I just stumbled on this video. STI Mikey tuned my 04 WRX 11-12 years ago when I was a broke college kid. I was lucky there was a meet up where he came and tuned 5-6 cars for an affordable price. Unfortunately my car was parked and a kid under the influence crashed into it and totaled the car a few years back but if Mikey is reading the comments I really appreciated you tuning the car and glad your doing great. I've had a Mikey tune on my subaru for 10 years and still going. I'll definitely be going back to him once I cross over to the B58 platform. Its great to see and hear some real world numbers, and figures, of what it actually takes to make a car go fast on the track.

I've been looking for a video like this since I got my '21 3.0 a couple years ago. I have HKS downpipes but my ECU is a locked one which has kept me from a tune for so long. I've notice prices come down further and further to unlock though. When I got mine they couldn't even unlock stateside, I think it was only somewhere in Russia that offered it. Hearing this is motivating. I don't want a drag car, just a street car that can beat pretty much anything that comes up. Will go meth and ecu instead of turbo>meth>ecu most likely now.

His E-Tuning methodology is solid. After just three iterations, we started cranking the boost. I don't believe I ever saw knock during the tuning process. Fast turnaround and almost always available. That was my experience in 2016.

Tuned by him now and my car Supra doesn’t run good at all. Had a bad experience with him when I paid for a remote tune on the dyno. Hopefully he treats his customers better now.

About breaking in the car aggressively..there have been articles and info about how the "drive it like you stole it" method is better than baby-ing it in. Somthing about the way the piston rings seal/seat against the cylinder bore or something like that.

Very informative. I usually do Dyno but on my last tune, I went street for drivability, which made a difference.

The fact that the notorious epa overreach is news to you is the reason its such a big deal. Its an extremely serious problem that such a small margin of us enthusiasts are aware of. Auto manufacturers, parts manufacturers, parts sellers, calibrators, shops, end users, all under attack without clear language on what line we can walk.
You can think diesel brodozer coal rolling dickheads for this, by the way. Riled up the EPA and ruined the fun for the rest of us.
The EPA doesn’t know wtf they’re talking about in the first place lmao…..A Catless Car with a really good Tune from a “Reputable Tuner” will produce less Emission related Gases compared to a Stock Car with a Cat from the Factory especially when the Catless Car’s on Full E85/C85 or just a Basic Ethanol Fuel Blend….ALSO ELECTRIC CARS CAUSE MORE EMISSIONS THAN COMBUSTION ENGINES WHICH IS A SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN FACT LMFAO This makes me think that the people working at the EPA are completely Uneducated/obvious on Basic Supply Chain Economics outlining how Electric Cars are Built, where the Materials come from, and where the Power to Charge these Cars originates from LOL…..The EPA at this point is just a group of Mindless Governmental Pawns that’ll believe anything the “Mainstream Scientific Studies” say mainly because THEY PAID FOR THOSE “MAINSTREAM STUDIES” IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!

Here’s a reason for break-in period.
If you are going to change the oil every 3-5 thousand miles, then yes you should break it in because small particles left over from manufacturing will build in the oil filter, which may affect oil pressure. If you change it often, in the first couple thousand miles, doesn’t matter how hard you beat on it.

How much $$$ to run about 600whp and what mods for b58 gen 1???
Tune, turbo, fueling. If you want to do it sustainably you’d need more (port injection, reflex kit, cooling, big turbo vs hybrid). But bare minimum, probably around 6k. If you want to do it right, closer to 10-12k.
This doesn’t include that fact that around that amount of power, your trans will start to slip and you’ll need to get it rebuilt. That’s about 5k.
u need to support the trans first, hybrid turbo, tu pump from gen 2 cars

This dudes wrong on a lot of this. The s58 made 1000hp with the Red Bull brothers on their drift car that was just torn down by bmw m on UA-cam and given a clean bill of health on a stock bottom end. The s58 has a superior oil sump, larger coolant passageways, larger oil drains, a physically wider block with more external reinforcement and forged pistons. It’s a superior motor if you’re trying to make power. The only reason the b58 supras are running these times is because it’s like 400-500lbs lighter.
There are zero people debating buying an S58 vs B58 as a crate motor, so your argument is dumb as hell, the car it comes in absolutely matters. Compression ratios are also a thing. Sound like a dip who bought an M4 and is big sad you get gapped by B58s that sound 10x better doing it.

I have to agree here, having owned an m340 before I bought my g82. The power potential is far higher imo on the s58 for a multitude of reasons. Only thing I do agree on is that the supporting mods, tunes, parts are far more available for the b58 platform.
Mike spoke from his personal experience here, but the Rick and Ranny interview had better accuracy with respect to the platforms if you're looking for that.
