Right on time. I just picked mine up from a local reptile expo today. Excited to watch him do nothing :)
They are awesome to watch I will say haha. Even though it’s anticlimactic somehow they still give so much personality
i like watching my off shrooms
Good timing for me to come across this video, I recently got a baby Pacman Frog from Petco yesterday. He's very cute and I love him!
Congrats on your new baby!
I had my pacman frog for 2 years i named him toad . Since he was a baby i had him in water the day i put dirt into his tank he was not feeling it at all😭 pacman frogs got a personality to them i got videos of him when hes upset. In chill mode. In haunt mode and so much more! Don't let there rock days fool u! They can be active to
Oh yeah every Pac-Man is different for sure I agree.
They definitely change up during hunt mode you can tell the difference it’s awesome!
This video was amazing! I’m getting my first Pacman for my birthday and this video was exactly what I needed! Thanks 😊
Thank you happy to help!
Me too! I already got the tank and everything it needs from the reptile store. If you already got the Pacman then can you tell what it's like to have one?
I am a newbie to the hobby. Am considering a Pacman frog. Have been watching a bunch of videos for research. Your video has been the most detailed, helpful one yet!!! Thank you so much for making this. Appreciate you!
I’m happy I helped! Thank you
Pet rock you gotta feed lol love mine
Haha same the best pet rock!
Is it fine to only feed pacman frogs only soft food's like pacman Frog Food that comes ready, or do they need crickets and roaches and other insects, because i am not 100% sure on how to feed them, i have been wondering this for a while if they can eat just foods that come ready like soft food bites for pacman frog's
Any other kinds of frogs you would recommend to live with a pacman?
None as pacmans will eat anything they can fit in there mouth including other pacmans
Do you suggest adding bioshot or a cleanup crew to the bioactive tank if I am spot cleaning? How often do you do a full changeout of substrate? Thank you for your knowledge and videos, it has really helped me setup our new frog baby’s terrarium.
I have an extra tank and im considering buying a pacman frog, do they need a heat lamp? Im already using alot of electricity with my gecko & chameleon
Im thinking about getting one myself.. Just got to get the ok from hubby lol. I have a bearded dragon, a cat, and puppy... so he is a bit worried about it.
I just picked up my first Pac-Man frog yesterday and now after watching your awesome video I went on Amazon and spent $140 for hides plants and what not lol
Haha nice! That’s how it goes. I lve done that many times as well
Hey, thank you for this video! And it is super useful for you to have a amazon page with all the stuff. But I got one question. You say you can mix 25% of the reptisand with the 10 qt. bag of reptisoil. Are you talking about the 10 pound bag of reptisand? So you would mix 25% of the 10 pound Reptisand bag with the whole 10 qt. of Reptisoil?
Exactly right!
everyone saying cocofiber never molds, mine always molds. and I am allergic to it. it hurts my hands so much
Same! Mine always molded as soon as it got wet. Its the worst haha
Just got our first pet rock yesterday, and I’d have to say our enclosure looks pretty cool! Thank you!
Congratulations 🎉
Awesome video, thank you for this! I pick up my Pacman frog today!
Happy to help!
My new Pac-Man frog is loving their enclosure. Cheeseburger (pretty sure she’s a girl) has a fun bioactive terrarium with a real fox skull. I’m adding new plants in soon and I’m loving it. Essentially, terrarium plus pet rock frog lol.
That’s awesome! Happy to hear cheeseburger has a awesome home
made am impulse decision to get one today knowing that i know nothing about them this helped so much i really appreciate your honest and personal opinions about what works compared to what you prefer VERY EXCITED TO BE A FROG MOM THANK YOU !!!!
Same lol I’d send a picture but not sure I can 😅
i just got a purple phantom mutant so he even looks like a pet rock lol
it worries me when he eats crickets and worms he ingests the substrate. Is this bad? Substrate is coco and reptisoil
Anytime mine did did they just pooped it out
Hey there. My baby is always buried and doesn’t really come up to be fed. Any recs on what to do?
It could be too hot sometimes this can also happen when it’s too cold double check the temps
Can I put a baby straight into a 40, or do they have to be in something smaller until they are bigger?
You can go straight into a 40 but might just have to tong feed it. Tbh I always tong feed myself haha
I've only had my pacman frog for 1 week now, it's only 1 inch big and im not sure if I'm doing it right with the care and all, but it hasn't eaten in 3 days and im not sure if that's ok or not, given it's still a baby, im thinking it's a bad thing and I don't know what to do. I've watched a few videos on how to care for pacman frogs and it's either im over doing it, or not doing it right for it not to eat. 😅🥲 I hope i dont kill it though. 🙏🏼
haha the coco fibre hate was NOT expected ! lol
Haha. I have beef with coco fiber
@@ChiefSweetsUniverseI don’t have money bruh
we just rescued one and ive got no idea what we are doing!! she or he wont eat and we have done tons of substraite, the frogs hiding alot. but wont eat
Try getting temps up to the 80s not high 80s but kid 80s and that should get him to eat. Warmer temps usually will make them eat
never ever ever put something from outside in ur animals tank.
at least that’s how i feel
That’s understandable but it is important to know lots of wood leaves and other natural decor isn’t cleaned from pet shops and it comes from outside as well
Can you pick them up in the day
My nephew Isaac likes frogs just doesn't know yet soil with frogs is like if you don't like eating vegetables pretend airplane or train then soon they will be excited
Hi...
Actually should I need a uvb for my Pacman frog ?
And if yes then how many hours should I keep the uvb on ?
Thank you! You really helped me with making my decision!!
Happy to help
Hello, this video is so helpful! I have been thinking about getting either a pacman frog or a budgett's frog. Although the one thing that's been holding me back is the cost and also I live with my parents and my dad is very sensitive and allergic to many things. You mentioned the soil to use and how much moisture they need. I think I could use fake plants to avoid any extra smells or mold. But I was wondering: Does keeping these frogs smell at all? Would getting a budgett's frog be a better option for me? I heard they don't need as much dry land, and more water. Would you have any advice for the care of budgett's frogs? Thank you so much!
On
I’m hoping you reply to this. My Pac-Man frog has an open wound on his head, should I put substrate in his tank or leave it bare for a while?
I would leave it in a bare tank to make sure he doesn’t get a infection
Also see if you can see a vet as well
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse i unfortunately cannot get him to a vet. I don’t have one close to me nor do I have the money for one.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse I put medication on him that is safe to use on frogs. So hopefully he pulls through
Patrick didnt have a rock he had a pac-man frog
Haha
this is such an awesome video. good job!!!
Thank you
It looks like you're using the Reptizoo dimming thermostat. Have you done a review on this? Also, have you used DHP or only CHE? If both, do you prefer the CHE and why? Thanks!
Would a 60x30x30 cm or a 24x12x12 inch enclosure be big enough for an adult pacman frog?
WHat about using just distilled water by its self for them?
Coconut dirt is so dry. Just absolutely terrible 😭
Let’s go! I’m down for the coco fiber hate 😂 I hate it so much
@ChiefSweetsUniverse I'm really looking to get retisoil for my other frog because I used it and realized like GOD THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER.
i bought a pacman a week ago from a local pet store it fairly small can easily fit in your palm. temps 77 to 79. humidity 60 to 70% and bio planted tank plenty of cover with leaves and plants the 3 sides covered and well its not eating doesnt matter that i try to feed him and never seen him eat im at a loss on what to do. i always try to feed him at 9pm or so when everything has had lights out.
Have you tried some nightcrawlers? They really like those. Also you could try increasing temps to around lower mid 80s. 83f maybe 85f max to see if that will kick up his appetite.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse i will try them both wish me luck.
@@Frog_Anarchy good luck!
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse little update he finally ate! but it was crickets and thats all he wants so now I need to figure out how to make him less picky.
Can i not use heat bulb?
If your house is already warm or the enclosure sits above 80f totally don’t have to use one
What I would do for my crickets was to buy them. Keep them in a separate critter carrier with egg crate and toilet paper rolls. I would also feed them fruit and vegetable scraps. I would have a rotation of two separate cricket containers. So essentially I knew the crickets I was feeding were well fed and gut loaded.
That’s the way to do it!
Okay I have a question because I never see my Pac-Man frog eat and he’s so skinny but it’s already been a year so idk he goes in his pond a lot so he’s getting water so idk I check on him at night he rarely comes out he’s so small and skinny so idk-
Also should they have 1 light? Or 2 lights? Bc I heard that they tend to not do a lot if it’s to cold and I check his tank it’s kinda cold so I’m just wondering sorry if I sound stupid I’m a kid 😅
Make sure it’s not too cold. I do two lights. Heating and uvb.
I can send a picture of the exact light not sure if this is the 1 I actually have
How much vertical space does a Pac-Man need? I have a 20 gallon long aquarium (30x12x12) so if I put in 5 inches of substrate that will only leave him 7 inches of vertical space. Will that be enough, or should I get a different tank for him
Oh they don’t need much at all. The vertical space would really only be needed for the heat lamp and uvb so it’s not so close.
I ask this group if I can use peat moss for PACs they said is bad for Pac-Man frog I was planning to make a bio active enclosure for my Pac-Man
What group did you ask? That’s super weird it is not bad. People use it including me for years and it’s commonly sold as reptisoil at pet stores
I’m finally gonna be getting mine in the coming weeks, have used your videos and made a shopping list to start preparing his home!
Awesome to see!
They may be pet rocks, but they're absolutely adorable ❤. Do pacman frogs croak alot?
Males will mine do every now and then
I want to set live plants for my frog but what kind of plant can you use that not toxic for them?
Would the frog be fine if I only fed it nightcrawlers and meal wormS?
Yes
A 10 gallon is perfectly fine for a male 20 for a female. I would not recommend going any bigger. If you're going bigger. You're doing it for yourself. They do not need that much space and it will take more time and more effort to keep the humidity in the heat in and clean. Keep it at 20. Dont be a hipster.
People struggle with humidity and the answer is extremely simple just add leaf litter same as outside leaf litter seals in humidity in the soil and you only have to mist like once a month. That’s how I do it. Heat wise 10 gallons are just super small for heat lamps and new keepers tend to cook there animals in smaller tanks if you know what your doing obviously you can work with certain things but this is for new keepers who I’ve seen use 10 gallon tanks and bake there frogs with a heat lamp cause it’s too small a tank with not enough room for a cooler area for there frogs to cool down.
It's actually easier to manage humidity and temperature in a large enclosure. It's physics ;)
I just brought one from petco and they don’t move at all I thought he didn’t like the enclosure
Haha yup pet rocks. At night they will move around sometimes
What about the heating?
Im considering using a ceramic heat emmiter
Hey I have had my pacman for about 4 months and for the vast majority of the time it has been buried under the dirt. My temps range form about 68 at night and about 72 during the day. The tank is moist. Is this normal for a pacman to do?
Might get a Zilla low profile heat lamp 25watt halogen heat bulb and raise temps above 75 it should get him to stop doing it. During winter it is normal for them to do it. Spring time they will pop back out
Hello 😊 I live in Slovakia and I have trouble to translate the word " top soil " in order to buy it. Is top soil regular soil that you use to grow indoor plants? P.S. I like your video very much.🎉
Yes make sure it is clean and has no fertilizer or pesticides
can it eat meat of fish meat ?
My PacMan is my only frog, but he is one of my favorite animals even though he does nothing!
Yes I love my “pet rock” as well haha. They are the best
What kind of plants can you put in the tank that are real?
Dang it! I just filled our new tank with the coco fiber stuff you don’t like 😒
Haha it’s ok it works for some. It’s just my opinion on that one
how long am i supposed to let my pacman frog be buried for? i keep freaking out that he is going to die and i keep digging him out every week or so, it is cold where i live right now but my “frog” room is between 70°-75° degrees and i dont understand why he is doing this???
Sounds like he’s hibernating mine do it during winter and they will stay buried until spring
Is ok for the pacman frog to buried it self because is hibernating
Would it be cool with a 40 gallon its whole life im not buying more than one tank
Oh yeah 100% you could always go straight to the max size at first. I would say it could be male though and they are much tinier so you could do 20 gallon.
Im thinking of getting a pacman frog and i have ose question: idont use city water mesning its not clorinated so is well water ok or should i buy the de-clorinatet
I know people who use well water and it’s fine. If you are scared you can buy reptisafe
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you so much! ♥ 🐸
So do you not use drainage layers? Just asking cause confused on if I need one I use the bioactive soil you use
I do not. However you can. I have a bioactive guide talking about it if you want more info
What about night time? Do you recommend getting a night lamp for the nighttime?
I don’t use any but if it gets ridiculously cold like below 55f a deep heat projector is ok
Do the mini halogen bulbs have uvb??
They do not
Where can I find your Amazon link to see the products you suggested? 😅
It’s in the description of this video sorry about that 😂
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you!
Did you make the label for the tank or do you have a link?
what live plants do you suggest? or which ones do you use yourself?
I use nerve plants, pothos, bromeliads.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse you the man! big fan so thank you!
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse would love to show you our final product after watching your video! if you can think of a way how let us know!!!
You mentioned getting plants from Home Depot. Is that ok without knowing whether they have any chemicals? Is there any amount of cleaning or spraying I can do for those to make them better?
Do you have bowl recommendations? I dont want one heavy because he has burried underneath it. (Holds in nice heat and water under) But the bowl i have now is big because he is an adult. But he is so bad at climbing out. This was his problem with his previous bowls too. Should i be worried that he struggles a bit before getting out?
Oh no very normal they aren’t the greatest climbers so getting out is harder for them. I use the petsmart bowls there’s a large shallow one where he can get in and soak if he needs too that way he won’t drown since he’s not the brightest
@ChiefSweetsUniverse I supervise Kyle while he's in his bowl. He has never gotten in it himself other than a few times. I put him in when I know he needs a shed because be looks crusty x) there was a time he had old skin stuck in between his eyes he couldn't reach with his little arms. I love him he is so funny.
this is very helpful thankyou frog guy 🐸
Happy to help
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse i just bought 2 young pacman few days ago, they stop pooping after i gave them goldfish 😔 im feel bad ,ive been giving them warm water 3 times today, they still not poop yet
What shelf do you use for your enclosures? I am looking for a good shelf
I use this basic heavy duty muscle rack from Home Depot. It’s the 72 inch tall 24 inch wide and 48 inch width ones. Home Depot’s version is better than Lowe’s. I have both
I pick mine up around Christmas time! Is an exo terra large breeding box okay for a baby? Like, literally the size of a coin?
It can work but it’s really short which doesn’t offer as much dirt for deep dirt. congrats when you get him. For babies I usually get a 10 gallon tank from Walmart for $15. lol
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse ah I’m in the UK so we don’t really have deals like that here, it’ll set you back at least £80 for a 10 gal
how often do i feed it normally and how many bugs
Skip to 17:17 to see my feeding guide 😁
Do you need a heating pad or just the lamp? Great video by the way 👍
One of the other. Which ever one you prefer
What do you recommend if the substrate has tiny bugs crawling around? I’m not sure if it’s from the substrate or moisture
That sounds like springtails or soil mites. Perfectly fine just let them do there business if it’s soil mites you can turn on lights and they will go away.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverseDon’t Pac-Man frogs don’t like.. direct light from above? Like I heard they dry up from heat lamps from above, so you rather use some type of heater on the bottom of the tank
@@Daniel_Temo so they can escape the heat from above but if it’s on the bottom it can get too hot and instead of retreating to cooler temps underground it would get hotter
I am chill so I got 1
Nice
Pacman frogs are one of my favourite frogs
Mine too they are great!
Bros a pet rock
The best pet rock
Great thorough video!
Thank you!
Bad ass thank u
Happy to help!
Can you feed them hamsters?
😭😭
You should look for an alternative to peat. It is not sustainable and harvesting it is destroying a lot of habitats. 😕
As of right now there isn’t one. Also you should really tell this to the companies I have no say in this. Reptisoil is peat moss, top soils are peat moss, potting soils are peat moss, trust me when I say I would love to buy just regular dirt haha but the corporations don’t offer it
@ChiefSweetsUniverse I don't keep any kind of reptiles, so I wasn't aware that's what those products are. But I'm happy to submit feedback to those manufacturers now too. 😇 I just came across your channel today and like to learn so here I am. Lol
@@nutmeggs no worries but I do get this comment quite a bit and I’m always like “I can’t do anything it’s not me it’s the system”😭 please 🙏 😂 but I agree I wish there was more alternatives cause peat isn’t that great of a substrate but it’s the best everyone has access too. If it was just regular dirt that would legit be the absolute best. Idk why they don’t sell regular dirt. Because people in rural areas could just go outside and dig a hole but people who live in city’s that’s not accessible and usually grass is treated with chemicals. It’s hard out here for keepers haha
@ChiefSweetsUniverse Plant world is the same way! A lot of carnivorous plants live in peat bogs, so I feel your pain. I didn't realize other hobbies used peat until I saw a tarantula video a while back. Hopefully an alternative is offered soon for all of us!! 🤞🤞 Even if it's just people selling plain ol dirt! LOL
@@nutmeggs same! I legit want just regular dirt because it’s the best for my reptiles I do use regular dirt for tons of my enclosures actually but when telling others about it. It’s extremely hard because of the fact most people live in cities haha. Maybe one day we will see regular dirt.
So I'm thinking about getting one and I currently have the tank infrunt of my window should I still get lights?
You still need the uvb as glass blocks uvb but it may actually get hot enough in the tank. Take temps first and see
