I want to share this band with somebody but nobody in my life listens to the same type of music that I do so I'm alone in this experience. Much love to you all. Thank you for your excellent taste in music and for existing. 💕
Ok, (I am almost 69, and just heard this band for 1st time tonight on Austin City Limits). Their sound woke me out of a sleep and inspired me to look up who this was. So sorry I’ve missed 13 years of brilliant indie rock, but happy to be enthusiastically on the bus now. This album is thrillingly good.
Me too....in the old category, that is, 68. And I love these guys too! Saw them last yr. Nice show. I can't rave about their live show b/c I'm a huge Queen fan (also late to discover them - a few yrs back) so, Freddie BLEW ME AWAY & I realized the diff between entertainment and a show. Freddie was the God of entertainment! Best performer Ever! But I do love TWOD & would see them again, just b/c of their music. Love this song! Also, Buenos Aires Beach (the Bonnaroo version!), Holding On, and Baby Missiles are great!
@Robert Clarke....Thank you for saying what I was just thinking - as soon as I saw his moronic comment. Just didn't think he'd be able to read it. What a jerk!
I think we all discover music in our own time. Sometimes right when we most need it. This band, specifically, this album was one of the moments just recently. Approaching 40 & experiencing what feels like an existential crisis, A Deeper Understanding was incredibly profound & beautiful. There are songs like In Chain and Strangest Thing that somehow fill a void in your soul perhaps you didn’t know you had. This album is an absolute masterpiece of music captured. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I’m forever grateful. -Gio
This song touches the deepest emotional buttons, feel like a child again, discovering all the new emotions for the first time. This albums is a masterpiece and Lost in the Dream probably the album of the decade. This group deserves much more.
Why can’t I like it twice. In all seriousness this is probably my favourite song of all time. It just exuded a sense of freedom and joy I’ve yet to capture anywhere else. This song and by extension the band has greatly helped me get through quarantine.
The shoot at 4:16 is soo beautiful and well made, the way she removes the leaves from the back of that kind creature I interpret that as she's accepting the hard truth that everything's changing all the time, people coming and going away suddenly and dying as well. Life is not as vast and boundless as you may think. There is sadness along the way but it is really part of the journey. LOVE this band.
Oh, I'm rising from within I see it every morning Tell you where the rhythm ends "Is it cold tonight my love?" I whisper through the screen And there is nothing I can say or do in between Oh, it always changes, I don't understand I keep moving through the edge of now Here comes a feeling I can't stop emotionless and bored Oh, you said You played my brother like fire You walked him through the rain There was nothing but cold ? But the feeling that I get The warmth of your embrace There is nothing I can do if I am going away It was all so innocent You could feel my loving arms Then I saw you in the morning light You were standing in my door emotionless and bored oh oh yeah All my waiting was in vain I walked alone in pain Through the early morning rain Feel the warmth of my embrace Tore me underneath the shadows Once before I get erased But my love is on the line I pushed it through the pack I kept sliding out of time Now our moon is on the rise There is always something bigger Leaning on the other side, yeah But you wanted me On the wrong path I've been hanging on the other side Keep on pushing back We belong here I'll take all I can get I've been hanging on the other side I keep pushing back
If you didn’t grow up in the 80’s…the way this song makes you feel is how it felt! Something about this song captures nostalgia from my youth. Instantly one of my all time favorite songs 👍🏾🎶
The band name has always stuck with me. Makes me feel that they were once down and depressed but instead of resorting to drugs, they resorted to song writing. In a way, they have declared a 'War on Drugs' and the weapon of their choice is nothing but their music. Great band. One of the best this decade.
I really don’t think this is far off! Like.. it’s that zen. There is nothing, joyfully, to find. It is just life. No ego or attachments. Just you, whatever that is, something bigger waiting on the other side... like a weird fuggly plant man
Lotta great songs. Pain is probably my favorite. I was so into the song, watching the video I didn't realize it was filmed in black and white until about half way through. Awesome! Under The Pressure video fimed at Austin City Limits Is a must see. The saxaphone will adrenalize you! Wow.
Holy shit this is so good. A Deeper Understanding is the first album I've heard by this group and I honestly feel robbed that I didn't find them earlier
This theme sounds so full of freedom and rejoicing for it. I think you feel like a child again, when you throw yourself with your soul so pure of innocence into the adventure of life. A true sensory journey to the depths of those sensations lived. For my part, I will not stop listening to it, even as an old man to remember how those times were. To enjoy again and again this masterpiece :D

What a song, my god. Imagine being the person who created it. I'd feel like I never had to accomplish anything else. This might be the best song ever and I'm not exaggerating.
While i agree that this song is absolutely fantastic, i’m curious to your reasoning behind why you think this is the best song ever. Could you elaborate?
@@DynamicProductions. I appreciate your curiosity. I don't think I can put it into words haha. It's such a vibe. It's so intense and relentless and there's so much going on but at the same time it feels like it's still really holding back and could hit you 5 times harder if it wanted to. It feels like it's constantly keeping you near the edge of overexcitement.

MC JORDAN ??? I don't understand. You seem like the type of person that would say "omg this song reminds me of this movie" or something similar. I'm over here in the group that says "man this song reminds me of...oh wait...this song" and doesn't correlate it to anything but it itself. You bug me. I'm here! I like it and understand what you mean. They think it's boring -- I find it fascinating and heart-expanding! Peace 🙂
J, look up The Waterboys, it's an Irish band from the 80's. The band here had to have been influenced by them! :)
A lot of us fans feel this way, its why we spend so long here haha
J, couldn't have said it better. Only us guys born in the 60s know what music truly is and how it should be.

The whole album is a masterpiece from beginning to end.
The whole.
Yeah, another fucking great piece of "The Drugs"

No this is their 4th album, 1st on a Major Label. C'mon Dominguez

Amen :)
I don't think we're talking enough about how sad this video is. I am devastated.
So bruce springsteen, dire straits and a lot of 80's vibes combined = The War On Drugs. Just amazing
João Neves Silva Farmhouse truly spoken.
et dans "Pain" et Under The Pressure " il y a un peu du Bob Dylan je trouve
Some Bryan Adams in there too
Plus a bit of Bob Dylan.
Voice young Bryan adams ..!!
Perfect. All of it
The War On Drugs is a breath of fresh air in an era of music that I have trouble finding comfort in.
Try Nathaniel Rateliff " time makes fools of us all" and " love don't ". Try Michigander " better"

Did you watch it?

This band are brilliant. I'm a huge Dire Straits fan and I can see the musical progression very similar. Great band.
Please......keep making music. I needed this so much.
I love this band. They’ve got me through grief, sadness, and have made me feel hope and happiness. ❤
A Deeper Understanding is the best album I’ve heard in a long time. I ❤️ it.
Yes it is
cute metaphor on friendship and the brevity of life (I was nicely surprised to see Sophia Lillis in the video)
Seeing Sophia dancing is very cute also the little dinosaur tattoo on her right hand is adorable.
Feels like the 80s 😍❤️
Oh, I'm rising from within

And there is nothing I can say or do in between
Oh, it always changes, I don't understand
I keep moving through the edge of now
Here comes a feeling I can't stop
emotionless and bored
Oh, you said
You played my brother like fire
You walked him through the rain
There was nothing but cold ?
But the feeling that I get
The warmth of your embrace
There is nothing I can do if I am going away
It was all so innocent
You could feel my loving arms
Then I saw you in the morning light
You were standing in my door
emotionless and bored
oh oh yeah
All my waiting was in vain
I walked alone in pain
Through the early morning rain
Feel the warmth of my embrace
Tore me underneath the shadows
Once before I get erased
But my love is on the line
I pushed it through the pack
I kept sliding out of time
Now our moon is on the rise
There is always something bigger
Leaning on the other side, yeah
But you wanted me
On the wrong path
I've been hanging on the other side
Keep on pushing back
We belong here
I'll take all I can get
I've been hanging on the other side
I keep pushing back
I'm 65 years old & this band plays my music! Awesome & I thought real music was dead.
Classic rock for 21st century... thank f*ck!

2017 was the best year of the last decade. There were good songs!
All of their music gives me the chills. Every time I listen.
