I have a video on Assassin's Creed: Rogue too! Check it out at ua-cam.com/video/r-sVx-4zsRY/v-deo.html. Also released some shirts if you're looking for comparable drip to a Caribbean storm www.whitelight.store
this is what Ubisoft always lacks: bad ragdoll physics, boring and repetitive missions, very few good quests, lack of detail, less blood and wounds, every game is the same, they should invest more in the game ..I am a Fan of R * I like Ubi's game but I don't like what I just mentioned. They were so close to have a super product but sad because they chose quantity over quality.
I still remember my 11 year old self sitting in front of my small tv singing shanties with my crew as we sailed to Nassau. I miss those days where it was easy being a child with a fantasy of being a pirate.
There is something about this game. Sailing around the caribean when the sun is shining and the crew is singing. Whales jumping out of the water next to you. It's meditating in a way.
I literally just bought this game for my ps4, I have played it on the 360 since launch but I swear I never get tired of this, I absolutely love this game.
My grandpa often used to sit next to me as I played games. He would often make comments like "that little dude is always running! Doesn't he get tired?" whenever I played a Zelda game (or any third-person game where you walk/run a lot). My family is Cuban, and my grandfather was an avid fisherman. He used to tell me so many stories about his youth, when he used to go hunting and fishing with his father. Although this was way after the age of piracy in the caribbean, I still remember enjoying hearing the stories of pirates gramps used to tell. He, of course, heard them from his father, who heard them from who-knows-who... Being a fisherman, the games gramps would enjoy the most were those that heavily featured the sea. Oh, he was one cantankerous old person; The kind that sees video games as a waste of time... But oh did he like watching the seafaring games haha... Although he didn't much care for the aesthetic, he seemed to like Wind Waker. There was something about sailing through the Great Sea that felt so good... and I think it connected with him. The swelling, adventurous music, the waves, the horizon. Gramps passed away about a year prior to Black Flag's release and... well... I really miss him. I wish we'd have shared another moment or two talking about adventures in the caribbean. This game always reminds me of him, and I feel like that made the journey all that more emotional to me.
that ending actually made me cry. when edward looks over to the table and sees all his friends, the weight of the story hit me all at once. such a wonderful story.
The level of emotion the end of this game brought out of me was shocking. I never expected a pirate game to make me tear up, but I did when he sees all the faces of his lost friends at the table.
I'm so glad to hear that you felt this way. Seeing Edward's crewman gently bring Jenny to see her father made me smile and brought a legitimate tear to my eye. We've all finished that scene multiple times, but something about it hit different today. I'm so happy to hear you felt that way too about the last scene
@@odioalospoopers Actually Origins / Odyssey / Valhalla play completely different compared to unity / syndicate and all other older assassins creed games. From the point of gameplay black flag feels much more like unity / syndicate than origins / odyssey / valhalla. And honestly syndicate was boring compared to Origin. The world was pretty damn nice but watching flamingos in egypt is pretty damn nice too and the gameplay is much more interesting in origin because they tried something new. Odyssey felt too grindy for me and every part of the world kinda looked the same. I did not enjoy it so much. I really enjoyed origins. In my opinion it is one of the best ac games ever from immersion and gameplay mechanics.
@@jeanjacquesrousseau1955 I feel like they hit the nail on the head with Origins as I felt it played so much better than Odyssey, in terms of map size and story as you gotta have a compelling story or at least some form of a good one and then the map size, I mean I sure do love a large world. But sometimes its incredibly tedious such as the one with Odyssey. I have yet to play Valhalla and I sure hope to play it soon.
I was telling my Grandfather about this game, since he's always had a fascination with pirates. When I mentioned Anne Bonny, He turned to me and said "Boy, you do know that Anne Bonny was your 8th great-grandmother, right? I didn't believe him, thinking it was another one of his jokes. Until he pulled out old diaries of Anne bonny's that had been handed down the generations. So, yay one of my great-grandmothers was a Infamous female Irish Pirate!
@@erstenamefamiliename7988 Unfortunately, no. My Grandfather hasn't released and I doubt he'll ever release them to the public. I can tell you that the diaries can be at times very difficult to read as most of the pages have holes in them from book worms and from iron gall burns. It is indeed enlightening to read about her life. However not much about her life is known after her last diary entry. She and one of my great-grandfathers had 2 children together but when they tried settling down, she found it too relaxing and "missed the action". So one day she left and never returned home. My forefather never took another wife("as all other women lacked her fire") and in one of his journal entries he said that every night he prayed for her safety and that Anne would find the happiness that she could find at home. Passed that it remains a mystery. A few members of my family have tried to find out what happened to her, but to no avail. They eventually came the conclusion that perhaps not knowing was for the better.
They are releasing Skulls and Bones. For me this game is a good pirate game, but a bad AC, not worth the remastered, just release a proper pirate game like Ubisoft is going to do.
I think it’s very interesting how this ended up being in my opinion the most fun Assassins Creed. Pirate themed games have always seemed to be hard to execute and I think Assassins Creeds sometimes lack of identity helped it here in people able to just throw the assassin character right into pirate life and it worked. Gonna start playing this again
I personally feel BF's only great thing is it's story (It's one of the few AC games to actually explore its protagonist's relationship to the creed, something the devs pointed out), and even then 3 and Rogue outdo it. It's a barely passable game 4's gameplay isn't the best. Combat is the same boring OP instakill stuff since Brotherhood. Stealth in all forms is still basic. The map has far less interesting things going than 3 which had side stories and quests scattered about is cities and wilderness. Sailing got boring a few hours in because it wasn't expanded much. In 3, sailing was a side activity that was occasionally used. So its shallowness wasn't an issue given the brevity and setpieces that involved it. But 4 makes 60% of the game sailing without adding that much to justify it being 60% of the game. Sure, you can sail around and engage in ship battles, but you could already do that in 3. What few additions and improvements 4 added don't add enough to make it interesting. Ship combat is the same dance every time. Even exploration gets boring since all you can really do is sail around to find collectibles rather than actual stories and events. It would take until AC Ody to finally do that and make sailing mechanically more fun. This piece goes into much more detail on the sailing. mieckfram.blogspot.com/2019/06/a-critique-of-ac4-black-flags-sailing.html
@@FraserSouris Brotherhood's combat has always been the same along with AC1 and AC 2 until AC revelations. I would assume you are one of those pay to win gamers because you have to explore and sail to get upgrades and cosmetics which makes the game significantly better. I never ever remember a time playing on a ship on ac 3 whenever I am free, I only got to play on a ship once. You can even travel to islands to find animals to skin, you never played the game before up to this day.
@@troll-rw3tb AC3 is a better game because: -1 It has far more varied side quests that often have stories behind them. See the Homestead and Assassin missions and Frontiersmen's Tales -2 The world has far more to actually explore. 4's is mostly ocean that you can't "interact" with, and copy and paste islands. -3 Ships with their barebone mechanics aren't overused. 3 saves ship missions as optional side activities which fits their features better.
Just for comparison: Black Flag came out in the same year as GTA V The difference is, that no one is talking about black flag anymore - despite beeing a very good game that I enjoyed a lot.
Regardless how good ANY assassins creed game is people won’t talk about it as much as gta, remember gta comes out once every 6-7 years maybe, assassins creed every year or 2. Not shitting on Ac I love the franchise I’m just saying.
Cyber Leader 16-914 I don’t cry but that is the only time I’ve ever cried at a game or movie or tv show anything like that but I still get really sad my dad introduced me to the series around when 3 came out and black flag was the third I ever played my first was 2 then revelations then four and four hit harder than the rest combined and still does
I will never forget the assassin's contract on a small island where you can't sneak up on the target for the intended target flees by ship and subsequent chase. I will never forget it because I chased the target without remorse through the island town. Efficiently dodging every obstacle I actually got to the end of the dock while he hopped on his ship. But I was too late. The ship pulls away from the dock. But you best believe I jumped the ever increasing gap to just barely cling onto the large lantern hanging off the back of the ship. I took the crew out quietly behind him, before slowly walking up behind him and collecting my reward. I tried to recreate it on a second playthrough later. I was never successful. But I will never forget the first time.
Arguably the most visually appealing Assassin’s Creed to date. The lush green jungles, islands, crystal clear blue water, the ship battles, stealth mechanics and underwater exploration just added to the gameplay experience. Terrific game. And arguably the least formulaic of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which is probably the reason why it’s the best since 2.
Emperor Reign odyssey is my favourite AC game with black flag seconds but odyssey is genuinely breathtaking at maximum graphics and is by far the most visually appealing game I’ve ever played
Michael Gonzales I don’t think it gets praised too much per se, I think it was good for its time. It just hasn’t aged perfectly but it was released 11 years ago after all. Still has the best character and story of any ass creed game to date though.
When this game came out, I was 19 y/o and just moved out. For the first time in my life I have moved and it was quite a big one. From a small village to a one million inhabitants city. I was a little shocked and overwhelmed by the size and that game helped me out in that time :') It was a great game on my PS3 and I remember finding the graphics "stunning". I was last summer when I revisited the game and saw how bad it looks for todays standards.
Bad? Hm....just bought it and I would say it is acceptable. Graphics might not be as detailed as today's games, but the art style is really good. What is getting on my nerves is the clunky movement (CTRL+Space = Jump, really?) and horrbile combat.
@@maltimoto Jump is just Space. I dont know how Ctrl comes into the picture for you. Ctrl is almost exclusively for crouch or prone and none of that is in this game. And the combat can be repetitive but I dont see how thats horrible. Hold E for counter and Space for break defense, LMB for attack/finisher. You can clown an entire army with just these 3 keys. There are some pretty cool combos you can do with the 2ndary gadgets but they are optional. If you are going back to a game that came out 8 years ago, and expecting RDR2 level of fluidity in movement then you are just setting yourself up for disappointment
I wouldn’t say that it looks bad, it just looks old. Of course it is nearly 8 years old which means it’ll look old. It’s really the PC controls that aged terribly.
"Why on earth I've elected to talk about the sixth installment of a franchise out of the blue? Uhhh, there's a simple answer to that... I rewatched Pirates of the Caribbean." Man if this ain't me
it's def because of trends. Rn since no new games are coming out (or barely any due to Corona) a lot of these youtubers are going back and looking at the most popular (dare I say nostalgic) games of this past decade. Also another major major youtuber Jospeh Anderson does this type of content so he already knows there is a market for it.
@@Whitelight Alright, since you responded to me directly I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I just generally get skeptical about what "UA-camrs" claim. The new generation of assassins creed games are very far from the originals but I do think they are good games. They really did have to deviate from the assassins creed formula or it would become more stale than it already was.
@@luallual8180 sometimes things change just keep the good memories in us and call them the originals and the new games the new generation from the series

The ending hit me hard. I started the game not caring about the story and just wanting to free roam as a pirate but ended it feeling genuinely attached to Edward and wishing the narrative would go on.

So they are supposed to be dead. Blackbeard, Hornigold, Rackham and Mary are dead but I never saw Vane or Bonet die. Did I miss something?
@ Vane was killed by edward after rackham took over the ship and during the prison break one where Mary dies you can hear guards talking about Stede Bonnet's death.
Was just about to play it again today. This game and unity was what made me love the entire Assassin's Creed saga. It's a great series that Ubisoft just keeps on adding more to and I love it.
"Assassin's Creed 4 has a very long tutorial" My friend, let me introduce you to Assassin's Creed 3, the tutorial in 4 seems like nothing in comparison
@@devilsadvocate4081 Yeah We get to play as Connor and finally get to see him in some action like 5 or 6 sequences later and the actual story if we count out Haytham and his early age sequences that we got to see was just 4 or 5 sequences
I was 5 when it came out and I vividly remember going to school trying to act like him for about 2 years and showing off my moves to my first grade teacher and then having my friend run over the swings and pretend fighting a hundred badguys with the music blasting in my head
This game will always hold a special place in my heart. I beat it over the course of the only weekend in college I happened to ever have with my roommates away and no class simultaneously for a few days. So I would get stoned, order some of my favorite food, and have this amazing immersive experience playing it in isolation and falling deep into the gorgeous world. And it really felt like the last hurrah of being young. When I didn't have the weight of adult life pressing on my shoulders and always a constant nag in my brain I could be doing something productive, family or work wise, which makes it hard to ever truly just be in the present. The last time I could just let go, and for a few days get completely lost in the fantasy. The story made me cry at the end and I was so into the gameplay I beat all the extra content. Didn't even understand how to use the heavy shot so my ship battles against the legendary ships were brutal. I'm so glad I chose this game to play that time. The story even resonated with those feelings. Wanting to live truly free with no responsibilities but learning at the end it's not a sustainable. Going from being young and ideolistic to calmer and adult. This video truly captured what made Black Flag so beloved by many people. Even though it isn't perfect it's a game like no other as well. And while I find it a bit tedious to replay fully now due to various issues and dated mechanics and graphics, I still love occasionally dropping in to sail the seas with my crew as they cheer when I take the helm.
I can relate so much to what you said about being an adult and playing games verses when we were younger and playing games feels so different now because you can’t ever be as fully immersed in it as before because you know your wasting hours of time that could be put to better use. And even when doing it as a hobby just to relax it never feels the same as when you were a teen/child/young adult. Also btw what did you get a degree in and did you find a job in that field or did you end up in a different type of career? I’m just very curious.
It's not "idealistic" if the ideal was impossible to begin with. "Idealistic" fundamentally means that the "ideal" is possible, but difficult to achieve.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood will always be my favorite. While Edward is a good character, his story lacks what Ezio excels in which is motive. Like you said, he is a drunkard and his wife left him, inspiring his sea travels even further, but Ezio was a true assassin. Ezio's story started with him being a young, dumb idiot just like Edward in AC2, that is until he watched his whole male family die in front of him because of the Templars. Ezio first took on the Assassin mantle because he was seemingly forced to not only to protect his family, but to avenge his brothers and father. Through most of the start of his Assassin journey in AC2 Ezio travels throughout renaissance Italy, which by the way is another plus to me because Italy in my opinion is a much better setting than the Caribbean, and he meets multiple secretive powerful figures that teach him the ways of what they are best at; La Volpe & Theft, Paola & Blending, Bartolomeo & Fighting, ie. Throughout AC2 Ezio is using each of these teacher's guidance to track down members of the Templar Order along the way and also finding many secrets. The revenge story mixed with the unprecedented guidance and maturity of Ezio makes AC2 my 2nd favorite game itself. Before I go into AC Brotherhood though, I must mention it is slightly unfair to compare 2 games to 1 but AC Brotherhood isn't nearly as good without understanding AC2 which is how it is meant to be. Anyways, when Rodrigo Borgia escapes in AC2 and it is revealed to Ezio that the people who have been mentoring him have been secret assassin's along, it becomes clear that the story is far from over that game ends with my favorite part of the series introducing the Isu and their connection to the World. AC Brotherhood takes what AC2 did well in terms of story and character and does it better. It begins with Ezio escaping the tomb where he discovered the Isu and realizing he allowed Rodrigo Borgia, now the Pope, to escape. It takes another step when Monterrigioni is attacked and Uncle Mario is killed in order for the Apple of Eden to be stolen by Cesare Borgia. Another plus to AC Brotherhood is the villain/Templar tree excelling. Ezio ends up in Rome where the majority of the story takes place and while I must say it is less diverse than the first map or BF's map, it is a perfect fit for the story. In Rome Ezio has to regain his ability after being severely damaged in Monterrigioni. Throughout the game Ezio not only aligns with new people who teach him even further, but he slowly takes over the city of Rome from the Borgia's. This concept really helped the game excel in my opinion allowing you to revive shops and businesses that had been shut down by the Borgias and earn revenue from these places. Not to mention collectibles and side objectives weren't obnoxious like they are in many games including BF. Ezio also discovers secrets of the city that help inspire mini plot lines that earn you unique armor and rewards. Not to mention, the innovation of the combat system introducing new weapons and techniques such as the crossbow made the game much more new feeling. Lastly, the character development, setting, and combat are all great, but the story is what gets me the most. You get to watch as you slowly cause mistrust and betrayal within the Borgia family and get to finish the main villain, Cesare Borgia, in quite a poetic way. Overall, AC Brotherhood is the best in my opinion because it's plot line is almost flawless, it's villain tree is extensive and deep, it's combat and parkour are excellent, and Ezio's character is brought to the climax of his life. He starts as a young, foolish man seeking revenge and this game finishes with him as a middle aged, mature and skilled assassin who now leads the Creed. Not only is his character amazing in that sense, but it does set up AC Revelations which brings his character from young and foolish to the complete opposite. Like i said before, it is unfair to judge 2 games vs 1 but those 2 games could basically be put together as one bringing Ezio and the plot line in full circle from revenge to maintaining what he has fought for all those years.
The most intriguing part of Black Flag is its reverse story telling. In all of the other franchises, the protagonist loses all of their valued ones in the beginning of the story as they thrive for revenge which brings them in contact with the Assassin's. Edward on the other hand was the opposite, he had everything he wanted and found more valuable things and loved ones before joining the Assassin's. He only joined almost at the end of the story after he had lost everything. The things he gained and lost during his journey felt all the more impactful.
@ Vane was hanged at some point after Edward escaped the prison. The last we saw him directly was when he was dragged inside the prison. Either way, Edward's friendship with Vane ended on Isla Providencia when he became even crazier than he already had been. While you learn about Bonnet's death from the conversation of 2 guards. The 2 guards make fun of him saying that he was caught in Barbados and was hung while crying and begging for his life.
I was dedicated to getting 100% on the game, but it softlocked and left me at 99% completion. In order to feel better about myself I had find random man o wars and sink them with my fully decked out jackdaw
Same. There was only one chest I had to get but it wouldn't let me. I even googled the exact location of the said chest and went there and stood over it and nothing happened, no prompt or anything. I was gutted :/

I gotta say, this is my favorite game and your essay on it might be my favorite video essay. I find myself coming back to watch this entire thing again, when I feel like I have forgotten a sufficient portion of the video and need a refresher. Brilliant stuff
Erif G I remember when the finally beat the game and that song played I felt tears roll down my face, I silently started crying, then my dad walked in and just laughed when he saw why I was crying, “It’s just a game Sean, calm down”, I then made him play the entire game and he started crying after he beat the game
I thought I was the only one. The emotion and power behind the song not only captures Edwards whole journey. But it captures the happiness in the pain "Of all the money that ere I had, i spent it in good company"
When I was in Highschool I got into a massive argument with my friend about wether or not Edward was a actual assassin. His main argument? “He didn’t have an official ceremony”. That’s the day I learned a lot of people don’t actually understand Edwards story.
Yeah, I don't get when people say this isn't a good "Assassin's Creed" game. As WhiteLight said, the pirate dream is similar to the Assassin's dream but it is a more corrupted and selfish version. Edward is able to learn the difference because of the time he spends with the pirates and assassins and it is integral to his character development.
i think its all a matter of preference. having played every game in the franchise, my favorite games in the franchise are the least assassiny ones, because 1.i hate FORCED stealth and 2. the whole creed part of assassins creed is really dumb in my opinion. "nothing is forbidden and everything permitted" nonsense... why keep saying that if its a huge lie and this is really just freedom versus order? i absolutely loved black flag because, well you're running around being a pirate, not some morality murder police. i loved odyssey your a merc in the middle of a massive war, and dont even have the dumb edge lord assassin blade. they are great. revelations was the best of the ezio trilogy because it ended with him going "man screw this assassin stuff.... i quit" heck i liked 3 because connor tended to just charge into the fights rather than sneak around. i guess what im trying to say is that the "assassin" stuff i feel is gimmiky nonsense getting in the way of my universal studios theme park ride through a historical period, lol. whereas other people probably have the very opposite opinion, they love all the edgy assassin stuff, so their least favorite games are the same ones that are my favorites. i mean im well aware that most people disliked 3, and odyssey got rather mixed reviews. so if they say "black flag is not a good assassins creed game" its probably because you spend 95% of the game as just a pirate, and its far more character focused than about the big templar=bad assassin=good conflict and reasons like that. which is coincidentally the exact same reasons i love the shit out of it. make sense? or did i ramble too much? lol
E. Corellius Your good man, everyone has there opinion. I love the stealth and the story’s. The kenway family will always be my favorite cause of how they were both brought into the creed (and a son who who was brainwashed into the order). Syndicate and unity also being favorites cause of the story’s. I played origins and odyssey both once and hated them. Not even gonna touch Valhalla. Some people like just killing in historical periods. And there’s people who love the older games because of a good story and the hidden blade.
Honestly, I love the bugs in Black Flag. Most aren't game breaking, and actually get a laugh out of me. I once kicked an enemy through a mast and created a singularity, spaghettifying him.
"graphically dated" I feel like 7th gen is aging pretty nicely visually. Running.them all maxed out in 4K 60FPS really lets what graphics they do have really shine. The leap from 2000 to 2010 was quite a bit more dramatic than the leap from 2010 to 2020. Black Flag still looks pretty good to me!
I couldn't agree more with you on this! The Palm trees, the sand, the vegetation that covers the ground, the lighting in the jungle, and not to mention how ripply and reflective the water is. All of the textures have an amount of detail that holds up to even today's standards. I particularly like the "water drops on the screen" effect when you dive in the sea or are sailing in a rainstorm. This effect is really well done, I think. It bends the light in a realistic way which adds a subtle amount of depth to the interface. And I must say, the lighting in the game is something I noticed especially. I remember this one time I was sailing west from Grand Cayman, and it must have been the dawn because the whole atmosphere had this misty glow about it which lasted for little while before breaking into daylight. Not to mention the cool god rays you get when sunlight finds its way into a tunnel on Great Inagua or Tulum. I seriously can't fault it. Aside from all my praise for the game's forward-thinking graphics, I have a bone to pick with some funky geometry. I noticed this primarily on structures. For example: -The parts where round things like sticks or posts look like they're glitched into whatever they're attached to -Any rope that's wound around anything wooden (jungle structures, masts, docks) is a polygon and not a circle -The climbable trees are distinct, rigid 3D polygonal shapes with texturing to make 'em look like wood -The ends of boards and planks are always clean-sawn, perfectly flat planes. You don't get to see any roughness in them. -Rain effect on the ground shows up below thatched rooves Other than those things, ACIV graphics stay remarkably strong seven years later. I'll be sad when the day comes where my new video game X is indisputably better than good ol' Black Flag!
Still remember the time when I tried to dive off the top of a man of war and managed to get Edward to swan dive right onto the deck of the ship still one of the funniest and most infuriating moments I’ve ever had in gaming
I also remember this guy was behind an explosive Barrell and I was almost Dead so I used my Four pistols to kill the last four guys and I fucking shot the barrels and exploded!!!
This was the first game that really made me want to complete it just because of one thing, great inagua. It had the renovations which were enjoyable and it had the part in the cave where you could see your gold pile up as you got more. I was incentivized to complete the side activities because they could help with my own personal goal of being the richest Damn pirate ever.
I’ve never wanted a remastered version of any game more than I do for this one. If they ever release an updated black flag I won’t hesitate to drop whatever I’m playing and dive right back in.
@@andypandy4607 it look great but the game run poorly due to bad optimization. I have ryzen 5 1600 and 1080ti and could barely keep up 60 fps. I know r5 1600 is a bit of a bottleneck for 1080ti, but its shouldnt run that bad

Something I only learned very recently, Holding the key usually reserved for "Drop" when on a ledge while running toward something you could vault over, has Edward actually vault over it, which is something the game does not tell you at all as far as I know, it's just something you have to figure out. I only did it by accident cause I was playing Unity before and it didn't hit me until a little while later that I did that.
I can tell you now its in every single game from AC III :) And AC III mentioned it in their pop up tutorials which I can confirm because I am té playing it now :) same thing with a fall roll when you falling from the greater hights you hold A on Xbox or X on PS and he'll do a roll I think but dont know when this was first introduced I know for sure in AC III Haytham and Connor do this Automaticaly.
I’ve played this game twice through, 100% both times. When I was 12 I loved this game more than anything, the first game I was allowed when all my friends were playing Grand Theft Auto. I was too young to appreciate the story but the gameplay really made up for it. The badass finishing combos, chains and counters, met with the incredible naval combat leads to a game I still come back to today on my old Xbox 360. The exploration was amazing too, uncovering smugglers dens and outposts, forts and caves. Watched the whole video mate thanks for making my day
100%'d on Xbox 360 when I was 12 too. I managed to somewhat have a sense of admiration and respect for the story after replaying the missions a few years later. Best pirate game.
Same! I played it when I was like 11-12, also as my first "non-child" game. And I didn't really understand the story as my english at that time was horrible, but the gameplay was brilliant, and I came back some years after, and my english was significantly better. The story made so much more sense, and I have huge respect for story, and is still to this day one of the only games that made me so emotional. :)
I related to everything you said from the 100%ing twice to the not being allowed to play GTA5 only couldnt relate to the xbox i played this on ps3 then ps4 then PC
This video had me laughing at myself because I remembered I went the whole game not knowing how to use a Heavy Shot or even know it existed. I used to consistently get pissed off because the enemy had this amazing mechanic that I couldn't use, lol. ALAS, it made for a great hurdle to overcome and made all the naval battles towards the end of the game super hard.
LOL I know what you mean. I know this comment is months old but I never much thought about what the heavy shot actually was up until I tried to take down the legendary Man O' Wars. The moment I used it I facepalmed through my skull.
In my first playthrough I forgot that you can aim your shots. So I always just used heavy shots till the ammo ran out, then used the normal shot without aiming😅
Quick question for everyone here: When/did you find out that - when a bunch of guards run out to block a hallway and raise their swords to attack - the 100% funniest and sometimes most speedrun friendly option is to straight up jump at them and act like you're Stinkmeaner from the Boondocks with a kick straight to their chest? I didn't get the sad feeling from the ending back then when I play this game. I was just a kid. But now I'm in my last year of Junior high school and maybe I will play this game all over again. But I hate the parts when you have to sneak with your ship, it's just frustrating.

Ooooooof that ending that you played all the way through weighted on me with the same overwhelming emotion that it did when I saw it for the first time. Thank you for putting this together, it was a trip
Anne singing The Parting Glass while Edward sees all of his fallen friends, followed by Edward meeting his daughter, was an amazing and beautiful way to end the game.

It hits a thousand times deeper than anything else in the entire franchise. It's remarkable how simple and yet brilliant and beautiful the storytelling is.
It’s insane how they tied black flag, rogue,AC3 and Unity all together. Play black flag, rogue and AC3 & unity in that order. It’s not the way they released but it’s the correct timeline-order to play them in. The end of Rogue stunned me.. it really gives you a whole different perspective on the series. They way they released the games made the story a little difficult to follow at the time of each release but I highly recommend playing them in order
the ending of ac4 was also a stab into the heart, seeing all our freinds back sitting on the table, realizing they are gone was a truly heartbreaking moment i even shared a tear on the ending scene after seeing every friend u lost during the game

I hope in the future we can get a pirate game that is similar to this minus the assassins side of the story.
@@arungd7 Yeah Ezio trilogy was amazing too, they just didn't capture me like black flag did. Black Flag was a game I could replay several times, which is something no other Assassin's creed game has been able to do for me
This game has the best ending of all games ever, after sailing with edward, bonding with him, you understand what he feels about himself and his friends, and in the final moments when Anne sings that song, and you see all his lost comrades at the table you cant help but feel sad, yet it is a good sad, you see those who you and edward considered companions, considered friends. You see that he misses them yet is happy/ resolute about them, and his daughter. Honestly this was such a good game.
The last people who thought that the world was flat was people who sailed on the Sea. At most they thought the world was a cylinder but always knew it wasn't flat.
The first time I saw this game was at my friend's house, when he was showing me his new Xbox 360. I was fascinated by the graphics and the freedom of an open world game of such a scale, because the only games that I'd played up to that point were Nintendo DS games and a few old PC games such as GTA Vice City and Counter Strike: 1.6 Needless to say, I kept on going back to my friends' house to play the game, and we'd often stay up till 4 in the morning, trying to beat the game. I found that I was more adept at the naval battle sections, while he was better at the combat and stealth mission segments. Our favorite sea shanties were "Leave Her Johnny" and "Roll Boys Roll," and we'd often turn the shanties on and sing along while we travelled from one island to another. This game, in turn, introduced me to the Assassin's Creed franchise, and I was absolutely obsessed with the games for a very long time. (Around 4 years, I'd say) The stories about a grand international conspiracy containing a feud between two shady, illuminati-like organizations blew my mind at the time, and the freedom of movement and exploration was like nothing I'd ever seen in a video game before. Needless to say, I had an extremely limited knowledge concerning video games at the time, and playing the AC games opened up a whole new world for me. After my friend moved away, I went to the game store to buy every Assassin's Creed game that I could get my hands on, starting from Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, 2, Black Flag, and Rogue. My potato laptop at the time could only run the more recent games at an average of 20 fps, but I still managed to play through the games without much difficulty. I became more and more obsessed with the franchise, reading into the lore and the story of the series and drawing fanart, making hidden blades and constantly talking to my friends about how awesome the series was. I remember this one time I dismantled my mom's kitchen knife and built a functioning hidden blade out of a few pieces of cardboard and hot glue (Well, I say 'functioning' but what I really mean is that it could be activated with a string attached to a ring), and my mom got so angry that she threw it away as soon as she saw what I was playing with. It took me a day to make, and it was beautiful, and I was pissed. I also remember begging my mom to buy me an Edward Kenway cosplay, but it was extremely expensive and I eventually had to settle for an improvised hooded cloak that my grandmother sewed for me. I climbed walls and trees wearing the hood, and it was extremely fun to have swordfights with sticks with my friends in my backyard. After moving away from my old home, I got a new laptop and access to better wifi, where I also discovered the existence of Steam. I bought the Assassin's Creed games again, including Unity and Syndicate, which I hadn't gotten around to playing. Much to my dismay, Unity was extremely laggy, even on my new laptop, but Syndicate was more playable. After I'd played all the Assassin's Creed games over and over (Excluding Origins and Odyssey, as they weren't out during that time), I eventually moved on to other games like CS:GO and Dark Souls, but Assassin's Creed was ultimately the catalyst for my interest in gaming, and still has a special place in my heart. I'm sorry for the long comment, but seeing an Assassin's Creed video in my recommendations after all these years just gave me a little trip down memory lane. But if anyone actually reads this, I just wanted to share my experience with the AC franchise, and I'd love to hear your stories as well
I first played this on the 360 about 7 or 8 years ago id say, and it is still to this day one of, if not my favorite game I have ever played. Aside from the issues with the game (which I don't think ruins the game,) it is definitely the best pirate games ever made and one of the best games of this generation, in my opinion of course. To this day I still remember every word to leave her Johnny and often catch myself singing it when I'm down, or when I'm relaxing. I've played this game a countless amount of time over the years and have bought it on every console I have ever owned, and I still can't get over the fact that the only game that comes close to this game after all this time is kingdom come: deliverance, which I recommend you play. I will always hold this game close to my heart, and hope that another game comes out that I can love the same way. Wow. I'm kinda sad now, well anyway, cheers mate!
Brother, my journey through the franchise and gaming is so similar to yours it's frightening ahaha I'm 20 years old now, and I also hadn't played any real open world games before assassin's creed. Only cs 1.6 and gta too. I also came across black flag in my friend's house and we too would sing "leave her johnny" and played with sticks in the garden. I have deep interest in history and the games just emphasized that with the conspiracy plots and sci-fi. The only difference is that I've played origins and odyssey. Odyssey is very different and you wouldn't like it, but you must give origins a shot. My childhood was awesome playing these games and I hope you continue to find joy in gaming. Hugs from Portugal my dude
Wow I so relate to this!! Ubisoft games were a huge part of my gaming experience. However my quest started with the Prince of Persia games after which I later moved to AC.
And then years after the ending of Black Flag, Edwards gets killed and his son and daughter taken. His son then becomes a Templar Master, in the 1800s America . Haytham. Makes 3 Alot better in that regard
Then ironically the Kenway mansion became a Templar base after his death. I think the Kenway bloodline is one of the tragic stories ever told once you read deep into the lore of what happened to the family after the events of the games.

They released it on ps4 but I really don’t know if it’s a remaster
This game without bugs is still good enough it doesn't need a remaster or something the oldest AC or Unity deserves a remake or even a remaster
It's a barely passable game
4's gameplay isn't the best.

The lush green jungles, islands, crystal clear blue water, the ship battles, stealth mechanics and underwater exploration just added to the gameplay experience. Terrific game. And arguably the least formulaic of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which is probably the reason why it’s the best since 2.
Emperor Reign 2 was good for its time but the combat hasn’t aged very well. I think it’s praised a bit too much.

@@invictagothica They didn't remaster it on Xbox one, so litterally nothing changed from 360, they just brought the 360 version to one.
It’s really the PC controls that aged terribly.

you must be young to have commented that
This game will always hold a special place in my heart.

That's a great point.
@elite13 and that's what keeps driving him through the story as he still thinks he had nothing until he did have nothing except his daughter
I mean he very much lost essentially everything he had, his girl his home and his job for a while

I thought I was the only one. The emotion and power behind the song not only captures Edwards whole journey. But it captures the happiness in the pain
"Of all the money that ere I had, i spent it in good company"
Yeah, Parting Glass hits you right in the feels. Always makes me cry a little when I hear it
When I was in Highschool I got into a massive argument with my friend about wether or not Edward was a actual assassin.
"nothing is forbidden and everything permitted" nonsense... why keep saying that if its a huge lie and this is really just freedom versus order? i absolutely loved black flag because, well you're running around being a pirate, not some morality murder police. i loved odyssey your a merc in the middle of a massive war, and dont even have the dumb edge lord assassin blade. they are great. revelations was the best of the ezio trilogy because it ended with him going "man screw this assassin stuff.... i quit" heck i liked 3 because connor tended to just charge into the fights rather than sneak around.
i guess what im trying to say is that the "assassin" stuff i feel is gimmiky nonsense getting in the way of my universal studios theme park ride through a historical period, lol. whereas other people probably have the very opposite opinion, they love all the edgy assassin stuff, so their least favorite games are the same ones that are my favorites. i mean im well aware that most people disliked 3, and odyssey got rather mixed reviews. so if they say "black flag is not a good assassins creed game" its probably because you spend 95% of the game as just a pirate, and its far more character focused than about the big templar=bad assassin=good conflict and reasons like that. which is coincidentally the exact same reasons i love the shit out of it.
make sense? or did i ramble too much? lol
E. Corellius
Your good man, everyone has there opinion. And there’s people who love the older games because of a good story and the hidden blade.
lol i had to read the black flag book and thats what got me to replay the game. The book is actually good and cleared up alotta shit
I still wouldn’t call him a assassin but just a pirate because the fact a assassin would be more sneaky and not be so obvious just an opinion

"graphically dated"
I feel like 7th gen is aging pretty nicely visually. Running.them all maxed out in 4K 60FPS really lets what graphics they do have really shine. The leap from 2000 to 2010 was quite a bit more dramatic than the leap from 2010 to 2020. Black Flag still looks pretty good to me!
I don't get why he says this. You're totally right, it's been diminishing returns for the last generation.
For example:
-The parts where round things like sticks or posts look like they're glitched into whatever they're attached to
-Any rope that's wound around anything wooden (jungle structures, masts, docks) is a polygon and not a circle
-The climbable trees are distinct, rigid 3D polygonal shapes with texturing to make 'em look like wood
-The ends of boards and planks are always clean-sawn, perfectly flat planes. You don't get to see any roughness in them.
-Rain effect on the ground shows up below thatched rooves
Other than those things, ACIV graphics stay remarkably strong seven years later. I'll be sad when the day comes where my new video game X is indisputably better than good ol' Black Flag!
Ambiance > graphics.
Nowadays people are going insane on graphic but can't even do cap try to compresed their own game for optimisation purpose.
It's pretty inconsistent, the small islands look amazing, so does the Jackdaw and the water. The rest?, not so much.
Let's all be serious.

12:50 Jesus Christ, I didn't know you could slide down those ropes.
TrueGamer007 Played the game for 100s of hours and never noticed this.

Ooooooof that ending that you played all the way through weighted on me with the same overwhelming emotion that it did when I saw it for the first time. Thank you for putting this together, it was a trip
indeed..
I didn't cry when I finished the game
But damn, I almost cried when you showed it now
Indeed, I didn't cry with the game but I fricking cried now.
@@michaelbilotta1567 i finished this game in 2017 and im still a kid on that day, but now.. i cant.
I just got the game and today is my birthday I can’t wait to replay this game again I enjoyed this game when I was 5 years old lol
Anne singing The Parting Glass while Edward sees all of his fallen friends, followed by Edward meeting his daughter, was an amazing and beautiful way to end the game.
You are one of my favorite if not the favorite youtube channel. You manage to strike the perfect balance of seriousness and wild, out of pocket phrases, it's never not a joy watching a video of your's, thank you for these amazing videos

3:39 this is why I remember this game so fondly. That cathedral is where I did my first communion and I lived a block away from it. They did such a nice job of portraying havana
La illaha allaha muhammadun rasulullaah brother
Assassins creed 4's ending is emotionally devestating.
It hits a thousand times deeper than anything else in the entire franchise. It's remarkable how simple and yet brilliant and beautiful the storytelling is.
Bro I had that crying feeling in my chest during the end of three game
It sucks knowing that Edward dies a few years after that scene in England.
Makes me cry each time
It’s insane how they tied black flag, rogue,AC3 and Unity all together. Play black flag, rogue and AC3 & unity in that order. It’s not the way they released but it’s the correct timeline-order to play them in. The end of Rogue stunned me.. it really gives you a whole different perspective on the series. They way they released the games made the story a little difficult to follow at the time of each release but I highly recommend playing them in order
the ending of ac4 was also a stab into the heart, seeing all our freinds back sitting on the table, realizing they are gone was a truly heartbreaking moment
i even shared a tear on the ending scene after seeing every friend u lost during the game
The voice actor for Edward Kenway (Matt Ryan) is my favourite actor just because of this game and his portrayal of Constantine.
He was incredible as Constantine, sucks that it got cancelled. Really wish he got to finish the series, since it got left on a cliffhanger.
What about Wayne June?
@@tlozmeowcatz7991 He comes back in a couple episodes of the Arrowverse, I think in season 4 or 5 of arrow, and I think he straight up joins the Legends of Tomorrow... If that is you can handle the Arroverse's Arrownanigans.
@@paxmorgana Ha, yeah that last part is accurate. I stopped watching the CW shows a while ago because the writing was just all over the place, but I did see the cameo. Glad he at least got to step into the role again.
TLoZMeOWCaTZ he’s still incredible as Constantine acting wise on Legends of Tomorrow. Unfortunately the scripts don’t really live up to his acting skills.
Me during the ending “I’m not crying, you’re crying”
Lol same
We're crying mate T_T
@Piet Hein i cried now ffs its the best moment in video game history

"In a world without gold, we might have been heroes". What an amazing line.
This was my first assassin's creed game and one that I hold near to my heart, despite it's flaws, I recently started a new playthrough and I just found this video in my recommendations
Wow that’s amazing! This was also my first assassins creed game and I as well have started again.

Bro same. I just 100% the game but still need all achievements. AC4 was my first game and it really got me into the franchise with unity and expo(ezio, lmao)collection being my next games. AC is really an experience
Same... Only bought the game a year or two ago...
I dont play consoles regularly but im almost done.
Im thinking of getting the 1 and 2.
I know the lore from UA-cam but playing the games are different

"In a world without gold, we might have been heroes!"
Honestly though that ending gets me every time, playing through this game is so in depth and has an incredible story line where you connect with every character, it was the first game i completed 100% because i just could not get enough of it. I hope in the future we can get a pirate game that is similar to this minus the assassins side of the story.
Aus Dragon Same, never got 100% completion on any game until I played Black Flag. It was worth it, even though I don’t have the console anymore
Atlas is holding me for now. It's actually an amazing pirate game. Its initial launch ruined its reputation though.
And the music afther blackbeard death
Anne singing amd looking over your friends makes me cry every time
Honestly, this is my favorite Assasin's Creed game.
Hats down to the best AC game (Ezio trilogy is fav too)
@@arungd7 Yeah Ezio trilogy was amazing too, they just didn't capture me like black flag did. Black Flag was a game I could replay several times, which is something no other Assassin's creed game has been able to do for me

37:47 Aww man here come my tears. I can't hear this song and not cry.
7:33 this swing and flop is so good
I was so much expecting him to clip through the ship that I burst out laughing when he flopped.

Jeeez!!! I felt that 😂😂
Unfortunately, the best Assassin’s Creed game in recent memory was at its best when it _wasn’t_ being an Assassin’s Creed game. That’s a pity.
Well, it didn't work so well when Oddicey came.
i hope you mean the prince of persia games
Was about to comment this. Black Flag is a masterpiece.
And the Assassin's Creed parts are the worst in the game -_-
Black flag is over rated shit
The fact that his little girl showed up instead of his wife after the shot with the memory of all his dead friends... it broke my heart.
His wife died
STHEA i think he knows
The last people who thought that the world was flat was people who sailed on the Sea. At most they thought the world was a cylinder but always knew it wasn't flat.
The first time I saw this game was at my friend's house, when he was showing me his new Xbox 360. I was fascinated by the graphics and the freedom of an open world game of such a scale, because the only games that I'd played up to that point were Nintendo DS games and a few old PC games such as GTA Vice City and Counter Strike: 1.6
Needless to say, I kept on going back to my friends' house to play the game, and we'd often stay up till 4 in the morning, trying to beat the game.
Really enjoyed that Trip Down memorie lane. Cheers buddy!
Your story is inspirational!!
Haytham. Makes 3 Alot better in that regard
really didnt like rogue
I never managed to stick with 3. Got super boring for me.
Didn't like Rogue that much either.
Then ironically the Kenway mansion became a Templar base after his death. I think the Kenway bloodline is one of the tragic stories ever told once you read deep into the lore of what happened to the family after the events of the games.
@@NickyderLizard Not talking about rogue. More so 3
