What are some things you would change about Roanoke that I did not mention?
@@cynthiabranch7525 unfortunately I don't have that authority. I have family and friends that are addicted to drugs and everyday I pray that they are safe. That's about all we can do for them until they are ready to make a change in their lives. I know it has to be hard on you.
Your forgot to add that it's a commonwealth state and that's its a right to work state
@@tristopia1309 this is true.
Lower business tax to entice big businesses to move into the area and create economic growth. Downtown Roanoke city is a rotting version of Bedford because city council has no vision and the mayor sits with his thumbs up his butt.
Just moved to the area last year from Ca. This area is great. Homelessness, shootings, cost of living, job availability lack of things to do? Compared to the rest of the country this area is great. We absolutely love it here. I've worked and been all over the USA. ROANOKE area is absolutely wonderful. You all are some of the most friendly, polite people I have ever met. Consider yourselves lucky. We do.
Welcome to Roanoke!!! I think the same way you do. I love the Roanoke area and there are a lot of people moving here from CA because of the things going on there.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA yeah and they come here to vote in the same idiots they ran away from
If you want far nicer, far less almost no shootings, way cheaper living, very friendly home town people and living and no homeless, no tent encampments. Montgomery County, Radford, Dublin, Pulaski, Stuart, Max Meadows, Wyth County, Wythville Virginia areas. Roanoke is going down hill quick with all the theft, homeless, tent encampments, shootings, robberies and more bad. The problem is Roanoke City doesn't think their is a pan handling law, loitering law, trespassing law, or vegressing law on the books. So nothing is don much about the mentally ill mostly meth head homeless. Roanoke City Police are massively unemployed (officers short) and can barely cover the routes. This is why crime, theft, robberies, rape, shootings and more are on the rise. What people fail to see a person with a addiction problem pills, alcohol, meth, crack or more. They homeless addicted person living on the street has to pan handle and steal to feed their addiction habit. As long as Roanoke City and Roanoke County keeps letting this go on Homeless will keep coming and growing. And the shelters keep feeding the addicted homeless this problem will get worse and multiply. It's like feeding wild animals they will become addicted get lazy starve and die!!! But homeless not so much. All these homeless talk and will travel to other drugs lineant areas that let this go on like Roanoke Virginia.
Fantastic! Looking to move there from CA too!
Cough Cough down town Cough Cough
As a native roanoker, roanoke just needs more development, growth, things to do, and opportunity
I think Roanoke is growing in more of a technology way now with the medical schools. There are a million things to do in Roanoke but you have to get outside to do them.
As someone who lives in roanoke. Its terrible. Don't move here.
@@vibescorner863 Thanks for the input on that. I was considering moving either to Roanoke, Johnson City, TN, or Greenville, SC in the future since my job is remote now and housing is starting to become unaffordable in Charlotte. That helps narrow down the list for me.
@@jamesthefisherman1060 Just another day in the office. ( I hear 8 shots a day. )
@@jamesthefisherman1060 Greenville is nice maybe there? I know its not my place.
Born and raised on the east end of Long Island, I lived there for 27 years. I moved to central Virginia and have loved it but have fallen in love with Roanoke even more and am in the process of relocating there. It is a wonderful little city with a lot to do, a great night/weekend life, affordable for the middle class, a great sense of community and some of the nicest people around. And take it from someone who is looking for a job in the area, the opportunities are plentiful.
Don't let the negative thoughts of a select few impact your thoughts on the Magic City.
Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching. If you have any questions about relocating to Roanoke please reach out and I would love to assist.
Geez! No wonder crime is rising in Roanoke. The blue state transplants are all coming here to escape their blue States high taxes only to vote in the same idiots they escaped from.
@@jonburrows2684 It's drugs, rising rent, stricter background, credit score checks, backrupt government, stricter regulations , more corporations taking over, big pharma's been poisoning this country since Oxycontin, actually far before that but Oxy was a big one.
My current job went remote and I’ve been trying to decide whether to stay in Charlotte or move to Roanoke, Johnson City, or Greenville. I’m not sure which would be the best option.
Are you referring to Roanoke City only, or the Roanoke valley, with Roanoke County, Salem, and Vinton?
The Roanoke Valley as a whole.
With an accounting degree, where should I look for work in Roanoke?
I have worked for a VA based company for almost 10 yrs and I really am thinking about moving to Roanoke. It is so beautiful and I don't need anything to do.
Turn the music volume down.
It's loud for the people in the back. 😁
I just moved to Salem upon my exit from the Army just a month ago and I already love this place. These complaints are from people who just don't or refuse to know better.
Zoo, transportation museum, shopping, events, the greenway, etc.. Tons of fun within the valley.
Jobs are limited to places like Carillion and Walmart. Wrong, I work at a building supply warehouse and we have contractors picking up CONSTANTLY. We need more hands, and I'm sure so do the contractors.
Homeless and crime? Savannah, GA, Baltimore, MD, and Baton Rouge, LA make Roanoke look quiet as a snowy day individually. And I've been to all three for a substantial amount of time.
Great stuff here. Thank you for watching and welcome to the valley. Let me know if you have any questions about the area.
Thank you, thank you.
We live in Lynchburg and don’t frequent Roanoke that often. We have ridden our bikes on the Greenway and love it. The parks along the way are excellent. I’m waiting for the Greenway to continue through the old factory complex. Any news on that?
We’ll have to explore Roanoke more often!!
I am in Lynchburg quite often. I prefer the mountain views in Roanoke though. I am not sure when the Greenway will connect through there. Besides the Greenway what's your favorite thing to do in Roanoke?
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA We do hike on the AT at Rt. 311. Not really Roanoke, but close. We do like to grab lunch at the Green Goat along the Greenway, as well as get ice cream at The Blue Cow. Visiting the Star is always fun.
I moved to Roanoke from Buffalo and I can honestly say there really isn't anything to do here. There's no attractions for young adults. The city is mostly made up of hospitals banks and walmarts with a few random businesses mixed in.
I can understand that if you don't like outdoor type activities, theater, museums, or being a couple of hours away from other cities. What type of attractions are young adults looking for? Maybe I can help.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA where are the small pubs with good local bands. Coffee pot, brambleton deli. Or the park downtown. I want the small honky tonk hole in the wall where occasionally you find some amazing talent.
And don't forget Kroger.
I was born and raised in Roanoke, and I can honestly say I’m so glad I left. There’s nothing to do. The job market is horrible. There’s no growth and the people and local elected officials hate any type of change. All the good companies have moved out of the area. Violence is up. I’ll come back to visit family and friends but would never move back.
@Julian Paz hiking, breweries and live music. That’s all you got?
I agree with you, there are a ton of things to do in Roanoke, you just have to look.
@@Lynell540 exactly!
@McGn540 Absolutely. I spent the first 18 years of my life in Roanoke before leaving for college 7 years ago. I've been back a handful of times, only for a few days at a time, and each time I can't understand how I spent all that time there without dying of boredom. Even being there for 3 days makes me want to pull my hair out of my head! I'm moving to the west coast soon, and I hope I never have to visit that godforsaken city again.
@@Lynell540
What do you want, exactly? Giant malls? Gay night clubs?
What's wrong with hiking? Why do you hate nature so much?
I've lived in Roanoke all my life they need to crack down on these slum Lords charging high rent! Some of these houses/apartments need to be condem people dealing with rats & roaches. The city need to step their game up re-write the law of standards a person property must be in before renting out.
They keep voting for incompetent, criminal democrats
Roanoke is trash and I been here all my life💯
I've lived in Roanoke my whole life and for the most part it is pretty decent place to live. Gonna be pros n cons everywhere ya go, it's all in what ya make of it.
Thanks for watching and you are spot on. Every city has it's pros and cons.
How is the internet service in Roanoke?
It's pretty good in most areas. They are currently installing fiber throughout the Roanoke area.
Hey I am traveling to that area on 81 any good restaurants right of i81?
Not sure if you're still traveling this way but as you get into Salem, VA there is Mac and Bob's and Macado's about 5 mins from 81. Super good food at either restaurant.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA are they open on Sunday? Because we will be arriving later on a Sunday I saw that a lot of places close on Sunday which is a good thing still 👍🏻. I don’t see a lot of that where I am from.
@@CommomsenseSmith yes both restaurants are open on Sundays. If you go to Mac and Bob's they have an amazing calzone. And if you go to Macado's and you like steak, you want to get the big daddy.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA thank you I’ll check them out.
Not to say that the pandemic hasn’t had a huge impact everywhere, cause it has. But imo it really amplified Roanokes issues. I’m looking to relocate at the end of my lease. There’s so much more outside of Roanoke. It’s pretty I love the mountains and the wildlife but it’s time for something new.
So where do you think you're headed?
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA Anywhere in the south other than here lol. I’ve looked into Charlotte NC and other cities in NC. Im leaning towards NC. I’m also considering SC, TN, and GA. I have family in GA. I figure with all the remote opportunities relocating shouldn’t be an issue, I’ve been with my current employer for the last 10 years.
@@Ash-hb9cj South Carolina is hit or miss but if you can work remotely it's way more affordable.
There are areas that are absolutely run down but areas that are really nice, I'd recommend Greenville/Spartanburg areas, but again you gotta know where your good and bad streets are pretty much.
When it gets bad in South Carolina though....it gets BAD, so you gotta know where you are and where everything is.
@@astrahcat1212 Thanks for the advice. I’ve had the most people tell me to look into Greenville. Most recently my Uber driver. Your right though it really depends on where you live in certain areas. NW city in Roanoke is a good example. Some areas are really nice and safe. Others I wouldn’t want to drive through during the day.
Is there a Publix?
Unfortunately we do not have a Publix. We have Kroger and Food Lion.
Need to update this unless I missed it but the shootings and homelessness has gone up majorly. Sheetz built a whole building to get away from the problem. Buildings being demolished due to the homelessness
I live in north Florida and we are trying to move up there. We love Roanoke and we go up every year to visit my husband’s family. We always find plenty of stuff to do.
Lot's of things to do.
People talking about 'no growth'...wtf. Were you not here in the 80s and 90s?
Lived in Roanoke for a year and a half right by Mill Mountain actually,! Originally from Fredericksburg and currently live in Maine! Roanoke isn't bad, I definitely miss the low cost of living compared to the northeast!
Thanks for commenting. What was one of your favorite things to do when you lived her?
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA I enjoyed walking the greenway, getting food at Texas tavern and doing extra activities in the Surrounding areas such as going to VT games in Blacksburg and going to Smith Mountain lake!
Growing up in Roanoke, I really like these videos. Maybe for a future video, you could take 419 from I81 to 581
On it.
Knock the background music down about 60-70%
Thank you for the feedback.
Born there in 1972,left in 2003,moved to Orlando, Florida, and haven't been back since!!!!
My wife has been trying to get us to move to Orlando, but I have no real desire to live there.
Surrounding areas seem nice the central to northern side seemed kind of meh and got asked for money at gas station but that's every city in America these days, tons of drug addicts everywhere.
Generally same rules as any city in America....
1. Don't go to gas statinos or take walks at night if you're in the bad areas
2. Know where you extremely low priced and public housing is in the inner city so you can avoid it
3. Surrounding suburbs aren't half bad
4. Take hikes, walks, bicycle on trails
5. Obviously the main one have a good job and good friends, they exist everywhere if you look.
The mother nature is a hell of a lot more beautiful than most areas. I hear you get floods though is this true?
Yes Roanoke Virginia seems like a flood plain. You better be on a hill. Want a nice area that's growing, no flooding, no crime or homeless, good people go to Blacksburg or Floyd Virginia.
Nice video👍
Thank you!
Unfortunately the shootings have picked up in 2023 . it is the worst its ever been and the drugs are insane now . not to say its not bad everywhere else but the shootings this year is bad. ive lived here all my life and I do love Roanoke and the history. as you said , nothing good happens after 12. i would say now after 10.
I agree but unfortunately it's happening everywhere across the country right now.
Close the border. That's half the problem.
@@recordcastle1118 I very much agree.
Sincerely, a Texan.
Music we can t hear you
It kinda depends where you live in Roanoke va so I would recommend if you moved move to a small neighborhood nothing really happens in small neighborhoods
Music we can t hear youp
I know. 😔 I will do better next time.
Just got my car tax bill..went up 25%...didnt Youngkin sign a bill allowing localities to lower car tax?..Good old Roanoke
Unfortunately, taxes went up all over the country. I agree something needs to be done about it though.
You're kidding me he likes money lol
Housing prices are way too high here relative to wages and job opportunities. You have to really compromise and/or know someone to get a good deal. Using Chicago (third largest city in America and the leader in shootings) is a terrible comparison. I'd look up Green Bay and other cities similar in size and provide an accurate picture. Homelessness and gun crime are way up since I was a kid here. Downtown is much less safe than it used to be, but there is actually night life for young people there. One thing which will seem really weird to people moving here from many larger cities is the disproportionate number of lost dogs here. It's like Roanokers have forgotten how to control a dog in the years since I last lived here. They just let em roam the neighborhood in some cases. Then they end up missing. Finally, the local leadership here is a joke. Democrats have ruined the city proper, and have the same tired, old ideas which caused many of the problems in the first place. Roanoke is basically a city for retirees and the medical personnel who serve them at this time.
Thanks for commenting. The only reason I used Chicago is that I have had several comments on other videos that Roanoke has become "little Chicago" I would not normally compare like that. Roanoke has changed over the years and I agree the leadership in Roanoke is awful.
Yeah, it ain't even little Pittsburgh, which I just left, and where shootings are getting bad.
@@musicianshotsheet4806 Although the media pushes stories that sell I don't think it is as bad as most cities our size.
I was born and raised in Roanoke... Spent most of my life living there... The best day of my life was when I left that one-horse town...
I agree! My husband and I just relocated to Myrtle Beach a few months ago from Roanoke. Best thing we ever did for ourselves and our marriage. We are successfully working and working a program that is keeping us sober from dope
Texas Tavern after a Roanoke Rebels hockey game in the early 70s was the life.
I agree and it is still good after a hockey game. :) Thanks for watching
I've been to 41 states and 7 foreign countries. Lived overseas for 4 years. Roanoke beats them all, with some parts of Colorado a very close second.
Thank you for watching.
Except that Colorodo is probably 8 times the price of Roanoke.
@@astrahcat1212 Don't exaggerate. It's only 7 times the price of Roanoke.
Tell me about major flooding and crime in the Roanoke area.
I call BS on the jobs. With a bachelors and masters degree i would apply for jobs in different fields and would never get called back.
Agree , my son just graduated Roanoke college in Salem with a bachelor's degree in business management and was one of the lucky ones to land a job at a marketing firm in Salem but it only pays 40,000 a year, the companies here stay in touch with each other so that one doesn't pay a lot more than the other so it's a no win situation for employees but a win win situation for employers. Losing the railroad hurt so many people, they were given the options of either moving to Norfolk or Atlanta and that's not an easy compromise for families who had become rooted in the area😒
I agree that the railroad leaving hurt the Roanoke area, but what I see from a lot of my friends and kids friends is that they have a degree and not willing to start at the bottom of a company and work up to where they want to be.
Love to chat with you, there is always 2 sides to a story, and mine is much different than yours.
There is always 2 sides to a story and stories change as does life. My childhood story is way different than my adult story, but I would love to chat. Click the lick in the description to schedule a time.
everyone complains about the "lack of jobs" "nothing to do" and other things of the sort but like If you leave your house and touch grass youll find there's plenty to do, and for the jobs thats just crap I mean compared to the rest of the country the job market here is amazing. If I need a job in 3 days I could realistically get one. The biggest issue with roanoke rn is that its not expanding were sitting at the same population with no growth. The politicians that get elected are horrible especially in the county and only drive people away from the community and becuase of that no young people want to live here
Just moved to Cave Spring from Tampa Florida. Love it. Kids love it. I have my quiet 2 acre oasis now that we always dreamed of. Deer always lurking around. I am excited for what they are doing in Tanglewood area. I see Roanoke growing in next 10 years as more and more people look to rural America and away from big cities like Tampa FL.
David - Lauren Ellerman here, also from the Tampa area. The one thing we need in Roanoke is a Frenchy's Seafood like Clearwater beach - or great cuban restaurant. Otherwise I agree - Roanoke is a wonderful place to live!
@@frithellermanlawfirmpc4224 lol wow memories of Frenchy's Seafood. I was in the Temple Terrace area for 7 years. Tampa treated us good. We were just ready for some seclusion and 4 seasons.
Compelled to reply for frenchys. Floridan here haha. considering the move here. Thanks for your comments.
I never been to Roanoke, VA... but I'd have to agree with this guy. People's complaints about the place can't be nowhere near as bad as the bigger US cities. You wanna talk about Homelessness, cost of living, and violence... take a trip to Philadelphia, where I live. Smh
It isn't so bad here most violence happens after the bars close at night.
When they shut down the Iroquois, killed it for me!
I loved the Iroquois club. I got to see lots of different punk bands there growing up.
if your not super into outdoors stuff, or drinking then their really isnt much to do.
Living in California on the coast… need to relocate… the lofts look wonderful… this is the only place that has caught my eye so far
I’m moving up from Florida and couldn’t be more thrilled.
Welcome to Roanoke. When do you move here?
I am thinking of moving my family there
@@syreetagrant2gmail don’t. I made it about 3 months before coming back home lol
I had never been to the town, but transferred there with a job I had. I was also desperately escaping a toxic relationship.
There is a lot of crime, a lot of homeless people/drug addicts. Literally saw someone nodded out on a sidewalk in a neighborhood right next to mill mountain.
There’s no water, not even a pond to look at. There is a creek that runs through the town, but you can’t swim in it due to industrial pollution.
There’s absolutely nothing to do there. I hiked Mcafee knob and it was beautiful, but you can’t do that sort of thing every day.
Also the roads are EXTREMELY bad, the whole town is in desperate need of infrastructure repairs. I’m not sure if you already live in VA, but they do yearly inspections on you vehicle and you get fined over the smallest problems.
Oh and come May, it’s extremely hot. Like Florida hot, except like I said before, nowhere to swim, no where to escape the heat. The town is completely surrounded by mountain, so you don’t even get a decent breeze to take the edge off.
Seriously, don’t move your family there.
The homeless population is not down 13%.. otherwise, great to see you hype the city..
Just quoting HUD's statistics and not that it's the truth but I think in March, WSLS did a story about it also.
The homeless tent encampments and homeless shelters proves otherwise. Look at the pan handlers on most corners. Not skid row California yet but heading there.
It’s beautiful but it’s a one horse town! Absolutely no opportunities but that could change ! It’s beautiful and I love the Mountain View’s !
The homeless people group together they live in tents on Mill Mnt. South East is plagued with homeless. The shootings are almost every day here. The crime is bleeding over into Vinton.
Unfortunately it's bleeding throughout the whole country.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA You are correct the whole country has it's fair share of problems. Roanoke doesn't want to deal with it's problems I sold my Roanoke home and built me a home in Bedford. I miss the convenience of everything in Roanoke but I don't miss the crime or close neighbors.
@@stevewright1945 Amen to that. We are currently looking for land in Floyd and Willis where it is less peopley.
Well at least there aren’t hookers under the campbell ave bridge anymore 😂
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA Come down to Floyd and Willis homeless you will get run out of town. Now transported to Roanoke and dropped off.
Music volume drown out the speakers voice.
Sorry about that. Getting better all the time. Thank you for watching.
Did you seriously just use chacago as a baseline metric for shootings? 25% less than Chicago is bad.
They had 461 shootings recorded last year. That would make Roanoke 345 shootings in a area 192 miles smaller.
And before that you mentioned education? Does that include STEM?
😂😂 That would not be my 1st thought is to compare Roanoke to Chicago but one of my viewers said we were "Little Chicago" I did a little more research and the Violent crimes is anything with force not just shootings and murders. As of Aug 31st 2021 Chicago has had 5244 murders and Roanoke 12 as of September 16th. Now this doesn't count the shootings that no one died.
Roanoke has the potential to be like Asheville, as soon as one big tech company relocates there the rest will follow
Yes, but I don't think that it will happen anytime soon, but you never know.
I'm 55 years old and I've lived in Roanoke Virginia all my life
I grew up in Roanoke; left there 50 years ago for school and job in another state. Don't worry about the shootings... that is just another way Nature reduces the gene pool among those unfit to live in human society. Stay out of those neighborhoods and you will be fine. Roanoke was one of the better locations where I have lived... but that was a long time ago, of course. Good, honest and hard-working people, too. If I were building a factory, I would locate it in Roanoke, Franklin, Montgomery, Floyd, Patrick or Botetourt Counties, because of the quality of the people.
Thanks for your comment. I have live here for 50 years and still love it and I agree with the gene pool.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA I bet you live in South Roanoke or one of the lesser diverse areas of the city. Am I right?
@@jonburrows2684 I live in S.W. Roanoke county now but as a child and young teen we lived on 9th st S.E. and Indian River Village before I went into foster care at a group home.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA got out of Southeast as it became more diverse I see. Hmmm.. come on back to the hood
@@jonburrows2684 haha yeah I chose to go into a group home as a teen. Bahaha! I am in that area every day almost. I sell lots of houses in the area and manage quite a few rentals also, and no I am not a slumlord all of the properties I manage are well taken care of. Diversity does not scare me. I think it is great for neighborhoods and community. We need to go back to neighbors helping neighbors and the small community mentality.
Background music too loud
Thank you for your feedback. I will do better in my next video.
The shootings thing is bs. It happens on about 2 or 3 blocks in the usual spaces. Other than that Roanoke is super safe. Just don’t stay out until 2:00 am just like any town
100% agree with you.
Could not pay me to live there ! At least 2 or more shootings a week ! Usually ends in a fatality ! Lived there for awhile years ago could not get me to go back !
Most of the idiots are just wounded. Roanoke is not for everyone.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA I think Southern Lady may be a Russian bot....
@@frithellermanlawfirmpc4224 what makes you think that?
Get past Salem Virginia west on 460 no crime or homeless tent encampments all the way into West Virginia! Read my comment you will see where Roanoke Virginia is going.
Ever since the split of Conrail in the late 90s Norfolk Southern has been moving operations up north. In 2013 NS closed their Hump yard which is a major job source and their huge locomotive and car shop operations have been moved to Altoona, PA. This city was built by the Railroad and it was the heart of the N&W and now NS has ruined it.
and now theres new jobs
I've lived all over the country, and Roanoke is probably one of the best places. It has its downsides, but so does everywhere. I find Roanoke to be the right size. It's not too small and not too big.
I agree 100%! What is one of your favorite things about Roanoke?
I am Roanoke's only professional street performer. I spend a great deal of time Downtown. I'm often out until two in the morning or later.
The homeless population is full of kind, interesting people, that I've developed a positive relationship with. All it takes is being a kind and interesting person in return. Every one of us hits a streak of bad luck every once in a while. These folks just keep pulling the short straw. Sometimes it's their own fault. Often, it isn't.
I've never felt unsafe in Roanoke. Part of my job is to unite strangers on the street into an impromptu theater of entertainment. Everyone gets along. The "shooting problem" is massively overblown.
Roanoke is great, and only going to get better.
I'm excited to return home, after this tour of the DMV.
Thanks for watching my video. This is the Roanoke that I know also.
My son and I perform in the streets of downtown Roanoke as well he plays piano I play guitar we set up near the market in front of the co op beside the Roanoke Weiner stand and are well received by the merchants , we actually landed gigs at Evie's restaurant and Carribica soul.
You are right about the homeless people being some of the nicest people, we do free concerts at the rescue mission every month or two.
The music is wayyy too loud, can barely hear the host!
Who here knew that from all of the surrounding counties and cites of ronoake that all of there homeless ppl get brought and dumped in ronoake? That's why there's so many homeless pepole
I know there are a lot of people from Florida and North Carolina moving to Roanoke.
I've had quite a few clients of mine move from Nevada, California, and Washington State.
I miss happy’s flea market :(
Me too. I used to love going as a teenager, so many good deals to be had.
Moved to Roanoke VA in 1997 and love everything, sad about some things closing but it's life
It is sad. What is one of the things that have closed you miss the most??
Cost of living is low yeah 1200 for a one bedroom
Good lord!! Where are you looking? You can get one in S.W. Roanoke for $700-$850 a month.$1200 is way too much for a 1 br apartment.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA There are isolated pokets of complexes that are extremely high. But you can get 300/500 of you shop around

Only thing nice is the scenery. Night life sucks and job market sucks unless you know the right people. Roanoke is in decay and decline. Just drive down Williamson road any time and walk around and meet people if u speak the language.
It’s difficult to hear your voice, especially with the music in background!!
Trying to be more aware of that in future videos. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
Music to loud
Left in 85. It was OK then. The cops became freaks in about 1980 leading up to the current shitholification. No going back for me. Not just BlowNtoke but the US of first fourth world nation. Pura Vida
Imagine telling people they have to pretend to be religious if they want a roof over their head 🙄
I love it here it’s so pretty.
What is your favorite thing to do in the Roanoke area?
Having been to Roanoke on three separate occasions for month long stays I can say the following. Needs more better coffee shops. City needs a prominent attraction not just a star on the mountain, examples, theme park, zoo, cool museum, live music district like Nashville, better shopping centre/updated valley view mall, a big business to bring more investment and money to the area, airport needs more flights and better connections, cheaper air b n b rates they are far to high at the moment. Thanks
It actually does have a zoo, but it’s pretty small from what I’ve heard
there is a zoo and like 4 museums
@@michaelracz8222 ok I stand corrected. I will go check it out this September. The transportation museum I have been to and it was just ok. The Greensboro Science Center is cool... like really cool.
Mill Mountain Zoo, while technically a Zoo, is more like a small park with Animals.
Tubman Art Museum is by far the best of the ones in the valley, but still isn’t anything to brag about.
The transportation museum is a joke.
Center in the Square was cool when I was 9, and it was a Feilds trip.
The only thing to do in this town that isn’t outdoors related is drink, We have PLENTY overpriced micro breweries to keep your liver in shambles.
Virginia Transformer will hire and train you for a very decent wage!
That is awesome!!! There are so many jobs in the Roanoke area, you just have to get out and look.
Yeah that's what Roanoke needs... More construction workers.
I'd like to know more about these apprenticeship jobs that are here in Roanoke please.
A couple of companies are running commercials for them but here is a link for apprenticeships: bit.ly/3jnAxAc
a little ignorant with the "plenty of jobs" subject just my opinion, if you've earned a good living great but its not easy for many people as u insinuated, employers these days dont care for employees like I remember when i was young, early 2000s late 90s
Thanks for watching my video! I totally get what you're saying about companies not really caring about their employees. It's like you're just a number to them. It's really sad when people work for a company for 30-40 years, thinking they'll have a good retirement, only to find out it's not what they expected.
When I said there are lots of jobs out there, I meant there are many opportunities, but most of them are entry-level positions that don't pay a lot. It might not be what people want, but everyone has to start somewhere. It's hard to find jobs that pay well enough to live comfortably.
Life isn't as easy as it used to be and it seems like it's getting tougher everywhere.
If you think Roanoke is bad then don't come to Pulaski . There is absolutely nothing to do there. Roanoke is a great place compared to some of the other places. Just my opinion
I just moved here from the Richmond area anout a month ago. I laughed out loud at the "little Chicago" comment. Ummmm... no. Any time you bave a large group of people, there is at least some violence. That's every city-- because there are a lot of people. The homelessness issue is everywhere too.
So far, I'm loving this new place. Now, if only I could figure out how to get around this place without GPS. 🤔
I am soooo glad you understand this. Thank you for watching.
Shootings all the time, little Chicago
Roanoke has plenty to do. The ones who complain don't do anything. They would complain no matter where they went....
Preach!!!
I think you only fall in love with Roanoke if you never lived here cause I’m from bama and just moved here but people who have been staying here say they don’t like it but I think that’s bc they’ve been here so long . But I like it 💗
I lived in Massachusetts as a kid for a year or so but have always lived here and wouldn't move for the world. I am glad you like it here.
I just wish I had a place to meet young people and pick up a girl
If you like the outdoors there are a ton of Fall Festivals going on the next few weeks. Head on out and get your flirt on. You also have churches, Hockey games, and other ways to meet people.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA I guess. Wish I had someone to hang with
@@thecoolcario9048 I do understand. Put yourself out there. Join some clubs or groups that meet your interest.
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA well not much when it comes to gaming groups. And I'm very introverted so it's hard for me to find motivation to meet up
Try blade gaming or star city games. Magic the gathering and dnd are huge in roanoke.
can't watch over background noise
Sorry the next videos I will be more aware.
NOTHING TO DO?!! There's 100s of miles of trails! Get a bike, go ride! Go hike! Why live in the mountains if you're not gonna enjoy them?! That's what Cleveland Ohio is for!
Well said!! Thank you for commenting and watching.
I was born in Roanoke and lived all around town for 28 years now. Positives: It's a beautiful place, good to raise a family. Cheaper gas. Good hard working country folk. Clean air. Beautiful night sky. People tend to find our accent kind. IF you do meet friends they're very genuine. Negatives: addiction and consequently mental illness is rampant. There isn't much nightlife besides a house party or the bar. It's a terrible place to grow up in since there aren't many kids. you can be quickly outcasted. It's not ignorant per say, but there isn't a lot of understanding. It's not big enough to be a real city but there are too many people for it to be country. Roads need work, but there is no more space to add lanes. The jobs pay significantly less consensus being that things cost less we should make less. This creates a situation where it's very hard to leave. We have had a shooting every month this year, sometimes separate shootings in a single week. As of 2022 a lot of the restaurants have hepatitis problems.
wtf shut off background music
I'm planning to relocate from Ohio to Roanoke in December! Thanks for video. I'm excited for this new journey!
We are excited to have you here. If you have any questions about your move or Roanoke, feel free to reach out to me. I would love to help. What's Bringing you to Roanoke?
@@DiscoverRoanokeVA The scenery. It feels less intimidating then some bigger cities. And it's just feels right!
@@mygeezrmylife then welcome home! If you have any questions or need anything feel free to reach out.
Please don't do it ! Now Lexington Va is a great place to live ! It's about 30-45 minutes from Roanoke. It's the home of VMI and W&L University has a lot of history. I'm looking to buy a home there.
Don’t do it. I just relocated to Columbus almost a year ago and love it.
Grass is always greener. Adam and Eve were deceived into wanting something better than Life in the Garden of Eden.
i just moved to roanoke, and i got touched by 10 men in walmart
Actually kids are getting shot, check your info again
What age do you consider a child. I think if you are a teenager and out shooing someone then you are no longer a child, you made grown-up decisions. I have not read an article with a 4yr old being shot in a car that was passing by and if it was they are few and far between. No death is a good death but as far as shootings we are not as bad as other cities. Also most of the shootings happen after hours when bars close.
Move then. Whats stopping you

I came here to Roanoke Virginia homeless coming off a freight train I absolutely love this city good Christian area people are kind tons of outdoor stuff to do ☺️ I been living here for 2 years now got me a nice little apartment the community is awesome they help out their homeless and try to get them back up on their feet your never going to find a city like this anywhere else I spent 5 years hopping freight trains and hitch hiking I been everywhere small towns large cities this is the best city I found
cool video but the rescue mission is DISGUSTING and there is no excuse for roanoke not having 21st century programs and options for homeless. A lot of new exciting things in 2022 but I have to say good sir that your take on this was a bit of an L however well intentioned you meant it.
Don’t forget. City council basically criminalized being homeless. And RCPD, is more than happy to fine people who have nothing for sleeping under a bridge.
Nothing to do? Who says that? Cameron Frye?
It's incredibly cheap here. I just came back from Nova and we love in 2005 by comparison.
I've never been unemployed in Roanoke and I was born and raised and went to college here. If you work hard, you can find a job.
I was actually homeless for a bit. It was not 100% an accident. Homelessness is a problem but that is a mental illness and addiction problem, not a jobs or money problem. Attitude is everything. If you don't like religion, find a nonreligious shelter... FYI: good luck.
There are shootings. Okay. That is a cultural problem. Life has value and that should be screamed from up high. People should shame violence out of existence. As you said, your mother taught you that there is no need for being out shooting reach other. That's cultural.
If you think Roanoke sucks, your attitude sucks! Roanoke is great!
I am 100% with you. The nothing to do is all over my channel in the comments if you look through them. Like I said in the video I've lived here my whole life I've never been shot at mugged robbed none of that but I'm also not out at all hours of the night either.
Roanoke doesn't suck. Shut up. I suppose you think cities like Chicago or Houston are better?
Did you watch the video?
Roanoke is a crap place to live. Landscape is beautiful but not a safe place at all. If you don't know it, its cause u don't want to know.
I do know and have lives in those places in Roanoke. I have never felt unsafe.
What is diversity like in Roanoke?
The majority here is white and black and a few Hispanics and asians
