They were heavy duty dish gloves. Anything that seems sufficient enough for keeping the heat off your hands directly should work.
i bought tons of jumbo braid hair and never used it! these videos helped a lot! i learned a good few methods to do dreads! dont have a steamer so this and the flat iron ill experiment with, thank you for these!
Yes, in all of our sealing videos, sealing always follows backcombing. Sorry, we need to update these to make that explicit. :)
Kanekalon will not lock up like normal hair. You will need to seal them somehow, and over time you will probably need to seal them again.
Thank you, the hot water seems quicker than steaming them.
Thanks Doc! How do you find these hold up over time compared to traditional twist and seal methods?
Thanks for the video! How hot does the water have to be?
No, this method is only for synthetic fibers. We do have lots of videos on human hair dreadlocks though. :)
any advice on how to install them and make them look more natural than seeing the sections/braids? *i already commented similarly to another video before i found this one. please feel free to disregard one of them :)
+ahsandworms because some people just don't want to get real dreads but they want dreads so they can make or buy synthetic dreads and braid them in!
how long will these stay sealed? i want to attach kanekalon dread extensions to my real dreads for permanent wear. should i seal them or will should i just let them lock up like normal hair?
does this work with human hair extensions??
can this method be used for double ended dreads too? and how well do they hold up without being twisted as well? I like the look of these more than the twisted ones since these look more realistic, but I'm worried they'll come undone through wear and tear.
Yep! I do it all the time for doubles - you just have to make sure to use a low temp fiber (I recommend our KK Smooth Seal as it is highly responsive) and also that your backcombing gives you enough traction - aka no stray hairs that are trying to find their way off of your dread. As long as you have both of those things in check, they will be great.
What kind of gloves are these? o.O
I will try this methode ! Also I wanted to know how long does the dreads have to stay in the boiling water ? More it stay in water more it is seal or it makes no difference ?
No difference - once the fiber heats up (which is pretty instantly), its the cooling that sets the shape. :)
My rotisserie came with heat gloves. They’d be perfect. I’m still scared to do this. I’d probably melt the rubber bands and they’d all fall out. 🤣
I don’t mind the stiffness. I like the look.
Those would work! lol. I would suggest trying this before you install them :)
@ahsandworms haters gonna hate!!
Do you use only Bolling water?
Thanks goddes =D
I made my dreads double sealed and they are going loose after 2 days of wear did I not back comb enough? or should I try this
+Doctored Locks I didn't boil them I sprayed them w water and used my flat iron and I also steamed them w a wet cloth too but they are still unraveling. I think a brush back combing isn't as effective.. idk
Is that raw synth fiber without backcombing? It just looks like undreaded fiber put into boiling water..
Nope, its backcombed and solid.
