Yeah, Oregon has natural beauty. The bad parts are the cities where it's nothing but homeless camps, druggies, and criminals. Oregon, and most of the American West Coast are no longer looked at as great tourist destinations by people, even by international tourists around the world.
@@TheDailyWoo I visited Astoria last summer. I think that Jeep getaway vehicle in front of the jail is the actual screen used vehicle, not a replica. The building is now a film history museum.
@@TheDailyWoo I have some other shared interests with the new owner of The Goonies house. We met in 2018 while running neighboring booths at a convention. He'll use the house like a second home part of the year, and plans to embrace The Goonies history. He was talking with an engineer about recreating the gate opening contraptions. Just like in the movie, visitors will need to do the truffle shuffle to get through the gate.
The summer The Goonies came out, my mom must've taken my brother and I to see it 4 or 5 times. To this day, it's still one of my favorites movies. Thank you for the stroll down memory lane!

Astoria Oregon is BEAUTIFUL! The view of the beach from up high doesn't look real, it just looks too beautiful to be real. A truly beautiful place to live.
I was there last June 2022. Work sent me to Oregon for 2 weeks, so over the weekend I spent there in Astoria. I got so many pics of that area. While I was there a woman that was in the house across the street from the jail wouldn't tell me exactly where the Goonies house was. Then I remembered the scene where Mikey is depressed about losing the house and you can see the elementary school from Kindergarten Cop in the background really fast. I had been to that elementary school before so I went back. And when I passed the school you could only turn left to head back down to the main road. Low and behold, the house was right in front of me! It was like finding the Holy Grail! Great video Adam! I want to go back so much now! :)
I visited the Goonie's house back in 2010, before the previous owner started getting really strict about people visiting. She actually used to embrace fans showing up, but once the movie celebrated the 25th anniversary, there was a huge uptick in people visiting, and some of them did not respect her privacy (knocking on the door and wanting to come inside, peeking through windows, etc.) and she finally had enough. At one point she even hung large tarps over the front and sides of the house to hide it from view, and even posted a sign at the bottom of the drive-way, warning people not to come up to see the house or the police would be called.
It was so contagious to see your reaction when you got out to the beach especially but all the other sites as well. I'm definitely re-watching Goonies tonight!!!
I was born in '91, so i didn't get to experience the 80's, but this film is one of my all time favorites. Such a great coming of age adventure. And Astoria is absolutely a vibe. Thanks for the vlog. Really enjoyed it.

He is a HUGE fan of the movie and so it's pretty exciting for him and all of us who grew up around that time to have him restore the house to all it's glory from back in the day.
I was hoping you'd document the locations. We visited several of them last summer (2022). Beautiful town! By the way, the entire Oregon coast is simply stunning.
Nice one Adam!! So fun to see you in my hometown! Born and raised in Astoria, I was 12 when Goonies was filmed there. The actors/kids in the movie lived there for months. They came to our school a couple of times and I remember watching them film a few times. Thanks for the great video. There are so many hidden gems and great places to explore, if you ever need a local guide. I’ve been watching your videos for years, thank you for all your cool and funny content. Travel safely!!
Hey, I've just stumbled on your comment about living in Astoria. It's lovely to see a comment from an Astorian. What a beautiful place to live! I am really curious about Astoria during the months of filming. You say the actors all lived there for those months but did the townsfolk know where? Did the cast and crew all stay in a hotel or did they rent out flats and houses?
@@neverwise Astoria is truly a special place. There is a reason why more than 200 films have been made around the area. There is a fun Film Museum in the old Jail where they filmed the beginning scenes of Goonies. The actors lived in rented homes and I believe a couple of them lived with local families. Some of them were pretty young. I remember the actors doing local things at the schools and during shooting you could watch from the blocked off street. The house was up on the hill, obviously, and I remember watching the scene where Rosalita is trying to cross the street during the police chase in the beginning, which is only a couple blocks from the actual Goonies house. Astor Elementary is 4 blocks from the Goonies house and is where Kindergarten Cop was filmed. Arnold was in town for a while too. A bunch of my high school friends worked on the set and getting painting, landscaping done, etc. Pretty cool. You MUST visit! Going the summer or early fall.
@@doves9204 There is tons of first come first serve camping around the area and up and down the coast. Fort Stevens is the big state park near Astoria and is very cool with a beach with an old shipwreck, big campground with yurts, bike trails, beach and lake within walk/bike distance. The Oregon Coast is expensive for sure. Warrenton and Seaside are pretty close to Astoria and might be able to find a cheaper airbnb. Seaside is kind of plastic, typical tourist, beach-boardwalk, elephant ears, arcade. Super crazy at spring break sort of town but right on beach. Warrenton is low key small town between Astoria and Seaside, just over the bridge, nothing fancy but close to everything and especially beaches and activities at the State park. Enjoy
This is so awesome and I love it that the new owners are Goonies! PNW at its best! Thank you Adam for these last couple of videos of Seattle and Goonies locations!!
I lived in west Oregon for three years recently. Just moved back home across the country for family reasons. Trying to get back out there at some point. Truly a magical area.
Probably known many time over, but Astoria Oregon is such a beautiful sea side fishing town and of course famous for The Goonies! Hope some day to pay an homage to in person and do the Truffle Shuffle. 🤣 Great vid as always Adam, keep up the good find and share it to the world!
This is so awesome! On a road trip we went from Disneyland to Seattle and stopped by Astoria to see Goonies locations once. Luckily it was before the previous house owners stopped allowing Goonies fans.
I can confirm that you got it right about the former location of the abandoned restaurant at Ecola State Park built as a set piece for The Goonies. This park was also the location of the school fair featured in Kindergarten Cop. My son was an extra in that film.
It's great to see so many businesses and the new owner of the Goonies house still embrace the film. One part that I always wondered about The Goonies is if Chunk ran it by his parents first if it would be cool if Sloth lived with them or did he just surprise them with that when they all went home?
Best video from the Woo yet! Such a part of many of our lives,,,could recite this movie word for word. Love that bowling alley! And how they embrace the Goonies!
YES! You made it to Oregon, welcome! You still need to check out the Enchanted Forrestx just south of Salem Oregon. They don't open for the season until March 24th though.
OMGOSH I live in Seaside, you are one of my favorite you-tubers ! If I saw you in public I'm afraid I wouldn't be cool, I would go all fangirl lolol....If you have time and are still around, you should vlog the river walk. It's pretty cool, but admittedly cooler when the weather is nicer. Have fun on our north coast !
I was a 10 year old Asian girl watching The Goonies in 1986 on network tv. In retrospect and in hindsight, it was so great to see Ke Huy Quan as a Goonie. And to know he had a special relationship with Steven Spielberg all these years. And to see his recent success. ❤ This movie is so rewatchable...so funny, adventurous, touching, and great story of friendship. Also loved the setting. This is pretty cool.❤
I live pretty locally in Portland but just also recently went back to pay homage now that the house has changed hands. Just FYI - If you actually DO line up the rocks to the screenshot of the kids coming over the ridge (where you are at the 24 minute mark) - the camera is actually a little further down the pathway, not where that barrier is. I made the same mistake when I went, and only later realized when I compared my photos at home! :D Hope you went to see the SHort Circuit home too - its now an AirBnB and has been re-painted to the movie colors. (it was also bought by a fan who embraces the nostalgia)
I tried to go see the house last March but the old owner was in charge of the place. So glad to see there's a new owner. And Astoria is a gorgeous place all together.
Oregon is such an interesting and beautiful place. I sort of like the pro vs anti Goonies neighborhood conflict. It just adds to the lore of this amazing film.
THIS I Will put on my Save list simply because I saw this just after getting out of College and being one of the 1st movies I got on VHS and DVD AND shown to my family several times a year since then. One of my favorite Kid movies of all time! Dang, that was so GOOOOOOOOD! 👍🏽
In 2016 we did California/Oregon road trip and we took a rather long detour to Astoria as we were so ‘close’ . I think we drove 6 hours. Astoria is beautiful but the main truffle shuffle house was covered in tarp and I mean covered because the owners had clearly had enough of people trying to recreate the truffle shuffle on their property. With that being said we still thought it was worth it.
Those people tried to embrace the Goonie vibe but so many people camping in their yard, leaving garbage, and just being disrespectful caused them to change their view. Hopefully people won't ruin it this time.

He is a HUGE fan of the movie and so it's pretty exciting for him and all of us who grew up around that time to have him restore the house to all it's glory from back in the day.
I haven't heard you so excited and happy to do a filming location video in a very long time! Thanks for the hard work to make our days more enjoyable!
agree
Went their with my family last year! Loved Astoria! It’s so beautiful there!
I was hoping you'd document the locations. We visited several of them last summer (2022). Beautiful town! By the way, the entire Oregon coast is simply stunning.
I am fortunate to live here in Astoria. Glad you dug our town !
It looks like a great place to live
Enjoy
Really enjoyed this video. Wow, that beach area is awesome! Great job showing the backdrop of an iconic movie.
Yes!! I was soo excited to see this location! Thanks Adam! We love the 80s!
I was at the Goonies house back in September last year. It’s been my all time favorite movie since 1989!
This is so awesome! On a road trip we went from Disneyland to Seattle and stopped by Astoria to see Goonies locations once. Luckily it was before the previous house owners stopped allowing Goonies fans.
So much to see in Oregon! Hope Your travels continue in this state
Brilliant Adam, I wondered when you were going to get round to doing the Goonies film locations. You never disappoint !!!!!
One of my favorite movies! Thank you!
I can confirm that you got it right about the former location of the abandoned restaurant at Ecola State Park built as a set piece for The Goonies. This park was also the location of the school fair featured in Kindergarten Cop. My son was an extra in that film.
Very cool !
These are the best videos. Classic Woo showing something really cool from a cult classic on a trip in Oregon. I miss videos like these. Thank you.
It's great to see so many businesses and the new owner of the Goonies house still embrace the film.
One part that I always wondered about The Goonies is if Chunk ran it by his parents first if it would be cool if Sloth lived with them or did he just surprise them with that when they all went home?
Neither.
He surprised them right there on the beach with the news.
I am living for this tour! I saw the movie at least 5 times when it was in the theaters when I was a kid!
Yes...I've been waiting for this episode for years!!!
Thanks Adam!
Timberline Lodge is also nearby.
Thanks Adam, so nice to have you in the Neighborhood
OMGOSH I live in Seaside, you are one of my favorite you-tubers ! If I saw you in public I'm afraid I wouldn't be cool, I would go all fangirl lolol....If you have time and are still around, you should vlog the river walk. It's pretty cool, but admittedly cooler when the weather is nicer. Have fun on our north coast !
One of my most favorite movies ever!!!!!! Love this!
It's hard to pick a favorite Goonies character, but I think Mouth and Chunk are my favorite. Mouth had some of the best lines in the movie.
Pure nostalgia of childhood. Never say die woo, you're a true goonie.
The shot you took of the waves crashing against the rocks, with the sea mist all around was awesome - just like in the movie. So cool!
I was 17 when Goonies came out. I remember skipping work to go see it. Work was not happy when I finally showed up. LOL
Good job Adam! with the filming locations of the Goonies. Grew up in the 80's myself, this is one of my favorite movies from that decade. There was a lot of good movies from then. This one is at the top of the list with E.T., Back to the Future, and Poltergeist! As you can tell I'm a huge Speilberg fan. Goonies Never Die!
