They are monsters basically, in Fate-lore Shuten-Douji is said to be a demon on the same scale as the true Tamamo-no-Mae, and seeing that Tamamo is basically a goddess that should tell you in what power range we are talking here. The lore of Shuten-douji basically states that she (he in real-life but whatever) was the leader of the Onis of Japan and spent his time in life kidnapping women and massacring villages, making him as feared as the Shapeshifting nine-tailed Fox Spirit Tamamo-no-Mae (who was feared as having bewitched and tricked several emperors in China,India and Japan). Anyway SHuten-Douji is supposed to be the strongest due to being the leader of all Oni's although Ibaraki-Douji is basically just as powerful. Anyway, back on the Half-demon clans subject. The Tohno Clan are a family that made deals with the Oni in medieval times and in exchange had half-breed descendants with them. It's actually horrifying when you think about it because unlike Shiki Ryougi from Kara no Kyoukai, he can't turn his power off.
There was a poll in Japan when the dating meeting between Shirou and Shiki to see what ending the fans wanted. The ending that was chosen was the harem route but this is the episode that would have aired if the "choose the main heroine" route was chosen and thus became a bonus OVA.
