That's characteristic of the thrash metal genre as as whole. 95% Of all thrash songs ever writen revolve either around the open E or A string. 2. I instantly became a fan. to be honest, Layne Staley made more of an impression on me than anything else ive never seen any like him till this day. that guys voice sent chills up my spine. but Slayer is a great live band. they are Hard Rock on Fucken 11. Slayer could have gone the commercially successful route Metallica took, but no way, they decided to stay true to their roots. when I hear slayer, the similarities are there to Hatfield's voice. but the music is the hardest part of what you would hear in Metallica. just balls to the wall.
Although a few people just HAD TO SAY all of it is just an open e string, I still say slayer is one of, if not, the greatest bands to ever walk the earth.... They are just the epitome of thrash, no question about it. On top of this, without Jeff Hannerman and Kerry King's music we wouldn't have ANY of the bands we have today (a7x, bullet, volbeat, etc)... Too bad it had to evolve into metalcore haha ;)
Key King is a pioneer, along with Jeff Hanneman. Talk shit all you like but his style of playing mixed with the other members of Slayer inspire people the world over, including many other great musicians
Most ppl who criticize Kerry King, Kirk Hammett, and other musicians probably never touched an instrument before. And if they did, they still can't play the stuff they do even at 25% of max speed. Talking shit about others is easy, but to demonstrate it? No one can.
Wow! I actually enjoy slayer and I also play, but this just opened my eyes a bit. Without the vocals, pretty much everything was all the same. Not only same key and notes, but speed, tempo, accents etc., all the same.
hioeo I used the words "pretty much" indicating that it was all close enough to the same that the "differences" were negligible. You said "all the same" "exactly the same." While I would tend to agree with your words, I disagree with your attempted characterization of my words, which in fact contained no absolutes in my description.
shorinteacher yup. youre right. it's all "pretty much" the same and simplistic riffs. all of them are so easy to play. and all sound "pretty much" the same. because that's what they are. pretty much the exact same song with no changes at all. ever. forever. . . pretty much.
Listen here ppl. I'm 48 I lived through it all the metal k. Dial tone on our land lines. These musicians are all God's in heavy metal. Love it all and respect and enjoy it Music connects us all 🤟🤟🤟 Made my choice 666
I love how people say Kerry King sucks because his musical theory knowledge isn't up to par with todays modern shredders... But the fact is, he loves playing guitar so he got a career doing it. He's not trying to be the worlds best guitarist or anything...He's just being Kerry. What a fucking beast \m/, rock on, Kerry....
Jeff and Kerry have very different alternate picking. Kerry plays it from his wrist while Jeff plays from his elbow. I know that picking from the wrist is much better than elbow, but I feel there is more energy required to pick from your elbow. Got to give them the credit though.
I'm not sure what you mean by "songs" that good...that would imply that they are pieces of music. Seriously, Kerry King makes my new guitar students sound like Guthrie Govan.
just so every metal head knows..fast playing isnt impressive with the pick hand...much more impressive with the fretting hand. watch jimmy page, steve vai...a huge number of players who really truely shred. i mean all these riffs sound too similar because you can only hit the same string so much...the fret hand is just chillin
Dude? do you even play guitar? playing fast with your right hands isn't that easy .. and i mean REALLY fast ... just so YOU know, fast right hands is thrash metal!
pieter melkam I play guitar. I've been playing it only for 1 and a half year and I have enough speed to play any Slayer song. So yes, It's easier the right hand. The fretting hand is more difficult because you have to be able to play all those scales correctly, and changing through multiple finger positions without failing anything (while the right hand has only 2 movements, up and down)
David Gomez de los Santos It is dependent entirely on the individual. I can't get my strumming to be adequate for the life of me, but scales and chord shapes have always been a piece of cake.
***** Kerry is a good player to me, but in my opinion, he depends too much on his picking hand. What has always impressed me is the way he can play all those fast riffs for 1/2 hours of concert. Anyway, stop comparing Kerry with Steve Vai, both are great on their playing style, and whoever doesn't agree is just an idiot...
TOTALLY agree. Kinda boring...Dimebag, Iommi and Page have syncopated, groove aspects to their rhythm and melodies which make the songs unique and distinct. Just my opinion.
Sorry to break it to you very accomplished " 0-0-0-0-00----0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 " basement musicians who would surely teach Kerry how to play , but , most the stuff he plays in here are Hanneman´s riffs , so at least get your envious unparalleled musical knowledge and accomplishments to where they belong .

I instantly became a fan. to be honest, Layne Staley made more of an impression on me than anything else ive never seen any like him till this day. that guys voice sent chills up my spine. but Slayer is a great live band. they are Hard Rock on Fucken 11. Slayer could have gone the commercially successful route Metallica took, but no way, they decided to stay true to their roots. when I hear slayer, the similarities are there to Hatfield's voice. but the music is the hardest part of what you would hear in Metallica. just balls to the wall.
fuckin dude is a metal legend.....bow down bithches \m/
Slayer sounds menacing in C# standard
The angel of death middle riff is one of my most favourite riffs ever. It has so much groove and sounds so chilling
Chemical Warfare sounds so good in drop C
Actually C# Standard
Yeah and it's not even in drop lol
Kerry King is a legend
Seeing Kerry King play those evil riffs in front of a cosy fireplace is just priceless!
No one can.
so people are not allowed to have opinions?
exactly, because people like you who hate for the sake of hating should not be allowed to have opinions.
@@MetalGodOfLegend i am still going to have opinions whether you like it or not :^)
I couldn't care less
People can say whatever they want. Go back to your safe space.
Its easy to see/hear why Dave wanted him in megadeth.
I accidentally had my speed on 1.25 and about shit myself
It's Slayer performing live
Hell yeah!! 🎸🔥🤘🏿🔥🎸
I STILL haven't got the chops to play half of that, but it was very entertaining all the same! Thanks Kerry!
These riffs sounded better in standard tuning. You lose a lot of note definition when you start getting into those super-low tunings.
standard tuning sucks balls. Only pussies that use chords use standard tuning
tyler gray oh great, another idiot who doesn't understand music in anyway.
Lol, yes SneakyCubone, you are an idiot that doesn't understand music in anyway. It's about time you admitted it. Now your teachings can truly begin
tyler gray Because apparently any person who tunes in standard "sucks balls"
Who is the idiot here?
Not me, cause I don't play in standard tuning.

Wow! I actually enjoy slayer and I also play, but this just opened my eyes a bit. Without the vocals, pretty much everything was all the same. Not only same key and notes, but speed, tempo, accents etc., all the same.
Yup. All the same. Not a single thing changed. Exactly the same. Nailed it.
hioeo
I used the words "pretty much" indicating that it was all close enough to the same that the "differences" were negligible. You said "all the same" "exactly the same." While I would tend to agree with your words, I disagree with your attempted characterization of my words, which in fact contained no absolutes in my description.
Don't fix what isn't broken, it all works put together, and it isn't simple stuff to play.
*****
How long have you been playing? This is fairly simple stuff.
shorinteacher yup. youre right. it's all "pretty much" the same and simplistic riffs. all of them are so easy to play. and all sound "pretty much" the same. because that's what they are. pretty much the exact same song with no changes at all. ever. forever. . . pretty much.
Listen here ppl.
I'm 48 I lived through it all the metal k.
Dial tone on our land lines.
These musicians are all God's in heavy metal.
Love it all and respect and enjoy it
Music connects us all 🤟🤟🤟
Made my choice 666
I love how people say Kerry King sucks because his musical theory knowledge isn't up to par with todays modern shredders... But the fact is, he loves playing guitar so he got a career doing it. He's not trying to be the worlds best guitarist or anything...He's just being Kerry. What a fucking beast \m/, rock on, Kerry....
does anyone know whats the model of this marshall?
He does have a signature model I think... But it could be a valvestate
In Reign in Blood Spider crawl Anyone if it it's 5 3 2 0, 6 5 3 2 or 6 4 3 2 0 on the E String
5 3 2 0 6 5 3 0
thanks for it there's been a bit confusion on the sites with the tabs
yeah, tabs suck
5 3 2 0 6 4 3 0 watch his fingers... Ring finger does not fret, same shape just a half step up
nvm Have figured it out long time ago
He was playing all of this before you kids were born, so stop talking about the 000000000000 BS.
So he’s above criticism because… he’s old? Not sure what your point is.
These are the sounds that echo throughout the walls down here...
Jeff and Kerry have very different alternate picking. Kerry plays it from his wrist while Jeff plays from his elbow. I know that picking from the wrist is much better than elbow, but I feel there is more energy required to pick from your elbow. Got to give them the credit though.
When Kerry King was in Megadeth for a minute Dave Mustaine taught him all about the flatted fifth and the rest is Slayer history!!!!!!!
playing those riffs are about as difficult as remembering which direction to turn in a nascar race...
thats fair enough but try writing songs that good though
I'm not sure what you mean by "songs" that good...that would imply that they are pieces of music. Seriously, Kerry King makes my new guitar students sound like Guthrie Govan.
ok when they have been touring for 32 years and playing worldwide to millions comment back
Tell us, on which festival do you play this summer?
BookOfSaints the riffs are not hard to remember... ok... try to play as fast as they play for 90 minutos non-stop... at the age of 50
000-000-000-000
The basis of about 10 billion thrash rythmn riffs. What's your point?
+Alex Udin THANKS FOR THE TABS
This video changed my life.
he was the first one to play like this thats why hes legendary. the music all sounds the same but if you like one then you like them all
If you ever feel useless just remember that you could be Kerry King’s high e string
just so every metal head knows..fast playing isnt impressive with the pick hand...much more impressive with the fretting hand. watch jimmy page, steve vai...a huge number of players who really truely shred. i mean all these riffs sound too similar because you can only hit the same string so much...the fret hand is just chillin
Dude? do you even play guitar? playing fast with your right hands isn't that easy .. and i mean REALLY fast ... just so YOU know, fast right hands is thrash metal!
pieter melkam I play guitar. I've been playing it only for 1 and a half year and I have enough speed to play any Slayer song. So yes, It's easier the right hand. The fretting hand is more difficult because you have to be able to play all those scales correctly, and changing through multiple finger positions without failing anything (while the right hand has only 2 movements, up and down)
David Gomez de los Santos
It is dependent entirely on the individual.
Wow! A true master at work
The ultimate proof that you don't need to make things complex for them to be amazing. The stuff he writes is simple, but absolutely badass.
