agree that there are some non violent crimes that do not warrant incarnation, however for that to work in our current system many states would need to alter their definition of violent crime because their are countless crimes that most people would agree are very serious and violent but are not considered violent. This was a dangerous flaw with Proposition 57, which California voters approved in 2016 by a wide margin. Proponents reassured voters that that the measure would apply only to non-violent offenders, and that only those inmates who posed no threat to public safety would be eligible for release. The public unknowingly supported a bill that would allow those convicted of 20 clearly violent crimes that aren’t classified as violent, including rape of an unconscious person, trafficking a child for prostitution, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence to be released under prop 57. California is dealing with the aftermath of passing a bill without a clear and concise understanding . So, I absolutely agree but only for truly non violent offenses not non violent under the law
Seriously! Like yeah not graduating sucks but only you and your circle would have known now the nation/world knows your business 😂 was it worth it? Lol
I think she should do community service with a group that help search for missing people so she can see that there are actual people that are missing and see what the families go through
@DBSK4TY of course I think she should go to jail then when she gets out or even while she's in there she should have to work with an organization a year for each day she was "missing"
Disappearing after sending a text saying the police pulled her over is what made the cops jump in to find her right away. Any implication that a cop could have hurt her probably made them nervous.
I worked with someone that did fake her own death. She was in an abusive relationship and found out she was pregnant. She was pretty much trapped and never left alone. He would beat her so bad that one day she finally had a change to escape. Her sister helped her and then faked that she died. This was back in the 80s. She moved to Florida and later her sister joined her. She changed her name and never looked back.
Thats a very good reason. I think faking your death can be absolutely justifiable in many scenarios such as this, but faking your own kidnapping? Not so much.
She was protecting herself and her baby. I hope they’ve thrived! That’s a great reason to leave. I assume the 80’s were easier to disappear in. Anyway, wishing her the best 40 years later.💜
@@bj.reo87 it doesn’t matter how rich or poor someone is, you can always get away from them. No amount of money in the world could force a person to stay with another person. How would that even work? Being held against your will though is another story.
I didn’t graduate when I was supposed to and had to stay an extra year. As embarrassing and depression-inducing as that felt in the moment, I would NEVER have imagined to fake my own kidnapping to distract from it. Insane behavior.
This might not be the case when your a victum of abuse, and this might be that case. I think this might of escalated because of the parents. But we wont know until more details. Just my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
@@SweaterBaby_ I feel terrible for her situation and I’m not disregarding it at all. I escaped quite a not happy or supportive household and I’m fortunate for it. I agree with you the abuse definitely played a big role but I still don’t think it’s an excuse to do any of the things she did
I wish it was normalized for not graduating “on time.” I also didn’t graduate on time. I just told ppl it was so I could get finish courses for a second minor 🤫🤫
Colleges in the late 90s early 2,000s had already been forcing students to lengthen the amount of time it took them to get a degree. 4.5 years instead of 4 years. I had to take an extra semester just to meet the criteria needed for mine. I graduated in December instead of the spring. Don’t worry or be embarrassed about it. The fact is you did get your degree and that’s a huge accomplishment. ❤ I don’t know you, but I’m proud of you! 😀
This happened in my area. I think the reason the police reacted as quickly as they did was because she said she was being pulled over. The police didn't want the public being scared of a police imposter out there.
For sure!!! Anyone with a sudden disappearance with a loved one should use this tactic. Which makes me really sad really. But I for damn sure will use any tactic I can to find a lost loved one.
It's pretty sick when you consider that here in Britain, a lady called Sarah Everard actually was killed by a police officer who used his position to wrongfully detain her. She definitely needs some severe punishment.
Sarah's case convinced me to buy a pepper spray. It's so sad that in Britain they are illegal, I signed the petition they made for her to legalize it but I don't think it ever happened.
she could probably get away with saying that she didn't want to go to graduation because of the kidnapping and therefore she could skip them seeing that she was not on stage or have her name called.
honestly she’s the only true crime youtuber i’ll watch for that reason. the rest make no efforts to actually help the victims, appropriate cases for their own gain + talk abt it like it’s high school gossip…
Seriously!! It doesn't get more counter productive than this. She should have just come forward about her school situation. Sure it would have been rough to admit that, but now she just looks WAY worse! And she's risking jail time and fines as well. She sounds like a compulsive liar. Lied about being in college for a year, and lied about being abducted.
Yesssss! Thats exactly what i came on to say- thank you. She needs to be forced to work with victims and their families to really get the gist of what she took advantage of.
Absolutely Not!!! If this is the Result then so many others are gonna think they can get away this this same behaviour & oh I'm gonna be in the comfort of my own home as a punishment. Uhm No we need to make it as uncomfortable as possible don't doesn't happen. ✌🏼
I’m from this area and this is upsetting. A girl from our city, Alivia Kail, has been missing for years (believed to be sold into sex trafficking). Chloe’s false allegations were a slap in the face to Alivia Kails mom and anyone in SW Pennsylvania who helped look for Chloe
I had a flash when my brother was in the Army and one of the soldiers in his platoon was killed. Our mother thought it was my brother who was killed and we could not reach him. So for nearly four hours, I had to console her and tell her that if it was brother, we’d be notified. Finally, my brother was able to call us and let us know he was okay. But I could never think to inflict that much pain and mental distress on my parents.
Our autistic son eloped into the nearby woods a few years ago unnoticed, and the local Germans and the police pulled out all the stops to find him after we searched for 45 minutes to no avail. Every nearby person went out on horseback, ATV, and foot, and the police had helicopters out searching. I am forever grateful to all of them. Within an hour someone found him and brought him home. The experience was surreal, and my husband and I had wildly different reactions. He panicked from the beginning, and my brain went straight into denial mode, telling me he'd be totally fine and found right away because nothing could possibly happen to him, even though logically, I knew better. It was surreal because I felt like I *should* be panicking but *couldn't*, which made me feel like the world's shittiest parent. As soon as he was back and it was over, that protective fog lifted and then I was hit with the big, scary feels. My heart goes out to these parents and those of the genuinely missing, because those couple of hours will stick with me forever.
As a person who's sister has been missing for three years: This is absolutely awful. My sister didn't get nearly as much of a search, nor did she get the publicity. It seems like the girl who faked her own kidnapping is still getting more than most women who go missing.
I live in PA and can’t believe I haven’t heard of this case. It makes me so angry, especially since a local 19 year old named Kadin Black has been missing since Dec 17, 2022. His mother is desperate for answers. His case isn’t getting much attention all, let alone resources from the PA authorities.
I haven't either but I had heard about someone who was pulled over by someone who was impersonating a police officer in the town I grew up in. The guy pulled a gun on her and she quickly got away. I haven't heard about Kadin either.
@@nickienicole8705 where in PA did this happen? I know someone who was also impersonating a police officer, but this was in like 2001 or 2002. I'm not sure if he pulled a gun though.
And technically people ARE allowed to just disappear. Like, I see no problem with someone going off the grid if say, they're in an abusive relationship or something. Or just want to start a new life. You're allowed to do that as an adult, but don't FAKE a crime & use resources that could've been allocated elsewhere, for people who are REALLY in danger. That's what bothers me. Like if you wanna leave, then do it, but don't pretend to be a victim of something you're not!😤
or if you have a life insurance policy and have a way of receiving the funds post-fake death haha /sarcasm however, faking a kidnapping is honestly worse than faking death imo. because not only does it take away resources--- it really does waste people's emotional resources as Kendall said, so that the affected public will not care about the next missing person as much, because what if it's another fake? The public's help is so often instrumental to locating missing people, don't wanna **** that up. man some of these women really take advantage of missing white girl syndrome. it's sickening.
There are also cases where people let law enforcement know that they are going to do this before leaving, that way law enforcement is informed if/when the abuser reports them missing and will not unnecessarily allocate resources to the missing persons report
Absolutely no excuse to do something like this without the danger of loss of life or safety. I feel for her loved ones who had such a scare and are now dealing with the fallout associated with such a hoax. Thanks again Kendall for quality coverage of this case and all of your others!
I feel like faking your own death/disappearance is justifiable if you are being abused or your life is threatened. However, I would hope that your closest loved ones who are safe would be notified and aware. To put them through that type of torment is just awful!
Sometimes they can be in danger too if the abuser start to go to them to have answer on "where you are" :( Also, sometimes the family doesn't listen or believe the victime.
I also started flunking college and was put on probation. I remember being so terrified and embarrassed to admit it to my family and friends, but never did faking my own kidnapping cross my mind.
Same here, I didn't tell them for a while because I was embarrassed and felt bad but I eventually came clean and even managed to finish with their support and help!
I thought this was going to be a case about Eleanor Williams from the UK. She lied about being taken in by a Asian grooming gang and was found to be lying about the whole thing. She was found guilty of perverting the course of justice in January of this year. Would love to see Kendall cover this case. Excellent content as always Kendall. I also love the new background! 😊
@@catherine2485 yeah that's the only case I know of where a mom says a child was kidnapped and they still found the kid alive. Other cases like that don't end that well.
@@KendallRae Oew that sounds interesting never heard of that case thank you Kendall for what you do, last week's case really touched me how you collaborated with the family and how many people signed petition
@@KendallRae cant wait for this one!! This case is wild to me! I saw Christina Randall do a video on it yesterday but haven’t seen anyone else. Im stoked for this video!
You should do an episode on Carlee Russell from Birmingham AL. She also faked her own kidnapping and it made national news. She called the police saying there was a toddler walking on the interstate. She was allegedly kidnapped when she got out to check on the toddler. She showed up at her house a few days later. Also, a mother that lost her daughter to a kidnapping a few years ago put her time and effort in helping to find Carlee and it was a slap in the face to her to know it was fake.
She should have to do a type of community service that flows around those whose loved ones were truly missing and even killed. She needs to work for them so that she truly understands what these families go through because their family member won't ever be coming home. This way, they can get extra aid, and she can finally understand it's not all about her.
This is insane! This was my childhood friend from kindergarten to 6th grade until I moved out of state. I never in a million years would have seen this coming she was the sweetest person and an incredible artist. People really do change...
On the okay/not okay topic to fake a kidnapping. 4 years ago I was in a violent relationship, he threatened my kids lives if I were to seek help or tell anyone what was happening (even though it was obvious), instead I went missing, I kind of ran away, used a burner phone to contact family and let them know I was okay, and I also couldn’t be traced. While I know my family and friends were in a panic, I solely believed, and still do believe that my children’s live were at risk, if he thought I was unalive, my babies would be safe from him. (They were with family, I’m also safe as are my kids and I ultimately went to police and he got 6 years of prison with three tries of house arrest/home detention) so while I know if would’ve been hard for everyone else, I would do it all again if it meant my babies were safe.
I'm glad you received a small amount of justice! We all know that getting justice in a DV situation is rare. I moved across the country to get away from mine. Glad you and your kids are safe!❤
Kendall, hearing you say how proud you are of us for reaching goals on the campaign made me smile, however we are so PROUD OF YOU! You have an entire life outside of this not to mention other businesses, a new mom and a wife. And you STILL manage to use this platform to support those that really need it. The campaign wouldn’t be possible without all of the work and dedication you’ve poured into this over the last decade. 🎉🎉
It's so mind boggling that she went through great lengths to keep her family and friends from finding out she wasn't graduating from school only for it to backfire. Not only do they know the public knows too.
I think faking your death or disappearance is obviously horrible but I could imagine there might be some mental illnesses at play in a lot of cases… I think that mental health is always important to keep in mind when casting judgement on scenarios like these. We don’t always know the whole story ❤
Agreed! This whole thing seems very scattered, like she was just very overwhelmed and wanted to run away from the situation, but then had second thoughts and tried to come up with a way to explain her reappearance. It really doesn't seem like she had this whole nefarious plan to start out.
This was about ten minutes from me. In December 2012 my nephew went missing. We did not know anything until his remains were discovered In January of 2015. When I saw this start popping up everywhere on my Facebook feed, my stomach dropped, I was sick for the family just knowing how they were feeling. I just wanted to run out and comb those woods myself to help, she was all I thought about. Then…to discover it was a hoax… it’s like a slap in the face to anyone who has lived this in reality. I was truly furious. I can say honestly that I celebrated when I watched her arrest.
You asked what situation might be acceptable, made me think of the movie Sleeping with the Enemy with Julia Roberts. She faked her own death to escape abuse, which was the closest I could think of.
I couldn't agree more! I actually went through an abusive relationship where I had to leave with my children, it's terrifying. I didn't go missing but I had to hide from him.
My boyfriend had a friend who was pulled over by a man impersonating an officer, murdered, and dumped in Horsetooth reservoir in Fort Collins, CO in 2003. This is absolutely terrible and vile. Makes me heartbroken that someone would put their energy into doing something so sick and selfish
I think the police jumped into action because the narrative was that her last movements were when she was being “pulled over”. They were 100% interested in protecting themselves at that stage which is why I believe they actioned this case so quickly when compared to others.
I think they might of put in the same effort either way, but a cop possibility being involved definitely raised flags for them and they weren’t going to let that pass
This! There’s so many dodgy police out there, it’s believable enough that they may be involved. Of course, the police would jump into action to make sure their reputation isn’t worsened
Where on earth did she expect to go with this? This is such a ludicrously immature way of dealing with something that isn't even a problem. You're right, and I agree - the amount of missing persons cases that just get ignored, or are lazily-responded to, are way too many. This is a spit in the face to the families of those missing people.
that's what I was thinking, makes you wonder, was it a mental break or what? It's certainly not normal behavior anyway, even though she did an unacceptable thing, it's doesn't sound like she wanted to do it out of badness, seems like she was afraid, Idk ;/ Definitely seems to be a not so logical person though.
In 2021 my youngest son away and was missing for 3 months. NCMEC was really there for me and helped me get his face out to the public. Their volunteers regularly reached out to me to check in and help me cope. It was such a dark time in my life. I don’t think I would have made it through without them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting such an amazing organization and wonderful group of people. 💛🖤💛🖤
@@doodlesaurusrex2958 thank you so much for your kind words.💜 It really is a parent’s worst nightmare and I can’t imagine the pain of my child never coming back home and not knowing what happened to them. My son is home (just turned 18 🎉) and is doing great!🥰
This happened a few minutes from me. This was such a slap in the face to everyone that looked for her and shared her missing person poster. I can only hope that this kind of behavior from someone with an obvious issue doesn't affect any other searches for any other people who are legitimately missing.
I’m on the other side of the state in Lancaster and I’ve had this same worry…I fear that other missing persons won’t be taken as seriously now :( I’m a solo mom of 2 daughters and I can’t imagine the thought of what could happen, I can’t even finish the statement but you know where I’m going with that. I’m sorry your community is dealing with this, when stuff hits so close to home it really hits hard. Sending hugs, I hope this doesn’t lessen the searches for others! ❤
As the sibling of a missing person, this angers me to no end. The heart ache this does to a family is excruciating and I can't imagine finding out that it was faked. This also makes actual makes people want to believe missing person cases less and less. I have had some people even question my sister's disappearance as if I don't know her well enough to know she is truly missing. This is a disgusting act and I am appalled.
Hey hun, sending you and your family love and prayers 🙏🏼 I was a missing person for a few months almost 10 years ago and am grateful to be here today 💜 I hope she comes home safe so you guys can be reunited again 🥀
It’s insane that she was not comfortable enough to tell her parents that she wasn’t in school, that she went to this length. I wonder why so fearful of her parents but I hope this is a big lesson for her as well it was not right!
I’ve been in her situation where I wasn’t doing well enough in school and had to take a year off without telling my parents. However, never would I go to such lengths that she did. I understand feeling ashamed about not doing well in school, or whatever the case may be. She went too far and didn’t think about how it could impact everyone else
There are people out there who literally commit murder in order to avoid an uncomfortable conversation like that. In many cases, decision-making is more emotional than rational.
I wonder if this is what happened with the current case of Carlee Russell😳-nursing student, worked at night, pulled over on the side of the HWY, law enforcement reacted immediately to find her
I agree. I would tack on some sort of community service, require her to receive a psychological evaluation, 6months of mental health treatment based on the psych eval and two years of probation.
I would like to know who the heck bailed her out? Mom? I would have left her there. How else would she learn from her mistakes? It's not like she's a teenager, she's a grown woman!
The fact that there are so many missing and endangered people who do not get the level of attention and resources made available to them as quickly as Chloe did is incredibly infuriating. Cases like this are unbelievably frustrating and like a slap in the face to the families of those who are actually going through having a loved one who is missing. I can understand potentially faking your death to escape a potentially dangerous situation. However, faking your kidnapping is inexcusable. She was so stupid about this and obviously didn't think if through very well if she was just going to reappear the next day. Although, it was probably for the best she didn't drag this out because she very easily could have caused a panic that there was someone impersonating a police officer that were targeting people in the community. I definitely believe she should face some kind of legal action for what she did. Paying back restitution is just the tip of the iceberg for what she deserves. There are better ways to handle potentially embarrassing situations. The fact that she wasn't going to be graduating like all her friends and family thought is going to be footnote in comparison to the chaos she caused and the backlash she is now facing. My heart really goes out to the families of actual missing and endangered people and I hope that cases like this do not keep damaging the efforts that police put into looking for their loved ones, because let's be honest here: every time some falsely reports a kidnapping or abduction, the only thing they are really doing is hurting actual victims. Chloe probably got attention because she was a pretty, well off, white, woman. If she was a low income, person of color she would not have gotten nearly as many people to jump in to help her as quickly as they did. So many victims don't get the attention they deserve because they are viewed as "not as important" to the media. It honestly makes me sick just thinking about it.
Very well said, i was going to comment but you said exactly what I was thinking! So true. She deserves jail time for sure . W. Privilege is a real thing and to think there is people that dont believe it exists. Smh
It makes me sick to my stomach that someone would fake their own kidnapping, especially since my sorority sister has been missing for two months. I could see if your trying to escape an abusive partner, but I also think there should be more options to help keep victims of domestic violence safe.
I would just like to know the thought process behind this because she did it to avoid her family from knowing she wasn't graduating, but now not only do they know, she's also public enemy #1, known for being a liar and facing criminal charges... was it worth it 😭
She probably did it so that when she was found alive, her family would be so grateful that the lying about graduating would appear insignificant. Which to me would be understandable to a certain extent ... if she was 11 yrs old.
Prison time for this?? No. If you know anything about prison, it would be a huge waste of money and resources as well. If you want some real good done here, she should get required community service.
Totally agree. She will be using more resources being in prison and will potentially end up needing to be supported the rest of her life. Prison should only be for people who are a danger to the community, she should be required to give back to it. Not be locked away from it.
@@nacoleinseoul2604 Thank you, she is home now and living with her sister. It is the not knowing that really hurts and you feel guilty as a family member for not checking enough. I think with time it will come.
@@kayleneaktuell I’m glad she made it back home, but I’m sure it’s still a difficult topic for you and your family because of the guilt you all felt in that moment. I hope she will be able to heal from this
So I was in an abusive relationship and also an incredibly abusive marriage, and I honestly feel like faking a kidnapping or death is just too far in the cases ive heard about. But really, I don't know every person and every situation, so there very well may be people out there who feel like faking your death or kidnapping is the only option or the best option, and I dont have any right to judge someone about a situation I don't know anything about. So as much as I'd say that I can't think of a situation where doing that is the best option, I cannot think of every situation so im sure there's cases where that really is the only option. I had to trick my ex husband into getting on a plane and going back home, then when he landed I told him I didn't have a return ticket and I'd be filing for divorce. Then I left the state for 2 months because I was scared he was going to come find me. I literally left almost everything I had behind because I didn't have time to pack it all up, and I to this day have never gone back to the town I was living in when I left him. He always promised me he would kill me if I left him, so leaving him was definitely one of the scariest things I've ever done. If you're going to fake a kidnapping, atleast call the police and tell them you're fine so when it's reported they know(if the situation allows obviously) . I just don't think wasting all those resources is right🤷♀️ *Edited for clarity*
I’m so sorry you were in that situation 😣 I also have experience with DV but I actually do think it’s justified in extreme cases. Some people are genuinely dangerous (a lot, actually 😣 women are killed all the time by partners/former partners 😣). If your abusive spouse/partner is a cop for example or he knows cops, then telling them (in any department) that you’re actually just fine would mean he would easily find out. Not all people have close family, and in so many DV situations, the abuser has made sure you’ve burned all your bridges 😣 Some women sadly _feel_ they have no one left to go to (and even more sadly, often they truly don’t. People don’t understand DV. If a friend helps a woman escape DV, over and over again, but she always goes back, that can be frustrating. Those friends often say “I’m not doing it again. You’re on your own”. I completely understand why they feel that way, but they don’t know why it’s so difficult - and often lethal - to leave an abuser for the last time. On average, women leave 7 times before leaving for good, and on that last time, the risk of being murdered is 500 TIMES HIGHER 😭). Lots of women are cut off from their friends and family due to that very reason. I obviously think it’s extreme to fake your own death, but if someone in severe DV felt she had no other choice, I wouldn’t judge her. Too many women are murdered. Restraining orders are just pieces of paper, and it’s just a threat of going to jail. If he doesn’t care about the cops being called when he’s hitting her, he won’t care about a piece of paper 🤦🏼♀️ I have seen far too many cases where a woman has moved cross-country, and he’s turned up - even MONTHS later - and murdered her 😔 The same desperation that drives someone to kill (or attempt to) their abusive partner, is the same desperation that could make someone want to fake their own death. Each situation is unique, so I wouldn’t completely dismiss every case of a DV victim faking their death. (Just as a ps. That’s not the situation in the case in the video whatsoever 😂 She’s in a whooooole other league 😂)
This was really well said. My last relationship has dv and my lawyer told me she had lost a client somewhat recently when her ex killed her. I also joined a support group where a member had recently been killed because she didn’t get away soon enough. Very scary. Very sad. I don’t think it should be done if there is any other way, though.
I Really Don’t understand when “The Family” asks “The Community “ for help in search, then when they find out it’s a hoax they ask the same “Community” for privacy? Instead of at least having Chloe come forth & apologize to say the least 🤷🏽♀️
Recently had an experience where the police wouldn’t help because the person missing was an adult, even though they had mental health conditions. They said “it’s not illegal to go missing or stop taking your meds”. Extremely scary and frightening.
I think it's never okay to fake a kidnapping. However, I can see faking your death if your life is in danger and you have no support system to get out.
Hey Kendall ! I think you should cover the Carlee Russel story. She just recently faked her own disappearance and I would love to hear what you have to say!
I live in Greensburg, and this incident caused so much panic. People worrying about her safety, along with our own. She had so many thinking that there was a kidnapper on the loose in our little area. She deserves jail time AND the requirement of paying back what was spent on her stupidity.
I live in GBG too! I was so worried for her and her family. So upset when I found out she wasted so many peoples times and the resources that were used to find her.
I live in Greensburg too! People all over the state were sharing stuff on Facebook and everything trying to find her all for it to be a complete joke. It made me fear for not only my life but anyone in the area thinking there might be someone doing horrible things to people! She deserves everything coming to her!
I agree with you Kendall. I think the only justifiable time to make yourself disappear is if you’re in danger of someone and believe that’s the only way to protect yourself
While I think her reasoning was absolutely ridiculous, I do wonder what kind of pressure she felt that she decided to go to this extreme instead of facing possible embarrassment 🧐
@@SallyMars she needs mental help. clearly she wasn't stable. sending her to jail so the rest of her life is ruined will lead her to commit more crimes. America has enough people in jail.
for reasons because something similar really happened makes this so frustrating. there’s a movie called “believe me” that’s based on a story about a woman who was kidnapped, assaulted and kept tied up blindfolded the entire time. she ended up convincing him to let her go. and because she was blindfolded (leaving her little description of her setting and of him), and because she was let go, no one believed her.
I'm living out of state now, but I'm also from the same area. There are missing people or unsolved murders from that area and she took resources away from people and families in need. She went 5 minutes up the street and did this. Vile.
Kendall, you are amazing. Love your channel. I am not a native English speaker and I really enjoy watching you because you always explain everything in clear and correct English without using fillers. Wishing you all the best
I’m about 30 minutes from where this happened. I even shared on facebook that she was missing! Crazy to think one of my favorite youtubers is covering this story!
she needs prison time, this is a slap in the face to people who are missing etc. she needs to learn her lesson, i don’t feel sorry for her. she’s need prison for even just a few months. but she definitely needs therapy and psychological help cause wtf 💀 the police did so much to help find her when they could’ve been working on other peoples cases
I agree. If this went on for a couple days or weeks, then prison time for sure. But to me it sounds like she made an impulsive decision one day and realized it was dumb, so she came forward. I’m not saying it’s right but I don’t think prison time is the answer
I’m just curious - if she didn’t tell she had faked her abduction and just told that she needed some alone time and was alone in the woods and needed to think about things in terms of the school drama and just appeared on the second day - she wouldn’t face a jail time right?
My husband went missing 4 weeks ago, and tried to take his life. Those hours he was missing were terrifying, and the worst of my life. I am still trying to get over it. I can totally imagine how her family felt, and that can never ever be made right. What a selfish and callous thing to do to them. She needs teaching a harsh lesson.
My eyeballs rolled so far into the back of my head when you got to the reason she did this. It’s just so silly and sad. Did she really think the police and her family would just forget about it when she returned ? Honestly it’s very disrespectful, there are REAL kidnapped and missing people. :(
I truly feel bad for her mother because she might have PTSD from this ordeal. The thing with PTSD is that you do not have to be in a situation where your life is actually in danger to be traumatised;. You "only" need to actually believe it or be in a distressing situation: a false active shooter alarm where you have to stay sheltered can give you PTSD. So your daughter pretending to have been abducted, searching for her, ... is more than enough to create trauma and PTSD
Can I request more videos like this? I have to avoid the ones with too much horrific content when my anxiety is bad but I still want to watch your videos 😂
I think there can be an understandable situation where someone could fake their own death (disappearance, not so much), because they were in danger or needed to get away from something. I’m not sure why Chloe thought this would make things better… was she planning on saying she couldn’t graduate because of the kidnapping when she was never going to graduate? It’s so weird.
i cant believe you covered something so close to home. I live in greensburg and was so scared until the news came out. it’s absolutely devastating that someone would fake something like this when others go through it everyday.
this happened in my town! we were all so spooked. there have been a lot of human trafficking rumors in this area for a while now and that’s where my mind went immediately. i unintentionally drove past the scene and saw them loading her car up to be towed elsewhere, it was soooo eerie. saw the helicopters searching for her too. my family and friends were all so pissed to find out she faked it! and for such a dumb reason
I live in New Stanton and I haven't heard of this until she said in Jeanette Pennsylvania I was like wow what I had to pause this for a minute to soak up that I had no clue about this but yet right up the road
At the moment, I don't see a reason why someone in a dangerous situation would plan a kidnapping. I imagine they would just run away and keep their head down since they would be trying to escape whatever dangerous situation causes them to run away, not plan a kidnapping. In fact, it would do the exact opposite, because if they were found they'd be put back into that dangerous situation, so it doesn't make much sense for them to do that. It makes more sense if the person they were running away from faked the kidnapping to get them back. But that's only the case for people who are of "sound mind."
Kendall showing us the tee-shirt colors and talking about her favorite colors. Literally the background lighting lines up perfect with the teal and purple shirts. ❤❤
I just love Kendall… realized I’ve been watching for a little over two years now which is crazy… love that she truly reports, says her own opinion (slightly) but only based on the actual info provided, and it just feels respectful cause there’s so many where people laugh or joke or make the video to focus on their conspiracies based on nothing. I feel guilt for my interest in listening to true crime tbh cause it’s just so horrific and painful but Kendall truly gives reports and emphasizes the importance we can take from these cases and the important things we can do for other cases (go fund me, charity, potentially getting tips, and simply attention and awareness to cases). Definitely the only person I’d recommend for true crime due to the respect and effort she puts in.
I do wonder if they hadn't thought it was a police officer who had taken her, they would have acted so quickly. I really feel for families of missing people who see this story. It must be heartbreaking.
i love the comments bc it brings up interesting points like this but you’re right and i never thought of that. police seem to act faster when there reputation isn’t on the line. not that they deserved this but what if it had been a normal kidnapper not a police.
faking something like this AND using up all resources should be a felony in my opinion. let’s make it known that this will not be tolerated. so utterly shameful and disgusting. you know how many families would give everything for that kind of help?? this makes me so mad
I can imagine situations where people are in such great danger of someone else that it would justify faking their own disappearance. Especially when the system doesn’t protect them. As for Chloe, she should definitely make up for the costs that she caused but I feel like additional community service would be much more useful than putting her in jail. Thank you for the video Kendall! Love your content. Greetings from Germany :)
The crazy thing is, if she just showed back up and said she just needed time away from everything, she wouldn’t be charged. It’s cause she claimed the false kidnapping that she is getting hit with all this. Adults are allowed to voluntarily go “missing” Without telling anyone 😂
True! But I think she was thinking that if she was “kidnapped” people will be too concerned to worry bout the fact that she didn’t graduate. If she would have just showed back up they would be glad to see her but ask where is degree maybe? Idk lol
@@dreikadavis3827 I think the timing of the "kidnapping" was because she was supposed to graduate, and she needed a seemingly valid reason that she would miss the ceremony and no one in her family could come. Maybe she thought she could just tell everyone she got her diploma in the mail since she wasn't at the graduation ceremony.
This happened in my hometown. We were terrified when it was reported she was missing. Her face was everywhere and we were scared there was a killer running around. Her actions affected a lot of people and she deserves jail time for it.
Had to pause the video and buy the NCMEC shirt! The design is absolutely lovely just like the messaging. I love this podcast and everything you do for charities, organizations, and families. You guys rock!
I guess my reservation with the matter at hand (voluntarily going missing) is that I truly, truly doubt that this is done in someone's right mind. If your only options are literally "I want to disappear" that is a parallel to suicidal ideation, IMO. Particularly with the way that she reappeared as the alarms were raised and there was search efforts for her, and extra so because of how she folded to the cops as soon as they questioned her story. I understand that to a lot of people suffering from having missing family members, the way that this department was able to mobilize for search efforts and was taken seriously. On the other hand, I look at this and I see someone who was struggling with a severe mental health crisis that she genuinely thought her best option was to fake her kidnapping. And all this disgust towards her for it and calling her an enemy of the people when for all we know she was contemplating suicide, and didn't want her loved ones to think it was their fault by making it look like it was something else. Unlike sherri, who continuously lied to the public and had a plan in mind for what she was doing (cheating on her spouse), all we know about this girl is that she had seriously failed her family's expectations and was still around the area. If I'd been in that sort of mindset, and I was in her shoes, I'd be thinking to myself "I should have just gone through with it." because then my loved ones wouldn't have the shame of the criminal investigation on their hands. I'm definitely projecting, but so are everyone else here. It's not as though she asked for her loved ones to call in those resources. We shouldn't be solely mad at her that she did, we should be mad that these resources don't go to everyone who is missing. Going to be honest, guilting people who are already in desperate situations with "what about your loved ones!" as though the person's own feelings don't matter is pretty disgusting. This is not a situation that most individuals would put themselves in without extraordinary circumstances. I wouldn't be surprised if in the trial it is brought up that she was contemplating ending her own life as a mitigating factor. And if that truly was the case, then the resources weren't "wasted", she was found and brought home safe and alive. Sherri is an outlier of outliers and her disgusting desire to cheat and not get caught shouldn't remove our ability to reserve empathy for people like Chloe. And prison time? Fuck that. What sort of message are you sending to people in mental crises who ARE considering disappearing either literally or metaphorically by ending your own life? What is the GOAL of prison time? Is she a harm to her community? No! What the fuck. She gave up the story at the first pushback of officers. If I saw this and I was still in that sort of deep depression, I would just go "alright. I'll just end it then. That way they'll know what happened to me."
I live right by Jeanette and this definitely was terrifying for it to be so close to home! And then, for it to all be a hoax… just feel sad for everyone involved and annoyed that so many resources were wasted. I hope Chloe is given genuine mental health care (though Pittsburgh area’s system is notoriously bad). So wild to have my favorite content creator covering a close to home case for me.
There was a girl that was missing from another state, she was in her early 20s. Her family said she came to our area to visit a friend and never came home, they couldnt contact her. They searched and searched for a couple of weeks and in the end they found her. She didn't want her family to know where she was. She didn't get in trouble for not letting police know she was ok, they were just like, shes an adult adhd can disappear if she wants to. It was very anticlimactic, but at least she was safe.
I agree! I kinda wonder if she had backed herself into a corner with the college thing and was just overwhelmed she made a series of really stupid decisions. This to me smacks of "young person not thinking straight" rather than "sociopath manipulating people".

Hey, Kendall. Can you cover the current heartbreaking disappearance of 6 year old Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez? Justice for Noel. 🙏💙💚💙💚
there's a glitch with your link just so you know!
I think demanding prison time for non violent crimes is ridiculous. Punishment yes, but prison? Come on.
Could y'all make a V neck version please.
agree that there are some non violent crimes that do not warrant incarnation, however for that to work in our current system many states would need to alter their definition of violent crime because their are countless crimes that most people would agree are very serious and violent but are not considered violent.
Honestly faking a kidnapping and getting caught the same day is wayyyyyy more embarrassing than not graduating
Right?!?!😅😂 she just made her life WAY more embarrassing.
Agreed!
So right!!! What the hell was she thinking? 😂
Right
Seriously! Like yeah not graduating sucks but only you and your circle would have known now the nation/world knows your business 😂 was it worth it? Lol
I think she should do community service with a group that help search for missing people so she can see that there are actual people that are missing and see what the families go through
Great idea!
That's not a bad thought, but I wouldn't let her anywhere near real victims. Anyone willing to do this has issues with empathy.
I agree, its a good idea, BUT she does need to do time. Max a year, minimum 6 months!
@DBSK4TY of course I think she should go to jail then when she gets out or even while she's in there she should have to work with an organization a year for each day she was "missing"
Thats not enough of a punishment imo. I think she should do 10 years in prison.
Disappearing after sending a text saying the police pulled her over is what made the cops jump in to find her right away. Any implication that a cop could have hurt her probably made them nervous.
Why, they hurt people every day.
@andrewhite4431 because it's a pretty white girl that got hurt, and people actually care about that
Exactly what my husband (former cop) said!
They dont kiddnapp people every day. They dont murder people in cold blood often. Cops are jot the enemy, bad choices are. @andrewhite4431
See, that's a solid reason.
Thats a very good reason. I think faking your death can be absolutely justifiable in many scenarios such as this, but faking your own kidnapping? Not so much.
But did everyone else think she was dead? Or just her abuser
Good for her and I hope she is flourishing in her new life
She was protecting herself and her baby. I hope they’ve thrived! That’s a great reason to leave. I assume the 80’s were easier to disappear in. Anyway, wishing her the best 40 years later.💜
I would empathize for someone who had to fake their death to escape a bad relationship or otherwise dangerous situation.
I agree. Faking your own death would be justified in the case to escape extreme abuse
Right?! You gotta be in one heck of a shitty position to go that desperate to leave an abuser...
For example rich, and/or powerful people can't be gotten away from sometimes. There's no legal way to deal with a person like that.
@@bj.reo87 it doesn’t matter how rich or poor someone is, you can always get away from them. No amount of money in the world could force a person to stay with another person. How would that even work? Being held against your will though is another story.
@@Mjan-81 you watch true crime but honestly believe there are people that are impossible to run from
What annoys me most about this situation is that they’ve taken away from someone who is actually missing from kidnapping.
I didn’t graduate when I was supposed to and had to stay an extra year. As embarrassing and depression-inducing as that felt in the moment, I would NEVER have imagined to fake my own kidnapping to distract from it. Insane behavior.
Killing me softly with your song. Me too! I remember the look on my parents’ face. So embarrassing, but I figured it out and graduated.
But I for damn sure will use any tactic I can to find a lost loved one.
yup they’re very selective and were looking out for their best interest it seems :/
FACTS
Yuppp!
Makes sense then bc other than that I'm sure they wouldn't of acted since she literally was just seen within a hour or so.
She was my first thought hearing this story
@Astrid X I adopted 2 huge dogs who look mean but are actually lovely dogs. I take them almost everywhere I go. I don't need pepper spray yet.
That is so sad 🥺
EXACTLY
Did she expect her parents to just forget about her graduation after her “kidnapping”? 💀
I was wondering that, but then figured, maybe she thought they wouldn't have the heart to be angry at her after what she'd "been through"
PROBABLY IN HER DUMB HEAD 🥴🤪
Seriously though. She did not think this one through at all
she could probably get away with saying that she didn't want to go to graduation because of the kidnapping and therefore she could skip them seeing that she was not on stage or have her name called.
I don't think they'd be concerned about her making her graduation if the kid napping was real lol
Off topic but Kendall's so so respectful in her every case.
No drama, just class.
Couldn't agree more
honestly she’s the only true crime youtuber i’ll watch for that reason. the rest make no efforts to actually help the victims, appropriate cases for their own gain + talk abt it like it’s high school gossip…
Murder with my husband is extremely respectful also
On topic. It's why I never miss one of her videos.
Truth!
She made things 10x worse by doing this. NOW, HER FRIENDS & FAMILY ARE REALLY DISAPPOINTED. 😖😖
Very selfish of her. Went not even 5 min away. Whole family is embarrassed now.
Probation, house arrest, and a shit ton of community service. Prison will just cost more tax dollars. Make her give back to the community.
Typical..
Agree
And real community service too, not that bs where you can buy out your time with money.
Hi neighbor! Im a county over. I actually sent Kendall a request on her request form to do a video about Alivia!
Pittsburgh here! I remember Alivia’s case. I sent Kendall a request as well! 🥺
I did as well!
this gave me whiplash, i rarely see my name!! i hope she is found and i hope kendall covers this 😞
Omg that’s disgusting
As a parent i can't imagine the agony she put her poor parents through!
Right!?
This is more embarrassing than having to tell my friends I’m not graduating. 😵💫
Dude embarrassingly enough, I have not graduated yet (dropped out for a couple years), but this video makes me feel a lot better abt my situation 🤣😒
But what did she even expect to happen when she reappeared
She could have taken the GED lol
As a person who's sister has been missing for three years: This is absolutely awful. My sister didn't get nearly as much of a search, nor did she get the publicity. It seems like the girl who faked her own kidnapping is still getting more than most women who go missing.
That's so sad. What's your sister's name & what area was she last seen?
Can you give more info on your sister? I share a lot in missing persons groups and would like to post there (if that’s okay with you!)
I'll share on my pages! Any info you want to share!
Breadcrumbs for any information shared
Whats her name so we can spread this message elsewhere?
I think that the only “reasonable” reason to fake your own kidnapping is if you are trying to get out of an abusive situation and have no other way.
Abusive situations or the most extreme ones where your life is threatened-like when witness protection comes in!!!
I live in PA and can’t believe I haven’t heard of this case. It makes me so angry, especially since a local 19 year old named Kadin Black has been missing since Dec 17, 2022. His mother is desperate for answers. His case isn’t getting much attention all, let alone resources from the PA authorities.
I live in PA, too and I haven't heard about this either.
That's sad. Heartbreaking 💔😥
Insane.
I think you can justify faking your death or something if you’re in danger. Like not kidnapping just pretending you’re dead.
Like if you wanna leave, then do it, but don't pretend to be a victim of something you're not!😤
yeah, especially if they're in an abusive relationship or in a cult, faking your death and running away is a good option.
or if you have a life insurance policy and have a way of receiving the funds post-fake death haha /sarcasm
however, faking a kidnapping is honestly worse than faking death imo. because not only does it take away resources--- it really does waste people's emotional resources as Kendall said, so that the affected public will not care about the next missing person as much, because what if it's another fake? The public's help is so often instrumental to locating missing people, don't wanna **** that up.
man some of these women really take advantage of missing white girl syndrome. it's sickening.
There are also cases where people let law enforcement know that they are going to do this before leaving, that way law enforcement is informed if/when the abuser reports them missing and will not unnecessarily allocate resources to the missing persons report
agreed!
Absolutely no excuse to do something like this without the danger of loss of life or safety. I feel for her loved ones who had such a scare and are now dealing with the fallout associated with such a hoax. Thanks again Kendall for quality coverage of this case and all of your others!
And now instead of just telling her family and friends that school didn’t work out, the whole world knows. Embarrassing to say the least
I feel like faking your own death/disappearance is justifiable if you are being abused or your life is threatened. However, I would hope that your closest loved ones who are safe would be notified and aware. To put them through that type of torment is just awful!
Sometimes they can be in danger too if the abuser start to go to them to have answer on "where you are" :(
Also, sometimes the family doesn't listen or believe the victime.
I also started flunking college and was put on probation. I remember being so terrified and embarrassed to admit it to my family and friends, but never did faking my own kidnapping cross my mind.
I hope everything turned out okay for you?
Same here, I didn't tell them for a while because I was embarrassed and felt bad but I eventually came clean and even managed to finish with their support and help!
I thought this was going to be a case about Eleanor Williams from the UK. She lied about being taken in by a Asian grooming gang and was found to be lying about the whole thing.

I agree!
Idk. It takes special people to work with victims like that and she don’t seem like the right type of person.
This is truly a great idea
She should have to attend a victims panel of families of missing persons, just like those convicted of DUI’s. No one wants this person near them.

She should’ve just explored being an artist or something similar to that instead of nursing

I think they might of put in the same effort either way, but a cop possibility being involved definitely raised flags for them and they weren’t going to let that pass
I had the same thought.
This! There’s so many dodgy police out there, it’s believable enough that they may be involved. Of course, the police would jump into action to make sure their reputation isn’t worsened
Imagine being an actual kidnapping survivor or the family of a victim and hearing this story. Gosh I can’t even imagine the anger I’d feel.
This is a disgusting act and I am appalled.
i can’t imagine losing my sister ❤ i’m sorry.
@@angelinafranklin9587 it's a pain I hope you never experience. My sister meant the world to me.

Hey hun, sending you and your family love and prayers 🙏🏼 I was a missing person for a few months almost 10 years ago and am grateful to be here today 💜 I hope she comes home safe so you guys can be reunited again 🥀
I am so sorry!
@@snakeubitxh same here. I never would have taken it that far and I’m in treatment for GAD and MDD.
There are people out there who literally commit murder in order to avoid an uncomfortable conversation like that. In many cases, decision-making is more emotional than rational.
I wonder if this is what happened with the current case of Carlee Russell😳-nursing student, worked at night, pulled over on the side of the HWY, law enforcement reacted immediately to find her
Let's not waste more tax payers money by putting her in jail- send her a bill and do not let her off the hook
I agree
I agree. I would tack on some sort of community service, require her to receive a psychological evaluation, 6months of mental health treatment based on the psych eval and two years of probation.
I agree.
I would like to know who the heck bailed her out? Mom? I would have left her there. How else would she learn from her mistakes? It's not like she's a teenager, she's a grown woman!
I like this plan
Smh
Literally ! It’s cases that goes unreported and unnoticed it’s so sad when people do this and it’s families who really needs this type of attention
Endangered?
A pretty young white woman will always capture media attention. Unfortunately.
Very well said! I totally agree!
It makes me sick to my stomach that someone would fake their own kidnapping, especially since my sorority sister has been missing for two months. I could see if your trying to escape an abusive partner, but I also think there should be more options to help keep victims of domestic violence safe.
I’m so sorry, that’s so awful. I truly hope she’s found asap. Sending hugs, this has to be so difficult for you :(
I am so tired of the people doing the worst just because they fucked up in school. It’s irritating, you can tell your parents there’s a problem.

Completely agree
Totally agree. She will be using more resources being in prison and will potentially end up needing to be supported the rest of her life. Prison should only be for people who are a danger to the community, she should be required to give back to it. Not be locked away from it.

I just don't think wasting all those resources is right🤷♀️
*Edited for clarity*
I'm sorry you had to go through that. Glad you are out of that situation.
Not all people have close family, and in so many DV situations, the abuser has made sure you’ve burned all your bridges 😣
Some women sadly _feel_ they have no one left to go to (and even more sadly, often they truly don’t.
If he doesn’t care about the cops being called when he’s hitting her, he won’t care about a piece of paper 🤦🏼♀️ I have seen far too many cases where a woman has moved cross-country, and he’s turned up - even MONTHS later - and murdered her 😔
The same desperation that drives someone to kill (or attempt to) their abusive partner, is the same desperation that could make someone want to fake their own death.
I do think there are usually other ways. And you are more likely to be found if everyone is looking for you 🤷♀️
Does anyone else who follows all Kendall’s podcasts been noticing the consistency in new content
In this case it WAS illegal to go missing so….
Lol
I think it's never okay to fake a kidnapping. However, I can see faking your death if your life is in danger and you have no support system to get out.
Good point. With that, close loved ones could be involved.

It’s horrible what she did but no, jail time is ridiculous. Community service and repaying the costs of all recourses used in the search.

I agree with you Kendall. I think the only justifiable time to make yourself disappear is if you’re in danger of someone and believe that’s the only way to protect yourself

I would also like to know what's going on in her family that she couldn't tell them she wasn't graduating and to fake a kidnapping.

for reasons because something similar really happened makes this so frustrating. there’s a movie called “believe me” that’s based on a story about a woman who was kidnapped, assaulted and kept tied up blindfolded the entire time. she ended up convincing him to let her go. and because she was blindfolded (leaving her little description of her setting and of him), and because she was let go, no one believed her.
This is my hometown. We were terrified for this young woman. It’s such a shame she did this to our community and her family.
I'm living out of state now, but I'm also from the same area. There are missing people or unsolved murders from that area and she took resources away from people and families in need. She went 5 minutes up the street and did this. Vile.

I agree. If this went on for a couple days or weeks, then prison time for sure. But to me it sounds like she made an impulsive decision one day and realized it was dumb, so she came forward. I’m not saying it’s right but I don’t think prison time is the answer
Agreed !
She needs to go to prison periodt!

I’m just curious - if she didn’t tell she had faked her abduction and just told that she needed some alone time and was alone in the woods and needed to think about things in terms of the school drama and just appeared on the second day - she wouldn’t face a jail time right?
yeah pretty much
This is exactly what my thoughts were watching this. When they were doing the search they had no idea if she was abducted or ran away. Makes 0 sense.
I hope your husband and you are doing better now.
So your daughter pretending to have been abducted, searching for her, ... is more than enough to create trauma and PTSD
it’s insane to see kendall covering a local case. this whole thing was nuts! grateful Chloe is okay but she truly seems like she could use some help.
She can get help In jail where she belongs.

In war torn areas, I can see someone lying about their identity due to their life being at risk.
i cant believe you covered something so close to home.
Hey neighbor! I’m a county over
At the moment, I don't see a reason why someone in a dangerous situation would plan a kidnapping.

Definitely the only person I’d recommend for true crime due to the respect and effort she puts in.

faking something like this AND using up all resources should be a felony in my opinion. let’s make it known that this will not be tolerated. so utterly shameful and disgusting. you know how many families would give everything for that kind of help?? this makes me so mad
Agree 100%
I completely agree with you!

anyone else here during the carlee russel case also a nursing student that might or might not have been kidnapped 💀
I agree, for sure!
A much needed voice of compassion in this comment thread. Thank you for this.
Mixed emotions here...she should definitely face consequences, but I find it sad she felt she couldn't be honest with her family...
Probably not the only but certainly the FIRST to NEED & GET (mandatory) THERAPY ;)
I agree! I kinda wonder if she had backed herself into a corner with the college thing and was just overwhelmed she made a series of really stupid decisions. This to me smacks of "young person not thinking straight" rather than "sociopath manipulating people".
My thoughts exactly!
