He confronts that in different way by the end of each Route, Fate/Saber Route included, just that the basis of his ideals remain mostly unshaken by the end of it, but he as a person and the way he sees them have indeed changed.

the main heroine route is basically what a lot harem protag are afraid of, like for instance ichika from I.S. throughout the anime he was shown as a dense protag, but further on if you read the light novel or some of the manga, it was shown that he was acting dense because, he was afraid if he chose 1 girl the rest will act cold to him, just like what happened in this episode, that's why people should start reading the manga or the light novel to start understanding the main character, don't just judge based on the anime, based it on the real source.
