ACP out of a 5' 1911 recoils very satisfyingly. That having been said, you explained very intelligently your growing pains with the platform and caliber. Good review. Thank you.
Concerning reloads: yes, you can slingshot the slide, and if you choose to go that route, more power to you. If you wish to utilize the slide release, try hitting it with the thumb of your support hand as you’re building your grip following your reload.
Very good Review. I love the 1911 and have several. I would recommend a 9mm in 1911, it is a cheat code for the 1911. I have been seeing some mixed reviews on the double stack version. I just recently got a Staccato and I am enjoying it. Good Luck.
Good review. I have the same pistol that I refinished to look like the marine M45a1. I only have around 200 rounds through mine, but its been a good gun so far. That wear looks perfectly normal for a 1911. Every one I've owned look about the same with that round count.
An easier way to drop the slide on 1911s is when the left hand is getting a grip rub your left thumb down. It will hit the slide stop as you gather your grip
IF you normally shoot a glock...a 1911 is very different. Not just the trigger, but the grip is thinner and I just prefer it more...I shot a double stack one for my CC license. I shot that and a clone of the browning high power and shoot both very well. Also, with my limited understanding also of 1911s, the chamber and barrel being very polished and clean helps with it loading smoothly. As well as how much or Not of a ramp there is on the barrel. Also your extractor can be an issue.
I wish that Tisas checkered the frame of the Duty™️ series guns. They do the Pinnacle series, but those are all stainless and you can’t get a light rail.
Ah yes, that’s something I should have mentioned. The G10 grips I have make up for it, but I agree that checkering would have been very nice. I’ve seen pics of some people doing checkering themselves - maybe a skill to learn.
You can try a different slide stop, maybe something from wilson like an extended one that is a little easier to reach. Usually, it's a drop in part with no issues but you never know with 1911's. Sometimes it's not.
5:15 On the reload, a third option would be to use your left hand thumb. Maintain your shooting grip with your right hand, and use your support hand for mag insertion followed by dropping the slide. Similar to reloading your AR.
Good video/presentation. You need to clean a 1911 more than most modern pistols. Especially when they are new and "tight". After they are broken in and the tolerances have opened up a bit, they will run dirty with fewer, if any, issues. I have the Tisas 1911 Carry and I'm still in the first 500 rounds, but it is doing very well.
Thank you! Yeah definitely something I’ve learned. Been a little more generous with the upkeep in range sessions since this vid. Glad to hear the Carry is doing well. I was looking at that too!
Im gonna get a suppressor this year to live on my rifle looking at the baja 556. Next year im gonna get the raider if its still available.❤ Those new tisas double stacks are cool, I think it would be rad to see double stack 2011 style 45s being more popular. I shoot alot of 9 but I like many other calibers especially anything 40 or above is really fun to shoot. Especially small guns in big calibers. They make me happy🎉 my favorite gun of all time is the original jericho or baby eagle in 40sw❤ absolute monster of a weapon. I can only imagine the full size desert eagle 😮
Oh man, I totally agree on the larger calibers. I still carry my Glock 17.5 9mm but I get such a kick out of shooting my 1911 because it’s in 45. I watched some vids on the FNX45 and Sig P227. Sounds like they don’t make the P227 any more but I’m sure I can find it somewhere on Gunbroker. I know they have the single stack P220 which looks awesome, but I think a double stack 45 would be so amazing to have!
I've this gun. It is NICE. I've a bit over 700 rounds through it. I love the gun so much that I also recently bought a Tisas Carry DS. I'm hoping that gun will be as pleasing to shoot as my Duty.
@@jamesshoots The DS hasn't arrived yet. It arrives at my FFL tomorrow. I'll have it in hand either tomorrow or Friday, depending on when the FFL calls me to tell me to come get it. I'll let you know how it is once I get it. Tisas says it will fit most hosters made for Staccatos and I've several Tenicor kydex holsters that should fit the DS.
You should get the Wilson combat shock buffer for the guide rod for me it takes out a bit of the sharpness from the recoil and it will help with the longevity of the gun to
Those wear spots seem a little strong. The 1911 likes oil and cleaning. I would maybe go a little heavier on lube at the wear spots. I do not think using a Dremel on the gun a weapon that new to correct perceived fit issues is the way to go and could cause long term issues and void warranty. The 1911 platform comes factory tight Just like Smith and Wesson they come tight fitting on release levers and triggers work in naturally.
The old manual of arms for the slide stop was for you off hand to hit the slide release unless you like me and have bear paws. So slightly different from how easy it is on striker guns.
@@jamesshoots I saw the updated video after I posted my comment so I saw you using your off hand now. Awesome. I also shoot ambi a lot just because so left handed you can flick it with index finger. I've seen some leftie sling shot and I always thought why you should have your finger basically right there
Your trigger finger may cause those slide/battery issue when reloading you may be pressing the slide stop disconnecting the firearm slightly but not fully also damaging the slide stop
Some of your malfunctioning is your slide stop rubbing rounds so gently file it down with slide and barrel off. Do that and those stoppages go away. Secondly, I put a Wilson Combat stainless slide stop in, Extra power firing pin spring and install a Wilson combat plunger spring and that’s it.
Thank you! These are the 1911 VZ Operator II grips in Hyena Brown. I got the ones with the magwell cutout, since this Wilson Combat magwell hooks onto the grip screws
@@Isildur58 Oh man if you get the DS you def gotta lemme know what you think. I'm super curious about it lol. Hmm yeah that's a tough one... is the Night Stalker only in full size? Then I'd go compact. Or... get both ;)
May I ask what Safariland model holster that is? I’ve got the same setup as you (B45R w/Surefire X300U-A) and am looking for a solid ALS holster. The SLS hood on yours isn’t necessarily a requirement for me but isn’t a dealbreaker either
Great review. Your first review is the reason I want one of these, but it's hard to find the B45R, specifically, in stock. Where did you get yours from? My brother has a Remington 1911 that I shot a while back and I didn't really notice the recoil being as much as you mention. Just felt slightly more than a 9. Then again, I haven't shot it in a long time.
Your local gun store should be able to order them, assuming the model you want isnt in the current recall. If it is, wait for the recall to be sorted, or pick another model.
Fortunately the B45R isn’t included in the safety recall! I got mine in Gunbroker . It was actually a decent price lol. As for recoil - that might just be a “me” thing.
Your issue is probably more to do with your lube schedule rather than cleaning. A dab of lithium grease on the 2 rails and the disconnector should fix 95% of the issues you had.
After the reload, use your left thumb to depress the slide stop as you re-establish your shooting grip. No need to shift your grip and faster than a hand over method. And before somebody claims "fine motor skills", it's not. It seems your stoppages happened towards the end of the 1100 rounds. If you didn't add any lube during the test I would hazard a guess that is the issue. 1911s need lubrication.
Great tip! I’m definitely trying this next time. And yeah I bet it’s the lack of lubrication. I did a deep clean and put more CLP on it - gonna head to the range next to I restock on 45ACP and shoot it again!
It gets a bad rap from 4 things. Taurus, kimber, sig, and neglect. More seriously, magazines, sometimes extractors, arent worth much from most factories. The tisas guns have good extractors, and mediocre mags. But if you plan to shoot 1911 in a serious way, you should have wilson or chip mags. Best bar none.
@@morgan3688yeah I agree. All I run is Wilson’s. But I do have a kimber 😅after finding all it’s issue it’s running great but I’m never making that mistake again. 😂
TBH I don’t have a very practical reason. The Carry is a little shorter but not by a ton, and I just wanted a full size for my first 1911 that I would really put a lot of miles on. But, for my next Tisas, I’d definitely get the Carry!
I really enjoyed this review man, think imma get one. Is that magwell a mainspring type of the one wit the hooks that goes over the grips screws? Cool lookin grips on there btw
did the front sight come red or if not what did u use to make it red. I'd like to get new sites for mine but heard that tisas 1911 have a problems fitting normal 1911 sights without some grinding at least
Hey! I used a red sharpie marker. I don’t recommend it lol. It’s not reflective/doesn’t provide nearly enough contrast. I heard the same thing. I think someone in the comments mentioned using nail polish, though!
@@jamesshoots I don’t have a lot of experience with AK’s either but was given a PSA 103 for x-mas. Nice rifle, not many rounds through it but so far so good. With 7.62 being 50 cents a round it may never see a high round count.
I wish they made this in 10mm. There are very few railed 1911s in 10mm on the market, and fewer still that aren't prohibitively expensive. The Tisas D10 doesn't have a rail. The Night Stalker does, but has retarded cuts in the slide that serve no function other than to let debris into the gun and look goofy. The RIAs would be a great option if they had a standard bushing. Insteas they have a bushingless bull barrel that requires a Mickey Mouse paperclip contraption to disassemble. No thank you. The rest of the options quickly approach $2000. I've had close encounters with bears at night. I want a light on my camp/woods gun. I don't understand why nobody can put a functional railed 1911 out for under $1500 without stupid silly shit like tools for disassembly or cuts in the slide.
The sad truth is most 1911 owners that buy a tisas shoot 100 rounds a year max. The 1911 guys that shoot thousands of rounds own Wilson's or dan wessons
I've seven 1911s (and the eighth one is currently being shipped). Of the seven, all but one are over 100 rounds. I've seven that are over 700 rounds. I've one that is over 1000 rounds. I own no Wilsons or Dan Wessons. I'm very positive that I'm not an outlier or anomaly.
@@unixfool You fall squarely into the category he's describing lol. I shoot Nighthawks, Wilson, Ed Browns and full house custom guns. Currently im shooting 2000 rounds a month of pistol ammo. I have tried the cheaper 1911s non have lived past 10K without gunsmith level intervention.
@@deank5649why would you want to put more than $5k in ammo through a $500 gun? Buy six for the price of a WC instead. Also, 1911s require cleaning and lubrication every ~200rnds OR after about a week of carry. And recoil springs every 1k-1.5k rounds. More expensive guns have more expensive and more precise internals that can sustain more neglect. Personally I dont think thay justifies the added cost, but they certainly are pretty and better made.
Hey thanks brotha, I appreciate it! Yeah there’s always something to learn, and 45ACP and the 1911 make it super fun haha
@@jamesshoots I’m gonna have to try and get me a Tisas I keep hearing and seeing too much nice stuff to not try there 1911s or even the Beretta Clones
Holyyyyy I actually didn’t know that had Beretta clones until you said this 👀 👀
I just picked one up in like new shape used for 320 after taxes, this video makes me happy knowing I got quite the bargain!
Oh man I’m jealous lol
I love your non biased review. I have a few Tisas 1911s. A few things that I’ve learned with owning them. One they love to be lubed up a lot. Two, Wilson combat and Chip McCormick mags work. And then lastly change out the springs with the Wilson Combat springs. The springs are cheap insurance, I was starting to run into reliability issues after a while. Swapped out the springs and haven’t had an issue since. Also you might want to try swapping the disconnecter with Wilson combat bulletproof.
You have improved so much with that platform man. Good job seriously. Keep it up, you are absolutely on the right path.
Thank you so much!!
Showing the parts is game-changing😊
Dude your channel grew like crazy, so proud of you!
Thanks bro!! I gotta keep going!!
Great review. Your content format is strong so keep it up 👌
Im in a similar place with round count and have had a very good experience. (Non railed B45 Duty)
Thanks so much!!
Thank you.
1000 rounds! Shoot that’s probably worth more than the gun itself. Thank you for testing out!
Hahaha now that you mention it, that’s very close to the truth 😂
Concerning reloads: yes, you can slingshot the slide, and if you choose to go that route, more power to you. If you wish to utilize the slide release, try hitting it with the thumb of your support hand as you’re building your grip following your reload.
Very good Review. I love the 1911 and have several. I would recommend a 9mm in 1911, it is a cheat code for the 1911. I have been seeing some mixed reviews on the double stack version. I just recently got a Staccato and I am enjoying it. Good Luck.
Nice review, like your quality and honesty! 👍
1911s are a interesting dive anytime in your firearms journey lol
Thank you!!
Good review. I have the same pistol that I refinished to look like the marine M45a1. I only have around 200 rounds through mine, but its been a good gun so far.
That wear looks perfectly normal for a 1911. Every one I've owned look about the same with that round count.
They make a clone , it's called the raider.
An easier way to drop the slide on 1911s is when the left hand is getting a grip rub your left thumb down. It will hit the slide stop as you gather your grip
Nice, I’m gonna try this next time! I’m so used to using my right hand for my Glock, but I’m going to give this a shot.
Best video so far.
Thanks for sharing this information. Tisas seems to be a good pistol.
Nice, I’m definitely gonna try this next time. For some reason, making the analogy to the AR really hit home lol
Very nice review. Glad I found your channel!
Thank you!!
Love the content !
I was looking at that too!
love your review format man. somehow reminds me of like a travel review haha.
or a tech review
Haha thanks man!!
Cool, good info 👍
I've this gun. It is NICE. I've a bit over 700 rounds through it. I love the gun so much that I also recently bought a Tisas Carry DS. I'm hoping that gun will be as pleasing to shoot as my Duty.
How do you like the DS? I’m super interested in it. Any problems finding compatible holsters?
Haha makes sense. was shifting my grip a bunch when I used my strong hand. Gonna stick to using my off hand! 🔫
@@jamesshoots I saw the updated video after I posted my comment so I saw you using your off hand now. Awesome. I also shoot ambi a lot just because so left handed you can flick it with index finger. I've seen some leftie sling shot and I always thought why you should have your finger basically right there
Good Lord I'm boutta BUY
Great video!
Your trigger finger may cause those slide/battery issue when reloading you may be pressing the slide stop disconnecting the firearm slightly but not fully also damaging the slide stop
I want the Raider, but they have an active recall right now. I guess I’ll have to wait a little while longer
Same
Some of your malfunctioning is your slide stop rubbing rounds so gently file it down with slide and barrel off. Do that and those stoppages go away. Secondly, I put a Wilson Combat stainless slide stop in, Extra power firing pin spring and install a Wilson combat plunger spring and that’s it.
Break in for it is good run em good and wet slap worh the mags 2 or 3 and try that. It is worth it but it is nice too and great quality.
Yo you remind me of Teddy Baldessare, you’re the teddy of the gun world 😂
Your editing and film quality is excellent. What camera are you using?
Also, I have the MAC JSOC 1911 and your experience is right in-line with mine.
Thank you! Camera body is a Canon 77D and lens is a Sigma F1.8 18-35mm. ND filter too cause it’s usually super bright out.
How much does that silly flashlight weigh? Have you shot it stock with no attachments ?
Release the slide lock with your off hand instead of shifting your grip with your shooting hand. Much easier
Great video! I have a Tisas Night Stalker 1911 and I love it. What grips did you use on this build?
Thank you! These are the 1911 VZ Operator II grips in Hyena Brown. I got the ones with the magwell cutout, since this Wilson Combat magwell hooks onto the grip screws
@@jamesshoots dude those look sick. I’m thinking about getting the new DS 1911 from them. Still tryna decide if I want full size or compact haha
@@Isildur58 Oh man if you get the DS you def gotta lemme know what you think. I'm super curious about it lol. Hmm yeah that's a tough one... is the Night Stalker only in full size? Then I'd go compact. Or... get both ;)
@@jamesshoots I have the Night Stalker 1911 in 45. Pretty sure it's only full size. I do like the night stalker, but I want something different.
May I ask what Safariland model holster that is? I’ve got the same setup as you (B45R w/Surefire X300U-A) and am looking for a solid ALS holster. The SLS hood on yours isn’t necessarily a requirement for me but isn’t a dealbreaker either
Hey! Yes, it’s the 6285.
@@jamesshoots thanks so much!!
On the 1911 you will need to use your offhand thumb to release the slide lock, not your shooting hand.
Great review but that pocket was very distracting.
The 1911 i know gets a bad rep but you have to take into consideration that everyone makes a 1911. Tisas Taurus RIA etc.
The only ones who give the 1911 a bad rep are the uneducated
It gets a bad rap from 4 things. Taurus, kimber, sig, and neglect.
More seriously, magazines, sometimes extractors, arent worth much from most factories. The tisas guns have good extractors, and mediocre mags. But if you plan to shoot 1911 in a serious way, you should have wilson or chip mags. Best bar none.
@@morgan3688yeah I agree. All I run is Wilson’s. But I do have a kimber 😅after finding all it’s issue it’s running great but I’m never making that mistake again. 😂
Tsauce be noice
You might need to break down the magazine and clean them. Everything with 1911 needs more maintenance.
For sure, good idea, ima do this next time as well!
How well is it for concealment ?
What makes you want the 5 inch over the carry?
TBH I don’t have a very practical reason. The Carry is a little shorter but not by a ton, and I just wanted a full size for my first 1911 that I would really put a lot of miles on. But, for my next Tisas, I’d definitely get the Carry!
I really enjoyed this review man, think imma get one. Is that magwell a mainspring type of the one wit the hooks that goes over the grips screws? Cool lookin grips on there btw
Thanks bro! It’s the Wilson Combat blued one that hooks over the grip screws
did the front sight come red or if not what did u use to make it red.
@@jamesshoots thanks for waring yeah I prolly won't do it that way then great video btw keep it up bro
I’m cheap I buy foreign 1911’s and domestic AK’s.😉
Duude what do you suggest for AKs? I’ve only heard of PSA, WASR, and Arsenal but I have no experience with them.
@@jamesshoots
I don’t have a lot of experience with AK’s either but was given a PSA 103 for x-mas.
Nice rifle, not many rounds through it but so far so good.
With 7.62 being 50 cents a round it may never see a high round count.
Ah yeah, that makes sense. I miss the days of lower prices ammo. I’ll check out that rifle. Thanks man 💪💪
WHAT HOLSTER ARE YOU USING???? I have the Raider in this exact setup, looking for a holster that fits the X300
HELLO! Safariland 6285!
What brand and color are the grip panels thanks.
Hey! VZ Operator II G10 grips in Hyena Brown!
@@jamesshoots 👍
what grips are those?
G10 VZ Operator IIs! These are in Hyena Brown. I got the ones with the mag well cutout.
Does it eat defensive ammo?
I don't understand why nobody can put a functional railed 1911 out for under $1500 without stupid silly shit like tools for disassembly or cuts in the slide.
why tf your face look like that when you shoot
Safety recall on these fyi.
Fortunately not for the B45R! But yes, there are several Tisas pistols that are recalled. Fingers crossed they don’t find anything with this model!
I would think the opposite.
Guns are tools
@@tommysiharath6988 That's a thing people are pushing these days. People like to say you buy a cheaper gun so you can afford more ammo, but that almost never rings true, they're buying the cheap gun, but they're not shooting it. At all. You're much more likely to find someone spending good money on their gun, also willing to spend good money to feed it.
