I wish Midwest had designed this so that the bottom of the rail (6 o’clock) was flush with the bottom of the receiver. Maybe the top of each side of the rail would/should go higher around the barrel to accolade being flush with the bottom of the receiver (the whole thing shifted upwards). That might require a more square shape instead of round (it seems like a lot of lever action rails take that approach). It would look a lot better overall. More balanced.

As a non carrying (female) human, this further solidifies how incredibly important it is to not only be armed but also be mentally and emotionally responsible & confident in a situation where these kinds of decisions must be made in a split second. I live in a state that makes it damn near impossible to carry yet the town I live right next to (and drive thru frequently) is one of the deadliest in the US. That said, I had a knife pulled on me by a (maybe) 20 something yo dude when I tried to merge into the highway exit lane with plenty of room along with my blinker on. The kid wanted nothing to do with responsible driving that day and took it upon himself to brake check me several times bf throwing his car in park and running at me at full speed, knife in hand. The (even more) f’ed up thing about it was my best friend had _JUST_ found her mother dead in her home and I was on my way to meet her there. Emotions were def high on my end but by _NO MEANS_ have I ever been put in a situation of that nature. Absolutely terrifying. Glad it worked out for yall in the long run but damn what an experience overall.

You were lucky the prosecutors declined to go forward and at least put you to trial. (Not being shitty, just a frank opinion). In a lot of states, Texas being what I know best, your choice of words(while somewhat understandable) against the driver you confronted could have arguably been considered provocation, and nuked any legal defense to prosecution under self-defense statutes you had. That isn't to say the other car's driver and passenger wouldn't catch charges(and convictions), but the law being blind(as it should be), there was merit for a prosecutor to at least try you against a jury as well(thought that might not have been the case in FL law at the time). Were I on the jury and testimony + evidence matched everything you said here(under Texas law), I'd most likely vote to acquit(given the driver's initial provocation) but not without solid deliberation. No doubt this was a harrowing experience, but it's a good food-for-thought for fellow gun-owners about being judicious in their words as much as how they carry.
