This is my friend Lauren Cho but she was better known as El and thank you so much for covering her case it means the absolute world to all of us ❤ I met El while dancing together in Bristol township in PA and she had the coolest chicken purse ever LOL and let me tell you she was a force to be reckon with she was an incredibly amazing woman who was a singer a teacher and she had this little parrot named pork chop that she loved more then anything and she would always talk about him it was the cutest thing ever 🥲 but El always wanted to run a food truck so she took a leap of faith packed her bags and moved to Yucca Valley to fulfill her dreams and unfortunately she was taken from us way too soon and I hope the person who did this to her gets there karma 100 fold because El was NOT stupid and would never have just wander off without water and her phone and her money and she most definitely would have told someone where she was going and yes she had some mental health issues but should wouldn't have walked off like this nor would she have ever left her parrot pork chop and unfortunately he did end up dying of a broke heart 😢.... As someone diagnosed with bipolar disorder it scares/saddens me how anyone who goes missing or is found dead under suspicious circumstances with any history of mental illness is assumed to have had an “episode” or committed suicide… Even people on an antidepressant, just trying to get themselves help is looked down upon. It feels like most people just don’t see mentally ill people as individuals with value. I hope for healing for her family and friends and justice for El.

Agreed, as someone who has struggled with SI (sorry trying to be semi-discreet for the algorithm and in case of triggers) in the past, the fact that if I vanished or died in a way that COULD be self harm... It scares me that it would be assumed it WAS.

That’s so overboard - everyone sees people with any mental issues ass having “no value”? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard and maybe you need to recalibrate and realize exactly how many mental I’ll people cops/EMS go out of their way to help on a daily basis. I think people that have nothing to do with law enforcement other than watching these select stories have their perception of reality twisted into something that’s not true because all you’re seeing are hand picked cases that didn’t turn out well.

The lack of footprints from her Doc Martens makes me agree with you Kendall, taken killed elsewhere and then returned to near the compound, probably after the large search parties had already been through there. Sincere condolences to her family & friends 💔

    • @painoftheheart12
      @painoftheheart12 Рік тому +7

How do you suspect that the footprints would have been made? The ground in the desert in over 100 degrees is not going to retain footprints well. This isn't the Sahara with soft dunes. The ground out here is hard and there is actually NOT much loose sand, especially if it is over 100 degrees. Whatever sand there is, wind speeds are usually rather high, rarely clocking below 10 mph. In July 2021, Joshua Tree saw the most rain it would for the whole year. "Oh, that should make the ground soft then, right?" No. 100 degrees, that ground was like ROCK. The ground is already dehydrated from the heat, rainfall causes flooding. The surface of the ground becomes tough and cracked after the water evaporates. Good luck with footprints there my dude.

@KerryERRN you can literally look up the weather at that time. It rained recently on the 23rd. There would be no footprints of hers. The ground would have been like stone. The footprints that were in the area were from people actively looking for her days, weeks and MONTHS later. Like I get going off of what Kendall is presenting, but I have just lived here all my life with summer thunderstorms and rain and the ground for at least a week after is like shards of glass.

After spending so much time in the AZ and NM deserts, I've come to realize that many of those communes, compounds, and camping areas are absolutely wonderful for the artsy, free-spirited, out-of-the-box thinkers, but...they're also havens for the fringes of society who try to escape the law, problems, or even themselves. While El was probably surrounded by wonderful people, I wouldn't doubt one bit that there was someone in the same general area who wasn't as good-hearted as El and her peers. That person probably picked her up when they saw an opportunity. I know of several places where there are nice little communities that have been built and, not too far from those, there's a much darker element. I feel so bad for her family and friends.

Is it something like that with Bombay Beach or less common?

As someone who hikes in the California desert, I can absolutely see how she could have succumbed to the elements that quickly. I've gotten heat exhaustion after an hour of being in that heat, even while wearing a camelback and a hat, drinking water the entire time. That sun and wind is brutal and it saps the energy and moisture right out of your body. I cannot imagine being intoxicated in that heat. I can absolutely see how she could have gotten disoriented and sick even after only ten minutes.

My sister Toni went missing last July. She abandoned her car with her keys, purse, and other personal affects inside. It’s thought she disappeared into the desert and has yet to be found. Police searched by air for a few days and then one day on foot. 3 months later we were able to get a large search party with cadaver dogs to search and they found nothing. She suffered with depression, paranoia, and anxiety. Police can’t do much because there’s no evidence of a crime. It’s so hard to go through this and I feel for her family. Is there evidence exonerating the people that she was with? Because it seems weird that they found all her friend's prints but never found any of her's. If you were drinking out in the desert, and left on foot without water, you could get dehydrated and disoriented really quickly (even with water tbh). In the summer I see so many stories about hikers needing to be rescued. Sadly, some do pass away while hiking/biking in extreme temps. It can happen to anyone and at any level of fitness. If you were also drinking, that adds another layer of risk. Who knows if that’s what happened, but do be careful in the summer in the desert. 😢

I immediately locked my doors and shook my head. They both literally jumped in front of my car. When I shook my head they started banging on my windows and trying to open the doors. I sped away. It was the scariest situation I’ve ever been in. They chased after my car. They were cussing at us saying we were bi***es. I am a yucca valley native lived there on and off for probably over 20 years and when I heard about this my heart went out to her and her family and always wondered what happened to that poor girl, a lot of predators and drug addicts in YV. ( I am recovering addict myself) . So thank you so much for covering this Kendall, your my comfort watch , and I never knew Lauren but it is heartbreaking.

I am just watching this and I feel so bad for the family. I pray that whatever happened to her becomes known and if there is a person responsible, they receive justice. Prayers

My goodness..I feel heartbroken for her friends and her family..
although I do find it incredibly frustrating that we do not know anymore information about what happened to her and it’s been almost 2 years now. Rest in peace Lauren, we will get justice for you. 💕

This is so heartbreaking. 💔 People have no idea how quickly you get dehydrated and confused in 110 degree heat. She was probably dehydrated before she even stood up. She may have never made it out of the “camp.” I know someone who was missing for days in a very high traffic desert trail. He was finally found a few yards from his car. Search teams had gone past him several times before he was actually found. It was determined he got confused and died of heat stroke. I hope her friends and family get some closure. I’m sure they feel like there is more they could have done, but it sure sounds like there wasn’t.😢🙏

Yes, I have suffered from heat stroke twice and the second time I had actually been, what I had thought? adequately hydrating myself!

Having been so dehydrated I started hallucinating in my hometown in Kentucky - you would be shocked how quickly it happens and how lost you can get.
Considering she didn't really know the area super well --- this could definitely happen. 😢 Especially in that heat and drinking alcohol which quickly dehydrates you.

But they literally went to look for her 10 mins after she left. There's no way.
