I think the follow count is based on all total properties combined. so you have GMM, then their personal channels, clip channels, any other social media following, ect... The large number makes some sense but it's also very VERY inflated numbers from double or triple counting people

Can't do much about the censorship but that's just YT as a platform. But you can still find just as many amazing content creators now as ever. This mentality is a lot like "they don't make good music anymore!" to me. You just have to look for it off the beaten path. There aren't less amazing people now than the 2010s, YT algorithms just buried them under a pile of Logan Pauls and Mr Beasts. Nick DiRamio, Münecat, GunnarTV, The Welsh Twins, Pinely, Primink, ZoeUnlimited... Just a few underrated channels giving me life rn. I have more to get me through the dredgery of life than ever and I find new gems every time I look :)

The UA-cam experience is somehow better AND worse now. Like, I love when a video that I wouldn’t have known how to search for gets recommended to me and now I have a new channel to follow. But it’s also SO overwhelming to constantly be fed more and more content. To not be able to disable shorts (on mobile; I have Chrome extensions to hide them on desktop) if you want to not get sucked in. I’m not opposed to UA-camrs making money but I also miss the days of not “taking a moment to thank today’s sponsor” or be asked on the community tab what I want to see because otherwise it might not get enough engagement to be profitable. I can appreciate the improvements made to the platform but I think, ONCE AGAIN, capitalism is making things crummy.

I think the follow count is based on all total properties combined. so you have GMM, then their personal channels, clip channels, any other social media following, ect... The large number makes some sense but it's also very VERY inflated numbers from double or triple counting people

Can't do much about the censorship but that's just YT as a platform. But you can still find just as many amazing content creators now as ever. This mentality is a lot like "they don't make good music anymore!" to me. You just have to look for it off the beaten path. There aren't less amazing people now than the 2010s, YT algorithms just buried them under a pile of Logan Pauls and Mr Beasts.

The UA-cam experience is somehow better AND worse now. Like, I love when a video that I wouldn’t have known how to search for gets recommended to me and now I have a new channel to follow. But it’s also SO overwhelming to constantly be fed more and more content. To not be able to disable shorts (on mobile; I have Chrome extensions to hide them on desktop) if you want to not get sucked in. I’m not opposed to UA-camrs making money but I also miss the days of not “taking a moment to thank today’s sponsor” or be asked on the community tab what I want to see because otherwise it might not get enough engagement to be profitable. I can appreciate the improvements made to the platform but I think, ONCE AGAIN, capitalism is making things crummy.
