AIR FRIED FALAFEL WITH A BLENDER

  • This video is all about air fried falafel. I'll be showing you how to make air fried falafels with a blender.
    Ingredients
    2 1/2 Dried chickpeas (32 falafel balls)
    Fresh parsley
    1 medium sized red onion
    2 large cloves of garlic
    1 tbsp paprika powder
    1 1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds
    1 tbsp baking soda (for fluffy and airy texture)
    1 tsp salt
    2 tbsp all purpose flour
    Step by step guide
    1. Soak chickpeas overnight (between 10-12 hours) in room temperature water. The chickpeas would have doubled in size. Rinse in clean water and use a strainer to get off excess water.
    2. Wash parsley , chop the onions and garlic.
    3. Add chickpeas, parsley, garlic, onion and a little bit of water to blender or food processor and blend. If you’re using a blender, add the chickpeas in bits so as not to overwhelm your blender. Blend until everything is broken down and the texture is coarse. Do not blend it finely.
    4. Transfer falafel paste/ mixture to a bowl , cover and refrigerate for an hour. Refrigerating the falafel mixture will help it hold together and easily form falafel patties.
    5. After refrigerating, add in paprika powder, whole cumin seeds, baking soda , salt, flour and combine.
    6. Scoop the falafel mixture with your hands and mould into desired size, you could also use a falafel scooper if you have one
    7. Preheat your air fryer to 200 degrees F ,lightly oil your air frier basket and place falafels in it, set the timer to 20 minutes
    8. After 10 minutes of cook time, give them a toss so as to ensure they are evenly cooked.
    9. Let it cool down
    10. You could freeze them for up to 2 months and let defrost or lightly warm them up in an air fryer or oven before eating.
    Tips
    ** Do not use canned/cooked chickpeas as your falafel will have a crumbly texture
    ** Make sure to refrigerate falafel paste before baking /air frying/deep frying as this will help the mixture hold better
    ** Remember to add baking soda for that fluffy texture.
