dude i am an engineer and would have trouble setting this car. People who say its overrated are just simply not willing to understand their specific condition of driving (type of road, layout, etc) so they thrash it. But this car is simply a masterpiece I love that porsche is giving us the hability to fully unlock the car's potenctial. Shoutout from Brazil James, we love you!
Was talking to some old rich guys son who said their dad was trying to figure out their next car to buy, I immediately said Porsche and they said they despised Porsche classic or modern and never would get one. I just don't get it. It's like thinking something is cheaper or less quality because more people talk about loving it, even when it's a high quality thing, I guess I don't know how else to understand the perspective.
@@LastAphelion I think its more of(imo)how obnoxiously glazed porsche is online as of currently. Specifically how diehards would downplay other brands as inferior or even call them straight up trash, which is pure elitist behaviour. Like the recent discourse over the Mustang GTD aiming to compete with or even beat the 992 GT3RS' lap time on the Nordschleife, hell even get close to or dethrone the 997 GT2RS' undefeated lap time on Nordschleife. Primarily because one, elitst's dislike anytime an opposing brand challenges porshce in motorsports or two, the general hate boner everyone gets from ford for anything they try or do. Shouldnt we appreciate that porsche has set a bar for other brands to try and compete with rather than downplay and disregard them and their efforts??? Nothing wrong with a little trashtalk, but it can go too far

That's not a video. It's a Movie. And it brings some tears of joy to my german eyes. Thank you Porsche! Thank you James! You found your perfect format with these passion filled & high quality Documentaries. I absolutely love it!
As a German, what is your take on the fact that James seemingly ignored the entire Porsche GT Motorsport Program which designs and produces all Porsche GT-series cars? He only focussed on the use of the RS badge by the Porsche GT program, and ignored the entirety of Porsche GT Motorsport.
I wasn't expecting that, but your channel quickly became my favorite channel on UA-cam right now. You talk about all the things that I'm interested in at the moment and you do it in such a fun and light way. Great job, keep it going.
James you were easily my favorite part of Donut, and if you didn't agree with the decisions being made I don't either. I still love donut, but this new channel will be thoroughly followed by me, and so many others like me.
Controversial take: The 996 series are beautiful cars, regardless of the headlights. The driving experience is incredible. And for sub 30k for a 911, it’s one of the best deals in 2024. This video is incredible also btw!
This week I watched my final Top Gear/Grand Tour… there truly is nothing else that could replace the story telling, comedic relief, and CARS. Until today, granted it’s only been a week that I have been feeling empty inside, but thank you James for telling stories and history like this. I know it won’t always be car related but this was my favorite video you have ever done! Keep it up! I can’t wait for what’s next with speeed!
This was absolutely incredible! Really brings me back to the days of Up To Speed. The amount of work that goes into these videos is insane and the editing is so eye catching. I have ADHD and this video held my attention for the entire 56 minutes! This is my favourite channel on UA-cam
Last comment, just finishing up the video. I 100% agree that the "overhyped" hate of the RS is mostly for clicks and from a misunderstanding of what the RS is supposed to be. The thing is meant to be as close to a full race car that you can drive home, it's not meant to be comfortable, easy to drive, and easy going.
it loses this point being way more expensive than tow rig + enclosed trailer + Porsche Cup car + a lot of tires. Oh, and it's kinda loses the point by being barely faster (or even slower at some tracks) than comfortable luxurious supercar with glorious v8 for 1/3 of a price, that have 1/3 of downforce as well (c8 z06 z07). So much for "muhhh but engineering".
@@maximborodyuk3773lmfao it literally destroys the C8 but okay bud. Also the C8 is hideous. I’ll take the RennSport beetle any day over a wannabe Ferrari, but I sincerely hope the ZR1 destroys that stupid Mustang GTD.
@@SparklingWalrus yeah, at some(!) tracks it's slightly faster than z06. Which to be expected from a track monster with 3x downforce, zero creature comforts, solid bushings everywhere - list goes on. Problem is, it's not on every track, and your "destroys" is like half a second on 2.5 minute lap (that is a referrence to Lightning Lap, for example). On other tracks it loses, like french magazine tests, or TH recent one. Ferrari did not invent mid-engine cars, neither they invented flat plane v8 (that was actually Cadillac). You can butthurt however you want, it doesn't change the facts and laptimes. Calling the GTD stupid is just showing your ignorance, noone would sell your gt3 jacked replica except Ford (for half the price of an actual gt3 car), especially in EV times. Why hating such an amazing car?
@@maximborodyuk3773 I’m not even talking about the engine despite Chevy copying a Ferrari engine, that’s besides my point. The C8 still looks like it was designed 10 years ago. It literally looks like an ugly version of a Ferrari 488 and the 488 isn’t even a partially attractive car. I’ll take the sport beetle any day over those strange design choices and the PDK is far superior than any other dual clutch on the market. I think you’re the one who’s ignorant and you clearly just listen to influencers who have zero track experience. You don’t have a clue what RennSport means for Porsche. Why the fuck does anyone need “creature comforts” for a car that was made for the track? Are you a moron? If you want creature comforts then go buy a turbo S. I’m sure the engineers who designed the damn thing are having a good laugh over your stupid comments. Also the Mustang GTD has proven nothing, they claim it will be a sub 7 minute time at the Nurburgring but that has yet to be seen. Also ford has been getting destroyed by Porsche in the WEC and IMSA. Nurburgring is the track that matters most because it is the most dangerous one
@maximborodyuk3773 I work at Willow Springs and watched a c8 trying to overtake a 15 year old Boxter for MANY laps.. granted the boxster was heavily modified and was being driven by a Porche racing school student, but still 😆 this was days ago btw.
Thanks James! As I am involved in the manufacturing of these machines it was very nice to see this love letter of a video. Such authentic, enthusiastic declarations of love for our cars show me that it is worth all the effort and have honestly warmed my little engineer's heart. I will show the video to my colleagues. Thanks man!
Never apologize for the long run times. We are here for that sweet sweet quality you mentioned at the end of this video. We cant have it if its left on the cutting room floor. James, you're a legend. I enjoyed every second of this video. I had it playing while working and it just scratched an itch in my brain I haven’t felt since your OG Donut days. I’ve been a long time BMW fan, but this video is whats finally made me come to respect Porsche to their fullest extent as well
Something you missed. The 996.1 GT3 actually did have a variant called the GT3 RS. The 996.1 GT3 RS was a race car built for privateers. The factory raced the GT3 R, and privateers were sold the GT3 RS. Porsche created the 996.2 GT3 RS primarily to homologate changes to the front suspension for racing. At that point the name of the race cars changed from RS to RSR. Since they were the race cars that utilized the road going RS’s front suspension modifications
Pretty important detail. Also another important detail; a privateer was a type of state-sanctioned pirate in wartimes. I think you just mean 'private people' or in this case you'd call them the public. Unless it was exclusively sold to pirates who engage in state-sanctioned maritime warfare in which case I retract everything
the speach at 45:15 brought a tear to my eye as an engineer. thats exactly how perfection happens. you dont make perfection trying to please *people* perfection isn't subjective. it doesn't care what anyone thinks about it. *it knows* and it doesn't appologize. thanks for the inspiration 🙏

Did James just succeed in making me enjoy an ad in a video having me watch a whole ad for the first time? He sure did! Speeed is the best channel on youtube period.
I started this video with the mindset of "I'll watch until I get bored cuz I don't really care for Porsche." And now the 992 GT3 RS is my favorite modern car. Thanks James!!
That screen at 3:00 is awesome. I paused there by accident, but ended up appreciating everything about it. I hope that stays a permanent staple for all Speeed "EYNTK" videos until the end of time.
It's been awesome to see you, much like a Porsche engineer, refine your product over the years into something truly special. James! Congratulations Sir. For ONCE, You're actually telling me about production cars that I don't know about. From the 550 to 911 I've got a HUGE empty space in my head. I'm 45yrs old & Porsche is my favorite since 1985. That's when Dad sold his Bradley GT from Key West SCCA
That was incredible. It was like being in a college lecture hall hall with that goofy professor that made every subject he taught fun and exciting. Keep up the good work
Man I watched all the 56 minutes like it was a 20min long video, you could've made it even longer and I would still have watched it with full enthusiasm. Thank you!
James, revisit the Iacocca Dodge Era. We need some 80s Mopar love. GLH, GLHS, Charger 2.2, Daytona Irocs, minivans, cupholders, Jim Wangers, Shelby, all leading up to the Viper and SRT 4.
This video is frickin great! As a long time 911 Porsche owner (5 early 911’s, two Boxsters, a 997 and a current 356 and 991) this is both entertaining and accurate. The rabbit hole detail is terrific. This video must have taken as much time as a Weissach engineer spent on measuring air intake volumes….ie. a lot. Well done
One thing about the 964 RS America is that, even though it seems less focused than EU RS, it's still a true RS at the core. Not only is it 10K less than a regular C2, but it still has a True RS engine, gearbox, suspension, and brakes and retains some lightweight bits to make it more raw than a regular US 911

Jesse, dude, the editing and production on the 911 shelf section at around 14:00 is simply sublime. You're one of the best producers in the game and don't you forget it big man!
appreciate it man
Dude… Jesse James?!? Coincidence… yeah probably.
bro im so happy to see you back on my screen man. I didn't even know you had this channel till last night and i've been in a funk honestly but seeing you get up there and get into it has been nice
also, I've always thought porsches were boring but i love watching you get excited about em
These videos are top notch even the ads are on another level. Better done than tv shows.
Should we make a tv show?
Nah I don’t watch tv. Stay on UA-cam.
I watch UA-cam on tv
Tv shows are just to over produced it would be the same as what you left from, no freedom. But I’m just one guy. You guys are way smarter than me I’ll watch anything you make.
@@SpeeedCo yeees please
dude i am an engineer and would have trouble setting this car. People who say its overrated are just simply not willing to understand their specific condition of driving (type of road, layout, etc) so they thrash it. But this car is simply a masterpiece I love that porsche is giving us the hability to fully unlock the car's potenctial.
Shoutout from Brazil James, we love you!
Indeed, not overrated, but a truly magnificent machine!
I'm only 7 minutes into the video and it feels so much like the old Donut that I so much love and miss! You hit the nail on the head, and I'm here for it!
It’s like old Donut if James Pumphrey was the CEO
This type of video is perfect! To the guy that loves to know everything you possibly can about cars, you help a lot! Killing it!!
And you got a sponsor already! This going to be a good venture on your own broski. Happy for y'all and glad to have you back in videos back :)
You already know!

Best of luck on this new journey. And good for you losing that weight and getting healthier
I absolutely love the long format. Important details don’t get missed, interesting facts don’t get glossed over, and the jokes stay consistently funny. 10/10
I agree. James gave life, charisma, and energy to their videos, and now he made it his own. Keep on bringing it on James. We missed you.
Same reasons Jobe & Jeremy and Henry left. The projects/content these boys are churning out are insane
Controversial take: The 996 series are beautiful cars, regardless of the headlights. The driving experience is incredible. And for sub 30k for a 911, it’s one of the best deals in 2024.
This video is incredible also btw!
Magnus walker said the same thing
This week I watched my final Top Gear/Grand Tour… there truly is nothing else that could replace the story telling, comedic relief, and CARS. Until today, granted it’s only been a week that I have been feeling empty inside, but thank you James for telling stories and history like this. I know it won’t always be car related but this was my favorite video you have ever done! Keep it up! I can’t wait for what’s next with speeed!
One of the best videos you've made so far (all Up To Speed videos included) 😁👍
Thanks man!
The whole time I was watching this, I was thinking “I hope this makes it to a Porsche engineer”. And here you are. Thanks for doing god’s work!
What an Epic video!!
Madd Props to SPEEED, for having the highest audience retention in UA-cam history.
Never apologize for the long run times. We are here for that sweet sweet quality you mentioned at the end of this video. We cant have it if its left on the cutting room floor. James, you're a legend. You're looking healthy as well brother. Glad we are all on this Speeed journey together. Very exciting to watch Speeed and Big Time makin moves out here.
I got chills when James said : ''This is everything you need to know to get up to speed'' The good old James videos are back and better than ever. I love you dude!
Intro, editing, and James' delivery is so very good. The production vales on display here are just perfection.
I enjoyed every second of this video. I had it playing while working and it just scratched an itch in my brain I haven’t felt since your OG Donut days. I’ve been a long time BMW fan, but this video is whats finally made me come to respect Porsche to their fullest extent as well
Up to speed with less yelling. Love it. Good job James.
13:57 amazing editing right here. It's so seamless watching Tiny James walk
@@mikkeldisch7374 in Motorsports, a privateer is a privately run team. A team that is not an official representation of a manufacturer
the speach at 45:15 brought a tear to my eye as an engineer.
thats exactly how perfection happens. you dont make perfection trying to please *people*
perfection isn't subjective. it doesn't care what anyone thinks about it. *it knows* and it doesn't appologize.
thanks for the inspiration 🙏
Honestly, best video Ive seen on YT in a long time. The passion, the production level, the research, everything. I have so much faith in James and everyone behind Speeed. This is an amazing sign for a new breath of life into this platform.
James, 1h long videos are the bomb. These go dummy hard while eating or winding down and having you go into so much detail over a topic you're clearly passionate about is awesome. Keep them coming!
Ngl, I’m digging the longer episode. For one it you kept it entertaining and informative, to the point it didn’t feel like an hour passed. There’s nothing worse than finishing up a doc and feeling like you still missed something, this episode didn’t leave me feeling like I missed anything there. Thank you for the great content there good sir.
This is why we stick with you James. Hearing you discuss design and automotive history is calming to my soul. GodSpeed sir.
If Porsche doesn’t give you a car for this, we should all riot.
This is one of the best marketing pieces I’ve seen for a car model.
Oh yeah, totally, the people who can afford one but didn't buy one for some reason will totally change their mind after a youtuber making videos for Gen Z told them too
They should do it for the love and passion tbh @@20cent

Up To Speed was my favorite bit when you were with Donut, and now that they’re more in depth, it’s only gotten better. I love your channel, thanks for being my car daddy
Loved James' work at Donut. I'm so glad we get his real unfiltered content shining now. It's honestly the channel I dreamed of seeing.
Yay, James is talking about cars!
+1
It's been awesome to see you, much like a Porsche engineer, refine your product over the years into something truly special. This really captured the emotion I personally feel behind the cars that I've tuned and modified over years to fit my needs. I don't know why this video made me tear up but I do know the next time I start the engine on my one-of-one car, I'll be thinking of how this video made me feel. Thanks James.
lol yeah, when he added the part of "YOU" made me feel more connected to the story. Great work. My eyes got a bit watery when he got to the end with that lol
These videos are just an absolute masterpiece. 56 minutes and 56 seconds of pure perfection. Even the ad was perfectly done. I could never say enough how glad i am that you guys made your own channel. Now I gotta get busy on saving up for the rest of my life to buy a 992 GT3 RS.
