Have you got a link to that canopy model? I'm interested in getting a pac man frog and this is one of the only videos I've seen that doesn't recommend a heat mat. Heat mats are no use to me as my house can be a bit chilly. I can't seem to find a canopy that has space for the heater under it as well as the uv tubes. Great channel by the way. Your vids made me change the way I was keeping my royal python and she seems a lot more content now. Nova thanks you!
I don’t think the canopy’s are in production anymore. This enclosure and canopy are about 15 years old (maybe a bit more). The other option would be to use an Arcadia canopy and then have additional heat.
Great video, I've got my enclosure set up, just got to wait to find a frog (there only seems to be albino's around). 1 question I had was about substrate changes - as they defecate and urinate in the soil a large percentage of the waste will be dealt with by the clean-up crew. But they will not deal with all of it, so harmful (as well as beneficial) bacteria will start to breed. Similarly, toxins such as ammonia will also start to build up. Now I know some ammonia will be processed by bacteria similar to the ones in fish tanks, and some will be absorbed by plants, but again it will start to build up. How often do you do a full substrate change? And as the clean-up crew are a part of the substrate, how on earth do you transfer enough of them to continue dealing with the frog waste?
Great question! Firstly, with the correct selection of clean up crew they will deal with pretty much all of the waste! Bacteria need something to feed on, and with a good level of clean up crew, that window of time is very very small! That being said, you’re right, there will be a very small build up over time. I’d say in a bio enclosure it’s good to refresh the soil every year or so to keep your levels low. That would just involve scooping out the soil where the plant roots don’t spread to and topping up with fresh.
Sorry, one more thing, what bedding do you recommend? Also, can juveniles be kept together - if not I have the tanks set up just would be useful if I could co-hab them
I’d recommend Arcadia earth pro for them. Honestly wouldn’t recommend cohabiting if you can avoid it. These frogs eat anything that moves. So they will end up biting each other
Do you think some of the stuff is a bit ott? Example. Rain water contains chemicals they can soak in. Different smells. Chemicals in soils even in the wild. Not a dig. Genuine question. Thanks
Depends how far you want to go to be honest! Animals die young in the wild, frequently. Not limited to, but including the reasons you’ve listed. In captivity, my approach is to limit as many risks of illness etc as I can :) So it might seem a little OTT, but it sucks when a pet dies and you find out it was preventable yunno?
Hi! I am planning on getting a pacman frog and I’ve got my tank all set up. Only problem, I’m struggling to heat the tank past 74 degrees Fahrenheit... 😢 Is that room temperature okay for them? I don’t wanna get one if it will be too cold... Thanks! (Yes. I have a heat map on the side.)
Avoid heat mats, they’re pretty rubbish at providing decent warmth or heat gradient, add a deep heat projector overhead if you’re worried about it being too cold 🙂

Exultant video : you covered everything; no questions needed.
Hey man my frog poops in his water bowl, its not just your frog 😂
*Im looking at you Hallam*
Great video! I'm taking in 11 pacman frogs along with some other amphibians on Thursday so this was great!
Ah super! Thanks!
hope you didn't put them in the same tank they're cannibals
Awesome video! I’m not really into amphibians but it’s definitely good to watch and learn 👍
Thanks mate!
Great video as always!
Whats the substrate mixture made out of? I need to find a good mixture to use in my tropical enclosures.
Cheers!
It’s the Arcadia earth pro. But if you’re interested in the tropical substrate mix I use for my snakes, check out my recent substrate video
Thanks! Will do!

How do you fit the heat lamp and u/v?
Do you have any pictures?

Great video learn some stuff since now I have a pacman as well.. mine only eat crickets, I try superworms n earthworms nothing
Haha weird! Usually they’ll eat anything that moves 😂
@@JensensReptiles exactly that I heard lol but not mine only crickets

Great question by the way!
How long did he stay in the 30 cm cube for and what sort of heating did you provide for it ?
He was in the 30cm cube for a few months, with a low level UVB bulb. The bulb provided enough heat at the time
Is it true that they live for 15 years in captivity with proper care?
Yep, they can do!
@@JensensReptiles what about the fantasy pacman frogs?

amateur way to keep pacman frogs but i like your uk style
I’d love to learn more to improve the set up. Have you got any suggestions?
