Just to comment a couple of things (these are just how I saw the game they might be wrong) 1. The memories on the beach tell the story of how Geppetto had a son named Carlo but didn't bother with him at all (even sending him to a boarding school and not attending graduation) but he built him a frined puppet named Romeo. Carlo wanted to learn to fight from a legendary stalker (I forgot her name) but she couldn't be bothered and then while "adventuring" the boy died and the stalker found him and was filled with regret. His death would then start Geppetto on the path of reviving him 2. I don't think Paracelsus is the mastermind as you said in the clip. I think he's a part of some mysterious organization that will be appearing across the new multiverse of games (Pinochio, Dorothy (from Wizard of Oz), even Dorian Gray was mentioned as he created the picture of Carlo aka Pinochio) and he was in Krat just "investigating" aka scoping/spying. I even think the organization has something to do with immortality as they say there are different forms of immortality so they may be researching immortality or even have immortal founding members looking for new "brothers" or "keys"
Hmm no, Romeo wasn't a puppet in the first place. Carlo met him when he was a child, they were both children in the house of Monad and GREW UP together. Puppets cannot grow, even as humane as P. It is implied by texts of the game tho that later, after Carlo died probably, Romeo got sick with petrification disease (probably along with others when the epidemy stroke, which was brought by the alchemists during their experiments with Ergo) and after his death was put into a puppet along with other residents of the house. He probably was among the first puppets to be made with ego already awoken or with higher chances to wake. Since after the first puppet Camilla (Carlo's mum) they were trying to replicate ego awakening to study ergo more, and also they needed the King of Puppets to have a control center over then for easier access.
@@ashiyadoman2082 That wouldnt make sense, cause the puppet Romeo messages and even his boss fight talk as if he knows P personally and calls him Carlo as if P has always been Carlo
Romeo knows Carlo personally, because they grew up together. And puppets can awake their Ego, which can also bring back their memories. It happened to some puppets, Camilla is notable example, since she wanted to get back to her child she remembered. Romeo also remembered his past with Carlo. His actual Boss Ergo states that he woke up on the throne he didn't want, not that he was created for it. Him being a puppet wouldn't make sense at all because puppets can't grow and can't get old.@@zwei3179
@@zwei3179 it make sense.. since all we know Ergo is like souls, it containts memories of once a human... Remember in the memory Romeo and Carlo both were child and the keyword in his Ergo when he communicating with P is "grew up together". Since puppets can't grow, the only possibility is Romeo once was human just like Carlo but then died by the desease and turned into puppet, before awoken his ego and remember all memories of human Romeo. If Romeo is a puppet that can speak like human to Carlo in memory, then in King Puppet fight his language and subtitle should be clear like archbishop boss fight 2nd phase. But no, his language still distorted like ordinary puppet. The only puppet that has clear language so far since the beginning is the Riddle King.
When you play this game the first time, you get such a feeling of “yeah I’m gonna save krat, free gepetteo, and be back before dinner After beating puppet king: a-are we the bad guys Gemini? I feel like the bad guy. And then when you slowly start piecing each story element together and doing some research in-game you realize how GOOD this game is and how well written it is. Even if it’s a fairytale, this grim view on it is new and I enjoy it.
really good recap of the main story, I sometimes miss certain points with the “heat” of such soulslikes, but creators like you make “lorethrough” videos for us to grasp any stuff we missed. thank you!
Something that I wish was a bit expanded on was the Stalkers and Bastards. They existed before the Puppet Frenzy, and according to Polendina, they are known as the Vigilantes of Krat. My guess to that is that they're mercenaries or something, but I wish I knew more about them. Red Fox my beloved and good boi Black Cat
they will be explored for sure on the next game, so many possibilities and story extension that this game gave us the whole playthrough, Ill trust neowiz will deliver again :)
So the puppet is the sulfur from the 3 primes. According to Paracelsus (1493-1541), the three primes or tria prima - of which material substances are immediately composed - are:[2] Sulfur or soul, the principle of combustibility: 🜍 () Mercury or spirit, the principle of fusibility and volatility: ☿ () Salt or body, the principle of non-combustibility and non-volatility: 🜔 ()
Just finished. What an amazing game. Solid gameplay, beautiful graphics, and complex story. Thanks for the summary. It mirrored my play through, as I imagine it did many others'. Those choices just seemed like the way the story should play out.
It looks like the Wizard of Oz could be in the next game. In real life there was a lot of nasty chemicals used for filming and the actress for Dorothy ended up overdosing in her forties. Giangio mentioned something about the difference between medicine and poison being the same thing just the amounts are different. That and finding out about the filming seems related. There should be something that fits Alice in Wonderland too but no dice yet.
This is such a poignant read on the Wizard of Oz connection. I think the story itself has plenty of lore to pull from alone, but I would love to see some thoughtfulness about the movie filming in the next game, too.
I feel like the boy would have given Antonia the cure. As she would die either way, but the cure would allow her to live her last days, without the burden of the petrification disease. It is also needed for the achievement making it feel like the Canon decisions
That was a tough decision though, because we already seen what kind of "cure" the alchemists can make. In the end, i decided to give it to her. I've been surprised how well it turned out.
Yea I was surprised by that one. I gave it to her and results were VERY positive. I think because Giangio seems separate from the alchemist now. Dedicated to real cure not the weird experiments of a “cure” (which is not really a cure).
@84rinne_moo In retrospect, I certainly agree! The fact that it triggers an “internal change” and you end up getting a unique record definitely supports this should be the canonical choice to make. Unfortunately, at the time I made this video I didn’t have ample time to complete multiple playthroughs to experiment with all the different results.
He didn’t actually die in the process of bringing her back. when he gives her peace he freed her from her body and took her ergo into himself, then after defeating the nameless puppet he simply put her ergo into a puppet with similar appearance (made by him I suppose) and collapsed because of the action of taking ergo out of his own heart. When she awakens and find him on the ground she picks him up and extends her hand to place it on his face but before she does so his face twitches hinting to him being alive just currently unconscious, hence why she sais im so happy to see you; iff he had died she would be mourning him instead of showing joy and smiling.
Apparently P doesn't die at the end he just passed out. After the credits there's Sophia's letter thanking him for what he did and that she'll stay where she was for now because of people not going to be used to a human becoming a puppet with human emotions or something along those lines
The final boss, at the end, phase two, get freed from Gepetto's control, and actually say near the end of the fight (when you can translate) "kill me.. Kill me..." And that's why he wanted to destroy P's heart, he wanted to avoid being alife.
I just finished the game and my only questiin is, who is Gemini? in a dialogue he mention that he sense something in his tomb but nothing else, who is this Gemini and what happened to him?
Gemini is the cricket that travels with you, all we know about him is that he was with the "legendary stalker", it seems after gemini "broke" he lost his memories, we dont know what happened to him or the stalker Tbh i dont even know what gemini's role in this game was, he didnt do anything lol, feels like they added him just because they needed a cricket character
@@GreatRaijintrue, in the beginning of the game Sophia said that he's not some ordinary cricket and he will show his purpose in the future (smth like that). But he was useless the entire time, only cracking jokes every once in a while. He didn't even helped to make a tough moral choices, and that was his original role - conscience - but here, if there's a choice, he's like "well, i dunno man, that's a tough one, guess it's only for you to decide". Jesus Christ, don't you have an opinion of your own? Do your job, you lazy conscience!
As Italian, the book say dog fish, but as other interpretation say is more accurate refers to it as a "Monster" or "Sperm whale". Even the graphical illustration resemble an hybrid between a shark and a whale.
@@Itachi_Rules You're right. In Spanish, il terribile pescecane translates to el terrible cazón, which is a type of shark (the dogfish). My guess is the reason Collodi chose a "dog fish" is because they are common in the Mediterranean. I know the Italian adaptations have it as a sperm whale, great white, monster. It has changed a few times. I think the basic idea is that it was a monster of the sea, and it's fine if they play around with changes so long as it remains a big sea monster.
The ship that took him to the isle of alchemists wasnt a moby dick legend it was a reference to the huge dogfish that swallows pinocchio in the original story
The nose of the portrait has gold coins at the end of it so maybe the gold coin tree comes from some woman that became a puppet and lied towards humanity as much as this makes sense it doesn't fall in line with the story because the tree existed even before puppets existed unless someone actually made a puppet from wood and placed ergo inside making a pinocchio . Can you please give me the music you use in the background ? Also I have information on Parcelsus that you would love to hear .
9:00 I'm probably wrong, but I always thought it was the opposite : Not Geppetto taking Carlo's heart and placing it in his Puppet, but Geppetto removing it from his Puppet and placing it in the Nameless Puppet once his current Puppet (the main character) had outlived his usefulness. Instead of a birth that led to the beginning of the game, I saw it as the King Of Puppets warning Geppetto's Puppet, as best he could, that Geppetto wanted to use him and remove his heart. I saw it as a warning that meant 'Do you want the bad ending ? Because this is how you get the bad ending'.
I am still not convinced Carlo was Gepetto's real son either. Carlo was raised in the charity house orphanage for boys from the slums. Gepetto was Veninni's best craftsman right? This to me means he could afford to keep Carlo around and raise him with good schools and resources. I wonder if Gepetto was drawn to Carlo for his possible skillset as a Stalker to further his own goals. Orphans can make for good hitmen with no family who would miss them if things go south. Hell the bad ending when he moves your heart into the other puppet reflects this. Why couldn't he just ascend your character who has grown more human? Aged and experienced? He clearly wants a "good boy" who only follows orders from his good ol' dad. A good boy who murders everyone in Hotel Krat. On that note, I am still not even sure why he'd want a human for that vs a puppet.
Carlo was never a stalker. In the desert you see the memory of Carlo aspiring to be a stalker. Carlo begged a female stalker to teach him and she refused. Then Carlo was murdered. This was after Carlo graduated from his boarding school and he was upset that Gepetto didn't show up for the graduation. Gepetto loved his son and was grief stricken at his loss. Since ergo contains the essence of human souls he created "Pinocchio" to collect enough ergo in hopes that it could resurrect his son. Gepetto is getting a lot of hate and I understand why. He's responsible for a lot of dead people due to the puppet frenzy. But I think his motivation was purely out of grief and guilt over not being a great father when his son was alive. That level of guilt isn't something a non parent would have.
I m trying to make sense of 1 thing that is blatantly absurd: if geppetto needed us in order to revive his son, why tf is sophia the one who awakened us?
sophia and simon are all part of gepetto's plan. he created P, and asked sophia to guide P to stop Simon, after P gathers all the ergo into his heart he can revive Carlo.
It seems that ending Sophia's life has more impact on the outcome that I thought. I tried not to lie, nose on my painting was short and I still had the "Rise of P" ending.
I lied all along, (told the truth just two times) having so much humanity (the nose on my painting was soooooo long) but then i spared sophia and gained the "free from the puppet strings" ending. As much as i can tell, and having you writing this, the difference maker in gaining one ending or another (not including the "real boy" one) is only stated by what you choose to do with Sophia
Great video! I was hoping to learn more about the real Carlo and what really happened to him (the sequence at the stormy beach where we witness several memories of what seems like Carlo, Romeo, a female stalker and what seems to be Carlos death). I'm also confused as to who exactly is responsible for the frenzy: Was it Gipetto or Paracelsus?
@@brandonmclain2933uhh no? P is definitely referring to the puppet geppetto made and not Paracelsus... you have been lying to everyone during the whole game and also the ending name rise of p has nothing to do with Paracelsus obviously, its about the character we play as. so yeah stop making random things up
And about the frenzy and what happened to Carlo. Carlo and lampwick (romeo) probably died to the petrification disease, thus birthing their ergo's that powered each puppets (p and romeo). Then geppetto started the puppet frenzy, as Romeo clearly said in his message, to force P into taking on all the puppets and take their ergo, making Carlo's ergo stronger, thus awakening Carlo's self through P. At some point I think that romeo found a way to break free from the grand covenant, maybe cause his ergo got stronger too, and he tried to command the puppets to help against the carcasses and the alchemists. I'm guessing what we are witnessing in the actual events of the game is not the puppet frenzy being "active" but more like Romeo trying to have control. Fuoco was making more puppets and sending them to the cathedral, not to kill the refugees in there, but to kill the monsters instead and actually help any humans left. The only part that doesn't make sense is why did Sophia wake you up and not Geppetto? Maybe sophia just made it there first cause we find geppetto trapped and ambushed from mad donkey, possibly was on his way to wake you up. And for some reason, Sophia seems to not care about or not even know about geppetto starting the frenzy. Also, we can safely assume that simon made a deal with geppetto, to have you kill all these puppets and monsters through your journey so that simon can get all the ergo and at the same time make p stronger, which is what geppetto wanted. Because Geppetto is clearly guiding you through, while lying about whats happening and we se simon saying the stage is set when you kill andreus. Its almost like you are helping simon when you think you are working against him. Some things are still unclear but I think most of what I said makes sense and is true.
Thank you. I saw other people game But they miss the painting and so other. It was no clear. But you made it clear story. But why your Pinokio must wear Mask? The Boy is handsome.
I don't think it is a lie, a machine would be unable to determine inner beauty and would only be able to see an outer appearance. Whereas, a more human being would be able to tell that Antonia is the same beautiful person, just with the petrification disease. You don't need to lie to gain humanity in this game, sometimes telling the truth was how you gained humanity.
That was sweet... Good story telling. I haven't bet the game yet but lore to the game are good it is better sometimes then just good game play. Take care and GOD bless you and your family.
I think the Philipus Picelcus guy could also be a secret for either upcoming dlc that got confirmed if not a full on sequel. We got a reveal of P standing on a pirate ship, so it makes me think we might be going to never land next, and maybe P.P could also be Peter Pan
When I was doing my 100% Walkthrough for the game, I wasn’t sure how to refer to her. This is the “White Lady”, she’s bad… 😂 Let’s just chalk it up to a translation error!
The Graphic is so Beautiful. I love it. I found game with Beautiful Graphis are in Texas Chainsaw Massacre GAME, Resident Evil Separated Ways - ADA WONG, and these game - Lies of P. The details of each character is awesome. The Building etc :) These Pinokio is so handsome.

Since after the first puppet Camilla (Carlo's mum) they were trying to replicate ego awakening to study ergo more, and also they needed the King of Puppets to have a control center over then for easier access.
@@ashiyadoman2082 That wouldnt make sense, cause the puppet Romeo messages and even his boss fight talk as if he knows P personally and calls him Carlo as if P has always been Carlo
i been trying to know the legendary stalker name
When you play this game the first time, you get such a feeling of “yeah I’m gonna save krat, free gepetteo, and be back before dinner
After beating puppet king: a-are we the bad guys Gemini? I feel like the bad guy.
And then when you slowly start piecing each story element together and doing some research in-game you realize how GOOD this game is and how well written it is. Even if it’s a fairytale, this grim view on it is new and I enjoy it.
Love seeing these old stories being reimagined in such a creative way.
“As he went to comfort Geppetto in his final moments, he shed a tear.”
Geppetto’s POV: 👹😂
really good recap of the main story, I sometimes miss certain points with the “heat” of such soulslikes, but creators like you make “lorethrough” videos for us to grasp any stuff we missed. thank you!
Understood. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Ouo I killed both of them mercilessly, I didn't even give them the cure
they will be explored for sure on the next game, so many possibilities and story extension that this game gave us the whole playthrough, Ill trust neowiz will deliver again :)
So the puppet is the sulfur from the 3 primes.
According to Paracelsus (1493-1541), the three primes or tria prima - of which material substances are immediately composed - are:[2]
Sulfur or soul, the principle of combustibility: 🜍 ()
Mercury or spirit, the principle of fusibility and volatility: ☿ ()
Salt or body, the principle of non-combustibility and non-volatility: 🜔 ()
It's why the stargazers are burning blue
Just finished. What an amazing game. Solid gameplay, beautiful graphics, and complex story. Thanks for the summary. It mirrored my play through, as I imagine it did many others'. Those choices just seemed like the way the story should play out.
Dorothy: Tin man?
Pinocchio: No, Im Pinocchio.
Dorothy: I must of taken the wrong yellow brick road.
Isn’t Carlo still alive? He flenched when she touched him after she woke up.
Yh I think he is still alive
It looks like the Wizard of Oz could be in the next game. In real life there was a lot of nasty chemicals used for filming and the actress for Dorothy ended up overdosing in her forties. Giangio mentioned something about the difference between medicine and poison being the same thing just the amounts are different. That and finding out about the filming seems related. There should be something that fits Alice in Wonderland too but no dice yet.
This is such a poignant read on the Wizard of Oz connection. I think the story itself has plenty of lore to pull from alone, but I would love to see some thoughtfulness about the movie filming in the next game, too.
crazy that i'm looking up this topic 4 hours after you posted this
I feel like the boy would have given Antonia the cure.
@@TheInhumanOne oh yea totally makes sense! Great video overall btw!
A Pinocchio and Wizard of Oz story is gonna be awesome and crazy XD. Hopefully we'll see Pinocchio again alongside Dorothy
If Frank L Baum is going to be a focus after, who knows what other literary sequels we could explore? Don Quixote? Mark Twain?
Probaby Alice in shitty wonderland
Can't wait for a giant windmill robot shaped like a dragon
great video. If they make a new game but with the wiz of oz whould be insane
Absolutely incredible telling of the story. Loved it!
I don't think Carlo is actually dead, you can see him twitch as Sophia goes to touch him
He didn’t actually die in the process of bringing her back. when he gives her peace he freed her from her body and took her ergo into himself, then after defeating the nameless puppet he simply put her ergo into a puppet with similar appearance (made by him I suppose) and collapsed because of the action of taking ergo out of his own heart. When she awakens and find him on the ground she picks him up and extends her hand to place it on his face but before she does so his face twitches hinting to him being alive just currently unconscious, hence why she sais im so happy to see you; iff he had died she would be mourning him instead of showing joy and smiling.
That’s my análisis of the cutscene tho, iff you like to think that he died in the process of bringing her back to each their own.
Would have enjoyed the video much more, if Carlo hadn't worn such an ugly mask..
Damn, never heard that, but that explain why the puppet still attacks after being freed from Geppeto
Starting to feel bad for romeo
I just finished the game and my only questiin is, who is Gemini? in a dialogue he mention that he sense something in his tomb but nothing else, who is this Gemini and what happened to him?
Gemini is the cricket that travels with you, all we know about him is that he was with the "legendary stalker", it seems after gemini "broke" he lost his memories, we dont know what happened to him or the stalker
Tbh i dont even know what gemini's role in this game was, he didnt do anything lol, feels like they added him just because they needed a cricket character
@CoolSaver This is hilarious. Gemini was so insignificant that I never gave him a second thought and now I know why 😂
@@CoolSaver here's hoping they might be saving it for a dlc lmao
Geppetto arrived at the back of the opera house, hoping that romeo wouldn't break the truth to you...
A little correction. The submarine is a reference to the whale that had eaten Pinocchio in the Collodi's book.
It was a shark in the book
@@johndodo2062it was a "dog fish"
It was a Gyarados
Thx for the breakdown ins lore! Hopefully we get that sequel
Hopefully? DID YOU WATCH THE END OF THE VIDEO
There will be one don’t worry
so geppetto started the frenzy only to allow Carlo to accumulate a lot of ergo?
thanks so much im stuck half way so frustrating but addicting
Thanks for this lore summary, really enjoyed it! What a great story!
Amazing video. I just finished the game. Hope you make lore videos of it. Really excited for the stuff below the surface of the presented story.
Ohh I didn’t put together that the dude on the train was Giangio!! Even after reading the letter lol 😂 Nice story summary!
Very good telling of this story. I really enjoyed it.
Game so amazing!! Thank you this my bed time story love watching this video 😁♥️♥️♥️
Great video, please keep them coming. Love your content and this game
Awesome video. Would live that part 2 is Dorothy playing
this would make a great series
oh so hype for whats coming next.
This game's world's gonna be like shrek's but darker. Lots of reinterpretations of know stories and tales... Nice :D
I want Shreksouls now. Damn you!
Thanks for explaining the story
I love this story ❤
Can anyone explain how Sophia's power works? What does it mean that she can manipulate time because the Time is frozen? How does she use it?
As much as i can tell, and having you writing this, the difference maker in gaining one ending or another (not including the "real boy" one) is only stated by what you choose to do with Sophia
tried the same almost did not lie and free'd Sophia from the Abbaye but still got free from string ending
The fact that "Lies of PP" is not only a meme, but _actually_ the lore lol
That's pretty funny actually
Dorothy’s story is going to go hard
Great video! I was hoping to learn more about the real Carlo and what really happened to him (the sequence at the stormy beach where we witness several memories of what seems like Carlo, Romeo, a female stalker and what seems to be Carlos death). I'm also confused as to who exactly is responsible for the frenzy: Was it Gipetto or Paracelsus?
Also, who woulda I thought that Lies of P represented the lies of Paracelsus ( not Pinnocio)
Thank you so much for your efforts. I was not able to understand this story but you helped me a lot 🙏
So is Pinocchio the tin man
Thank you. I saw other people game But they miss the painting and so other. It was no clear. But you made it clear story. But why your Pinokio must wear Mask? The Boy is handsome.
We never saw Pinocchio.... p stood for parcelsus. When you dig into lore n throries, its way evident.
The irony of this comment…
Is that a blue butterfly in the blue smoke of Pinocchios hand
⭐️Correct!
Really nice recap and content! Thanks for the video
You had me waiting very patiently for this
Bro you're killing me with that parade master mask on when talking to npc's. 😅
Pinnochio’s alive at the end. Your mask hid his face twitch while laying in Sophia’s arms.
🤥
The fox and cat quest is one of my favorites. I feel bad after I fought them my first play though.
I embraced my sweet revenge. I am not fond of those con artists.
Awesome clean explanation ❤❤❤
how can i "lie" about antonia being pretty still without it being a lie lmao
Explain how half of her face is still beautiful, and the other half...Well, not so much.
@@TheInhumanOne in sickness and in health 😍😍
@cjb.7585 😂
The fact that I didn't give Sophia peace is still haunting me.
I thought I'll save her!!!
What I got from the ending of the video is that if they make another game, it’ll be of the wizard of oz
This game is an actual masterpiece.
Man I love this game. What a work of art ❤
this game is so 2023, the white lady will forever go down in history as funny as villain names
So do we get Lies of D next where we get to wreak havoc in Oz as Dorothy?
Crazy lore the lore is less convoluted then Bloodbourne I like it absolutely can’t wait for Lies of P 2 Lies of Dorothy.
Bloodborne's lore being so convoluted makes sense because its eldritch horror which involves knowledge mankind cannot comprehend or not meant to know
it wouldn't be lies of dorothy. It would be virtues of dorothy.
Lies of D
Lying isn’t part of Dorothy’s story. Maybe dreams of dorothy
The Book of Ergo: Journey of D?
Can't wait till I can lay down some sick moves on a 10 ft tall android Toto.
I wish they came up with better names for the monsters. they are so cool looking.
DOOR GUARDIAN

The P Preventer?
You: we will refer to the character as “The Boy”
Me: 🤔 idk about that one chief looks more like The Penguin from Batman if you ask me 😂
Just to pile on, I agree you probably shouldn't have worn a mask lol.
Still great job on the video. Got me through my commute and it was very enjoyable. Thanks for taking the time. I know this stuff takes ages to get together. Keep up the good work!
thank you for explaining! it's a shame they made it so much like Bioshock and final fantasy in its story and design
….. wtf? How high were you when you wrote this?
So you kept the boys face hidden so even subconsciously we wouldn't connect pinocchio to carlo, geppeto's son didn't you?
Outstanding job! Would have been nice if the player had used the "lore accurate" skin rather than whatever endgame version that was used for the gameplay though...
I hope p remains te protagonist of the series i like him
Home of D is gonna be a great experience
