PWI was what I consider the foundation of my love for MMO's. I tried all classes (loved Venomancer, Cleric and the aquatic race psychic one) and never got tired of it until I moved onto newer-style games and got older. It was amazing and I remember the world being immersive. Many, many good memories.
I still remembered Perfect World back in 2005-2006. Addicted to it. Still remember my WereFox/Necromancer character named Fook~Mi 🤣🤣🤣 and another Elf Archer character named Lemon. Good old days with my Nightmare guild members. Guild Wars, Holy Hall Dungeon, World Quest, World Event. Grinding so much. Ahhh very² good old days!! Perfect World!!!
Man...the hours spent on PWI only got up to lvl 80. Got so burnt out with Territory wars, but man I met some really cool people and had so much fun. Miss you all that were on Heavens Tear!

About the classes lock to a race, I agreed it more freedom to play as any race and any class. But that doesnt seem like Perfect World. I really like how different races born in different places and developed different combat tactics.

Since this can be possibly considered as a successor of the original Perfect World, I would 100% choose the elven race. My main race in Perfect World was obviously the Winged Elves and if I can run this game then my main race will be an elf once again.
The original perfect world was a pay 2 win nightmare, for example, their best gear was locked behind a paywall... So I will approach this title with a lot of skepticism.

D1 that archer could kill diablo from the hallway, just spam arrows into the room. I had 2 copies of D2+expansion so I could have a mule account for storing and swapping gear that I farmed. Ran 2nd copy on lame laptop. WoW was a dream. No char locks, still my fav crafting. The dk era and bots made me leave. Dwarf hi speed mt goats was my fav for collecting ore. Short wheelbase rarely got hung up in the terrain. PWI. I had so much fun in that game. I had a healer main so I could solo. If I could outheal the damage, I would win. I had some really long fights. I loved the dungeons and my fav thing was 3-D aerial combat cuz there were wings. I should have stayed. BnS. Best fighting system. Played frost FM from the get go. I play relaxed solo and events. The trick to that game is wait until they give you all the good gear when they level up gear/gem tiers. I just bailed. They completely fvcked the FM skills. That WAS my fun. I could pull, push, grab, throw, knock down or freeze stuff. Farming trash mobs was fast and funny. I occasionally bought premium and fashion for the ladies. I miss running pets. WoW I mained a hunter with a wolf and the rare black lion. I didn't main venomancer in pwi, but I ran one 2nd most, and that warlock in WoW juggling those curses and leeches and directing your summons, ready for a pet again.
Lots of people will flock due to nostalgia. Will probably die off in a year or two if the devs are money grubbing rats. Hopefully not though. A few more good MMOs in the market would be great.
actually Im interesting in the game. But I saw the recommended specs of it. I mean.. those specs are a bit over the top. Even Black Desert dont have that high specs. Lets see if it well optimized at the end, or it will lack. But I will keep an eye on the game.
Perfect World was ruined by the pay to win progression system at a degree that you would either have to pay to improve your gear or pay your rent. I hope New Perfect World doesn't make the same mistake. Other than that the game looks promising.
If the classes take after its predecessor then they will mostly be race locked and eventually have their opposite gender equivalent except for the untamed race which will have gender locked classes.
i remember playing age of wulin before the system became pay to win the game mechanics were amazing you could collect scrolls from every sect/School you went to it had amazing dungeons to and compared to the time it came out it was really awesome until it became pay to win and people left I have to give it to the Dev for trying to talk english even though it sounds like he's being tormented to his vocals

Damn this brings back memories - I started playing PWI back in 2007 in college; it was uber-addictive. Met some cool people, what a time.
The combat in this looks pretty good as well as the visual and stunning open world. I'll check it out when it releases and see if it's worth it.

I wonder if I still could get my old character. I was a level 101 mage with full EQ at the time I stopped.

Do you know what all that flashy combat feels like? A netcode hell with a lot of package loss and low ping required to properly combo.

PWI was the only MMO I bothered with. I loved the locked classes. I love the original MMO feel. Have to disagree with that part of your review.
