I just discovered this song yesterday. It had 500,000 listens on Spotify (WTF?! Why so few??!!! I've listened to it about 25,000 times since then, so hopefully it gets as many as some of the songs he has written for Taylor Swift or Panic. Butch, you're amazing. Thank you!!!
Butch is one of the best songwriters I've ever heard. What a great song. He can come up with some hooks. I can't believe he's not more popular. Mind boggling. I'm still mad that M3 had to break up.
marriage+child(ren)+love+hope+faith+lots of H2O=more time with those you love and no regrets! He has it going on and all of the above! His light bulb is screwed in right and his light is shining ever so bright. Unlike so many musicians today, left or right either way you look at him he is NOT self centered and totally in alignment with that divine spark within side of himself. AwEsOmE role model for the youngins !!! Love you much, Moon
Butch always has been and will forever be my favorite singer/songwriter. Had the pleasure of hanging out with him 2010/2011 another show in South FL is needed!! Been too long BW
i love how this guy can do anything and it sounds good... he's one of the few singers that doesn't need a synth or heavy vocal effects to sound good/sell a song!
Been a fan since Math and Other Problems. Moved to Seattle and haven't gotten to seem him live except a trip home to Atlanta for Christmas 4-5 years ago where I got too damn drunk to make any sense when I met him at a bar after the show. What a waste. He was such a nice guy when I got to meet him behind the Georgia Theater before a show in '95 or sometime around there and was just as gracious that second time, despite my drunkenness. Hope you come out to WA sometime, ol' buddy. Miss ya.
Saw Butch and the black widows support pink in Swansea- god knows what year but fell in love with butch and the music. Listened to this song and sweethearts continuously for the last week. Don’t understand how I’ve never heard of them before. ❤️
This song is ridiculously good. Catchy chorus, smart lyrics, and it's so genre crossing that it could be pop metal from the 80s, early new wave or even a modern country song. Sure wish this sort of music was still what the masses craved.
This song just may be the end to my car stereo! I heard this on a promo for "The Middle"!! Don't watch the show but freaked when I heard it! LOVE LOVE the new album- congrats guys. Butch- your voice is as amazing as ever!
ppsayl123 I was there. Bryan Adams wasn't necessarily "cool", but his music was fun. And MTV USED to be "cool", but decided to go with this generation's superficial nonsense, and dropped music - the height of "uncool". Today's pop stars think ALL of their fans' parents' music is/was "uncool". I guess the few rock stars still coming out like to put forth the same thought. Maybe that's one of the reasons Butch Walker will probably remain relatively unknown. Sad.
screwyootube1 newsflash- Butch Walker was there too! The guy was actually getting played on MTV while you were busy idealizing Bryan Adams. You first need to realize this guy is Gen-X just like you and me and then go read the songs lyrics- maybe the main difference here isn’t anything about hating (or liking) “their parents music” but the fact that some people have a different perspective of their youth, when they look back now, and some people are in the exact same mental spot
+arronisaac Nah...For one thing, the Dixie Chicks Goodbye Earl was a cover (it was originally written by Sons of the Desert) and beyond that, though the two songs are similar I don't think they're close enough to warrant any kind of royalties...
Has no one pointed out this is GOODBYE EARL by the Dixie Chicks, EXACTLY. Check out the verses. Aint calling Butch a stealer (Im a Rome boy too), but things get stuck in your head. SURELY someone along the way hear d Goodbye Earl in this one.
From Southgang to Marvelous 3 to solo and beyond, Butch is pure gold.

I am glad you discovered this. Have you listened to his other music
Summer of '89 WAS the best! 2021 will be even better!
Someday Butch will return to Connecticut..... he's got a lot of fans here that miss him.
Butch is one of the best songwriters I've ever heard. What a great song. He can come up with some hooks. I can't believe he's not more popular. Mind boggling.

The great Sleeper of our generation
His songs are good, but the choruses are just monstrous. I've heard about 5 or 6 of his tunes and they all have amazing choruses.
One of my FAVORITE songs from the Spade!

This makes it clear. I've spent too much time tracking down old rare songs and let new good music pass right by. I'VE BEEN SO BLIND LOL

Ok, so you are not just a GREAT singer, producer, musician, writer BUT you also found the Fountain of the Eternal Youth. GREAT JOB! :D
This song just may be the end to my car stereo! I heard this on a promo for "The Middle"!! Don't watch the show but freaked when I heard it! LOVE LOVE the new album- congrats guys. Butch- your voice is as amazing as ever!

Summer is here.
you should do WORLD TOUR!!
good song
Did you guys mean to upload this in mono?
@Loulabelle76 Darren is playing with Ponderosa now I think
sweet
is it just me or the verse of this song sounds exactly like "goodbye earl" from the dixie chicks??? is it like a remake or something ?
Holy shit you're right. Almost identical vocal beats.
@cindyrella24673 he's in Ponderossa now! :-)
I swear Butch is aging backwards.
Which sucker voted for dislike??
sounds like me first and the gimme gimmes goodbye earl
@JustinBartz I might agree with that if....Slug and Jayce werent awesome(which they are) and if Butch and them were still friends(which they are)
This is a great song. My band does Summer of 69, now I can't stop thinking that Brian Amams was only cool because MTV told us he was...LOL.

13tread Lol...very good, sir.
He's kisses real good. lol southgang days
I still remember when he dumped a 5th a jager down my throat at a show once..
It's just NOT FAIR that this guy hasn't "made it". However, this tune doesn't measure up to some of the better M3 tunes.
Best song, all time...wake up A.**holes.
*sorry, typing on my iPad. Anyway, it's funny to hear him sing about where I'm from.
This sounds like Earl Had to Die by the Dixie Chicks...haha Love Butch
Should the Dixie Chicks get a cut of the sales?
+arronisaac Nah...For one thing, the Dixie Chicks Goodbye Earl was a cover (it was originally written by Sons of the Desert) and beyond that, though the two songs are similar I don't think they're close enough to warrant any kind of royalties...
arronisaac pleaaassees...those has been didn’t write shit anyways.
lose girls from Rome hahaha good ole Rome,Ga love living in this town
Fucking stellar
if you look up the word brilliant in the dictionary, butch Walker's picture is there.
Hee hee. He accidentally re-wrote "Goodbye Earl". End results: Very catchy.
RIP Seymour
It's funny to him
Song would be so amazing if it was 10 - 15 minutes long
That was freaking awesome as fuck!!'
loving the denim jacket/harmony guitar combo = shout out to Bryan Adams
in Rome I guess
gosh he's hot with short hair like that
Somebody likes John Cougar Mellencamp
😂
I love it. Okay Butch was always cute but is he just getting hot or what ?
I'm sure he had plenty of the loose one from Cartersville too... lol
@omgpickles he just stopped doing drugs... ha
verse sounds like earl by dixie chicks oops
Mark Loren Both songs sound a LOT like a typical 80s pop/rock song.
Seymour Cassell gave Slash the name
Where are these "loose girls from Rome"? lol
Butch kinda look's like a good looking version of Conan O' Brian
@omgpickles Just like Leonardo Decaprio..........
Most un-rock and roll head coverings in history
what 3 people dont like this
Hey hey watch out. I'm not from Rome but Cedartown lol.
Sounds just like Dixie Chicks - Earl had to die
thejoerice not really
