Do you "NEED" a magwell? Featuring the Tyrant CNC magwell

My thoughts and opinions, regarding using a magwell on a concealed carry firearm, and taking a look at some issues that may arise. Keep in mind the cool factor doesn't outweigh any potential issues you may face in a life and death situation.

a friend has a magpul extended magwell on her 17 and has the same issues. i don't get the point of them.

They are good for their intended purpose, when they don't cause unintended side effects. In competition, hundredths of a second can matter, so anything you can do to speed up is great.
Unfortunately I think many of them fall a little short in the CCW category right out of the box. I'm sure with the right modifications those issues can be mitigated. But shouldn't be required for something advertised as good to go out of the box.
