Indeed we can. But I still can not comprehend the fact that he said 1/5 becomes a 2 with open guard. Because it becomes nearly 1.5 mm less than a 2 when it's open guard. Any person who started their training in a professional barbering school would know the difference it makes 🤷🏻
i just watched this tutorial bc i got my first pair of clippers to maintain my shaved sides, so i don’t need to know how to fade (professionally or otherwise lol) but you explained this so well that i was hooked and watched the whole thing!! you are an amazing barber and teacher
Simple n straight to the point teacher,I was worried about thr .5 n the 1.5 blade as I just purchased my first clipper and saw either of them in the packing but you xplained like a pro I'm no longer worried thank u sir
Thank you! Out of all video's I've watched yours is best. You explained everything without the music to loud to hear what guard, number to use number !❤
What you think about using only these lengths: Lever closed = 0mm (Fade with Lever Open = 0,5mm) 1 Guard Closed = 1mm Then… 1,5 Guard Open = 2mm (Fade with 1 Guard Open = 1,5mm) I say this because for my Wahl some guards are missing (I only have Guard 1, Guard 1,5, Guard 2 and Guard 4,5)

Good video; it explained A LOT is a short amount of time. Got my clippers yesterday, did my hair and it came out terrible, went to my barber and she told me she’s seen worse so that made me feel a little better 🤣 but yeah I’ma start cutting my own hair to save me a trip to the barber cause due to work I’ll be busy but till I do get it right to the barber it is every trial n error 😂
Thanks a lot for the video. I have a question. I want to buy a clipper and extra guards online. Can you tell me what I should pay attention to so that the guards snap onto the clipper ?
Now to attempt to clipper my sons hair, Covid Lock Down in Australia brings out the hairdresser in us...thanks for explaining how the clippers work...yehhhhh...wish me luck.
Short and impactful video But I want you to make the video explanation of how and when the levers are open/closed in a more detailed way in which the beginners like me can understand
Thank you for the video. Quick question, might be a silly question sorry. Is for example the 0.5 guard on a Wahl DETAILER the same as a 0.5 guard for a Wahl clipper? Thanks in advance
Hi, thanks for posting this video. I’ve got a good idea of wahl clipper guards. But still a little confused with one transition/combination… I saw another video it explains from #2 guard” to a “#1 guard” is by using the 1.5 guard lever half open. (Assuming the 2 and the 1 were lever closed) As you may have noticed most UA-cam fade tutorials the authors use #2 + 1# OPEN! So my question is…. What would you use blending between these two?
@@ezbladeshavingproducts thanks for your reply. Yes I understand the video shows the fundamentals of clipper numbers + levers. And me as an amateur who loves learning to cut my own and son’s hair.. I’ve come to realise that with Fades….there’s factors that can complicate transitions/blend such as; hair type, hair texture, hair color and of course…head shape. But how would you personally recommend blending (or getting rid of a line) between #2 Guard OPEN ~ #1 Guard OPEN? = Eg would that be #2 Guard CLOSED ? Or #1 1/2 Guard Half-OPEN I can’t seem to figure that one out. Sorry for my question, i probably should’ve explained a bit. (I know they say “playing around with the lever” may likely eventually “get rid of the line”.. but the thing is; when some of us are cutting our own hair.. with limited; lighting, vision and reach… it be even harder trying to tender with lever-plays.. in addition) I’m just thinking it be easier to find the precise half-way point and then work within a narrow distance…than a large variation and end up messing things up if done wrong. I’ve also come to realise that bald fading doesn’t have to be so complicated (and overkill) as those tutorials that teach to “close the lever; little by little… close it like x4 or 5 times and passing the line“.. it can be done with couple of guards and minimal lever movement and achieve the same. I’d be grateful if you could offer some more guidance. Thank you again.
@@thugnasty5242 no not really…. I’m not a barber, just learning to fade my own hair and my son’s. Because if you think about it for a moment, 1.5 guard OPEN is basically a 2 guard closed. But no one ever uses a 2 guard closed as a guideline when fading. I’ve also found it depends a bit on a persons hair density, thickness… So between 2# OPEN > 1# OPEN I’ve personally just kept using 1.5 guard half-closed to closed…you’ll have to play around with, lines don’t always disappear easy… unlike how easy the UA-cam barbers show case it… My question now is between #2 OPEN > #3 OPEN… (some UA-camrs jump from 2 to 4.. skipping the 3) that line is the hardest to get rid of… no matter what I do… it doesn’t go… I’m forced to have to just keep at it with thinning shears w/comb to try soften that transition… and it ends up looking either uneven or … just “meh Ok…..” looking in the end
This is how i learned the length to do fade's,can you tell me if you think this is a good way for lenghts? Lever closed=0mm Lever halfway=0,25mm Lever open=0,5mm 0,5 guard closed=0,75mm 1 guard closed=1mm 0,5 guard open=1,25mm 1 guard open=1,5mm 1,5 guard closed=1,75mm 1,5 guard open/2 guard=2mm
What about using only these lengths: Lever closed = 0mm (Fade with Lever Open = 0,5mm) 1 Guard Closed = 1mm Then… 1,5 Guard Open = 2mm (Fade with 1 Guard Open = 1,5mm) I say this because for my Wahl some guards are missing
My clippers are some random clippers I bought to shave my dads hair off and now I’m into doing barbering but my clippers don’t have a lever it has a little thing at the bottom which does the same thing I believe
So in short if you cutting with a 2 and then move to a 3 you remove the line by using a 2.5. Same goes with 2.5 you use 3.5 and to remove the line you use a 2 right ?
@@ezbladeshavingproducts What I am reading from this question is...Do all guards fit on all brands of clippers? Can the user interchange guards with different clipper devices or at least can the user use all Wahl guards with all Wahl clippers if sticking with the same brand?
Hmm, so this is pretty much what I used to do with my last pair of clippers and all seemed good. Had to get a new pair, Wahl Designer, and it seems I have to work extra hard to get the line out of my head. Is it common for taper levers to be off?? Been thinking of just getting a new pair. These clippers don't have hard stop notches on the lever either.
U KNO what I like about u bro, u just explain it simply, we don't have to hear u talk about your religion or silly SHYTT. U just explain it and end the video, Good job guy!👍🏾
Hmmmm....I did not know anything about different types of clippers when I bought mine. It has no lever. I used the biggest guard, (8) hoping for about a 1" overall length, and I ended up with a GI crew cut anyway, as if there were no guard at all!! Good thing I've always been a tomboy, kept my hair in a short "pixie" cut most of my life, and am not vain about my hair. After my initial shock, I just said, "Oh, well--it's hair--it will grow."
I have an issue taking a heavy weight line out on a bald fade when the hair is really dark is there an easier way to do this fade to make the line dissappear?

Thanks I learned a lot from this I was confused by the open close. But soon as you said each number goes transitions to the next it made sense

What you think about using only these lengths:
Lever closed = 0mm
(Fade with Lever Open = 0,5mm)
1 Guard Closed = 1mm
Then…
1,5 Guard Open = 2mm
(Fade with 1 Guard Open = 1,5mm)
I say this because for my Wahl some guards are missing (I only have Guard 1, Guard 1,5, Guard 2 and Guard 4,5)
Nothing wrong with that. That works to
1 guard its not 3mm?

Lever halfway=0,25mm

0,5 guard closed=0,75mm

0,5 guard open=1,25mm
1 guard open=1,5mm
1,5 guard closed=1,75mm
1,5 guard open/2 guard=2mm

Lever closed = 0mm
(Fade with Lever Open = 0,5mm)
1 Guard Closed = 1mm

1,5 Guard Open = 2mm
(Fade with 1 Guard Open = 1,5mm)
