    I’ve been using UA-cam since it’s creation and never felt the need to comment until now. This is the best explanation I’ve come across hands down. I was always a little confused about the wahl guards and now I feel like an idiot. Thanks for taking the time to clear things up for us.

    Best guard tutorial on youtube! I learned how to fade myself by replaying the video over and over while cutting my hair. The explanation between the half guard (1/16th of an inch) and the #2 (1/4th of an inch) is extremely helpful.

    Ivan tho I have a pretty good understanding of these guards, you helped clear it up even more.
    My one complaint and idea that I have, is that sometimes i wish I could have my #1 & #2 guards to have shorter combs like the half guard! To me, that'd help me on bland and fades

  • @kevinerose
    @kevinerose 4 роки тому

    Good explanation. After watching a few videos, I think I got it down now. What I get from this is that you want to first make the line in the hair so as to make it straight. Then you go back a half a step shorter (or between the 2 cuts that make the line) and blend out the line. Being careful not to screw up.

    Good explanation, one thing I found out as well is that the Wahl guards come in 2 different widths as well.
    The cheaper 'home cutting' clippers have a narrower blade compared to the 'professional' clippers.
    The narrow guards for these will not fit on the 'professional' clippers with the wider blade, but the wide guards fit OK on the narrower 'home' clippers, as I found out myself lately when upgrading to a Magic clip cordless from some cheap £10 'Homecut' Wahl clippers.

    So you covered very well how the lever works. What is the way you actually do the fade? If you start from the top and do a 7 all over, then you want to start going down in grades around the back and sides, should you start with it in the closed position and open it up when you fade? Or should you open it up first and then close it to fade? This is not clear to me.

    • @kingdomdrummer4962
      @kingdomdrummer4962 4 роки тому

      That’s what I’m kinda tryna figure out too . The lever open is basically half way so I would usually just use a guard that’s equivalent to half so to blend from 1 to 2 I would use 1 1/2 and play with the lever a bit. Open cut less Close cuts more so I would start with lever open then slowly close till lines goes away. That half guard between the number will probably do the job of getting rid of line tho if not u would most likely just have to play with lever
